COLLECTIVE MADNESS

“Soft despotism is a term coined by Alexis de Tocqueville describing the state into which a country overrun by "a network of small complicated rules" might degrade. Soft despotism is different from despotism (also called 'hard despotism') in the sense that it is not obvious to the people."

  4. Today, Rudy took a big step forward in what can only be termed as emulating the 1994 Republican Congress' "Contract with America." He unveiled his Twelve Commiments to America:

    1. I will keep America on offense in the Terrorists’ War on Us.

    2. I will end illegal immigration, secure our borders, and identify every non-citizen in our nation.

    3. I will restore fiscal discipline and cut wasteful Washington spending.

    4. I will cut taxes and reform the tax code.

    5. I will impose accountability on Washington.

    6. I will lead America towards energy independence.

    7. I will give Americans more control over, and access to, healthcare with affordable and portable free-market solutions.

    8. I will increase adoptions, decrease abortions, and protect the quality of life for our children.

    9. I will reform the legal system and appoint strict constructionist judges.

    10. I will ensure that every community in America is prepared for terrorist attacks and natural disasters.

    11. I will provide access to a quality education to every child in America by giving real school choice to parents.

    12. I will expand America’s involvement in the global economy and strengthen our reputation around the world.

  7. Sleeping Beauty, Tom Thumb, and Quasimodo were all talking one day. Sleeping Beauty said, "I believe myself to be the most beautiful girl in the world."

Tom Thumb said, "I must be the smallest person in the world."

Quasimodo said, "I absolutely have to be the most disgusting person in the world.

"So they all decided to go to the Guinness Book of World Records to have their claims verified.

Sleeping Beauty went in first and came out looking deliriously happy. "It's official, I AM the most beautiful girl in the world."

Tom Thumb went next and emerged triumphant, "I am now officially the smallest person in the world."

Sometime later, Quasimodo comes out looking utterly confused and says, "Who the hell is Rosie O'Donnell?"

  10. Two-state solution nearer to reality as Hamas Attacks Fatah, capturing American guns, personnel carriers, dividing Gaza Strip.

  11. Gaza?

    Lebanon. Syria.

Similar to Iran, the rhetoric enveloping the region is theater.

  13. What it is indicitive of, more than theater, elijah, is as an illustration of what will likely occur in Anbar, with the Sunni tribesmen we are arming.

This in direct contradiction to US Policy circa 2003. The tribal leaders wwere to frozen out of the "new" Iraq.

We arm Fatah, the weapons are soon used by mussulmen extremists, against Israelis.
When we arm those Sunni, outside the direct command and control of the Iraqi Army, we may gain a short term tactical advantage, as in arming Fatah, but the long term cost could well be incalculable, in supplying aQ with US support, through false flagged, double agent Sunni.

Even Texas National Guardsmen are border smuggling coyotes, cash will always corrupt.
The Sunni are not as well vetted, as National Guardsmen.

The US will continue to watch the show, in that regard, it is theater, still.

  14. How can the LA Times come out with a poll with a straight face that says 2/3 or more of Americans favor amnestry?
Which is what I just heard on the radio.

Passing all these guns out to all these factions, it gets to the point I can hardly follow it. If we are arming these Sunni gangs, maybe something deeper is going on. Hell if I know. It's like we are beginning to take a side in their civil war, for whatever reason. I don't know what's going on.

  18. bobalharb,

    re: capturing American guns

That whole "Guns to Pals" thing is starting to look a little shaky from here. I doubt Candi and State will take the point, however.

It looks like Dr. Rice will have to consider a three state solution. And just when things were going so well.
