COLLECTIVE MADNESS

“Soft despotism is a term coined by Alexis de Tocqueville describing the state into which a country overrun by "a network of small complicated rules" might degrade. Soft despotism is different from despotism (also called 'hard despotism') in the sense that it is not obvious to the people."

The Bare Truth. Does Alan Greenspan have BDS?

Alan Greenspan claims Iraq war was really for oil
Graham Paterson Times on Line (hat tip: Bobalharb)

AMERICA’s elder statesman of finance, Alan Greenspan, has shaken the White House by declaring that the prime motive for the war in Iraq was oil.

In his long-awaited memoir, to be published tomorrow, Greenspan, a Republican whose 18-year tenure as head of the US Federal Reserve was widely admired, will also deliver a stinging critique of President George W Bush’s economic policies.

However, it is his view on the motive for the 2003 Iraq invasion that is likely to provoke the most controversy. “I am saddened that it is politically inconvenient to acknowledge what everyone knows: the Iraq war is largely about oil,” he says.

  4. Assinine headline on published article! What Greenspan actually said.

"Greenspan, 81, is understood to believe that Saddam Hussein posed a threat to the security of oil supplies in the Middle East."

    Right on!

There are bad things going on in Darfur, in Zimbabwe, in Chechnya, in Tibet. No-one is doing anything about it.

There were bad things going on in Iraq -- and we did something about it because (among many other things) the New York Times would not be able to print tomorrow if Middle East oil supplies got disrupted.

Are these idiots in the press really as dumb as they try to make themselves seem?

  5. When they talked about Greenspan it's was always, "Bubble this, Bubble that;" BUTT I don't think that's the kind of "Bubble" they had in mind.

  6. Well, we gave Olmert, and the Israeli brass hell over their performance in the Lebanon dust-up, but it appears they may have done Something Pretty Good This time.

  7. Greenspan was made dizzy by the hot stinking pile of cat vomit right here at the Pub.
In fact, all his talk of War for Oil is one of the reasons he got turned into that stinking pile by the evil b, er, Witch.

  8. Greenspan was correct to say that Saddam posed a threat to ME oil supplies. The anti Bush spin is that created by the MSM. Why malign the man for that?

Once upon a time, Doug, you regarded me at best with squinty-eyed suspicion because I did not raise the pom-poms for the administration. I was either a political subversive or tool of same, back in the day of your self-appointed role as chief political officer and hall monitor at Belmont. Sometime later, I made your shit list as an apologist for the administration. Then you were beside yourself at my unwillingness to lay the blame for Iraq (and everything else in the world) at the doorsteps of State and CIA, until such time as you determine that I am, in fact, a toady for the neocon boobyhatch of Rumsfeld's Pentagon.

Hell hath no fury like a recent convert. And you are nothing if not always a recent convert, swinging wildly from one object of unrelieved contempt and incredulity to another. The one constant is your association of me with every bete noire you have had along the way.

And I am supposed to express my gratitude for your recent allowance of an error? NOIDONTTHINKSO.

For the record, rufus has never denied that he's a steaming pile of cat vomit. Fuckthemotherfuckingcaptains who chicken out of that third tour, he tells us. FuckthemotherfuckingE4s who do the same, all the more room for those who aren't motherfuckingchickenshits to take their place in his indispensably righteous war for oil. How many tours, rufus? Two? Three? Four?

    Yeah I thought so.

  14. I still say israel and olmert did not lose last summer's war...

I know, I know, israel did not get its two guys back and hezbollah is not disarmed.

    but consider this:

israel exposed the weakness of the arab's use of rocket warfare, before last summer hezbollah used the threat to "rain" rockets on israel as a trump card..

guess what? they gave it EVERYTHING they had, 4400 rockets and barely murdered 50 israelis (i think 25% were arabs to boot)

Israel destroyed about 10-12 BILLION in hezbollah, iranian, syrian and lebanese assets in southern lebanon.

the reaction that israel gave forth (although I had wished israel had used the cluster bombs on the hezbollah areas instead of on virtually emptied areas that israel had allowed to evacuate) still had the effect to polarize the lebanese, wake up the french and the sunni world, the UN and more.

In the end israel, HAS effectively regained its deterrence ability in the north (not yet in hamasistan) Israel will not be held hostage to kidnapping like she was in the past. The continued holding by hamas and hezbollah of israelis and their NEVER being seen by any red cross or independent group reaffirms the terrorist nature of both.

Israel may not have done as WELL as they wished last summer, but in the still of the night, the arab world (despite their daytime bragging) are scared shitless of the zionists.

thus the objective of last summer was a success, this objective is: "fuck with us and we'll cost you a bundle, kill a bunch without even trying and leave you a present to last years (old defective USA clusterbombs) this my EB friends is a good thing.

Now the taking out of the Nkor's Nuke Bar and Grill in Syria ALSO sends a wonderful message to my least favorite eye glass polisher...

You are not alone... We KNOW everything you do, and unlike you, we learn from mistakes.

The strike last week was a direct message to iran. Your time for fuckin up the middle east is drawing to a close, if you dont send your evil little shits home soon, your going to have body bags instead, AND more importantly, the virus you have unleashed WILL be unleashed UNTO you..

blowback is a bitch.... Iran? Syria? Hamas? Hezbollah? fasten your seat belts your about to go off road...

  15. Trish,

We ALL have reasons to be skeptics. So what? You're the wiser, because from day one you took it as your mission to act as steaming piece of gunk, is that it?
