COLLECTIVE MADNESS

“Soft despotism is a term coined by Alexis de Tocqueville describing the state into which a country overrun by "a network of small complicated rules" might degrade. Soft despotism is different from despotism (also called 'hard despotism') in the sense that it is not obvious to the people."

The Facts Behind the Immigration Liars at The New York Times

The NY Times headlines, widely quoted by the MSM read, "Immigration Bill Provisions Gain Wide Support in Poll".

Not too encouraging to the opponents of this bill. Could it be that it was printed to encourage our masters and rulers in DC, who will not read the details behind the headlines, as they will probably not read the bill itself? I asked myself, how is this possible?

I decided to do something quaint. Read the data.

The poll itself covers many subjects. It contains over one hundred questions. The published pdf version has been edited.

I simply highlight some of the questions in the same poll that would point to a far different picture from the propaganda and outrageous distortion portrayed by the New York Times. Could it be that the New York Times has an agenda?

  2. You need to examine these polls the politiciaans are using to justify their positions. Her is another example:

Public emotion surging around immigration issue

    By Eric Pfeiffer
    The Washington Times

WASHINGTON -- Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California says the public emotion surging around efforts to overhaul the nation's immigration policy is the greatest she has seen since her 1992 election.

The Democrat said the topic hasn't translated into the 30,000-plus phone calls to her office that would mean "something is really going on" in the nation's most populous state, but the enthusiasm of opinion is fervent.

"We're dealing with an issue about which people have very strong, very deeply set views," Mrs. Feinstein said.

She said most of the nearly 8,000 calls her office has fielded have been "very hostile and very negative" despite polls that show up to 80 percent of Californians support legalizing "undocumented workers."

What poll was this? How was it worded and what are the actual answers.

Do not let these mediocre people change your country forever.

  4. Where are the conservative pollsters on this? Where are the Republican Party pollsters on this? If the Republican Party goes along with this and a Republican President signs it, what is the sense in being a Republican? George Bush is all for closing Syrian and Iraqi and Iranian borders. He claims this as some security threat to the US. Now he supports a bill for blanket amnesty after doing nothing to secure the US border for six and one half years.

  6. The Republican pollsters are paid by the Party, duece.
    That'd be Mr Bush.
You others, and I, are all RINOs.

Not in step with the Party of Bush.
    I or II.

Why do you think that the Republican Party would stand and oppose Mr Bush?
    He is the Party leader.

It is us RINOs that are not in step with the Party on Religion of Peace, nor border security issues.

You and yours have been left on the beach, along with Mr Bolton.

Not one of your or my positions on the two major issues of the day mirror the Republican Party stance.

Get used to that, you RINOs

    ReplyDelete
  7. Where else you gonna go, RINO?

The idea that the Republicans are "conservative" or "right wing" is laughable.

They are the Party of compassionate doctrines and the Religion of Peace

  10. I've sent my notes, this is the response:

DERBY LINE, Vt. (Associated Press) -- Step through the front door of the Haskell Library and you're in the United States. Walk across the carpeted floor to the circulation desk and you're in Canada. But if you sit down on the couch, you're back in the U.S. The 106-year-old Romanesque building, which straddles the international border, has enjoyed a kind of informal immunity from border restrictions through the years. But a U.S. Border Patrol crackdown focusing on three unguarded streets linking Derby Line with Stanstead, Quebec, across the border, could soon change that.

"There's been an increase in illegal activity, both north and south, in the last little while," said Mark Henry, the operations officer for the Border Patrol's Swanton sector, which runs across northern New York, Vermont and New Hampshire. "There have been some significant cases."

The Feds have cracked down in Vermont, those Canuks just running across the border, through the library in droves.

"This all fits in to the larger picture of the Border Patrol strategy to gain operational control of our borders," Henry said.

I would never have guessed that DERBY LINE, Vt. was the AQ equivalent of the Ardennes.

Why it conjures up a picture in my mind of the small circus car that disgourges 30-40 people. I see those sneaky AQ's coming in the Canadian side, stopping to read the latest issue of "House Beautiful" or "Archtectural Digest", and then scooting out the US side to work thier evil.

  21. O/T but take a look at the size of this hogzilla recently taken.

Taken down by a boy and his gun.

    Holy Hog!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  22. There's something wrong with that picture. Or, that kid's awfully small. Or, something. It just don't look right.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Rufus. I agree with you. There is no way a wild hog can get that big. Impossible

    ReplyDelete
  24. Feral pigs are mid-sized hoofed mammals with a long, pointed head and stocky build. Males and females look much alike. Wild hogs exhibit great variation in color and size. The average wild sow weighs about 110 pounds (ranging from 80 to 330 pounds) and the average wild boar weighs about 130 pounds (ranging from 100 to 440 pounds). Unusually large, trophy-sized feral pigs have been taken that reach three feet tall, six feet long and over 500 pounds. They eat mostly roots, acorns and meat if they can get it.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I agree with Rufus it might be stopped in the house. Tried to go to monsterpig.com, their website, about the hog but couldn't get anything up... thought there might be more pics. One of those times you'd actually like to see the hog in the flesh. Hell if I know. Looks nearly as big as a water buffalo or something.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'm going to sit in the shade of a tree on 21st street in Lewiston later today or tomorrow, holding a sign, no amnestry, see what response I get. Take a lawn chair, some smokes, and a newspaper or two. Anybody want to join me?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Some of these animals can get awfully big though. I've seen lots of deer in my time, but one time I saw a buck that had antlers almost like an Irish elk, just couldn't believe it, had never seen anything like it, huge beautiful deer, really startling. They say they weighed the hog out.
But maybe it's just a big fish(hog) story. Might be hog wash.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Bob, these people around here in this little bitty town would think I'd lost my mind if I did that. They'd say, "What's old Rufus doin sittin out there in the hot sun? We all already know how he feels about that, anyway.

I'm going to chase down my worthless congresscritter this week. He'll be out makin the rounds. I'll give him a good piece of my mind, then. I think that in my case that might have more effect.

They didn't delay this till after Memorial Day to "Study" on it. They delayed it to lobby the house where they knew they were in trouble. Here's hoping.

  29. I'm at the point in my life, Rufus, that I don't much care what people think of me. I am worried what my wife thinks of me, however:)

  45. Well, he be right, Tater. I just wish the Forefathers had seen this one coming, and put in term limits. Oh well, we'll just have to do a little term-limiting on our own from time to time.

    ReplyDelete
  46. BoB-l

I agree. Plus a 50 caliber in that kids hands would probably break his wrist. That is a BIG dam handgun. I don't think it would take that many shots to bring that hog down..

Probably what happened is one of the adults shot it with a long gun and they gave the kid credit.
They have a story out there so they probably did fill it full of lead AFTER it was dead.
I got kinfolk from Alabama and sometimes, well especially about hunting, the truth might get stretched a bit..

Why I remember when Bear Bryant was coaching Alabama and integration was coming. It took Alabama folks awhile to warm up, you might remember that...
well one day one of Bear's assistant coaches shows up with this black fella, says he can do some runn'n.
So Bear put's his first team defense on the field, hands the ball to the African -American and says,
    "show me a touchdown"
Well from the 10 yard line that runner took off, bobb'n and waev'n until he went 90 yards and scored.

The Bear looked over at the assistant coach and said, "Did you see that puerto rican kid run?"

  47. Hogs are funny animals. My daddy killed one with a wet corncob. No shit. Hit him in the nose and the damned porker fell right over. Go figure.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Rufus,

Term limits are OUR responsibility..we get a shot at the House every two years, a third of the Senate , and the WH every four..course it does have term limits...but it's the American citizen with his eye OFF the ball that lets then get away with this stuff.

By the same token take a look at a poor state like Montana. They have ONE U.S. Representative and the regulation two Senators.. about the only way they can ever get any clout on any of the important committees is to keep sending the Rep or Sen.. back and back and back. Other wise they are totally out of the game.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Rufus,

How long a piece of rebar was attached to that corncob?

    ReplyDelete
  50. One lousy water-soaked corncob. And, he didn't have a particularly good arm, either. I read about an African villager, somewhere, that killed a lion with a rock. I guess it's true. Strange things happen in nature.

  51. My daughter is sleeping in the other room. She's recovering from having a tumor removed from inside her brain. She just happened to pass out in front of a small hospital where one of the top brain surgeons in the world was doing a little give-back.

Her odds were approx 40% against survival, 50% quadriplegic, 60% paraplegic, 90% loss of half or more of sight and hearing.

Yesterday, she drove herself over to a pool party, and spent the whole afternoon swimming, and her sight has actually improved in one eye that was weak.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Oh, the tumor was benign.

  53. Rufus,

I ahd no idea you and your family were having to deal with that type of heart rending situation. I will add her to my prayer list even though it sounds like she is doing much much better than the predictions. I am honestly tearfully happy for you and your wife and daughter...Gods grace is a wonderful thing.

The wife has been summoning me for a half hour to get some chores done..more talk later..always a pleasure Rufus ..God bless you.

    ReplyDelete
  54. We get really, really lucky, sometimes.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Rufus, that was my last question I put up on the post. When I read the whole poll, I am very impressed with the absolute audacity of the distortion and true to form, I saw Chip Reid at MSNBC going on about how out of touch Republicans were with the mood of the general American public. He referred to the poll report in the NY times.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Duece has properly pointed out the continued obloquy perpetrated on the US population by the NY Times. It points to the fact that a "free" press like all of our freedoms come only from our willingness to defend them. That alone is the import of the Second Amendment. The point however is that we must be vigilant to who and what we consult for our information. That brings me to what is ostensibly THE place to get information Wikipedia.

Some of you may be more aware of any safeguards Wikipedia has put into place but it appears to be a potential petrie dish for disinformation.

With the net being used more and more by the public and an approaching Presidential election the opportunity for disinformation on topics germane to the issues or candidates is high. I would caution each of us to keep our antenna up for "facts" that don't resonate with your own knowledge base. By collectively being alert to this we can all benefit in our decision making process at a most important time.
