COLLECTIVE MADNESS

“Soft despotism is a term coined by Alexis de Tocqueville describing the state into which a country overrun by "a network of small complicated rules" might degrade. Soft despotism is different from despotism (also called 'hard despotism') in the sense that it is not obvious to the people."

Will Europe, Without Christianity, Succumb to Islam?

I do not know who Abdulhanit Bilici is. It is not important. When truth is spoken, it is recognized for what it is. In The Zaman Daily Newspaper he wrote a column on the recent comments by the Pope. In one paragraph, he pretty well defined the European dilemma:

"...Some Westerners are getting worried that the modernistic views on the concept of religion in general, and Islam in particular, have come to naught.
The dominant view taught in modern social sciences is that religion will have a lesser effect on mankind, and will be reduced to marginality as science advances. This view seems to be confined only to Christianity which is becoming and more marginal in Europe, in marked contrast to the tendencies in the Islamic world. A look at the Islamic world will reveal that Islam, with different colors and tones, dominates every segment of society. It is the same in Indonesia, Palestine, Turkey and Sudan. Hence, both Western conservative circles and the local anti-religionists are fighting tooth and nail to prevent Islam from coming to the fore in this geography. This is because there’s increasing global interaction for Islam to be able to get its universal message across..."

Within these words is embedded a truth that is hard to escape. The secularists by diminishing the influence and rallying force of Chritianity have enhanced the opposing power of Islam. It seems that there are four possible outcomes:
  1. The problem will resolve itself and go away. Optimistic but unlikely in the face of a militant and aggressive Islam.
  2. A Christian Revival. Although possible, enough damage has been done and the unrelenting power of the secular Left make this a very difficult if not impossible process. It also assumes that a new Christian West would have to insist on a policy that would be far less tolerant of Islam in the West. There is no hint that public opinion would favor or tolerate statutory intolerance towards Islam at this time, but future events could change that quickly.
  3. Nationalistic Neo-fascism. This would work in that the demographic numbers favor the outright feasibility of expelling Muslims from the West. It is the most radical and was done effectively by the Serbs to the Muslims in Kosovo. It was reversed by Nato. This could happen if everything else failed and there was a demand for a "strong man on a horse."
  4. Europe Slowly succumbs to Islam. Laws that presently tolerate Islam evolve to laws that favor Islam. European Muslims reproduce faster and increase their influence and move to parity and on to superiority over indigenous Europeans. Emigration by indigenous Europeans, as is happening with whites in South Africa, accelerates the process until the process becomes unstoppable. This appears to be the most likely scenario, but not inevitable.
Are there other possibilities? Sure there are, but a people without a binding spiritual philosophy are a poor match for the dynamic fervent Islamic wave spreading across Western Europe.

  2. From Web browsings this AM, all signs point to your number 4 - Europe slowly succumbs to Islam.
Laws that presently tolerate Islam evolve to laws that favor Islam
The CNV trade union federation [Christelijk Nationaal Vakverbond, one of the largest unions in the Netherlands] feels that a Muslim feast should be introduced as a bank holiday in the Netherlands. The Christian trade union federation is willing to sacrifice a Christian holiday.

CNV vice chairman Rienk van Splunder wishes “to offer Muslims the freedom to practice their faith.” The federation is prepared to sacrifice Whit Monday or Easter Monday for a free day during the Sugar Festival. This is the feast day held to celebrate the end of Ramadan, the Islamic month of fasting. […] By introducing official holidays on such feast days, he hopes to create “freedom and respect for one another.”

Salman Rushdie concurs "When people ask me how the West should adapt to Muslim sensitivities, I always say - the question is the wrong way round. The West should go on being itself. There is nothing wrong with the things that for hundreds of years have been acceptable - satire, irreverence, ridicule, even quite rude commentary - why the hell not?

"But you see it every day, this surrender," he says. He runs through a list of the theatres and galleries that have censored themselves in the face of religious fundamentalist protests. He mentions that the entire British media - from the BBC down - placed itself in purdah during the Mohammed cartoons episode. "What I fear most is that, when we look back in 25 years' time at this moment, what we will have seen is the surrender of the West, without a shot being fired. They'll say that in the name of tolerance and acceptance, we tied our own hands and slit our own throats.

As for emigration, French Jews are voting with their feet. Since the intifada broke out six years ago, the number of French Jews making aliya to Israel has tripled - from about 1,000 a year before the violence began to 3,000 a year now, the highest figure since the Six Day War. Another 20,000 or so French Jews have made the final decision to immigrate to Israel, and are expected to arrive here in the coming years, said Zana, citing polls conducted for the organization three years ago. France is home to 600,000 Jews, by far Europe's largest Jewish community.
"You can assume that more people are making the decision [to immigrate to Israel] as time goes on,"
Can increasing number of indigenous European emigrants be far behind them?

Of course we have seen some evidence of Europe developing a backbone e.g. the British General criticizing multi-culturalism and promoting 'Judaic-Christian values', the Germans allowing the Opera with Mohammed's head in it to run. But all-in-all things don't look too good.

  3. I predict that on January 20, 2009, with a Democrat in the Oval Office, all the scales will miraculously fall from the eyes of socialists across the globe. With the "devil" (as Chavez put it) sent back to Crawford, all of a sudden there will be story after story in the newspapers and cable news shows about how Islam is really against women and gays and peace and one-night stands and dancing and movies, etc., and we should, you know, oppose it.

  4. The only thing that will save Europe now, short of a disease that only kills Muslims is for Europe to deport them.
This will require the European countries to devote two to three year to develop a police/interior force large enough to execute the deportation.
Short of that look the other way while bands of anti Islamic men murder them by the thousands.
Third, cut off all visitation rights to their goats.
Fourth provide every non Muslim with "Pig Spray" and allow them to spray Muslims anytime they feel like it.
Fifth, (used in the French Revolution) Take all the older mothballed ships, fill then with Muzzies and sink then for artificial reefs. It draws great sealife and after a while makes great diving vacations.
Finally, castrate all new born muzzie males.

  5. Most of the posts I read in the blogsphere regarding the Islamic threat are arguments around the margin. Who holds what villiage.
Will Europe survive? Will the US survive?
People, a great war is inevitable. The Islamic culture gives us no diplomatic solution. Their ideology DEMANDS our servitude. Any talk other than war, big war,is on the margin.
We should deport and then kill. It is not an easy thing to face but it is also not our choosing. They are forcing the game. It is, as it has been in the centuries past, a clash of civilizations. Talks on the marginal issues are wasted time. Talk of building up a larger armed forces NOW is imperative, Rumsfeld be damned.
Simultaneouly with that we deport Muslims from this country.
Surely, it is recognized that this is the course we are on, dictated by Islam, a religion of peace.
If you have a diplomatic solution that fits in with Islamic ideology while perserving western culture lets hear it.

I could not agree more with you on our laziness. You, doing the work you do are closer to what I think America's work ethic should demonstrate. Unfortunately along with great national wealth and security comes leisure.
However, it is a puzzle that we Americans work longer hours, take shorter vacations, and produce more per capita that any nation ever. So I don't quite know how to square our feelings that we have a "lazy" nation when compared with all other industrialized who are even more lazy.
It's a hard problem to figure. Perhaps Platos Allegory of the Cave, where people only saw shadows on a wall, but once released from their chains and were allowed out of the cave found the shadows they saw were not what they thought they were.
Anyway, we have 70-80 years on Earth and then an Eternity of goodness. So here we do the best each of us can and the future will take care of itself.
    Best regards

  7. conflicting aphorisms:

"Take care of the small stuff, and the big stuff will take care of itself" versus
    "Don't sweat the small stuff"

  10. Tp,

I agree with everything you said. I have only been to Finland a couple of times and then in Helsinki. My impression was of a very conservative and balanced society. I have been impressed by the historic and heroic defense of Fiinland against the Russians during WWII. I am curious as to where you see your countryman today in regard to Islam. Islam is antithetical to all western culture and the only compromise that it will offer anyone are terms of surrender, I sense a growing realization amongst the people in Europe if not the leaders that a horrible mistake has been made by accepting them in our countries. The Dutch and the Danes are getting it. The English do as well, but not the media or their horrible masters.

Paint us a picture of what is going on in Finland. I and my fellow Elephant men are committed to seeing this thing won. We will never accept that Islam will win. Never. There are many more of us than you can believe. We are not afraid to tell these bastards enough and if necessary get out. Stay with us, keep the faith, we will win. We will have to sweep the Left away to defend what is ours but that will happen. Keep in touch. - 2164th

  12. TP, I am going to bring your letter to the attention of others by posting it.I find it relevant to a lot of discussion about what is going on in other parts of Europe, but rarely from Europeans. Do not be concerned when you get "flamed". I can't think of anyone who posts on this blog that hasn't taken a bite out of me or I them. Reminds me of an old NCO I knew in the military discussing e recent "ass chewing" he got. He observed that, "when they are all wearing false teeth, he would have plenty of ass left." If you have anything you want to change or add, feel free to do so. I will probably post it tomorrow.
