COLLECTIVE MADNESS

“Soft despotism is a term coined by Alexis de Tocqueville describing the state into which a country overrun by "a network of small complicated rules" might degrade. Soft despotism is different from despotism (also called 'hard despotism') in the sense that it is not obvious to the people."

Gingrich on Obama Budget

Other that Romney, I see no Republican of credibility, who can speak up for those who were not rolled by the Obama machine. It is certainly neither Bobby Jindal or Sarah Palin. Things would have to get very bad for Newt to have a chance, but he still has some star power and understands how the politics of the Left works.  Both Romney and Gingrich have a far better understanding of the limitations of government and the workings of the American economy than the Obama Administration.

  1. I think the Dems are going to finish up the rout in the 2010 elections.

All of this "stimulus" will be hitting the streets just in time for the elections and the Republicans can't do a thing about it except whine, which the masses don't want to hear.

Gingrich is a good spokesman for limited government but Obama's people drank the koolaid already.

  2. "Gingrich is a good spokesman for limited government..."

NRO hired Gingrich to spice things up over summer 2000 by writing book reviews.

His first one was on the interstate highway system, which he lauded.

I think he might have done one more book review after that.

And, whaddya know, no more Newt.

  5. The Bible Belt's got to get over this anti-Mormon stuff. That helped give us McCain.

  6. He stayed up in Norway for three weeks or so in some little village where nothing happens waiting for a good view of the northern lights. Finally got it, and said it was well worth it.

  7. A good observer.

That's always something to aim for.

  8. By the way, there was a most excellent heavenly show tonight. The moon, crescent horned, sign celestial of ever returning life, was in conubium with Venus, the daybreak star of understanding.

If you get a chance try to catch it tomorrow night, early evening.

    Found In Colorado

13 thousand years, that pushes things back. They were able to bio/analyze the tools and found that the Clovis people had been eating camels, among other big game.

  10. The macro-culture war is demographically lost. That is the logical outcome of universal suffrage of civic and economic illiterates. Their representatives then can lawfully take and redistribute property and individual rights.

Obama is a visionary and realized that the era of increased affirmative action was over. So he sidesteps it by making education through college and graduate school universal and shifts the financial burden to the public treasury. He will do the same for unionization, health care and cultural decarbonization of the planet. The mob will love him for it.

I did not particularly care for the army recruiting slogan of "an army of one" but lately it has a more pleasing and universal resonance. I modify that to the equally silly "carbon footprint" mantra and come up with a good life strategy of being an army of one and lessening your footprint. Get closer to the ground. Assume your personal life and privacy will come under more governmental scrutiny and control and your property more subject to more confiscatory taxation and seizure.

Draw your own map and structure a plan B, C, D and X. Reduce your exposure and protect what is yours.

  11. There's one thing Zero has proposed that I support, and that is cutting back on farm subsidies to the big producers. There is no reason on earth why these big producers--actually in many cases, non-producers--should be getting big bucks. A hand up is one thing, a hand out to the already wealthy is something else. Target the working farmer. I think what we need is more medium sized farmers, help them.

  12. His proposal has already run into some difficulty in the farm states of course, on both sides of the aisle.

  14. Taxing the rich at 100% won't pay for Obama's budget. The Wall Street Journal has reported that taxing the rich at 100% won't pay for Obama's budget. Barack Obama promised not to raise taxes on anyone making under $250,000 per year. Where is he going to get the money? The numbers indicate Obama will need to take 100% of the income of everyone making over $75,000.
