COLLECTIVE MADNESS

“Soft despotism is a term coined by Alexis de Tocqueville describing the state into which a country overrun by "a network of small complicated rules" might degrade. Soft despotism is different from despotism (also called 'hard despotism') in the sense that it is not obvious to the people."

As Goes Ohio, So Will Go Obama

Change, you can feel the change.

Pre-election and for a few months thereafter, an Obama speech would stop crowds at airport televisions. I rarely looked at the screen then, instead I studied the faces, and saw an enthralled public. Black and white faces would exchange smiles. There was a genuine belief that change was coming. In the last months, a lot has changed, but not in the way the myth merchants had in mind.

Obama is now in the red in Ohio as voters disapprove 53 - 42 percent of the way the President is handling the economy, and disapprove 57 - 36 percent of the way he is handling health care. In September, Ohio approved of his handling of the economy 48 - 46 percent and split on his handling of health care 44 - 45 percent.

Those polls were taken before the inexplicable political decision to try terrorists in NYC. Even the Democratic Governor of New York rejects that politically foolish decision. Obama has burned much of his capital and yet has hardly started anything that is appealing to the American public. Obama has foolishly made himself look detached, indecisive and ideological at a time when the public is looking for leadership and common sense.

The public has noted as will Congress. Congress has an election in 2010 and that is only 44 days and a wake-up away.

_____________

Poll: Obama's overall approval rating falls to new low in Ohio

President Obama's approval ratings have fallen to a new low in Ohio. For the first time, Ohio voters disapprove 50 - 45 percent of the job President Barack Obama is doing, down from his 53 - 42 percent approval September 16 and 49 - 44 percent approval July 7.

The Quinnipiac poll of Ohio voters conducted from November 5-9 is particularly problematic for the President as the dates of the survey spanned the weekend in which the House of Representatives' healthcare reform bill was passed. Nevertheless, his disapproval in a key swing state reached an all-time high.

"The Democratic wave that swept through Ohio in 2006 and 2008 may be cresting. [F]or the first time President Barack Obama is under water in the most important swing state in the country," said Peter Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. "In July, when the President's job approval began falling nationally from the high 50s and low 60s into the low 50s, Ohio was the first place it showed up in the polls," said Brown.

Ohio voters disapprove 53 - 42 percent of the way the President is handling the economy and disapprove 57 - 36 percent of the way he is handling health care. In September, they approved of his handling of the economy 48 - 46 percent and split on his handling of health care 44 - 45 percent.

  1. Look at that speech. They don't get any better than that. Too bad it was all for nothing.

  2. That estimated 3.5% growth in the 3rd quarter is getting, steadiy, taken down. Will probably end up in the 2.5% range. This quarter will be, maybe 1%, or less.

Unemployment is going to keep rising (maybe, most of the year.) Could end up close to 11%. I expect the price of gasoline to reach $3.25 by Summer.

Obama's approval rating could be in the "thirties" in Ohio by election day, 2010.

  3. Can my wife vote in Ohio, if she gets her tail back there in time, that is Rat's question.

This from the guy who said the other day he might cheat on his taxes, by 'forgetting' some income or other.

Well, I don't blame him for that, but he should stick his nose up some ass other than my wife's on her voting rights.

Ohio is going to go Republican. People are beginning to see this commie, muzzie, con man for what he really is.

  5. Not cheat, bob, but forget some details.

As to your wife, or you, voting in Ohio.

Move your legal residence to the house she has, there.
File your taxes from there, have your mail delivered there, move there. Then you could vote, there.

Or you could just forget about that legal requirement stuff.

  7. As regards your wife voting in Ohio and me discussing that, after you brought up the subject.

We were discussing voter fraud, and the only incident that we could document, fer sure, that went beyond voter registration fraud, where an erroneously registered voter actually voted, was your wife.

You were so proud of her.

Thinking she had done a "good" thing, when in fact she was a law breaker. A law breaker with the best of intentions, and misinformed as to her legal status, true. But ignorance of the law, that is no excuse.

Forgetfulness, that is almost always excused.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Either can make one a lawbreaker, but Acts of Omission are forgiven, more often than Acts of Commission.

  9. Thinking that property ownership bestowed voting rights, that's just so, well ... medieval.

  10. rufus,

How much of the "growth" is attributable to the partial restocking due to highly discounted inventory reduction.

In noting the sales of LCD and plasma TVs yesterday, limited inventories were reported.

Let's see who's the better prognosticator, Rufus. I'm betting that China stops dumping all that money (and concrete, and gas for the backhoes) into capital stimulus building production capacity for crap that no one wants to buy. By next summer they crap out and their their export driven bubble economy comes crashing down. Gas at $2.25. Oil in the forties. New York, Nevada, and California go into muni bond default and demand a federal bailout. Talk of a "double dip" recession as the socialist policies of Obamanomics takes us north of 13% unemployment. And if Israel lays some smack down on Iran all bets are off.

    ReplyDelete
  13. If oil is at $40 and gas is under $2.25, then unemployment will be under 10%.

This episode was triggered by the rise in oil prices, to begin with.

  15. ah... chicago stuff....

The death of Chicago school board president Michael Scott has been ruled a suicide by the Cook County medical examiner's office, but police said this afternoon they are continuing to look into the death and that detectives are still "early on in the investigation."

There are "just a lot of things we have look at before we have a definite answer," Chicago Police Supt. Jody Weis said at an afternoon news conference. Once the investigation is conducted "then we'll make a decision as to what we believe the cause of death to be."

Detectives are awaiting the results of ballistics tests, are examining Scott's phone records and are looking into whether security cameras in the area may have captured his movements before his death, Weis said.

  18. There is that, deuce, there is that.

Here we are teetering 'tween the coming deflation or hyper inflation, depending upon the economic seer one listens to.

As long as the balancing act holds, full speed ahead!

Though I am planning the self sustaining mountain retreat, 'cept for the water, it's still going to be a dry camp.

A more interesting debate than whether we will have inflation or deflation.

Why not start by asking why the Army would retain a substandard, raving lunatic…just sayin’ it’s not that hard to find a place to start.

Trish may get the point for this. Such a "probe" would be painful and, therefore, will be avoided.

    A water source is #1

Just look at Jerusalem... That place where Jews settled 3000 years ago, was in fact, located over a spring...

Rat should go to a waterless place forever...

    q...

I am too finding limits to cash....

    But I did get a nice Remington 710 30.06 for $249 bucks...

I did get a nice UV portable water purified (at dicks) runs on double aa's and can last for 8000 liters of water ($79.99)

I am looking into a power generator for the home for those upcoming 3-15 days power outages that have become much more common place lately, I am leaning towards a natural gas one... (in the event of a power outage, natural gas transmission is powered by.... natural gas generators)

A Katrina sized disaster if it struck where i live, if it did not require getting out at once (except for those who seek food and water) I think house camping for up to 21 days would be the choice...

Think of the highways and the tens of thousands all trying to drive out at once...

Unless you HAVE to flee, let the vast majority of those unprepared go 1st.... Let's be real...

Short of a complete breakdown where the world has gone crazy, i am coming to the conclusion that MOST of the situations facing us are sit out able...

But MILLIONS who have not prepared in the least will clog the roads, shelters and government services...

I prefer to stay away from them as far as possible...

If the worst happens? all bets are off...

  30. I didn't go through the numbers, Allen. I guess, there had to be a little inventory restocking in there. A little more exports, a little less (dollar wise) imports.
