COLLECTIVE MADNESS

“Soft despotism is a term coined by Alexis de Tocqueville describing the state into which a country overrun by "a network of small complicated rules" might degrade. Soft despotism is different from despotism (also called 'hard despotism') in the sense that it is not obvious to the people."

UN: Fight climate change with free condoms

By MARIA CHENG, AP Medical Writer Maria Cheng, Ap Medical Writer Wed Nov 18, 8:21 am ET

LONDON – The battle against global warming could be helped if the world slowed population growth by making free condoms and family planning advice more widely available, the U.N. Population Fund said Wednesday.

The agency did not recommend countries set limits on how many children people should have, but said: "Women with access to reproductive health services ... have lower fertility rates that contribute to slower growth in greenhouse gas emissions."

"As the growth of population, economies and consumption outpaces the Earth's capacity to adjust, climate change could become much more extreme and conceivably catastrophic," the report said.

  1. Controlling population growth has always been part and parcel of te "New Whirled Order".

We've been footing the bill for the Family Planning infrastructure, since the UN's inception, at the Fairmont Hotel on Nobb Hill, San Fransisco, CA, USA.

  2. Hitler had great success controlling the population of Jews in Europe. Meanwhile, Japan has 1.2 births per couple, far below replacement levels, and Russia is looking at having only 50 million citizens by 2050. The estimates of 45 percent more people in the world at large over the next fifty years is based on the usual failure to observe dynamic processes. As countries like India and Brazil become first world nations, they will have first world demographics. Yuppies don't have that many kids, anywhere they happen to be.

I can tell you how to fight back gainst this.

    You get somebody better.

  5. Peanut dough, we need vets, too, in the USA.

Can't love dogs and not subsidize their doctors.

    There's a good line.

  11. Watching Palin on Hannity. The only question that matters: Can she win?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Next question: What's she going to do for the next Two years?

  13. Palin says Presidency not on her radar but she will help the party any way she can. That's why she quit as sitting governor of the largest state?

That's about as crazy as going up the chain of command with complaints about fellow soldiers being in, you know, al-Qaeda, and winning a free Article 15.

  14. Did someone say, “POLITICAL CORRECTNESS”?

    - allen

See, I don't think PC covers all the bases that many think it does. Sometimes bad shit is just bad shit.

I remember vividly (amazingly enough in itself) the day I discovered we were turning over our captures to the Iraqis, who in turn were sending them through the revolving door. I was actually shocked. And it takes a lot to shock me.

But Wretchard and that crowd couldn't be moved to see it as outrageous.

    Which only further shocked me.

I can recognize it. Why in the world can't you?

Now, being the far more sophisticated human being that I am, I understand the reasoning behind it. I understand what we were attempting. And soldiers - ours - paid with their lives and limbs for that bit of policy.

Was it political correctness? No. But it WAS political. As in, seeking a political end.

  15. She's running for President. Just as hard as she can. Has been since the day after the election. Quitting as Governor was a Big gamble. Probably, a big mistake.

I want to see what her poll numbersa are week after next.

    ReplyDelete
  16. She's going to be Newt Gingriching for the rest of her life.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I hope not. There's a Lot wrong with that.

Sean's conducted a very nice interview. But, she Really, has got to get a first-class, media expert on her team. She let ABC ambush her with that horrible full-screen face-shot thing the other night. Made her look horrible.

I think Frank Luntz wants the job, desperately.

  18. Obama sucks so bad as POTUS blacks are now pointing out that Obama's half white.

  19. Lowry did put his finger on it. And I do believe that she is finding her true purpose.

I'm not a Palin fan. I think I've made that clear. I fawn over eggheads. Because I'm not one myself. But at the same time, I can see her value as a carnival barker for - and, yes, critic of - the GOP. Absolutely.

And honest to God, who wouldn't want that gig?

  20. "President Barack Obama says creating jobs isn't the goal of a coming White House forum on jobs and economic growth."

    December Jobs Forum

Obama told NBC that the forum will give him and other administration officials a chance to talk to CEOs, small-business owners and other experts to find out what's going on.

    Well that should be helpful.

  21. Eggheads have caused us nothing but pain, and grief. Forever.

Palin would be at least 1,000% better than what we've got.

    Columbia
    Great Britain

    United States of America

  23. It was the "eggheads" that gave us Vietnam. And the U.N. And Global Warming (without understanding a thing about how CO2 really works.)

It was an egghead that testified to congress about how great the ideas of "Unregulated derivatives," and Adjustable Rate Mortgages were.

  24. His name was Alan Greenspan (and, yes, I was listening when he testified.)

  25. On the Good News front...

Chavez is losing, having fucked up his "war" on every count.

Uribe (egghead extraordinaire) has declined at every turn to bite on Nutjob's bait.

The sheer political discipline that that takes is fucking incredible.

  26. Shorter Uribe: Tag. No tags back.

    : )

  27. Interesting. I found this on Ann Coulter's website:

Article I, Section 8, and Article III, Section 1 of the Constitution give Congress the power to establish the jurisdiction of the lower federal courts and to create exceptions to that jurisdiction.

Congress could pass a statute limiting federal court jurisdiction to individuals not subject to trial before a military tribunal. Any legislator who votes "nay" on a such a bill will be voting to give foreign terrorists the same legal rights as U.S. citizens -- and more legal rights than members of the U.S. military are entitled to.

    ReplyDelete
  28. That has always been the case, rufus, even back when GW Bush was President, and the Congress did not do it, the President did not ask them to.

This President certainly will not break with that precedent.

  29. Sarah's got some hard core supporters out here in older white polite male land. Honestly, she's the only politician I've ever really been excited about.

Lot of us geezers love that woman.

She has a future, I think.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Selling books, she does.

Acting as a spokesperson for the disenchanted "Right", she may.

    As President, nah.

Not enough old, polite white guys to get that done.

    Hers is a diminishing demographic.
