COLLECTIVE MADNESS

“Soft despotism is a term coined by Alexis de Tocqueville describing the state into which a country overrun by "a network of small complicated rules" might degrade. Soft despotism is different from despotism (also called 'hard despotism') in the sense that it is not obvious to the people."

Social security for illegal aliens? Why not, it's only your money.

Social Security for illegal aliens
By Stephen Dinan, January 4, 2007

THE WASHINGTON TIMES

An agreement the Bush administration reached with Mexico on Social Security benefits would allow illegal aliens granted amnesty in the future to claim credit for the time they worked illegally.
The deal was reached in 2004 but never released publicly because it hasn't been submitted to Congress. The TREA Senior Citizens League, a Social Security advocacy group, recently obtained the document through a Freedom of Information Act, and said it confirms the group's worst fears.

The document is a jumble of definitions and legal language, but a spokesman for the group said what's important is what's not in the text: It does nothing to prevent undocumented aliens who later get legal status from receiving benefits for the time they worked illegally. And that comes as the Social Security system's finances are about to be put under greater strain by the retirement of baby boomers.

"If you open up the trust fund to people who have been working in the country illegally for many years, that bankruptcy date can only come sooner," spokesman Brad Phillips said. "People on the other side of this, people who have been arguing that of course illegal aliens can't get their hands on Social Security benefits, now can't make that argument easily anymore."

But Mark Lassiter, a spokesman for the Social Security Administration, said the agreement doesn't change U.S. law. The law states that those who do not have authorization to work will not get benefits under a totalization agreement.

  1. If this "passes" we're gonna see a MUCH larger surge take place.

What the heck is the President thinking?

  2. triton, I get in trouble when challenged with questions like: "What the heck is the President thinking?

You don't want me to get in trouble do you?

  3. I've been a strong supporter of the President all through his two terms... but this illegal alien business has me questioning my allegiance.

I need to do some research before I pop a gasket...

(It's just that this is the sort of thing that we'd have associated with Billary's way of doing things... it's not quite "stroke of the pen, law of the land, etc etc" but unless it deals with national security, I have a BIG problem with seeing this being drafted in the dark.)

  4. Let me suggest something. Bush has had six years to do something about illegal imigration. He did not. The Democrats will. If you were an illegal and given legal status, do you think you will vote Republican?

The illegals are going to get a pass. When that happens New Mexico, Nevada, Colorado, and Texas will vote Democratic and you will likely never see another Conservative Republican President again.

  6. Bush has done his best to give away the country.
    Done a fine job, too.
I hate the man and respect him and his self-righteous hypocrisy not one whit.
Citizens die each day as a direct result of his refusing to enforce the law.
    May he burn in Hell.

On June 5, nine-year-old Jordin Paulder, a towheaded boy with “chubby cheeks,” as the newspapers described him, was playing in the parking lot of the Chastain Apartments in Sandy Springs, Georgia, part of metro Atlanta.

Jordin saw a car go by and called out to the occupants. The car had a bum tire, the lad shouted. The car stopped, and Santos Benigno Cabrera Borjas emerged [illegal alien], wielding a hatchet.

He twice smashed Jordin in the face between the nose and forehead. The second blow buried the hatchet, which paramedics feared removing en route to the hospital. Jordin died.

When police cornered Borjas as paramedics worked on Jordin, the ax-murderer tossed a rimmed tire at an officer, breaking his arm. Borjas rushed the cop, who shot him dead.

  7. Bush overseeing thousands of innocent citizens being slaughtered is no big deal.
    I think it is:
    Ergo, I have BDS.

  8. On a local talk show a man called and told of his experience at UCLA hospital. His son was recently diagnosed with leukemia and while at UCLA he was the only white kid and all the other kids were basically illegal. The children of illegals he said received rapid care with no demand to pay prior to particular treatments / procedures.

The white fathers however had to pay up front for his son’s procedures if his insurance didn’t cover it, or pay the co-payment like a good law abiding sucker citizen.

The father complained to UCLA administrators and he was told because the other kids were illegal and had no insurance the hospital didn’t need to get approval for the procedures. The legal white kid had to jump through all the hoops. And here’s the kicker as if this story needs one, the hospital gave the father a number to a mortgage broker.

This is a national outrage. This is why I call our political jackals sellouts.

  9. That policy of putting unarmed National Guardsmen on the border has turned out real swell:
    Friday, January 05th, 2007

A U.S. Border Patrol entry Identification Team site was overrun Wednesday night along Arizona’s border with Mexico.

According to the Border Patrol, an unknown number of gunmen attacked the site in the state’s West Desert Region around 11 p.m. The site is manned by National Guardsmen. Those guardsmen were forced to retreat.

The Border Patrol will not say whether shots were fired. However, no Guardsmen were injured in the incident.

The Border Patrol says the incident occurred somewhere along the 120 mile section of the border between Nogales and Lukeville. The area is known as a drug corridor. Last year, 124-thousand pounds of illegal drugs were confiscated in this area.

The Border patrol says the attackers quickly retreated back into Mexico.

    Good thing they were unarmed:
Bush would have approved of sending them to jail had they injured an attacker.
