COLLECTIVE MADNESS

“Soft despotism is a term coined by Alexis de Tocqueville describing the state into which a country overrun by "a network of small complicated rules" might degrade. Soft despotism is different from despotism (also called 'hard despotism') in the sense that it is not obvious to the people."

Repeal Obamacare? Check. End illegal immigration? Check. Build the wall? Check. Crush the Deep State? Done, by God, done!

There is no difference between Republicans and Democrats. Put them together. They are the swamp.

Exclusive – Brent Bozell: The Slow Death of the Republican Party

The Grand Old Party is about to commit suicide.

All this talk about Trump this, and Trump that, masks a far bigger political controversy. The Republican Party leadership in Washington, D.C., has fundamentally betrayed its constituents and they are about to learn that they’ve been double-crossed — for years.

Every Republican candidate’s stock speech sounds the same, the thunderous roar about a government out of control, federal spending out of control (insert charts and graphs and why, if you stack hundred dollar bills, they will reach the edge of the universe), federal taxes out of control (insert comparisons to socialist countries), the federal bureaucracy out of control (insert metaphors about chains, yokes, and the like), the family shattered with federal funding of abortion a crime against humanity (watch for it — there! The heart-wrenching sob), and our military is emasculated.

Two more items were added to the menu, courtesy of Obama. Obamacare Will Be Repealed! and Illegal Immigration Will Not Stand!

In 2009, the Democrats controlled everything, partly due to the Republicans’ cowardice on Capitol Hill, and in part because of some of the most inept candidates and campaigns America has seen in years. The Obama folks could have played it safe but went for socialist gold, using the power of the legislative and the executive branches (and later the judiciary, thank you Justice Roberts) to advance their agenda.

That included federal spending on a level unmatched in human history resulting ultimately in a $19 trillion in debt we simply cannot pay, and with so many tens of trillions of dollars in unfunded liabilities that “infinity” is not far behind. One seventh of the economy was confiscated by the federal government with the passage of Obamacare. Our national borders were declared open and discussions over our national sovereignty closed. And to top it off, the Democrats all but declared themselves above the law.

The GOP harrumphed that this would not stand, by God! If only… if only America would vote them into the majority.

In 2009, the Tea Party was born. The Grand Old Party was rejuvenated. Happy days were here again.

Just one year later, the Republicans captured the House, and with that, the power of the purse. They now had the authority to stop the insane spending on so many obnoxious and wholly unnecessary ventures. They could end Obamacare simply by not funding it.

Instead, under the “leadership” of John Boehner, it did absolutely nothing. Why, if only we had the Senate! Then we could take on the President!

So in 2014, after spending hundreds of millions of campaign dollars running hundreds of thousands of television and radio ads pledging to end illegal immigration while repealing Obamacare “root and branch” (author: Mitch McConnell), they were given control of the Senate.

And within a month McConnell re-authorized both, along with every single other thing Harry Reid and Obama wanted for yet another year.

But that’s because we can’t do what we promised until we have the Presidency! The excuse was as predictable as summer heat in the Sahara.

In 2016, they were given that too.

They were given everything.

In January of this year, they formally controlled both houses of Congress and the executive branch. Every single thing they’d ever promised was now possible.
They now had the power to enact every single spending cut they’d ever solemnly pledged. All those wasteful programs designed to fill the liberal sandbox — PBS, NPR, Planned Parenthood, NEH and the rest of the alphabet soup; all the hundreds of billions of dollars in corporate welfare to multi-billion-dollar corporations; all of the hundreds of billions of dollars directed toward leftist social engineering — poof! All of it could come to an end with a stroke of a pen.

They now had the power to restore fiscal tax sanity too. Remember the flat tax?
The fair tax? Slashing the highest corporate taxes in the world? Giving you a tax break? All of it could be done with a snap of the fingers.

Repeal Obamacare? Check. End illegal immigration? Check. Build the wall? Check.

Crush the Deep State? Done, by God, done!

There was not a damn thing the Democrats could do to stop them from draining the swamp.

Except the Republican leadership didn’t mean it. With the exception of the Freedom Caucus in the House, and literally a handful in the Senate, the rank-and-file didn’t either. Not one word of it.

The opportunity arose for the vote to repeal Obamacare, and after huffing and puffing, and huffing and puffing some more, the dust settled and socialized health care remains the law of the land, perhaps permanently.

The opportunity arose for tax reform, to enact the cuts America desperately needs. It was never a matter of if, it was a matter of how much. It is now mid-August and nothing, absolutely nothing has been accomplished — even attempted!

And now we face the final test: the debt ceiling. Will we or won’t we stop the spending madness? Will the Republicans enact the cuts they’ve promised, or will they now be the ones to kick the can, piling evermore trillions of dollars of debt on their own grandchildren?

By every indication that’s precisely what they plan to do. The signal has come from President Trump, from Speaker Ryan, and from Majority Leader McConnell. The debt ceiling will be raised and no fiscal sanity will be restored.

There is no difference between Republicans and Democrats. Put them together. They are the swamp.

Just as Republicans have the power to enact the agenda they’ve pledged in toto, so too do they now own the federal government, in toto. It’s no longer Obamacare. It’s GOPcare. It’s no longer crazy liberal Democratic spending. It’s crazy liberal Republican spending. It’s no longer socialist Democratic Party taxation, it’s socialist Republican Party taxation. All the legislation authorizing all these programs, all the graft, all the waste, all the obscenity, all the immorality, and where Planned Parenthood is concerned, all the killing — all of it is now formally authored by the Republican Party.

Come the Congressional elections next year, and the presidential election in 2020, the Grand Old Party will once again bellow its hallowed promises. But this time it won’t work. This time there will be no straw men to blame. This time their voters will know those hallowed promises are not even hollow promises. They are lies.

These voters are tasting betrayal. They will not vote to swallow more vomit.

We are watching the GOP systematically committing suicide.

  3. Another Democrat opts for Chaos:

Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott says he hasn't yet spoken to Democratic Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner — despite repeated attempts.

Abbott said Sunday at an Austin news conference he'd called Tuner's cell phone "several times" to "let him know that, whatever he needs, the state of Texas will provide." Abbott said he'd yet to hear back.

Abbott's office later clarified that the governor had called Turner four times since Friday and left two messages, to no avail.

The governor and mayor clashed before Hurricane Harvey made landfall Friday, with Abbott suggesting people in Houston might want to evacuate but Turner saying fleeing unnecessarily would clog highways for those leaving other communities facing bigger threats.

Ancient works not read by humans since the Dark Ages have been found at an Egyptian monastery, using a technique that allows researchers to reconstruct documents long ago scrubbed off parchment.

The finds at Saint Catherine’s monastery on the Sinai peninsula hailed a “new golden age of discovery”, according to the scientists behind the research, who believe that the methods could reveal many other lost texts.

They have been chronicling the monastery’s library, which has been in continuous use for 1,500 years, but which is today threatened by growing Islamic fundamentalism and attacks on Christians in the region.

Among the discoveries were three ancient Greek medical texts that were previously unknown to scholars, as well as the earliest copies of some from Hippocrates.

OPINION | The real threat to our republic is the Orwellian Antifa
BY NED RYUN, OPINION CONTRIBUTOR - 08/27/17 07:00 AM EDT

Antifa Movement On The Rise After Trump's Charlottesville Remarks
    Inform

    Autoplay: On | Off

Over the past few months, we have finally entered the fully realized historical revisionism promised in George Orwell’s “1984,” in which the motto, “Who controls the present controls the past. Who controls the past controls the future,” was central to shaping the book’s dystopian world. In the book, history was continually being rewritten and re-promulgated to meet the political necessities of the moment. There was no history to be remembered, let alone lessons to be learned.

For all the talk of Trumpian bluster or exaggeration, there is only one group that seeks to systematically and violently achieve its goals here in the United States on a broad scale: the so-called “anti-facist” movement, now commonly called “Antifa.” And the goal? It’s not “anti-facist” or “anti-racist” as they attempt to portray themselves. It’s the systematic elimination of free speech, free assembly, and free thought via any means necessary, including violent protest, the media and Orwellian revisionism.

It is the imposition of a perverse type of intolerance based on Marxist and Chinese communist values that, it turns out, is far more welcome and pervasive within the Democrat Party of Sens. Bernie Sanders (D-Vt.) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) than neo-Nazis, the KKK and white supremacists are in the Republican Party. The gunman, James Hodgkinson, who shot Rep. Steve Scalise and four others in Alexandria was a habitual Antifa website visitor and advocate and Sanders volunteer. Even Democrat vice presidential candidate, Sen. Tim Kaine’s (D-Va.) son has been identified as an Antifa activist.

Yet, the media would have us believe that it is the white supremacist movement that is the real threat to our republic. Consider that most media estimates put the Antifa movement, largely built out of the “Occupy” movement of 2008-2010, at more than 200,000 members. The Southern Poverty Law Center, on the other hand, puts the number of Klu Klux Klan members at about 6,000 KKK …in a country of almost 330 million. But actions speak volumes compared to mere numbers.....

OPINION | The real threat to our republic is the Orwellian Antifa

      Hyperbolic nonsense.

Antifa is admittedly more a danger to 1st Amendment rights than the nuts on the far right, but a threat to the republic? Not likely.

From what I've seen and read they are a bunch of young punks, half of them poor little rich kids, looking for excitement and pretending to give a shit about the 'causes' they purport to defend. They'll go out on weekends and cause trouble until they get a job and have to pay taxes and get coopted into the very things they say they are now fighting against. The change would come quicker than that if the cops would get off their asses and actually started arresting and charging them so that they had to go crying to mommy to get them out of jail.

The push by the left to rewrite history is more troubling but there is nothing new in it. Every tin pot dictator, every new party in power tries to rewrite history as soon as they get the chance. It's why there are limits on what and when public records are released 'to the public'. It's why everything from menus to meeting participants are classified. It's why when you turn in a FOIA requested you can expect to get pages back that are completely blacked out. It's why George Bush was going back and reclassifying data and pulling in all the copies he could locate of info that had been declassified and in the public domain for decades. It's why the CIA buys out entire 1st editions of books it doesn't want to see published.

Heck, forget about history being rewritten by regimes like that of Stalin, simply look at so-called democracies like the UK. They made a concerted effort to wipe out the history of the crimes and piracy involved in a few hundred years of the colonial rule. Luckily, that's a massive undertaking and they couldn't get it all. From what was left, there are book out there documenting what did happen.

Antifa an existential threat to the republic? I kind of doubt that.

Besides, Antifa will soon be the least of your worries.

The campaign was led by Chairman Mao Zedong and aimed to rapidly transform the country from an agrarian economy into a socialist society through rapid industrialization and collectivization. However, it is widely considered to have caused the Great Chinese Famine.

Birds raised for meat may be sold as “free-range” if they have government certified access to the outdoors. The door may be open for only five minutes and the farm still qualifies as “free-range.” Apart from the “open door,” no other criteria such as environmental quality, number of birds, or space per bird, are included in the term “free-range.” A government official said: “Places I’ve visited may have just a gravel yard with no alfalfa or other vegetation.”

A visitor to Polyface Farm in Virginia wrote: “I toured Polyface on a sweltering day. Chickens were in tiny cages with tin roofs in the beating sun, panting like mad. The cages were located over manure piles the birds were supposed to eat larvae from. Rabbits were kept in factory-farm conditions in suspended, barren wire cages. There was no sign of freedom or compassion for these animals.”

    1. Zabol, Iran

This most polluted city in the world is the capital of the county located in Sistan and Baluchistan Province in Iran. It is situated in the border of Afghanistan.

Suffocating dust storms are very frequent in this largely neglected area that is inundated by poverty. Drying of wetalnds, lakes, rivers and decline of ground water have all resulted in alarming level of pollution in the city.

    Gwalior, India

It is a major and most polluted city in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh in 2017. It has an annual average of 176 PM 2.5 in micrograms per cubic metre.

The reasons maybe due to reliance on fossil fuels for vehicles and plantations, mismanagement of garbage and drainage and depletion of water sources.

    Allahabad, India

It is a city in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Although it is only the 36th most populous city in the country with a population of about 1,117,094.

The levels of Suspended Particulate Matter and Respirable Suspended Particulate Matter are alarmingly high with particles like soot, dust matter, toxic gases are being recorded.

Dearborn Muslims in uproar over Christian proselytizing, police chief admits it “appears to be legal”

AUGUST 27, 2017 12:59 PM BY ROBERT SPENCER

This Arab American News story is written as if the Christian preachers were spreading bubonic plague, and of course, for the Muslims interviewed for it, they might as well have been: Islamic law mandates death for those who leave the religion, and so from the Islamic perspective, these preachers were actively endangering the lives of those Muslims to whom they were preaching.

Nonetheless, it is not illegal in the United States to preach Christianity or any other religion. It is only illegal to preach Christianity under Islamic law. But perhaps unsure as to whether Dearborn were under the rule of the U.S. Constitution or Sharia, Dearborn Police Chief Ron Haddad checked with lawyers and got the bad news: “According to our corporation counsel, it appears to be legal to engage in the noted activities under the First Amendment in the park.”

At least he asked this time. A few years ago, Dearborn Police arrested some Christian evangelists for daring to try to preach to Muslims (the video and photos are gone from that link, but you can still get the gist of what happened). But remember: if you’re concerned about the influence of Sharia in the U.S., you’re a racist, bigoted “Islamophobe.”

“Christian missionaries from California proselytize in Hemlock Park,” by Stephen Martin, Arab American News, August 18, 2017 (thanks to Creeping Sharia):

DEARBORN — On August 7 and 8, Christian missionaries from California visited Hemlock Park in East Dearborn. In the span of two days, workers face-painted with children, handed out prizes and shared their faith. A number of the parents who were in the park allowed their children to venture into the event unaware of the religious preaching. Some of the parents didn’t know what their kids were engaged in due to the language barrier.

“According to our corporation counsel, it appears to be legal to engage in the noted activities under the First Amendment in the park, ” Police Chief Ron Haddad told The AANews.

On video obtained by The AANews, which was filmed by Heather Faye and Christy Lynn on Aug. 8, a preacher appears to be proselytizing Christianity to the Dearborn youths. The missionary workers came from all different places, but most were from California, according to one of the missionary workers, Jessica Cserhalmi.

The worrisome thing, Lynn told the Detroit Free Press, is that the missionaries weren’t really approaching the parents.

“They were approaching the children,” she said….

    1. Dearborn resident Labaneya Maisoun wasn’t present for the missionary activities on either Aug. 7 or 8, but did witness the conclusion of a similar event at Hemlock Park toward the end of July, during an Eid al-Fitr celebration. She said she didn’t know if the same missionary workers were in Dearborn on both occasions.

Maisoun said a non-profit Islamic organization was holding the Eid al-Fitr event and that the missionary workers chose that specific day to come to Dearborn. She also said she witnessed a heated exchange between one missionary worker and a parent.

“Some of our sisters wanted to diffuse the problems,” she said. “We don’t want any problems with our Christian brethren. We all have one faith under one God.”

Maisoun said the missionary workers enticed the youth with a henna party, candy and other treats, then preached to the children about Jesus.

“The kids don’t mind, they love Jesus,” she said, adding that the missionary workers are misusing the lack of proficiency in English by the parents, many of whom are newcomers.

The video from August 8 sparked a debate in the community on The Arab American News Facebook page.

“[Hemlock] is a public park and so parents need to be aware of what is happening around them, watch their kids and be present for such moments as this,” said Stephen Coats, who wrote that he has lived in Dearborn since 2001.

“Don’t be the victim, get smart, keep to your own and don’t wait around for Allah to make a decision,” Ayad Succar wrote. “Make it yourself, know what the person with a loudspeaker is saying to your child, know your environment.”…

Trump let Kelly know he wanted tariffs against China. "John, you haven't been in a trade discussion before, so I want to share with you my views," he said, according to several Axios sources. "For the last six months, this same group of geniuses comes in here all the time and I tell them, 'Tariffs. I want tariffs.' And what do they do? They bring me IP. I can't put a tariff on IP." (You actually can use tariffs to combat Chinese IP theft, Swan notes.)

During this discussion, Cohn, who opposes tariffs, apparently looked appalled at Trump's comments. "John, let me tell you why they didn't bring me any tariffs," Trump reportedly continued. "I know there are some people in the room right now that are upset. I know there are some globalists in the room right now. And they don't want them, John, they don't want the tariffs. But I'm telling you, I want tariffs." "Globalist" is the preferred word for Cohn at Bannon's news outlet, Breitbart.

Trump is also getting "increasingly frustrated" with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Swan reports. There are several reasons, including staffing disputes, but after one recent meeting on Afghanistan, Trump reportedly said, "Rex just doesn't get it, he's totally establishment in his thinking."

Joe Arpaio may challenge Jeff Flake for Arizona Senate seat: Exclusive
    by Steven Nelson | Aug 28, 2017, 12:01 PM

After receiving President Trump's first pardon, Joe Arpaio's plans have gone from possible prison to book-writing, speeches and potentially another run for office in Arizona, with Sen. Jeff Flake's seat one opportunity he is eyeing.

The former Maricopa County sheriff told the Washington Examiner he's upset at negative reaction to the Friday pardon, and that he feels Republican politicians are insufficiently supportive of the president, who he calls a great man.

"I could run for mayor, I could run for legislator, I could run for Senate," Arpaio said Monday. One particular race, however, is likely to gain significant attention: the GOP primary next year facing Flake, R-Ariz., a forceful Trump critic.

"I'm sure getting a lot of people around the state asking me" to challenge Flake, said Arpaio, who served 24 years as sheriff before losing reelection in 2016. "All I'm saying is the door is open and we'll see what happens. I've got support. I know what support I have."

Arpaio said he swore off another candidacy in January, when he left office, but that "with what I've seen happening in recent months, especially what's happening with our president, I said, 'Hey, why not?'"....

    2. THE TIME HAS COME TO STOP THE WAR ON FREE SPEECH

If local authorities won’t do it, the Federal government must.

      August 28, 2017 Daniel Greenfield

Freedom of Assembly is the first and most important right of the Bill of Rights. Today it is being denied in cities like Berkeley and Portland where local left-wing governments have contrived to deny rally permits while giving the masked thugs of their leftist Antifa allies a blank check to assault those whose views they oppose.

In Berkley, Boston and San Francisco, the First Amendment doesn’t exist anymore.

The threat of violence that shut down the Patriot Prayer demonstration in San Francisco, an event scheduled to feature African American, Samoan and Latino speakers, is a case of fascism justifying itself by flying the false flag of “anti-fascism.” And it is the third such case this week – the others being Boston and Berkeley. The founder of Patriot Prayer, Joey Gibson, is a Japanese American who regards himself as a “person of color” and who had made it very clear that he opposes Neo-Nazis and white supremacists, and who has publicly stated that his goal is to promote “love” not hate.

This time the violence and hate were coming from one side, and one side only.......

......Reagan and Eisenhower made it clear that mob violence would not be tolerated. And they were willing to back up the Constitution and our political freedoms with force.

That’s what must be done to restore First Amendment rights in Berkeley and everywhere Antifa mobs seek to shut down the free speech of those they disagree with. If leftist governors and mayors won’t protect the rights and safety of their citizens, then it’s up to the federal government to step in and do it for them.

  34. New Poll Says Flake Is In Deep Trouble In Arizona GOP Primary

    4:14 PM 08/28/2017

Republican Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake, one of President Donald Trump’s rivals, should be worried about keeping his Senate seat, according to a poll released Monday.

The JMC Analytics poll said that if the GOP primary for the 2018 election was held over the weekend challenger Kelli Ward would be ahead with 47 percent, and Sen. Flake would be behind with 21 percent. Twenty-nine percent of Republican voters said they were undecided.

Flake and Trump have attacked one another, and Trump recently tweeted, “Great to see that Dr. Kelli Ward is running against Flake Jeff Flake, who is WEAK on borders, crime and a non-factor in Senate. He’s toxic!”

Republican Arizona Senator Jeff Flake departs after a briefing by Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Secretary of Defense James Mattis before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on the ongoing fight against the Islamic State, on Capitol Hill in Washington, August 2, 2017. This wasn’t a direct endorsement of the former state senator, but Trump allies are certainly behind Ward. A pro-Trump super PAC, Great America PAC, spent $20,000 helping Ward, according to federal election filings. In addition, prominent Trump donor Robert Mercer gave $300,000 to Ward. Mercer previously gave to Ward’s 2016 campaign in which she failed to beat Sen. John McCain in the state’s GOP primary.

One result in Monday’s poll that bodes well for Ward is that 67 percent of likely Republican voters have an unfavorable opinion of Flake and just 22 percent like him. Forty-three percent of those polled have a favorable opinion of Ward. The poll also said that 66 percent of likely GOP voters think someone other than Flake should be the GOP nominee for the 2018 race.

The JMC Analytics poll was conducted on August 26 and August 27 and was of 500 likely Republican voters. It has a margin of error of 4.4 percent.

If Japan chooses to take that route, Japan notifies the US and we may be at war.

Maybe not, but a deliberate calculated strategy of placing assets to support an attack by Japan and the US will force China to make a decision.

    After that, anyone's guess.
