“Soft despotism is a term coined by Alexis de Tocqueville describing the state into which a country overrun by "a network of small complicated rules" might degrade. Soft despotism is different from despotism (also called 'hard despotism') in the sense that it is not obvious to the people."

Don't divert from the party line on Charlottesville.

  • GOVERNOR OF COMMONWEALTH: Terry McAuliffe (D) (McAuliffe's response that law enforcement's handling of the violence was successful because there were no bullets fired and "zero property damage") McAuliffe is white.
  • ATTORNEY GENERAL VIRGINIA: Mark Herring (D) Previously, he served in the Senate of Virginia since a 2006 special election. Herring is White.
  • MAYOR: Michael Signer (D) is the mayor of Charlottesville, Virginia and an author, advocate, political theorist, and attorney. He is a Virginia Democratic activist and former candidate for lieutenant governor. Signer is white.
  • VICE MAYOR - Wes Bellamy, (D) (Charlottesville Vice Mayor Wes Bellamy repeatedly calls Trump '45', refuses to call him president) Bellamy is black.
  • CITY MANAGER: Maurice Jones (D) first served February, 2008 to April, 2010  as Assistant City Manager. Charged with leading the City’s community relations efforts, Maurice served as the primary staff contact on the City’s Dialogue on Race initiative; worked closely with Police Chief Timothy Longo to establish the Citizens Advisory Panel; managed the City’s Quality of Service and Efficiency Study; and worked with neighborhood associations and residents on variety of community issues. Jones is black.
  • POLICE CHIEF: Chief Al S. Thomas Jr. (D) Currently chief of the Lexington Police Department,  Charlottesville’s first black police chief.Thomas is black.

Now I ask a question: Who is responsible to maintain law and order in the City of Charlottesville, in The Commonwealth of Virginia?

Obviously it is Trump's fault.

  1. Hypocrites get offended by the truth.

  2. Had anyone in that chain of command fulfilled their public duty, used some common sense and enforced the law, there would have been no deadly, no injured and no riot

  3. Now lets hear from the brother from the north.

  4. Six levels of authority in Charlottesville, Virginia, all Democrats. Incompetent, one and all.

Dereliction of duty, of the first order, none of them resigning for a colossal big-ass big-time fuck up.

Squirrelly mother fuckers one and all.

Protected by the diversion tactics of the US media.

All of it Trump's fault because he wasn't paying attention. Trump so busy with the Norks should have been there. Trump so impolite as to have noticed that the mostly white radicals, rioting by the Leftist playbook, were just as culpable as the jack-booted white heathens.

    Where were the cops?

  5. It's funny - listened to democracy now folk going on about this same issue - where were the cops? They noted how the cops responded to demonstrations in Ferguson and wondered why they didn't approach Charlottesville in the same way.

    1. Maybe they were scared by all the torches and guns...

    2. They should have stayed quietly in their apartments.

      It wasn't their demo.

      They had no permit.

They went looking for trouble, as always, and got it.

They should have stayed home and let the Nazi/KKK scum make fools of themselves.

Instead the antifa scum got into it, and at least one person died.

Except for the auto homicide freak both sides look equally to blame to me, with maybe some extra guilty points going to antifa for crashing and bashing the demo.

    3. When these two scum factions fight I often hope for an outcome similar to that described by Chaucer in Chevy Chase.

Nearly all dead, the remnant is reduced to fighting from the stumps of their legs, all left of their mobility.

    4. The deer in the forests of Chevy are left to go about their own business, unmolested, unhunted.

    5. So many human beings were idiots, assholes, and scum in Chaucer's day, and remain so today as well.

  6. They wanted an incident. It got out of hand. It got away from them. They got their incident.

    Blame Trump.

  7. There was no surprise here, Everyone knew the players in advance, the history and the mood and temper of the times.

    it got away from them.

  8. The entire thing is Shakespearian

  9. Corporate America just dumped, in mass, on Donald Trump, the Emasculated President.

He did it to himself, no help required from the usual suspects.

    and many, many more ...

The biggest names in corporate America ....

Repeal & Replace, Tax Reform, Infrastructure, Immigration Reform, the Trump Agenda is dying on the vine ...

With no one to blame but Donald Trump, the emasculated President of the United States
He's done it to himself, no help required from the Democrats, News Media or George Soros.

    1. So sad, really, that the President of the United States is, as Robert "Draft Dodger" Peterson has told us, a fool ...

Jesus, do I hope it works.

    It would be a miracle.

  11. No question, Trump is wounded, The Republicans will abandon him.

    1. As well they should.

Mr Trump, a life long Democrat prior to 2010, never was a real Republican, just another RINO.
One that has damaged the "Conservative" movement in the US for decades to come.

  12. Three Antifa Protesters Arrested Outside Chicago Courthouse
JOHN SEXTONPosted at 3:01 pm on August 16, 2017

Three Antifa protesters were arrested outside a Chicago courthouse yesterday after getting into a scuffle with police. From the Chicago Tribune:

About two dozen protesters, many wearing bandanas or masks covering their faces, gathered near the doors of a Cook County courthouse at 2452 W. Belmont Ave., where they held banners condemning white supremacy and chanted “Neo-Nazis go away! Racist, sexist, anti-gay!”…

After about 90 minutes, the protesters took to the streets, briefly blocking the intersection of Clybourn and Western avenues. Police ordered the activists to return to the sidewalk, when an altercation between an officer and a masked protester broke out.

As you can see in this video, when police started to arrest one man, other protesters tried to pull him away. That led to the arrest of a second individual. The third arrest came a few minutes later.

This video published by DNA Info picks up approximately where the one above ends. The protester in the blue shirt by the fence is struggling as two police officers try to arrest him.

Note that as the protesters are arrested, their compatriots are chanting “Cops and Klan go hand in hand.” The protesters also held up a banner which connected police with the Klan:

DNA Info reports this sentiment was widespread among the protesters:

As multiple marked squad cars rushed to the scene Tuesday afternoon, one demonstrator could be heard shouting to police, “F— you, you fascist f—s.’…

Protesters likened the police action to tactics used by white supremacists and accused officers of displaying brute force in an attempt to intimidate the activists.

“As organizers, we know, now as ever, that the police are part of the same fascist structures which have produced the state of social violence we see today,” wrote the organizing groups Black Rose-Rosa Negra Chicago and Haymaker Chicago.
These are extreme views which shouldn’t be given a pass by media covering these events. The Chicago Tribune included a photo of the sign above but made no mention of any of the anti-police rhetoric. Similarly, most of the news coverage of the arrest in Durham yesterday didn’t mention that the woman who was arrested had compared police to Confederate soldiers, nor did they mention that her fellow protesters were chanting “Cops and Klan go hand in hand” as she was arrested.” We’ve seen this kind of sanitizing of left-wing extremism by the media many times. It needs to stop.

    All this shit is choreographed.

    I smell Alinsky and Soros.

    1. You've never had a sense of smell, "Draft Dodger", in fact most all of your senses are dim.

Special counsel's Russia probe loses top FBI investigator
By MIKE LEVINE Aug 16, 2017, 1:43 PM ET
    J. Scott Applewhite/AP
COMING UPSpecial counsel impanels grand jury in Russian investigation
One of the FBI's top investigators, tapped by special counsel Robert Mueller just weeks ago to help lead the probe of Russian meddling in last year's presidential election, has left Mueller’s team, sources tell ABC News.

The recent departure of FBI veteran Peter Strzok is the first known hitch in a secretive probe that by all public accounts is charging full-steam ahead. Just last week, news surfaced that Mueller's team had executed a search warrant at the Virginia home of Donald Trump’s former campaign manager, Paul Manafort. And the week before that ABC News confirmed Mueller is now using a federal grand jury in Washington, D.C., to collect documents and other evidence.

What to know about Mueller's use of a grand jury in the Russia probe
It's unclear why Strzok stepped away from Mueller's team of nearly two dozen lawyers, investigators and administrative staff. Strzok, who has spent much of his law enforcement career working counterintelligence cases and has been unanimously praised by government officials who spoke with ABC News, is now working for the FBI's human resources division.

He is no stranger to complex and controversial investigations.

As chief of the FBI's counterespionage section last year, he helped oversee the FBI's investigation into Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server, and he took part in the FBI interview of the Democratic presidential candidate.

Within weeks of the Clinton probe ending, Strzok found his office facing a new challenge: investigating Russia's alleged efforts to influence last year’s presidential election, including a cyberattack on the Democratic National Committee.

A spokesman for the special counsel's office declined to comment.

    3. Explain why it's "silly."

    4. .

Four days before the demonstration, Kessler was asked to hold the demonstration in the larger and better located McIntyre Park rather than Emancipation Park. He was told that Emancipation Park was too small to hold the demonstrations. He was told streets would need to be shut down in the area and it would create safety issues for both demonstrators and police.

Kessler refused. He insisted he would hold the rally in Emancipation Park. He got a federal judge to force the city to give him a permit specifically for Emancipation park.

Now, you are whining about safety issues associated with the rally.

      That was the silly part.

    5. So you hold the city harmless for granting permits on both sides of Kessler's permit?

    6. As the lady I quote below asks: Why didn't they grant permits for the leftist thugs elsewhere?

    7. Quirk, I believe you should get in between the antifa scum and the nazi/kkk scum and insist on peace and nonviolence.

You're the guy that is all reason and can convince.

You are missing your true calling.

Make certain you have Medicare Supplemental Insurance (Med Supp) before wading into it, though.

    8. The City could have chosen to close the downtown forum altogether and move all three permit-holders to McIntire Park.

      It did not do so.

Instead, the City Manager created a clear First Amendment crisis by revoking only one of the three downtown permits granted for this weekend, by failing to provide any evidentiary-based factual support for its actions, and by waiting to act until mere days before the anticipated rallies were to take place.

    9. Take Ash with you. Like David put Uriah at the front lines, have young Ash out in front in first position.

    10. .

The City could have chosen to close the downtown forum altogether and move all three permit-holders to McIntire Park.

Kessler refused any site other than Emancipation Park. What don't you get about that?

    11. What don't you get about the city having the right to move all three for safety reasons?

They didn't, giving Kessler a valid First Ammendment issue.

    12. If they had moved them all and he refused, he simply would not have had a leg to stand on.

...then there's the timing issue and the police, but for some reason you want to defend the dirty Democrats.

Outrage Addiction Is Making Us Stupid

  23. Dr. Ben & Candy Carson

Regarding all of the racial and political strife emanating from the events in Charlottesville last weekend, let me relate a story. Several years ago we bought a farm in rural Maryland. One of the neighbors immediately put up a Confederate flag. A friend of ours who is an African-American three-star general was coming to visit and immediately turned around concluding that he was in the wrong place. Interestingly, all the other neighbors immediately put up American flags shaming the other neighbor who took down the Confederate flag. More recently our home in Virginia along with that of a neighbor was vandalized by people who also wrote hateful rhetoric about President Trump. We were out of town, but other kind, embarrassed neighbors cleaned up most of the mess before we returned.
In both instances, less than kind behavior was met by people taking the high road. We could all learn from these examples. Hatred and bigotry unfortunately still exists in our country and we must all continue to fight it, but let's use the right tools. By the way, that neighbor who put up the Confederate flag subsequently became friendly. That is the likely outcome if we just learn to be neighborly and to get to know each other.

    1. Better to act like cowardly scum.

    2. This comment has been removed by the author.

    3. Bob Armantrout This is what the communists did when they came to power in my country (South Vietnam) in 1975.

First they destroyed the statues of our national heroes.
Then they changed the names of streets so that all the streets named for patriots were now named for traitors.

Then they took away everybody's house and said it belongs to the government.
If you had a car or piano or air conditioner, they took that too because they said you not allowed to be richer than other people. And the communists put those things in their own house.

Then they put in prison everybody who told the truth about communist and most of those people, we never saw again.

Then they changed the textbooks so the children didn't know the history of their country and they think communist is their savior.

From 1975 to 1990 my country got poorer and poorer. And in 2000 we finally got back to same level as in 1970.

Watch out Americans. Learn from the history. Now they come for you too

    4. Martha Byrd Bidal

"I wonder how Charlottesville might have had a different outcome if the permits for both groups had designated completely different areas, and if the press had simply declined to cover either group?"

  24. Kasich, who reminded the audience that he never endorsed Trump during last year's campaign, said he worried Trump's false equivalency would lead to the bullying of Jewish and African-Americans kids in the schools.

'And to not condemn these people who went there to carry out violence and to somehow draw some kind of equivalency to somebody else reduces the ability to totally condemn these hate groups,' Kasich warned.

Kasich and McConnell should be declared national heros.

    1. The truth is had the police done their job rather than stand down and actively corral the two groups into fighting one another (as you can see in the videos below) the violence could have been avoided.

  27. House Democrats are introducing a formal resolution to denounce President Donald Trump for saying that “both sides” are to blame for a violent encounter between white supremacists and neo-Nazis and the activists who showed up to protest them.

While the censure is unlikely to see traction in the GOP-led House, it serves as a rebuke to Trump and mirrors some of the Republican criticism the president has faced for his remarks.

“A president of the United States cannot support neo-Nazis. It’s just beyond the pale,” said Rep. Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., a member of the House Judiciary Committee. “I hope Republicans who have expressed outrage with what he said put their money where their mouth is.”

“But crowding round to photograph and touch it of course causes these animals to become extremely stressed.”

  36. Most of Trump's supporters liked the country just the way it was. Most do not like what is becoming and loathe those trying to force it down their throats.

The Left never wanted multiculturalism, they want cultural substitution.

We tried inclusion because we were shamed to think it was the right thing to do. We were wrong. We thought they would be grateful for what we did. They weren't. They want us to become who they think we should be.

The Left hates everything about what we had and will not be satisfied until we capitulate, resign and disappear.

The teaching establishment has discredited who we are to our children and is now intent on destroying our history.

We are in a civil war. The question is do we have what it takes to win it. I am doubtful.

We are witnessing the end of the lawful transition of power. An election result that we disagree with is now fair game for resistance and removal.

If we allow them to dump Trump with nothing but lies and distortions, we will lose it all.

This comes after the Washington Post ran a piece glamorizing left-wing thugs. Now Jeff Bezos' social justice tabloid continues hitting new lows in its war against civil society.

Today's entry is a cutesy Black Nationalist piece by Nathan D. B. Connolly, a History professor at Johns Hopkins who writes "about racism, capitalism, politics". Even though Connolly is on sabbatical, Hopkins' The Hub decided to promote his rant. It's also on the AP wire.

I'm not going to waste a lot of time taking it apart as I might have in some other context. It's the usual Black Nationalist bundle of revisionist history combined with "insights" about the evils of capitalism. And the failure of a liberal society to achieve his prefered objectives.

The whole thing is built around a "rock, paper, scissors" framing metaphor. But the metaphor is an obvious dog whistle.

The title is, "Charlottesville showed that liberalism can't defeat white supremacy.
    Only direct action can."

The conclusion is, "Segregationists have again assumed their pedestals in the Justice Department, the White House and many other American temples. Paper alone won't drive them out. Start throwing rocks."

There's enough plausible deniability that Connonlly can pretend that the "rocks" are a metaphor. Except no one is really that stupid.

    1. We have the Washington Post running an editorial calling for street violence.

That's a crime. We have very specific laws about inciting violence. It's time that they were applied.

The left has shown that it will not control its extremists. Instead it champions them. Conservatives have three options.

      1. Back street violence in return. Which effectively moves us toward a civil war and dissolution of civil society.

      2. Ignoring the violence and letting the left get away with it.

      3. Legal sanctions against those engaging in violence and those behind the violence

Door number 3 is scary. But numbers 1 and 2 are not viable options unless we want to wreck the country.

I don't believe any court will hold the Washington Post accountable for this, but it would send a forceful message that there is a price to pay for inciting violence.

    2. The left has shown that it will not control its extremists. Instead it champions them.

  38. Antifa is none of those things. It is tiny, not organized on a broad scale, and has precisely zero ties to any prominent Democrats.

No conservative can claim that he or she didn’t realize that’s what Trump was doing when they endorsed him, advocated for him, and supported him. They accepted that Trump was an ignorant fool and a misogynistic creep and deeply corrupt - and they also accepted that he was welcoming the racist right with open arms.

It’s nice that so many of them have come out and said they’re opposed to murderous Nazi terrorism. But however they might try to explain away their own complicity, they can’t blame it on liberals.

Let’s get something out of the way: Charlottesville is not about Confederate statues or Robert E. Lee or the Civil War or American history. What happened on Friday night and Saturday is about power, specifically about forcing the great mass of Americans to choose sides in a zero-sum clash between contemporary American versions of Weimar gangs.

The Left’s damnatio memoriae campaign to tear down Confederate statues shares something in common with the white supremacist impulse to stage tiki-torch rallies in defense of those statues: the ultimate goal isn’t to re-litigate the Civil War but to polarize the American body politic, to force the mainstream into a kind of crude tribalism.

Political violence and street fights of the kind we saw over the weekend in Charlottesville aren’t altogether new in America. We have seen such clashes — albeit less deadly ones — nearly every year for almost a decade. In nearly every case, they have been sought out and instigated by the extreme left.

But Richard Spencer and his sparse band of J. Crew Nazis chose the Lee statue for the site of their rally on Saturday for the simple reason that it was the best location for attracting attention and provoking a violent counter-protest from armed cadres of left-wing street fighters, which it did. They came to town, apparently from all over the country, looking for a fight that would be televised.

That strategy follows a certain logic, especially if your movement is small (estimates of white supremacist attendees were in the hundreds). For the left-wing counterprotesters, showing up en masse to attack such a gathering follows the same logic. The point is to put on a spectacle.

The fact is, neither the extreme left or the extreme right are representative of any significant constituencies in American politics. They do not wield actual power, but they have realized a way to exert out-sized influence through the instigation of publicly staged violence.

John Robb, author of a book on terrorism and social disruption called “Brave New War,” wrote an insightful blog post about how Charlottesville wasn’t really a protest so much as an “open invitation to a public fist fight between left and right.” It was a perfect example of “malicious social disruption” that “widened fault lines and damaged social cohesion at every level” — by design.

    Political Tribalism Is Anti-American

It bears repeating here that political tribalism, whether propagated by the Left or the Right, is deeply anti-American....

    1. Laugh and jeer all the jokers out of your lives, folks.

Point to them as freaks in a circus.

Then go home and have a nice dinner with your family, or friends, or by yourself.

Then get a good night's sleep.

  40. United States President Donald Trump has praised North Korean leader Kim Jong-un for a "wise and well reasoned" decision not to fire missiles towards the US territory of Guam, easing escalating tension between the two countries.

But experts have warned North Korea could still proceed with its provocative plan.

On Monday, in his first public appearance in about two weeks, Mr Kim examined the plan to fire four missiles to land near Guam, the official KCNA said in a report.

North Korea has long ignored warnings from the West and from its lone major ally, China, to halt its nuclear and missile tests, which it conducts in defiance of United Nations Security Council resolutions.

Fifteen Muslim teens treated for rabies after GANG RAPING a donkey… cops urge others who ‘admired’ the ass to come forward
By Pamela Geller - on August 16, 2017

It wasn’t just those 15 boys; many parents other had their children vaccinated in case they had engaged or “admired” the animal.

15th August 2017, By Jon Lockett, The Sun:

FIFTEEN teenagers in a rural Moroccan town have been treated for rabies after reportedly raping an infected local donkey, according to reports.

The youths, from Sidi Al Kamel spent a week in hospital being treated after the animal transmitted the disease to them, Morocco World News reported, citing the Moroccan daily Al Akhbar newspaper.

The shocking incident left the families of the youngsters “in distress and horror.”

It was also claimed the actual number infected could be a lot higher as many families took their sons for treatment at hospitals outside the immediate area to avoid shame.

The infected boys stayed at the Mechraa Belksiri Hospital for one week to receive rabies vaccination.

Local authorities are now trying to find anyone else who has “approached” or “admired” the animal closely to limit further spread of disease.

The occurrence quickly became the subject of mockery and ridicule among the population of the small town.

However, it has also become a subject of fear and shame for parents who, in the utmost secrecy, had their children vaccinated in case they had touched the animal.

The local authorities ordered the owner of the animal to slaughter it to avoid further risk of spreading the disease.

  42. Charlottesville: Either all racism is bad. Or all racism is acceptable.
By Pamela Geller - on August 16, 2017

Charlottesville is the left’s Reichstag moment.

If you are going to ban the Confederate flag, you have to ban the Democrat party, the party of slavery.

In Dallas, a black nationalist activist shot and killed 5 police officers at a Black Lives Matter anti-police rally. Instead of condemning BLM, Barack Obama defended a racist hate group whose role model is Assata Shakur, a wanted black nationalist cop killer, at the funerals of the murdered officers.

The left killed civil rights and replaced it with black nationalism. The racial supremacism of black nationalism that killed those officers is everywhere. Ta-Nehisi Coates and Ibram X. Kendi are lionized as brilliant thinkers instead of hateful racists, Amazon has ordered a black nationalist secessionist fantasy from Aaron McGruder and Showtime aired ‘Guerilla,’ a miniseries glamorizing Black Panther terrorism.

But racism is a two-way street. So is violence. Extremists feed into each other.

You can’t legitimize one form of racism without legitimizing all of them. The media may advance this hypocritical position. Obama used the shameful “reverse racism” euphemism that distinguishes between black and white racism. But propaganda and spin don’t change the physics of human nature.

Either all racism is bad. Or all racism is acceptable.

    1. Charlottesville is what happens when you normalize racism and street violence. Every normalization of extremism equally normalizes the extremism of the opposite side.

A civil society depends on a consensus. ‘Racism is bad’ is an example of such a consensus. If you normalize black nationalism, you will get more white nationalism. If you normalize leftist street violence against Trump supporters, you will also get more street violence against leftists.

Extremists want to eliminate the consensus of civil society. They want to destroy the idea that there’s any solution except violence through confrontations that show the helplessness of civil society.

That’s true of black nationalists and white nationalists, of Communists and Nazis, of Antifa and Vanguard, of the tankies and hipster Nazis of the Alt-Left and the Alt-Right. They’re a set of evil twins and when you unleash one, you unleash the other. Their real enemies aren’t each other, but everyone in the middle. The bourgeois normies who don’t want to replace society with their totalitarian nightmare.

Street violence raises the bar so that only the violent will participate in protests. If you “no platform” campus speakers, then the only speakers you get will be those willing to face bomb threats, arson, and physical assaults. If you fire people for their views, political activism becomes the province of anonymous trolls and unemployed street thugs. Extremism limits political discourse to extremists.

If Democrats really want to stop the rise of Neo-Nazi violence, there’s a very easy way. Stop normalizing black nationalism and the Alt-Left. End the racist witch hunts for white privilege. Make it clear that street violence is unacceptable and that racism is bad no matter who it comes from. Allow people you disagree with to express their views without trying to destroy their lives.

But that’s the opposite of what the Dems will do. They don’t want fewer Neo-Nazis; they want more of them. They don’t want fewer attacks like Charlottesville and Charleston. They want more of them.

The Dems have become an extremist party run by the radical left. Obama, Holder, and Lynch made common cause with black nationalist hate groups against civil society. It began when Obama defended the vile racism of Jeremiah Wright and concluded with DOJ organized race riots. DNC boss Tom Perez addresses La Raza and his deputy Keith Ellison is a veteran of the Nation of Islam.

    2. The radical left wants to see Neo-Nazis gain prominence on the right to polarize the country. It wants to see our values and norms drowned in violence so that it has an excuse to eliminate free speech. It seeks to eliminate democracy by making the other side appear nightmarishly dangerous. It plots to impose a totalitarian system on the United States by empowering extremists to destroy the current system.

And their opposite numbers waving swastika flags want the same thing. The difference is that they don’t control the Republican Party the way that the Alt-Left and black nationalists control the Democrats.

Charlottesville is what happens when civil society fails. And those who set the terms of permissive discourse, who control the media, academia and social norms, are responsible for the failure.

Conservatives don’t have that kind of power. It’s the left that does.

Liberals, if there are any left on the left, can shut down racism and extremism. Or they can continue normalizing it until it’s mainstream and meaningless.

If you want to understand how we got to Charlottesville, the events at Evergreen State on the other side of the country are as good a place as any to start.

Evergreen’s President Bridges, the progressive who had called for safe spaces and allowed intersectional left-wing racists to terrorize his campus over their demands for racial segregation, was asked in an interview about accusations that he is a white supremacist.

Bridges replied that he doesn’t believe that he is a white supremacist. And then added, “It depends on what you mean by white supremacist.” He concedes, “I am a white person in a position of privilege.”

White privilege is how the intersectional left defines white supremacy. Any white people who aren’t allying with them to destroy Western civilization are defined as white supremacists. And even those who do, like Bridges, can always be accused of white supremacy for not destroying it hard enough.

When you spend enough time accusing everyone who doesn’t share your politics or even your race of racism, you make the term meaningless.

    3. That’s what the left did over eight years of Obama. By the time the election rolled around, Hillary was defining all Trump voters as racists and sexists.

When you spend enough time crying wolf, eventually a real wolf appears. A real wolf showed up in Charlottesville.
The left spent eight years dismantling any meaningful definition of racism for political reasons. The practical effect of their actions was to eliminate social sanctions for actual racists.

And the real racists were happy to take advantage of the new climate.

When the left insists that everyone with white skin is part of white supremacy, that Shakespeare, Beethoven and all of Western civilization embody white supremacy, it’s echoing the actual talking points of white supremacy.

If you tell all Obama critics and Trump supporters that they’re racists often enough, some will decide that maybe they are racists.

If you tell a student who objects to racially segregated areas on campus that she is a white supremacist, she will be more likely to become one.

When you marginalize everyone to the right of you, some of the marginalized will accept the definition.
And when that happens, the left wins, the extremists win, and it becomes harder to maintain any kind of functioning civil society in which we settle conflicts through compromises rather than street violence.

      Compromises are uncomfortable.

After the Civil War, the Union was preserved, but Southerners were allowed to honor their cause. It was an uncomfortable compromise, but it helped limit the violence from a conflict that had claimed the lives of 2% of the population. The Taliban campaign by black nationalists to tear down Confederate memorials was a deliberate effort at shattering a compromise that kept civil society working.

And that too led to Charlottesville.

Uncomfortable compromises are how we learn to live with each other. It means that there can be memorials of Robert E. Lee and streets named after Malcolm X. Tolerating people whose views we don’t like is one of the best ways to marginalize domestic extremists. When one set of extremists is empowered to wipe out the other, we end up with a civil war. Just ask Edmund Ruffin and John Brown.

Democrats claim a mandate from the “Right Side of History” to eliminate all the compromises. Catholic nuns must pay for abortions and birth control, Christian bakers and florists must participate in gay weddings, every white person must confess their racism, and every left-wing extremist must get their way.

That’s how you tear a society apart.

The Bill of Rights is an uncomfortable compromise. It says that we have to put up with people we don’t like. The Democrats, under the influence of the left, are rejecting that idea. But that goes both ways too.
You can have a liberal society or an illiberal one. But you can’t have a society that is selectively liberal when it comes to your bigotry, but illiberal of the bigotry of others, that believes you have the right to say anything you please without consequences, but that no one else does, that you can punch, but not be punched. That’s a totalitarian state. And the only way to realize it is through violence.

Democrats need to take an honest look at the street violence in Seattle, in Portland, in Berkeley and Charlottesville, and decide if this is what they really want. If they don’t, it’s time for them to stop normalizing left-wing extremism. If they do, then they are to blame for the next Dallas or Charlottesville.
