COLLECTIVE MADNESS

“Soft despotism is a term coined by Alexis de Tocqueville describing the state into which a country overrun by "a network of small complicated rules" might degrade. Soft despotism is different from despotism (also called 'hard despotism') in the sense that it is not obvious to the people."

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu referred to the killers of the Israeli teenagers as ‘wild beasts’. In doing so he legitimized revenge against “the enemy". Netanyahu released an out of control IDF on a disproportionate and violent campaign of reprisal. Mohamed Abu Khdeir was killed a matter of hours after Netanyahu spoke.

UPDATE:
ISraeli police have arrested six Jewish suspects in the abduction and murder of a Palestinian teenager in East Jerusalem last week.
The prime minister, Binyamin Netanyahu, swiftly issued a statement denouncing Jewish extremism as "terrorism" after the arrests in the early hours.
"We do not distinguish terror from terror," Netanyahu said. The suspects, who included some minors, are being held at a facility of the Shin Bet security agency, and are being represented by lawyers hired by a rightwing legal action group.
The news of the arrests broke after Israeli media reported that police had made a breakthrough in the investigation and had concluded that the killing was "nationalist" in motivation rather than criminal.
"Apparently the people arrested in relation to the case belong to an extremist Jewish group," an official said, speaking on condition of anonymity

Thankfully, there are voices of sanity in Israel that will be heard to stop this cycle before it is totally out of control:
UK’s largest union backs boycott of Israel despite Labor’s calls to refrain
By JERRY LEWIS

The union, which claims a membership of around 1.3 million, overwhelmingly carried two pro-Palestinian resolutions.

LONDON – UNITE, Britain’s largest Trades Union – which last week confirmed it will be financially backing Labor Party leader Ed Miliband’s bid for the premiership next May – has defied his recent call to not support the Boycott, Sanctions, and Divestment campaign against Israel.

At their annual conference held in the south coast resort of Brighton last week, they voted to support two hostile- to-Israel resolutions, including one that actively supports the BDS policy promoted by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign.

The union, which claims a membership of around 1.3 million, overwhelmingly carried two pro-Palestinian resolutions, while clearly rejecting a pro-Israeli motion. The third motion, from the Bank of England branch, proposed greater co-operation between UNITE and the Histradut by way of constructive dialogue and support for the Israeli union movement.

The main pro-Palestinian resolution calls for raising awareness, building support, campaigning, and lobbying for “a free and independent Palestine” by highlighting the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank, and Israel itself.

A key section of the resolution instructs the union to work with others to develop campaigning and a “leverage strategy” around the BDS movement, including tackling “complicit companies” involved in the “occupation,” the “apartheid wall,” and “illegal settlements” “through workforce pressure, contracts, and pension funds,” while encouraging members to call on supermarkets and retailers “to stop using companies that export goods from illegal settlements.”

The union is also urged to raise the issue and table motions “in support of BDS” in other trades union forums around the world.

However, this flies in the face of Miliband who, after his pre Passover visit to Israel, told Labor Friends of Israel’s annual lunch not three weeks ago that, as far as he is concerned, nothing but nothing should get in the way of peace.

And it was in that context that he added, “We are clear that the threat of boycotts of Israel is the wrong response.

We do and we will resolutely oppose the isolation of Israel. And my party does so.”

While it was not the first time he indicated his view, he had not said so as explicitly as on this occasion.

However, complicating the issue was the decision announced at the beginning of last week that UNITE was to give the opposition Labor Party a further £12 million of much needed funding in preparation for the May 2015 general election.

The ruling Conservative Party leadership rubbed their hands with glee as they pointed to the prospect of the left-leaning union’s boss Len McClusky having more influence over Labor Party policy because of the sponsorship. This is something that Miliband has been trying to deny and break away from since he won the election to become party leader in September 2010.

A senior Labor Party source told The Jerusalem Post Saturday night that Miliband is the party leader and what he says is party policy and nothing that UNITE discusses at its party conference will change that simple fact.

A Labor Party representative added: “Ed Miliband made both his and the Labor Party’s position on this clear at a recent Labor Friends of Israel event.

That was his firm position then, and remains his firm position now.”

  1. Netanyahu’s jackassery is diverting attention from this ongoing disaster:

Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, leader of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), now called Islamic State (IS) has called on Muslims to obey him in a video after he was declared the Caliph of the Islamic state by the jihadi group.

The video which was reportedly filmed on Friday during a sermon at the al-Nouri Mosque in the northern city of Mosul surfaced on the internet on Saturday amidst speculations that the leader was killed or wounded in an air raid.

According to the BBC, Baghdadi welcomed the establishment of the Islamic State in his maiden video as the Caliph. The ISIS had announced the establishment of the state last Sunday. Subtitles in the video referred to Baghdadi as "Caliph Ibrahim", a name that he took up soon after he was declared the Caliph of the Islamic state by ISIS on the same day.

    1. Over 100 rockets have been launched against Israel in the last month.

Factories and apartments have been hit, Israelis have been kidnapped and murdered, stabbed and beaten up.

All with ZERO compassion, care or concern from this blog.

How dare Israel defend it's self from attack?

ISIS? Iran? Both are already attacking Israel, both are attacking each other.....

In syria? Hezbollah & Iran helped/supplied and directed with Syrian troops to kill 180,000 men women and children. Barrel bombs, starvation, artillery, mass refugee creation (7-8 MILLION) (more than all the palestinians in the world)

And of course Bibi responding to Iranian supplied rockets fired by Hamas makes Bibi the bad guy.

  2. Headlines in Irish Press

The United States has called for speedy investigation of an incident in which it said a US citizen of Palestinian descent appeared to have been badly beaten by Israeli paramilitary police.

A video clip circulated on the internet yesterday showed two Israeli Border police holding down and repeatedly pummelling a masked youth before carrying him away.

The family of Tariq Khdeir, 15, from Tampa, Florida, who was visiting family in east Jerusalem, say he was the target of the punches.

The footage is blurred and the victim cannot be identified as he appears also to be wearing a head covering.

A later part of the video shows Khdeir's face with a heavy black eye and swollen lip.

He is the cousin of Mohammed Abu Khudair, the youth Palestinians believe was abducted and murdered by far-right Israelis on Wednesday.

The Israeli Justice Ministry said in a statement that the police investigations department was looking into the incident.

US State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said the youth was visited by an official from the consulate in Jerusalem yesterday.

"We are profoundly troubled by reports that he was severely beaten while in police custody and strongly condemn any excessive use of force.

"We are calling for a speedy, transparent and credible investigation and full accountability for any excessive use of force," Ms Psaki said.

Israeli police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said Khdeir was one of six rioters caught and detained in the incident, three of whom were found to be carrying knives.

Separately, Israeli aircraft attacked ten sites used by Palestinian militants in Gaza this morning in response to persistent rocket strikes from the enclave, the Israeli military said.

Rocket launchers and a weapons manufacturing facility were among the targets of the air strikes, which followed the firing of a rocket, intercepted by Israel's Iron Dome system late yesterday, at the major southern city of Beersheba.

There were no immediate reports of casualties from the airstrikes.

The current flare up began in mid-June after Israel began a crackdown in the occupied West Bank on Hamas, whose power base is in Gaza, after blaming the Islamist group for the abduction of three Israeli teenagers.

  3. WASHINGTON – A top U.S. Defense Department analyst under President Bush says ISIS, the Islamic jihadists creating a Muslim caliphate in Iraq and beyond, could use the Mexican border to infiltrate America, and it could happen “sooner rather than later.”

At a time when thousands are crossing the U.S.-Mexico border illegally each day, the risks might never be higher, said Michael Maloof, now a senior staff writer for WND and expert on the Middle East.

He said there are risks to the economy and the nation’s health. And he warned the Iraq crisis easily could turn into a global issue.

In the Middle East, the radical jihadists in the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (Greater Syria), or ISIS, have been conquering northern portions of Iraq. They’ve been executing, crucifying and beheading as they burn through the fragile nation. They now threaten to overthrow the government of Iraq and its neighbors to build a caliphate to use as a launching pad for attacks on the U.S. and its allies.

At the same time, some 1,500 illegal aliens are crossing the Mexico-U.S. border each day and the Obama administration has done little, if anything, to stop the influx.

Putting the two together should raise alarms, he said.

  4. Jihadists who overran Mosul last month have demolished ancient shrines and mosques in and around the historic northern Iraqi city, residents and social media posts said on Saturday. At least four shrines to Sunni Arab or Sufi figures have been demolished, while six Shia mosques, or husseiniyahs, have also been destroyed, across militant-held parts of northern Nineveh province, of which Mosul is the capital.

Pictures posted on the Internet by the Islamic State (IS) — formerly known as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) — jihadist group showed the Sunni and Sufi shrines were demolished by bulldozers, while the Shia mosques and shrines were all destroyed by explosives. The photographs were part of an online statement titled “Demolishing shrines and idols in the state of Nineveh.”

Local residents confirmed that the buildings had been destroyed and that militants had occupied two cathedrals as well. “We feel very sad for the demolition of these shrines, which we inherited from our fathers and grandfathers,” said a 51-year-old

Meanwhile, an Iranian pilot has been killed while fighting in Iraq, state media reported Saturday, in what is thought to be Tehran’s first military casualty during battles against ISIS. Iran’s official IRNA news agency did not say whether the pilot died while flying sorties or fighting on the ground.

Separately the British government on Friday froze the assets of three British citizens reported to have been involved in terrorism-related activities in Syria. The treasury added Nasser Muthana and Reyaad Khan, both from Cardiff, and Ruhul Amin, from Aberdeen, to its list of people targeted for financial sanctions, according to the list posted on its website. Muthana, a 20-year old student, appeared in an online video last month urging Muslims to join the militant group the ISIS, his father told BBC.

    1. Palestinians burn Joseph's Tomb, Jews denied access
Just days after Palestinian police officers murdered a Jewish worshipper at Joseph's Tomb in Nablus, an Arab mob once again set fire to the burial place of the biblical patriarch on Tuesday.

It is still unclear whether Tuesday's riot was in celebration of the killing of 25-year-old Ben Yosef Livnat as he prayed at the shrine on Sunday, or in protest over ongoing Jewish visits to the holy site.

It is not the first time the Palestinians have burned and otherwise desecrated Joseph's Tomb, which in addition to housing the burial place of the biblical figure, is also the site of a small yeshiva.

The so-called "Oslo Accords" signed between Israel and the Palestinians in 1995 stipulated that Joseph's Tomb would remain an Israeli-controlled enclave open to Jewish worshippers and religious students.

But at the start of the Al Aqsa Intifada in 2000, a Palestinian mob backed by Palestinian Authority police officers assaulted Joseph's Tomb, killing an Israeli soldier in the process. Israel subsequently surrendered control of the site on the condition that the Palestinian Authority would protect and maintain it.

Instead, the Palestinians immediately destroyed the domed tomb and set fire to the yeshiva. Numerous times over the past few years, visiting Jews have reported signs of fires, swastikas and other graffiti and desecration of both the tomb and Jewish prayer books.

The repeated assaults on Joseph's Tomb have not deterred some Jews from visiting the site on a regular basis. But their ability to do so may become increasingly difficult.

On Wednesday, the Israeli army arrested a group of 30 Orthodox Jews determined to pray at Joseph's Tomb. Army officials said they can not guarantee the safety of Jews who enter the site.

Tomb of Joseph Desecrated by Palestinian Vandals

Palestinian vandals have defaced Joseph’s Tomb in yet another instance of Palestinians attacking Jewish holy sites. The Palestinian hooligans destroyed furniture, desecrated holy Jewish books, sprayed anti-semitic graffiti throughout the tomb’s grounds. There was also evidence that they had attempted to destroy Joseph’s Tomb by fire.

According to Samaria Council Chairman Gershon Mesika, “Only barbarians are capable of doing terrible things like this, destroying a holy place. The State of Israel must reclaim the Tomb of Yosef, as described in the Oslo Accords. We must return with strength and faith and reestablish our presence, and that yeshiva, at the Tomb.” Deputy Council Director Yossi Dagan furthermore declared, “The Palestinian terrorist police are responsible for the site when IDF soldiers are not present. They have proven a long time ago that they have lost all semblance of humanity. These are the terrorists in uniforms who murdered Yosef Ben Livnat h”yd, and now they dump their waste and try to burn down the Tomb.”

    2. Arabs (Again) Torch Joseph’s Tomb

Once again the Arabs have torched Joseph's Tomb, even though Joseph is considered a prophet in Islam.
      By: Lori Lowenthal Marcus
      Published: July 6th, 2014

Joseph’s Tomb, which is located in Nablus, a Palestinian Arab-controlled town, was torched over Shabbat. The Hebrew name of the town is Shechem. According to the Book of Joshua, 24:32, “The bones of Joseph which the children of Israel brought up from Egypt were buried in Shechem in the portion of the field that had been purchased by Jacob.”

This is only the latest torching of Joseph’s Tomb by Arabs, even though Joseph is a prophet, according to Islam.

After the 1967 Six Day War, Israel regained access to the site of the Tomb, and in the 1980′s a Jewish seminary was built there. A small military outpost was also placed at the site, in order to protect the Jewish students. But following the Oslo Accords, the surrounding area was handed over to the Palestinian Arabs, while Israel retained authority over Joseph’s Tomb.

When fighting broke out between Israelis and Arabs in the area in October, 2000, six Arabs and one Jew were killed in a battle which took place at the Tomb. Israel then agreed to withdraw from the area and handed over control to the Palestinian Arabs who were expected to guard it. Instead, when the hand-off took place, on October 7, the Arab police watched as their people destroyed the Tomb. They rioters burned books, shtenders and other religious paraphernalia, and defiled the Tomb.

In 2011, a nephew of Israeli Knesset member and culture and sports minister Limor Livnat, Ben-Joseph Livnat, was murdered by Palestinian security forces while visiting Joseph’s Tomb. Four other Israelis were wounded. Palestinian Arabs set Joseph’s Tomb on fire, and they also attacked the funeral procession of Ben Joseph Livnat with rocks.

Joseph’s Tomb has been attacked by Arabs several more times since that time, including the latest arson over Shabbat.

  5. In the interest of justice, the murder of the Palestinian youth is under investigation. Whatever the evidence shows, the Jews will still be guilty - nothing new about that. Israel will continue being the only functional government in the region. Unless the US betrays the Kurds again, a functional Iraqi Kurdistan may be added.

    1. unlike any other nation in the area, the guilt will be arrested, tried and if convicted, sentenced.

If it were Jews that did the murder? They will not go free, as Jews do not wish to live with savages, even jewish ones.

Now if it was another arab honor killing as I am reading in the Israeli press? No one wants to admit that there are gay murders just as there are murders of arab daughters for "honor"

The riots are NOT spontaneous. The flags of ISIS that some of the rioters had did not appear by magic, the hundreds of firebombs, the dozens of "children" sent out into the streets with slingshots did not magically appear spontaneously.

This is a riot waiting for an excuse.
