COLLECTIVE MADNESS

“Soft despotism is a term coined by Alexis de Tocqueville describing the state into which a country overrun by "a network of small complicated rules" might degrade. Soft despotism is different from despotism (also called 'hard despotism') in the sense that it is not obvious to the people."

A Real Team Player and Quite the AOL Fan

Mark Foley's sexuality was never much of a secret to those who served with him in the House.

The New York Times and every major newspaper in Florida had been writing articles on the congressman's agonizingly inept attempts to remain closeted for years. Indeed, it was the embarrassing manner in which he has attempted to cloak his sexuality that prevented Foley from securing his party's nomination for the U.S. Senate in 2004 and again this year.

So says The Nation. this will be big trouble for a Party already in deep doodoo.

  1. The O'Reilly Factor has set the tone. Bill is stuck 'tween that rock and a hard place.
Always sensitive to charges of bias, Bill will HAVE to carry the water, or be seen as a partisan, which he denies he is.

If he does not cover Foley extensivly, the other MSM Newsmakers will report his dropping the ball.

The whole Foley Affair will be disheartening to the faithful, that's for sure, at least.

  2. The Democrats have figured the angle on this. They stay awaay from the homosexuality end of it. They cannot go there and will try make it into a peodphile case, which is slightly preposterous. No man can come onto a sixteen year old boy unless he is encouraged to do so. Sixteen year olds, if they are heterosexual, will become very indignant and stop any solicitation dead in its tracks. The kid is probably gay or dubious about his sexuality and now embarrassed.

  3. While the Dems may skip over pedophilia to dwell on the Political, Big Bill, whose made pedophilia his cause celeb will have to follow that storyline.

Delivering it right into the "Heartland".
He will not be able to duck it, IMO.

You are exactly on target my friend. On NPR this morning they covered this story without once mentioning 'sexual orientation' or gender of either party. They can't mention 'gay' because that is one of their protected classes. They have to work the pedophile aspect and hope no-one else mentions the gender confusion of Rep. Foley.
