COLLECTIVE MADNESS

“Soft despotism is a term coined by Alexis de Tocqueville describing the state into which a country overrun by "a network of small complicated rules" might degrade. Soft despotism is different from despotism (also called 'hard despotism') in the sense that it is not obvious to the people."

The Dude Abides

I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in.

After watching The Big Lebowski last night, I have to admit that I am a huge fan of the Coen brothers especially Fargo, The Big Lebowski and Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?

I guess I like the surreal, the psychedelic, the edgy aspects of the Coens' work. Maybe that's why I keep dropping in at the EB, it can be a surreal experience worthy of a Joel and Ethan Coen movie. It's powerful stuff, best viewed through a window-pane and in small doses.

  1. Hey!!!

    What happened??

Deuce, where did that video that you just posted go?

In any event, it was one of the most extraordinary things that I have ever seen.

    What a find!

    Absolutely brilliant!!!

On more than one level :-)))

  3. But, but, sputter, sputter.

Dude!!! With all due respect to your Big Lebowski (and I take it on faith that you have one)...

Oh! I get it. Don't worry, I am so over her.

  5. Sorry, Whit.

But "two faced chink" was your term.

I made a cheap joke with it and I regret it.

However, the underlying sentiment I do not withdraw.

Trish made a comment about the subject earlier on another thread with which I completely agree.

  6. The "chink" is the man with many faces on the video from the next post.

Hey Deuce, you're a Safari man. Can you see any text below the you tube video and above the "The Dude Abides."

I see it with Firefox but with Safari, I see only the YouTube and "The Dude..."

I fully realize the "chink" comment was from the next vid. But within this thread you introduced the term. I never mentioned term at all.

You took offence, I presume, at my implied reference to what's-her-name, being a "two-faced chink."

If I am wrong about this please enlighten me. If I miscontrued your comment about "the direction this is going" then please enlighten me on this, also.
