COLLECTIVE MADNESS

“Soft despotism is a term coined by Alexis de Tocqueville describing the state into which a country overrun by "a network of small complicated rules" might degrade. Soft despotism is different from despotism (also called 'hard despotism') in the sense that it is not obvious to the people."

Massachusetts, Rise Up and Vote the Bastards Out!

By Curt Schilling

And for the life of me I can’t figure out why no one has repeated it.

Scott Brown addressing voters said

“Your tax dollars should go towards the purchase of weapons to stop these terrorists from killing American Citizens, not to pay lawyers to defend them”

Bravo Scott.

  1. Is that last thread over? Am I dead?

Hang on a minute; let me count my appendages. Whew. Only flesh wounds. Nothing "Critical," it seems.

Damn, Deuce. Like the Brits said, "Took your time, didn't you?"

    Stop for lunch?

Okay, I'm taking my "barely surviving" ass to bed. Find another "Ace Commentor" to hang out in the Gale.

    Oh yeah, Go Brown.

I'm making if 50/50. It Is Massachusetts.

  2. Following a series of recent attack ads, Brown urged Obama to bring civility to the campaign.

Said Brown, “How quickly the politics of hope have been replaced with the politics of desperation.”

He added, “It’s us against the machine.”

  3. That quote alone would be enough for me. For years I worked for Raytheon. I know the people of Massachusetts are not the liberal caricature portrayed by the left and the right.

The people of Mass are Yankees, they are patriotic and believe in the US Constitution. They are free thinking and mostly libertarian. They reject the moralizing of the Republicans and will reject the Democratic left wing putsch being conducted by Obama.

To our friends in Mass, get out and vote "like a bastard."

  6. The perfect storm, or why Brown may win by a landslide

"More and More States on Budget Brink"

"Across the nation, state tax collections in the first three quarters of 2009 posted their steepest decline in at least 46 years..."

"The state has already said it will increase tuition by a third in the University of California system..."

"Arizona put its state office buildings on sale this week in a bid to raise $700 million..."

"Alaska, Nevada, New Jersey and New York face gaps of at least 30% of their planned general fund spending by the end of this fiscal year. A dozen more states face a fiscal 2010 budget gap of between 20% and 29%...."

"So far, the worst cuts have been avoided with the help of billions of dollars of federal stimulus money -- including $135 billion for education and Medicaid..."

"But the flow of those funds will start to slow down in the second half of 2010 and will stop altogether at year-end, unless Congress appropriates more money for state assistance..."

Succinctly, the public is terrified by a system in the grip of enthropy.

The public needs another pretty face to make everything "all better", with no sacrifice. The DR and Rufus free ride syndrome. Medicaid - Medicsmade...It's for the poor and the children; therefore, cost and the Republic be damned (Besides, ALL doctors are greedy bastards, living in houses bigger than mine.)

"You can have your cake and eat it too". That did not work out too well for poor Louis and Marie. It will not work out now. Once you flush the toilet, there's no turning back. Buckle your seatbelt, it's going to be a bumpy ride.

  7. Did anyone read the article in the NY Times about the POTUS preaching politics in a tax-exempt black church in his slightly more negro dialect?

    Missed it did you?

  8. Phone record searches covered by exigent letters ended in November 2006 as the Justice Department inspector general began investigating.

Among those whose phone records were searched improperly were journalists for The Washington Post and the New York Times, according to interviews with government officials.

The searches became public when Mueller, the FBI director, contacted top editors at the two newspapers in August 2008 and apologized for the breach of reporters' phone records. The reporters were Ellen Nakashima of The Post, who had been based in Jakarta, Indonesia, and Raymond Bonner and Jane Perlez of the Times, who had also been working in Jakarta.

  10. Whit said...

"I don't see a damn thing wrong with the statement and Allen isn't advocating eugenics."

    Thanks!

And bingo! When you are getting your rearend waxed by the undertaker, you grasp at any straw at hand.

I feel very positive about my relationship with Rufus - almost an Imago moment (sigh). Personally, I find nothing wrong with fox hunting, when they become pests :)

Really Whit, if it weren't for the fact that my country is going to Hell, none of this would affect me at all.

When things get really, really tough, watch out for the religious fanatics and the communists. Truth be known, there is little difference between the two: both rely upon fairy tales and the public’s gullibility. There is not a great gap between Jim Jones and Joe Stalin – both did what it took to pay the bills.

  11. President Obama’s ‘rescue’

    By Boston Herald Editorial Staff

    Monday, January 18, 2010 -

President Obama got one thing spot on yesterday during his attempt to rescue the flagging Senate campaign of Democrat Martha Coakley.

“We’re in tough times right now,” the president said. “So people are frustrated and they’re angry, and I understand that.”

Well understanding is one thing, and finding solutions is quite another. And clearly here the “solution” to that anger and frustration isn’t the kind of class warfare that Obama engaged in yesterday.

He may have come to town to fight for his agenda, but there is a growing body of evidence that his agenda - on health care, on energy, even on financial regulatory reform (which somehow the president equates with yet another tax on the banks that actually repaid their government loans) - isn’t what the people of Massachusetts are looking for right now.

They know that a national health-care bill will take dollars right out of our own state’s health care industry and stands a good chance of disrupting medical services. And where would a carbon tax fall hardest? How about on those who are struggling to pay their heating bills now.

The president did, however, pose exactly the right question to voters yesterday during his speech at Northeastern:

“When the chips are down, when the tough votes come . . . who is going to be on your side?” he asked.

Well, likely not the Democratic nominee who now owes the White House one huge political favor.

  12. The numbers show males and independents overwhelmingly breaking for Brown, who has married his GQ looks with a populist tone in a pick-up truck on the campaign trail.

I've always said the pickup truck was man's greatest invention.

    Actually, Ed Abbey said that.

“A patriot must always be ready to defend his country against his government.”
    Ed Abbey

“Society is like a stew. If you don't stir it up every once in a while then a layer of scum floats to the top.” Ed Abbey

And this is a tough one--

“May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds.”

    Ed Abbey

  16. To the Republican (?) citizens of Mass, in the famous words of Al Capone (a Chicago celebrity if ever there were): "Vote early, vote often".

You may be certain the Dems will. With them, even the long dead get no exemption.

  17. I do that, too.

Someone came up with a good word for it: Poutrage.

  19. DR,

You could not find the quotes you sought throughout the long day because G-d made Jewish lawyers :)

The reason G-d made Jewish lawyers was because of Foxman et al.

By tomorrow evening, the Democrat may need good Jewish lawyers.

And so is the Department of National Intelligence!
