COLLECTIVE MADNESS

“Soft despotism is a term coined by Alexis de Tocqueville describing the state into which a country overrun by "a network of small complicated rules" might degrade. Soft despotism is different from despotism (also called 'hard despotism') in the sense that it is not obvious to the people."

The US Public is waking up to the Israeli-Saudi Axis of Con

Iran: It's Not About Nuclear Weapons

It's actually about Israel and Saudi Arabia.
Sheldon Richman | November 28, 2013

You’re thinking: Of course it’s about nuclear weapons. Everyone says so.
Well, not everyone does. But it isn’t a numbers game. As William O. Beeman points out in the Huffington Post,
There is a strange irony in President Obama’s announcement of the temporary agreement. He mentioned the term “nuclear weapon” multiple times in his announcement, implying that Iran was on a path to develop such a weapon. One wonders if he actually believes this or if his repeated implied accusation was a rhetorical device designed to placate his hard-line critics.
The president must know by this time that there is no evidence that Iran has or ever had a nuclear weapons program. Every relevant intelligence agency in the world has verified this fact for more than a decade. Two U.S. National Intelligence Estimates that were made public in 2007 and 2011 underscored this. The International Atomic Energy Agency has also consistently asserted that Iran has not diverted any nuclear material for any military purpose.
Even Israeli intelligence analysts agree that Iran is “not a danger” to Israel.
Ironically, when critics of the interim agreement say Iran gave up little, they are right. “By yielding to the P5+1 demands, in essence Iran has allowed itself to be persuaded to stop temporarily doing what it never intended to do — make a nuclear weapon,” Beeman writes. “The United States and its allies … made the improbable leap that having enriched uranium would immediately lead to a nuclear weapon. This is an immense mistake — so large that one must suspect that it is essentially hyped for public consumption.”
In return for agreeing to stop doing what it had no intention of doing, Iran will get the slightest relief from the economic sanctions that inflict so much suffering on the people.
There’s another irony. The reactionaries on all sides – including in the U.S. Congress – oppose rapprochement between Iran and the United States for some of the same reasons.
Look at the leading opponents of the agreement: Israel and Saudi Arabia. They are among the U.S. government’s closest allies in the Middle East. For overlapping reasons, both would hate to see the 34-year-old cold war between the United States and Iran come to an end.
Saudi Arabia, which is well-equipped militarily by the United States, is an Arab Sunni Muslim kingdom. Iran is the large, influential Persian state dominated by the other side in the Islamic schism: Shiism. (What Iran calls the Persian Gulf, Arabs call the Arabian Gulf.) Iran was a U.S. client-state until 1979, when the Islamic Revolution overthrew the repressive shah, whom the U.S. government had restored to power after ousting a democratic regime in 1953. Saudi Arabia, which  enjoys protection under America’s nuclear umbrella, does not want to see Iran back in the good graces of the United States, since it would diminish its prominence in the Middle East.
Israel, the world’s largest recipient of U.S. military armaments, a nuclear power, and thus the most potent country in the region, has used its might to subjugate the Palestinians, systematically steal their land, and intimidate its neighbors, for example, by periodically invading Lebanon. Its leadership needs to manufacture enemies to distract the world from its inhumane policies, which the U.S. government, pushed by Israel’s lobby, enables. Thus the Iranians, who have made repeated peace overtures, are portrayed as an “existential threat,” which is absurd: Even if one were to make all the fantastic assumptions required to see Iran with a nuclear weapon, what good would it be against Israel, which has hundreds of nukes, some of them on invulnerable submarines?
Yoel Guzansky, a former member of Israel’s National Security Council, revealed much when he condemned the interim agreement as giving “Iran … a signature that it’s a legitimate country.” How hypocritical.
The Iranian people, which includes a large, educated middle class, would welcome friendship with America. Both they and the American people would prosper from trade, tourism, and other personal contact.
As a bonus, such friendship would inevitably weaken Iran’s theocracy – which is why the hardliners on all sides are determined to prevent it.

I could go on, but it's waste of time.

Deuce you live in an alternative universe.

The Mullahs of Iran, and it's Revolutionary Guards military forces (including Hezbollah and Hamas), are in fact murdering civilians every day. In Iran, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, across the middle east and the Americas, these folks are not a force for good.

There is no trying to convince you otherwise.

He is not being held by the Iranian government, a least there is no evidence of that in the public realm.

    7. Cleveland — Prosecutors said yesterday they may seek the death penalty against Ariel Castro, the man accused of imprisoning three women at his home for a decade, as police charged that he impregnated one of his captives at least five times and then starved her and punched her in the belly until she miscarried.

The horrific allegations were contained in a police report that also said one of the women, Amanda Berry, was forced to give birth in a plastic kiddie pool.

Cuyahoga County prosecutor Timothy McGinty said his office will decide whether to bring aggravated murder charges punishable by death in connection with the pregnancies that were terminated by force.

“Capital punishment must be reserved for those crimes that are truly the worst examples of human conduct,” he said. “The reality is we still have brutal criminals in our midst who have no respect for the rule of law or human life.”

Castro, a 52-year-old former school bus driver, is being held on $8 million bail under a suicide watch in jail, where he is charged with rape and kidnapping.

What did the Federal government know about Ariel Castro and "When Did They Know It"?

Kaczynski sent a letter to The New York Times on April 24, 1995 and promised "to desist from terrorism" if the Times or the Washington Post published his manifesto, Industrial Society and Its Future (also called the "Unabomber Manifesto"), in which he argued that his bombings were extreme but necessary to attract attention to the erosion of human freedom necessitated by modern technologies requiring large-scale organization.

The Unabomber was the target of one of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's costliest investigations.

Seventeen years it took the Federals to find Ted Kaczynski and he was in the United States, the whole time.
Assuredly the FBI is better at criminal investigations than the Iranian equivalent.

      Distortion and lies.

What does Iran's nuclear program have to do with the price of tea in China? Nothing

Your comment about Israel having a nuke program? So what? If they have one, they have never used it, nor threatened anyone with it.

The neocons were smart enough to "throw a bone" to the working class from time to time. A Medicare Part D, here, a minimum wage increase, there, etc. The tea party stopped all that in the republican party. As a result, you ended up with a second Obama term. If the republicans can't beat back some of the tea party craziness, you could see another Democrat in the White House, after Obama. And, it's possible, although not likely, that it could be a "social justice liberal" democrat.

The initiative, which would require a $15 minimum wage and a handful of paid sick days for about 6,500 workers, was poised to pass by 77 votes out of 6,001 counted. The election results were scheduled to be certified Tuesday afternoon.

      . . .

The proposition is also facing a court challenge, led by Alaska Airlines' owner, Alaska Air Group Inc. The airline is challenging whether an initiative can give the city authority over the airport, which is operated by the Port of Seattle.

    Home Demolitions: By the Numbers

Since 1967, Israel has destroyed approximately 27,000 Palestinian structures in the occupied territories (the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Gaza Strip), including more than 24,000 homes, according to ICAHD.
Since the renewal of negotiations in August 2013, Israel has destroyed approximately 25 Palestinian homes, in addition to dozens of other structures, leaving approximately 200 people homeless.

According to the UN, between January and September 2013, 862 Palestinians were displaced by Israeli demolitions, compared to 886 (including 468 children) in all of 2012.

In 2012, a total of 600 Palestinian structures were demolished by Israel in the occupied territories, including at least 189 homes, according to ICAHD. This figure doesn’t include “self-demolitions” whereby Palestinians destroy their own homes rather than have Israel do it and charge them an additional fine.

One Bedouin village, Al-Araqib, in the Negev desert in the south of Israel, has been destroyed more than 50 times by Israel since July 2010.

Between 2005 and 2012, Israel demolished approximately 1500 Palestinian homes due to owners lacking hard-to-obtain construction permits.

Between 1993 and 2000, when the Oslo Accords were being negotiated between Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization, Israel destroyed almost 1700 Palestinian homes in the occupied territories.

Immediately following Israel’s occupation of the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Gaza in 1967, approximately 6000 Palestinian homes were demolished, including four entire villages in the Latrun area, along with dozens of homes in the Mughrabi Quarter of Jerusalem’s Old City, which were destroyed to make way for a plaza for the Western Wall. In 1971, between 2000 and 6000 Palestinian homes were destroyed in Gaza in an effort to pacify the newly occupied territory.

"No, we all did not FEEL betrayed.

    What a crock of shit."

YOU ARE WRONG RAT!! I know because I am a potato; salt of the earth.

I think it is interesting that there is much consternation in the Marine claims followed by much glee when those claims are contradicted. Part of it is that many of you place a lot of credence on the fact that one served in the military and having served in the USMC is, like, really, cool and prestigious. Somehow have been Military gives ones views great significance. Unfortunately you don't convey such importance to taters that can make a post.

    Sad!

Hanging out in places like this you do get to know the people. Rat, you might post under many different names but we all know it is you. Heck, at one point you were running a horse publication. Trish was a Generals wife (though much more than a significant other), Bob a farmer who likes literature, Rufus an insurance guy, T a computer tech (sort of), WiO a importer/exporter kinda guy (Candy according to Rat), Allen a commercial real estate man, Quirk, I'm guessing (as I am, in truth, with all the others) a retired Auto exec (marketing I would think). BUT, as I tell my kids you never know who is on the other end of the keyboard. Being a potato has helped shield me from potential harm (Habu and Matsuelah made direct threats) but some of you have an inkling of who I am, my character anyway. There is a reality to the folk here.

In the end, if a Marine (1 of 9 even) says "Israel is great and should occupy all of Eretz Israel" it does not differ from a Candyman and Farmer Fudd saying the same thing, or a disguised Rat railing "NOT"! But it does add a shade or grey to the character we experience regularly putting the bytes on my screen.

    5. No, Potato Head, the "Marine" was telling us the "we", meaning he and Irael would destroy civilization, with its nuclar arsenal.

Then a quick search of a term used by another Israeli contributor, Methuselah was researched.
That term being the Samson Option.
This cursory investigation showed that here was such an "Option" and that the Israel HAD IN FACT utilized it in the past.

That episode leading to Jonathon Pollard's life term in Federal prison.

Neal was arrested Nov. 23 on a sexual assault charge the day after a 19-year-old woman said she was raped during a traffic stop. Neal was freed on bond following that charge. Online jail records don't list an attorney for Neal, who's been on paid administrative leave since the initial charge was filed.

  23. So, how’s it going? ... Has the curve been bent?

The answer, amazingly, is yes. In fact, the slowdown in health costs has been dramatic .... Since 2010, when the act was passed, real health spending per capita ... has risen less than a third as rapidly as its long-term average. Real spending per Medicare recipient hasn’t risen at all; real spending per Medicaid beneficiary has actually fallen slightly.

What could account for this good news? One obvious answer is the still-depressed economy, which might be causing people to forgo expensive medical care. But this explanation turns out to be problematic in multiple ways. ...

A better story focuses on what appears to be a decline in ... expensive new blockbuster drugs, even as existing drugs go off-patent and can be replaced with cheaper generic brands. ... But since drugs are only about 10 percent of health spending, it can only explain so much.

So what aspects of Obamacare might be causing health costs to slow? One clear answer is the act’s reduction in Medicare “overpayments”... A less certain but likely source of savings involves changes in the way Medicare pays for services. The program now penalizes hospitals if many of their patients end up being readmitted soon after being released — an indicator of poor care — and readmission rates have, in fact, fallen substantially. Medicare is also encouraging ... “accountable care,” in which health organizations get rewarded for overall success in improving care while controlling costs.

Furthermore, there’s evidence that Medicare savings “spill over” to the rest of the health care system...

    And the biggest savings may be . . . . . .

    unnoticed gains

As with most things, Ash, you lack nuance. What harm did T actually do? Despite her many rationalizations, I thought her act was childish; however, in the end it ended up being more annoying than harmful. Allen is a different cat.

I have no opinion on the military aspects discussed here over the past few days. I think you are the one lacking perception of nuance here Quirk. While you may believe I only show up occasionally I have been reading the comments for years, regularly. Of late I comment less and read it much less carefully due to the flood of rat shit and other, ummm, less than concise posts. This place has had a variety of shit like that over the years. The boobie and dougshit show was another instance of it. When boob degenerates into his diatribes alone is another. WiO's got a penchant for dropping piles of crap. I try to skim most everything but that stuff is more scroll. I try to read your posts though but I'm a busy guys these days so trying to joust with all on a regular basis is tough.

But back to the topic at hand. I'm trying for some nuance (and my lack of ability to express may hamper that but...). On the one hand we are all 'made up characters' adjusting the front we present here. Sometimes arguing as the devils advocate other times honestly all with 'nom de guerre's'. One does form opinions of 'who' the various posters are, their real 'psyches' if you will.

Yet we all are creatures of our imagination here. T led folk to believe she was gay ect. for quite a long time. Then she did an about face an wasn't. Allen has said a lot of stuff but, somehow, saying one was a marine when one wasn't is way worse then saying, I dunno, one is gay. I don't place particular faith in someone's integrity because they are ex-mil (or present mil) but, it appears, many do.

So, my comments of late are two pronged. 1.) Many folk put military folk up on a pedestal - it is rampant in the US and it is the epitome of political correctness - "thank you for your service" all those military folk at sporting events, fly-overs - bah! and 2.)We form 'friendships' as it were here, 'acquaintanceships' more like and speaking honestly does have some import but more import if you claim military heritage it seems.

I know, you are hungover Quirk and nuance is too subtle for an addled brain. Go shopping! Watch some football. Enjoy the holiday!

Brevity is the soul of wit.

In this case, witless. WiO hurts you feelings about a job so like a lot of the nitwits around here you strike out in an entirely unrelated direction, attacking a symbol many Americans take pride in, the flag given to them by their country in remembrance of the service to that country by a loved one.

I was given one for my dad's service and frankly didn't check for a label saying where it was made. You said you were a veteran. I doubt you will make a notation in you will telling your family to check where it is made before accepting it.

As I said, Ash, you lack nuance.

As I pointed out above, the military discussion between Rufus and Allen meant very little to me. It was merely the culmination of a number of issues, not merely differences of opinion, that pointed out what a prick Allen is.

Military. Non-military. It doesn't matter to me. While I appreciate the service the military provides especially in times of war, I offer the ex-military no deference when it comes to matters of opinion or fact, whether military related or not. Just as I don't give a shit about being called a misogynist, racist, anti-Semite, homophobe, or non-veteran by some asshole. All I demand is a legitimate reason for it if it's meant as a slur, not some PC bullshit dreamt up by some pissant.

Rufus pointed out that he did take Allen comment as an insult and that was the precipitating event that led to their little tussle; however, he also pointed out that it wasn't the main reason he called the man out but rather the last in a long line of things. What can't you get about that?

As to harm, T, put on here little charade but what harm did it actually do to anyone here? What harm did she try to do to anyone using the false persona as a tool?

As I mentioned, I have seen instances where Allen has gone behind people's back trying to discredit them on other blogs. The harm he has done? Trying to discredit someone without having the balls to say it to their face. I have had a number of disagreements with Allen, the Liberty being one of them; but I am not down on him because of our differences of opinion. I am down on him because he is a self-declared Israeli-firster. That may not mean much to some sailor from Canada but it appears to mean something to the regulars on this blog.

As for nuance, you initially commented on the words Allen spoke but you missed the important part. It wasn't so much the words, it was the use of personal pronouns. It wasn't 'Israel can do this..', it was 'we can do this...'. It wasn't 'they will do this to you...' but 'we will do this to you...'.

When questioned, he stated that Israel is 'family' and that 'family' will always come first.

Pretty clear, to anyone who can read, yet, you seem to have missed it.

Go back and have some more milk and cookies, son.

    8. I got that is what allen said and I tried to go see it in context but the buggy google wouldn't allow it. It's too bad because the entertainment factor may have been greater. I even probed allen to get him to clarify and re-iterate what he wrote at a second time. He essentially confirmed it and then played the victim card. funny guy! I've seen allen melt down a few times here and it is entertaining. Sometimes he can make some sense and he does seem educated. I've wondered if he might not be a rabbi. I am unaware of his actions on other blogs. I do find he is a blowhard who flips out when he gets caught up in his own web of illogic. You, old man, seem to have a chip on your shoulder though - ole grumpy guts. Didn't you, in all honesty, inquire about T's family back in the Phillipines as the Typhoon struck? Do you care whether they really exist or not? Given past behavior they are just part of the story too. No harm, no foul eh?

      No.

Basically, I accept what people say here about themselves (even when some obviously say too much) up to the point where the story obviously becomes ridiculous or they prove themselves to be lying. I don't see the point of the lying. The posts I have seen here recently about some person who called himself Habu seemed rather bizarre,

I may be cynical but evidently I haven't reached your level, yet.

    10. Were you around as T spun her lesbian tale? Pretty convincing. Then she came clean and became a housewife with rug rats who still has a penchant for that Lebanese gal. Your guess is as good as mine as to the veracity of the current tale.

Habu, he was a piece of work. Wrote well, opinionated as all get out (hard core conservative war monger type who was banker and CIA agent all in one). More bombastic and prolific then allen.

I too tend to take people at their word. allen a marine, ok, oops, allen not a marine outted by rufus - cool and entertaining. The important parts, though, are the thoughts expressed and seeing him go off the rails threatening 'spit in Obama's face' and 'unleashing nukes' was pretty wild. Israel against the world...

  33. Dutch digital activist discusses Anonymous in depth Special
    By Justin King

    As you just said:
you can't tell Anonymous what to do.
And that is really the only good answer.

But I would like to add to that:
there are many causes to pick in many arenas against many obscure social system qualities,
and I suggest picking the cause that suits you and your capabilities best.

There is no such thing as a specific focus.
Focus carries the suggestion of a frontal attack strategy (strength against strength), but there are also different strategies, like a flanking attack (strength against weakness), and guerilla attack ("(re)group", "focus", hit, run, disperse... And again...)

. A guerilla attack forces your opponent to disperse its power over a larger battleground.

Learn how this works and apply it with non-violent means.
All of these strategies are effective in certain arenas against certain players, depending on the battleground,
the agenda, the players, and the book of rules.

For example, The NSA launched a media frontal attack (Anonymous dismantled) which was actually a small results guerilla attack (some hacktivism dismantled).
This is when you know that Anonymous is winning.

You only need to continue and keep your stamina.

They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”

  34. U.S. General Apologizes After Afghan Drone Strike
    By ROD NORDLAND
    Published: November 29, 2013

KABUL, Afghanistan — The American military commander called President Hamid Karzai to apologize for a drone strike in southern Helmand Province, which the military conceded had killed and wounded civilians, a coalition official said on Friday.

Mr. Karzai had lashed out at his American allies after the Thursday attack, which came at a delicate moment when talks between Mr. Karzai and the United States over a long-term security agreement have reached an impasse. The Americans have told Mr. Karzai that unless he signs the agreement promptly, they will begin planning for a total withdrawal of American and NATO forces after the end of next year.

Gen. Joseph F. Dunford Jr., the American and NATO commander in Afghanistan, made a late-night phone call to President Karzai on Thursday after the president’s criticism became public. “He talked to President Karzai directly, expressed deep regrets for the incident and any civilian casualties, and promised to convene an immediate joint investigation to determine all the facts of what happened,” a coalition spokesman said, speaking on the condition of anonymity in line with official policy.

Mr. Karzai vowed this week, at the conclusion of a loya jirga, or grand council, that he would cancel the security agreement completely if there was even one more raid that killed civilians.

On Thursday, he said that in effect that moment had come. “For as long as such arbitrary acts and oppression of foreign forces continue, the security agreement with the United States will not be signed,” he said.

  37. WiO,

    WiO,
My exchange with Rufus Stolen Valor had the purposes of proving him a liar and a welfare recipient through VA. I have known about the welfare angle for a long time and decided this was the time to expose him. It took two days, but it was worth it.

Each and every month, Rufus Stolen Valor receives from Uncle Sam a check for doing two things: a) not being damaged in support of the United States and b) failing to make a living. You see, many years ago Congress authorized VA to become a covert dispenser of welfare. Indeed, the majority of folk using the VA system and getting small pensions have no more right to them than some gal in Philly with a batch of kids and high blood pressure from weighing 400 lbs. or a wino or drug abuser.

So, the next time the guy gives you grief about your views on the Obama system or anything else having to do with the economy, remind him that he is an old man who made bad life’s choices and is on the government dole rather than the street.

As for as the Marine Corps, I really do not care that some E-4 doubts it. For my service I receive compensation, not a pension. I get it and every single health care service possible because I was damaged in support of the US and am rewarded by a grateful nation. I cry when I leave my government subsidized home all the way to the bank in my VA funded vehicle. And I cried a river when each of my two children received almost $40,000 to go to school under Chapter 35. And I moan every time I use an AAFES facility wherever I happen to be and leave with a full tank of government subsidized gas.

But my friend, I earned it. 93% of my buddies earned only a headstone.

Truth be told, desert rat is of the same stripe.

The only thing that troubled me came at the end of the exchange. Earlier the guy admitted having STDs. Then, he asks me to say in Vietnamese, “come here little girl”. That was Freudian and nauseating.

Since this is my last outing in Little Berlin, feel free to contact me via my personal email.
