COLLECTIVE MADNESS

“Soft despotism is a term coined by Alexis de Tocqueville describing the state into which a country overrun by "a network of small complicated rules" might degrade. Soft despotism is different from despotism (also called 'hard despotism') in the sense that it is not obvious to the people."

IRS loses the hard drives (through a crash of course) of former executive Lois Lerner, but read on:

After the amended Federal Rules of Civil Procedures were passed in December of 2006, all emails, communications, files, directives and requests that may be relevant to a current or future litigation cannot simply be deleted or overwritten. The data must be produced and thus it must be archived, because that’s the law. It’s the law
IRS Says Official's Emails Were Lost in Computer Crash
Agency Trying to Reconstruct Correspondence Sought in Congressional Probe

WASHINGTON—The Internal Revenue Service said a former official's 2011 computer crash significantly hampered its efforts to dig up correspondence requested as part of a congressional review of the agency's treatment of conservative groups.
The IRS said it is providing more emails to lawmakers and is doing its best to reconstruct correspondence from the former executive, Lois Lerner, who retired as the controversy unfolded last year. Its effort, which has included searching email of other senders and recipients, resulted in an additional 24,000 emails that are being provided to lawmakers, the agency said in a summary of its actions.
House Republicans investigating the IRS controversy reacted unhappily to the news of Ms. Lerner's computer crash.
"The fact that I am just learning about this, over a year into the investigation, is completely unacceptable and now calls into question the credibility of the IRS's response to congressional inquiries," House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R., Mich.) said. "There needs to be an immediate investigation and forensic audit by the Justice Department as well as the inspector general."
Mr. Camp said the IRS couldn't provide Lerner emails to and from people outside the agency, "conveniently" feeding the impression she "acted alone." He called for an administration-wide search for her emails. House Oversight and Government Reform Chairman Darrell Issa (R., Calif.) said, "If there wasn't nefarious conduct that went much higher than Lois Lerner in the IRS targeting scandal, why are they playing these games?"
Ms. Lerner herself unsuccessfully tried to get agency technicians to reconstruct her hard drive at the time it crashed, the IRS said.

Issa Subpoenas DOJ in IRS Case

Ms. Lerner is a former head of the agency's exempt-organizations division. The House of Representatives recently voted to hold her in contempt of Congress after she declined to testify at hearings and cited her Fifth Amendment privilege against self-incrimination.
She has said she did nothing wrong in connection with conservative tea-party groups' applications for tax-exempt status. Many of the applications were subjected to heightened scrutiny starting in 2010, at a time when nonprofit groups were becoming more politically active in elections.
Congressional Democrats have argued that some liberal groups eventually were caught up in the IRS net as well.
In a statement, the IRS said that it has made "unprecedented efforts" to comply with congressional demands for documents and information concerning the targeting. The effort has involved more than 250 IRS employees working more than 120,000 hours at a cost of almost $10 million.
Counting information already provided, "investigators have—or will soon have—a total of 67,000 emails sent or received by Ms. Lerner," the IRS said.
The agency added that it is working with Congress and "has remained focused on being thorough and responding as quickly as possible to the wide-ranging requests from Congress while taking steps to protect underlying taxpayer information."

The administration continues to flaunt the law and now they no longer even feign an attempt at hiding it.

I am still trying to think of one organization or department within the Obama bureaucracy that hasn't had some type of scandal associated with it.

All the time, Congress huffs and puffs and does nothing.

Some how that sounds like the IRS did "something".

Now some in the Congress wants a 'fishing expedition' all across the Administration. Doubt if they get it.
The Congress is scandal riven, the Administration is scandal riven, the DoD is scandal riven.

I can't think of a single aspect of the Federal Government that does not have some sort of scandal associated with it.

John Boehner is happy with the status que. There are no criminal complaints being pursued, no Articles of Impeachment filed, not even against Holder, who, if any one in the Administration could be held accountable, it would be Eric Holder.
John Boehner will not act, so there is no play.

When was it his job to fix anything? His job is to make things worse.

How about Department of Marine Fisheries then, if there is such a Department.

There must be one hiding out there somewhere.

  2. Showing my age, I recall when Nixon's private secretary tried to demonstrate how her toe, I believe it was, 'accidentally' erased some critical tape recordings of the White House meetings during the Watergate Scandal.

The technology changes, but human nature remains the same.

I think this administration is far the worst we've had in this regard though, setting a new record that will be hard to match for some time.

Probably for the same reason he's "jealous" that people might worship other gods that don't even exist.

    Groan.

    I'll hazard a guess.

My guess is the Jew outlook might be that such images restrict consciousness of the divine, not enhance it.

Since I'm mostly ignorant on the deeper things of Judaism I leave it there, a guess.

The Hindus on the other hand feel that a proper image......such as Dancing Shiva.......can express the entire outlook in one wonderful image, and may lead the mind to a fuller consciousness of the divine rather than a more restricted one.

  6. Speaking of Chelsea Clinton ....

(Newser) – NBC took flak back in 2011 when it hired Chelsea Clinton as a correspondent despite her lack of journalism experience. It might have taken more if people knew how much the network was paying her: $600,000 a year, reports Politico.

The plum salary is gone, however, because Clinton has now switched to a month-to-contract given her pregnancy and the possibility that you-know-who will run for president.

The report has media tongues wagging, notes the Washington Post, with plenty of tweeted jokes about the Clintons being "dead broke" and general astonishment that she made more than former New York Times editor Jill Abramson. And what did NBC get for that salary? Not much, writes Joe Coscarelli at New York. Her "work included little of note, either journalistically or personally."

NBC, is owned by Comcast ...
Comcast said Tuesday that it will pay $16.7 billion to buy General Electric's remaining 49% stake in their NBCUniversal joint venture, a move that ends GE's long relationship with NBC and further underscores the cable operator's desire to expand content offerings.

Comcast, based in Philadelphia, will pay $11.4 billion in cash, and the rest will be funded with debt and the issuance of stock.

"Our decision to acquire GE's ownership is driven by our sense of optimism for the future prospects of NBCUniversal," says Comcast CEO Brian Roberts in a statement.

Comcast and CEO Brian Roberts ...
Comcast is sometimes described as a family business.[23] Brian L. Roberts, Chairman, President, and CEO of Comcast, is son of co-founder Ralph Roberts. Brian owns or controls just over 1% of all Comcast shares but all of the Class B supervoting shares, which gives him an "undilutable 33% voting power over the company"

Occupation Chairman and CEO of Comcast
Net worth Increase US$1.2 billion (March 2014)[1]
    Spouse(s) Aileen Kennedy Roberts
    Children 3
    Parents Suzanne Fleisher
    Ralph J. Roberts

He was the recipient of the 2004 Humanitarian Award from the Simon Wiesenthal Center[7] and was the 2002 Walter Kaitz Foundation Honoree of the Year for his commitment to diversity in the cable industry. The Police Athletic League of Philadelphia honored Roberts with its 2002 award for his commitment to youth programs and community partnerships. In 2001, he was awarded the USC Shoah Foundation Institute's 2011 Ambassador for Humanity Award.[8] The Aileen K. and Brian L. Roberts Foundation Foundation was one of the largest contributors to the restoration of the Alfred W. Fleisher Memorial Synagogue at Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia named in the honor of his maternal grandfather.

Buying the Clintons, good to know who holds the purse strings, so we can keep that in mind, as time marches on.
Chelsea Clinton, received right around $2 million from NBC/Comcast, a "family owned" business ...

The IEA, which does autonomous energy research and forecasting for 29 member countries, noted that most of Iraq's fighting has occurred in its northern areas, where oil production has largely stalled since March. Most of Iraq's production — which recently hit a 30-year-high — has occurred in the south, and its exports are coming from terminals near Basra.

    Bob,

If there was compatibility, Christians would not have spent the better part of 1700 years screwing over Jews through theft, murder, rape, and banishment. The fact is, there is no compatibility. That is why we insist on having a Jewish state and say, “Come and take it.”

Christians believe in things like the birth of god through a virgin with himself as father; they believe in the death of god, followed by his resurrection so that he could come back to earth and finish his job, whatever that might have been; Christians believe in and practice cannibalism. Jews find all those things amusing but simple minded, as IQ tests bear out. Indeed, some linguists posit that the very word Christian derives from the root word for "cretin" (Frankish), which means retarded (more or less). Oh, we Jews also think it is a good idea to know the language before translating the book or making moronic commentaries on its content, meaning, and implications.

Jewish and Chinese cultures are not compatible, but for different reasons. The Chinese, also having, in the aggregate, higher brain function respect Jews. The feeling is reciprocated.

A substance-abuse counselor was sentenced Thursday to 55 years to life in prison for hitting a pedestrian with her car and driving through Torrance with the dying man on her windshield, behavior that the judge called “a callous murder, not an unfortunate act.”

A jury earlier this year convicted Sherri Lynn Wilkins, 53, of second-degree murder, driving under the influence and hit-and-run.

Prosecutors said Wilkins’ blood-alcohol level was nearly twice the legal limit when she struck 31-year-old Phillip Moreno of Torrance in November 2012 as she was leaving a Torrance counseling center.

She drove two miles through Torrance before other motorists swarmed her car at a traffic light at Crenshaw Boulevard and 182nd Street and kept her there until police arrived. Moreno was taken to a hospital, where he died.

She acknowledged having served time for residential burglaries over the years, and she said she kicked the heroin habit with the help of methadone and more recently had been using medical marijuana.

The night she hit Moreno, she testified, she never saw him coming, and that it was as if he fell from the sky. The defense argued Moreno was drunk and jumped on Wilkins’ car and that she panicked.

The judge called that theory “fanciful” and an effort by Wilkins to evade responsibility.

Sure. Evidence, not superstition. So turn with me now, ladies and gentlemen, to that incredibly pro-Life, pro-Adoption, anti-Abortion law given in Numbers chapter 5.

23 “‘The priest is to write these curses on a scroll and then wash them off into the bitter water.
24 He shall make the woman drink the bitter water that brings a curse, and this water that brings a curse and causes bitter suffering will enter her.
25 The priest is to take from her hands the grain offering for jealousy, wave it before the Lord and bring it to the altar.
26 The priest is then to take a handful of the grain offering as a memorial offering and burn it on the altar; after that, he is to have the woman drink the water.
27 If she has made herself impure and been unfaithful to her husband, this will be the result: When she is made to drink the water that brings a curse and causes bitter suffering, it will enter her, her abdomen will swell and her womb will miscarry, and she will become a curse.
28 If, however, the woman has not made herself impure, but is clean, she will be cleared of guilt and will be able to have children.

When the Romans decided to put an end to genius Jewish rebelliousness, they did so with dispatch through the use of siege engines.

From whom did the genius Jews learn the high art of sailing?

  32. A key Sunni Muslim tribal leader said his forces are helping Iraq’s Shiite-led government battle Islamist militants and called for urgent U.S. military intervention to help stop their advance.

“We’ve been fighting al-Qaeda in Anbar for the past six months and we’re ready to fight for another six months, but we need American support,” Sheikh Ahmed Abu Risha said in a phone interview today from Ramadi in western Iraq. “The United States must take the decision to stage air strikes against the militants or send troops again to Iraq, even if it’s for a limited time.”

It’s the first indication that Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki retains some support in the minority Sunni population, which has complained of being marginalized in the years since the 2003 U.S.-led invasion that led to the ouster of Saddam Hussein. President Barack Obama said yesterday Maliki must do more to reach out to Sunnis as the U.S. considers action to counter the threat from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.

Abu Risha leads the Awakening Council in Anbar province. Also known as The Sahwa or the Sons of Iraq, the councils were organized by the U.S. military in 2006 to fight al-Qaeda during a civil war between Shiites and Sunnis. The U.S. hailed the decision by the councils, whose members included former insurgents, to turn against the terror network as key to a decline in violence in the country.

They COULD have upwards of 12,000 combatants, in Iraq.

Without the Israeli covering their Western flank, the ISIS could be crushed, now, by Assad. But ...
... the Israeli DO have that Western flank.

The Battle for Iraq Is a Saudi War on Iran
Why the ISIS invasion of Iraq is really a war between Shiites and Sunnis for control of the Middle East.

  37. Iraq crisis: Sunni caliphate has been bankrolled by Saudi Arabia
Bush and Blair said Iraq was a war on Islamic fascism. They lost

From Aleppo in northern Syria almost to the Iraqi-Iranian border, the jihadists of Isis and sundry other groupuscules paid by the Saudi Wahhabis – and by Kuwaiti oligarchs – now rule thousands of square miles.

Apart from Saudi Arabia’s role in this catastrophe, what other stories are to be hidden from us in the coming days and weeks?

The story of Iraq and the story of Syria are the same – politically, militarily and journalistically: two leaders, one Shia, the other Alawite, fighting for the existence of their regimes against the power of a growing Sunni Muslim international army.

While the Americans support the wretched Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and his elected Shia government in Iraq, the same Americans still demand the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad of Syria and his regime, even though both leaders are now brothers-in-arms against the victors of Mosul and Tikrit.

The Croesus-like wealth of Qatar may soon be redirected away from the Muslim rebels of Syria and Iraq to the Assad regime, out of fear and deep hatred for its Sunni brothers in Saudi Arabia (which may invade Qatar if it becomes very angry).

We all know of the “deep concern” of Washington and London at the territorial victories of the Islamists – and the utter destruction of all that America and Britain bled and died for in Iraq.

    1. Remember that the Americans captured and recaptured Mosul to crush the power of Islamist fighters. They fought for Fallujah twice. And both cities have now been lost again to the Islamists. The armies of Bush and Blair have long gone home, declaring victory.

Under Obama, Saudi Arabia will continue to be treated as a friendly “moderate” in the Arab world, even though its royal family is founded upon the Wahhabist convictions of the Sunni Islamists in Syria and Iraq – and even though millions of its dollars are arming those same fighters.

Thus does Saudi power both feed the monster in the deserts of Syria and Iraq and cosy up to the Western powers that protect it.

We should also remember that Maliki’s military attempts to retake Mosul are likely to be ferocious and bloody, just as Assad’s battles to retake cities have proved to be.

The refugees fleeing Mosul are more frightened of Shia government revenge than they are of the Sunni jihadists who have captured their city.

  39. Try this reality on for size. If we had let Sadaam take Saudi Arabia, instead of sending in the 82nd Airborne, the jihadis in Arabia would have been busy fighting a secular Iraq rather than worrying about attacking NYC.
