COLLECTIVE MADNESS

“Soft despotism is a term coined by Alexis de Tocqueville describing the state into which a country overrun by "a network of small complicated rules" might degrade. Soft despotism is different from despotism (also called 'hard despotism') in the sense that it is not obvious to the people."

Let Washington Hear the Yell.

They lie to you. They tax you but will not represent you. Big business, lobbyists, lawyers and special interests have their ear, and in many cases own them. It makes no difference if they are Republican or Democrat. They forgot who they are and certainly care little who you are. You must not let them get away with it.

The George Bush amnesty bill, and that is all it is, is the beginning of a monumental social experiment of unknown consequences. It is the result of corporate greed and a callous disregard for the rights and legacy of ordinary US citizens. It is the result of lawmakers who will not enforce the laws that they are sworn to enforce.

Their solution it to pass new laws that will turn loose tens of millions of mostly poor, mostly uneducated people into the United States. They will sign an incomprehensible bill that most will not have read.

The bill, if passed, will be the mother load of future litigation, that will permit the exonerated illegal immigrants to be joined by families, friends and new waves of illegal entrants in staggering numbers. The Consequences to this folly are unknowable, unpredictable and irreversible.

The procedure that will follow will be guaranteed. New legalized citizens will vote Democratic and for more activist government. New waves of special interest lawyers will paralyze the courts and government agencies with a broadening demand for benefits and entitlements for the uninvited millions, who will be joined by more millions. A bloated social welfare, retirement and medical system will be expanded to exhaustion and collapse. This bill is not the end of a process, it is the beginning of a new internationalist entitlement program over the say and wishes of the legal American citizenry. It is only stoppable here and now. There will be no help from the man most of you and this critic elected, George W. Bush. This astonishing fool believes this bill will be his legacy.

These senators are on the fence. Here are the names and fax numbers:

Reid: “free, open, and transparent amendment process”

Wanna know what Reid’s response was? Stay tuned. This entire process has stunk to high heaven from the get-go. No matter what happens on the Senate floor tomorrow on the cloture vote on the motion to proceed, do not forget this fact.
Do not forget that the Grand Schemers in the White House and in both parties in the Senate have collaborated with Ted Kennedy and the open borders to ram this fundamentally flawed package down our throats–and subvert the deliberative process.

Whatever happens tomorrow morning, there remains a critical time period between tomorrow and Thursday, when the cloture vote on the overall shamnesty takes place. This fight began a long time ago.

    It doesn’t end tomorrow.

My Hill sources say Senate wafflers are feeling the heat.
They need to feel it all week long.

  5. This Bill is being presented and voted upon, in the normal course of events. The Lawmakers rarely read the Laws they pass. Nothing new there.

    As Ms Malkin said
"This fight began a long time ago."

It will march on, regardless of the bote, voday, thursday or next year. If it does not pass, the silent amnesty that rufus has supported for years will continue.

The undocumented will continue coming, the US will continue to absorb them. Regardless.

Secure the border, with existing laws, or not.

It is all eyewash if there is no fence.

  11. The Road Back to Damascus

Syria is budget friendly and largely safe for Western tourists

I FELT someone staring at me.
As I discreetly tried to photograph a Damascus sidewalk stand of militant Islamic religious posters — including the Hezbollah leader Sheik Hassan Nasrallah and his Kalashnikov-toting guerrillas — I looked around and realized that the young, rough-shaven salesman had spotted my camera.

“Where you from?” he said, in English, as women in headscarves battled for plastic shoes from an adjacent sidewalk dealer.

“New York,” I answered, lowering my lens and awaiting a tirade against my country — or worse. Instead, he broke into a smile.

“New York, great city!” he said. “Ahlan wa sahlan bi Sham.”

Ahlan wa sahlan bi Sham: Welcome to Damascus.

  13. USA Captures 4th Gold Cup After Pulsating 2-1 Win Over Mexico
One wonders if they got a call from the President, or was the win seen as just another sign of US xenophobia?

"... a U.S.-Mexico showdown to decide the CONCACAF championship? That's what was expected by most and the two teams did not disappoint when they got there, staging an abosrbing, highly intesne and competitive match that was decided on a world class goal.

The result? A 2-1 come from behind win for the United States at Solider Field on Sunday that gave them back to back Gold Cup championships and their fourth overall, joint leaders with Mexico.

  14. BAGHDAD — Five sheiks and a political official supporting the arming of Sunni Arab tribes to fight against al-Qaida in Iraq were among 13 people killed Monday in a massive bomb blast at a heavily guarded Baghdad hotel.

The attack risked derailing an emerging alliance between Sunni tribal leaders in long-restive Anbar province and the country's Shiite majority the day after a key round of negotiations to formalize their relationship with Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's government.

No group immediately claimed responsibility, though U.S. and Iraqi government officials blamed al-Qaida-linked militants.

The explosion at the fortified Mansour Melia hotel, home to the Chinese Embassy, parliament members and prominent national figures, came on a day that saw dozens of deaths across Iraq in suicide attacks, bombings and mortar strikes.

Most all of those here legally can. Those born here can, without doubt, in more than 95% of the cases I know of.

In the case of those that came here, as young children, this rule of thumb may not hold true.

It does cause for discrimination, though, against those self identifying Mexicans that are here legally.
Assumptions, here in AZ, are that the self-identifying Mexican is here, illegally, unless proven otherwise. Especially so, if they do not have much in the way of english speaking skills.

"And that's why it is important for me to remind people that there will be a transfer of full sovereignty to an Iraqi government, and that the Iraqi people will be making the decisions as to how to proceed forward. And we are there to help them," he said. That help will come in the form of security and rebuilding efforts, he said.

The president noted that Italian and American forces would remain in Iraq to help establish security so that the Iraqi people can live their lives "free of fear." And both countries will help rebuild Iraq's infrastructure and help Iraq's economy "grow and prosper," he added.

Bush echoed a message similar to the one he gave the American public during his weekly national radio address June 5, telling the Italians that the "war on terror is the challenge of our time."

"Democracy and prosperity are the antidotes to the bitterness and hatred that feed terrorism," he explained.

"As freedom advances in the Middle East, more and more people in that region will be inspired -- inspired to peace, inspired to dedicate their lives to the welfare of their families and to the success of their nations."

He added that "the bitterness and burning hatreds that feed terrorism will fade away, and America and Italy and the rest of the world will be more safe."

The Italians left, didn't they. Must have completed the Mission.

  30. The US current tactical policy in Anbar gives lie to the past statements of Mr Bush.

The US is arming and funding Baathist insurgents, in Anbar. Four of the new US allied insurgent leaders were killed yesterday, in Baghdad. While in the midst of "secret talks"

Regardless the elected government of Iraq, represented by Mr Maliki, stands four square against this new US policy.

Regardless of its effectiveness, the Pentagon’s new tactic makes a mockery of the Bush administration’s claims to be disarming militias and building a stable, sovereign, democratic Iraq. In opening up negotiations and concluding alliances with Sunni Arab tribes and militias, the US military is effectively undermining the Shiite-dominated government of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki in Baghdad. Many of the groups currently receiving American arms were connected with the Sunni-based Baathist regime of Saddam Hussein and are deeply hostile to the Maliki government.
    ...
As the New York Times noted: “American commanders say the Sunni groups they are negotiating with show few signs of wanting to work with the Shiite-led government... For their part, Shiite leaders are deeply suspicious of any American move to co-opt Sunni groups that are wedded to a return of Sunni political dominance.” Yet, if the “Anbar model” is any guide, American negotiations involve not just a military alliance, but a political perspective for the tribal sheiks to eventually control the provincial administration and have a greater say in Baghdad.
    ...
Aside from any immediate military motivation, the arming of Sunni militias and the establishment of “salvation councils” in key Sunni provinces is one means of corroding the influence of the Shiite-dominated government in Baghdad. US military support for these militias and tribal groups is establishing alternative centres of power at the regional level in opposition to the Maliki regime.

In comments on Sunday, Major-General Rick Lynch was openly critical of the Maliki government, saying he was concerned “whether or not that government is a truly representative government”. He objected to the interference of national officials in freeing, on what he claimed was a political or sectarian basis, detainees rounded up by US troops.
    ...
Lynch made clear just whom the US is recruiting in comments in Monday’s New York Times article. After declaring that American commanders faced difficult choices, he pointed out that some of the Sunni groups make no secret of their hostility to the US occupation. “They say, ‘We hate you because you are occupiers, but we hate Al Qaeda worse, and we hate the Persians even more’,” Lynch explained.

This last reference is to the Shiite-dominated Maliki government, which Sunni extremists regard as nothing more than a pawn of Iran, or Persia.

So the US is actively unmining the Iraqi Government, the dually elected Iraqi Government, selected by the purple fingers of Iraqi liberty, the government that Mr Bush said we were waiting for.

It makes one wonder, how did that bomber get through those 3 checkpoints?

    Who was he working for?
    aQ or Mr Maliki's government?

  34. I just let Dick Burr have it. His voicemail box was full, so hopefully it has melted down from the fire-breathing constituency infuriated at his betrayal.

    Message sent:

    Senator Burr,

I am wholly disgusted with your voting for cloture of the Amnesty Bill.

You are a good guy and I have appreciated your support on many of the issues of the day, but this one is THE Big Enchilada - pun intended.

This bill, and its imminent passage, illustrates vividly for me now how utterly corrupt the Senate and Congress as a whole have become.

80% of this country stands against this bill for a variety of extremely vital and valid reasons.

However, our Lords and Masters (that would be you guys and the Administration) have chosen to serve the people who bought them their seats, instead of the people that voted them into office.

Big business, the DNC, racialists, and the Skull and Bones set that George Bush and his globalist buddies move around in have won the day.

The contempt displayed by the Senate and the Administration for the Consent of the Governed can no longer be hidden or denied.

Contempt by this Administration for the Rule of Law is inexplicable.

George Bush chose to do NOTHING about our borders after 9/11/2001. He didn't like our immigration laws, so he chose not to enforce them, and now tells us that because he didn't enforce the law, we only have one option to deal with his mess. Turn criminals into legals with the stroke of a pen. If we don't like it, then "we're not doing what's right for America."

That Sir, is the model of tyranny.

The passage of this bill into law will be recorded as the day that the Republic of the United States of America ceased to exist.

It will also be recorded as the day George Bush handed the Republican Party a loaded .44 magnum and the Big, Stinking Elephant blew its brains out and facilitated its own extinction.

The criminal aliens that stormed our borders are by and far poor, uneducated and unskilled. These people will vote for every politician that promises free goodies at the expense of taxpaying, law-abiding citizens and legal aliens with Green Cards and all the right paperwork.

Unlike previous immigrant waves, this wave comes with a smoldering grievance and belief that the US Southwest should be reclaimed as Mexican territory. Many don't come with plans to assimilate. Many are coming to reconquer. THAT is different from the Jews, Poles, Irish and Italians from years past.

When this bill becomes law, we will become a one-party, socialist tyranny. We will become Mexico, and Mexico will become Venezuela.

When election time comes around again, I am going to work my hardest to ensure that every single person - ESPECIALLY Republicans - who betrayed this country will be serving their last terms.

I want every politician who has done anything to support George Bush's immigration policies to swagger off in the Sonoran Desert with the Yale-blue-blood, Tejas-Cowboy sellout when his term expires in 2009.

I have a long memory, and I will make sure that every North Carolinian I know has one too.

    Good Day, Sir.

  41. The Senate debate before today’s cloture vote followed the lines that is has for weeks.

“It may not be perfect,” said Senator Edward M. Kennedy, Democrat of Massachusetts and a key backer of the bill. But over all, he said, it is “a good bill” and perhaps the last best chance for a long time to fix a broken system.

But a prominent critic of the bill, Senator John Cornyn, Republican of Texas, urged his colleagues to “slow down and read this bill.” If Americans knew what was really in it, he said, they “could be forgiven for doubting the commitment of the federal government” about border security.
