What does Hillary Clinton really think about Iraq? - BBC interview

AND GAY MARRIAGE...

Hillary Clinton lashes out at NPR host during tense interview about gay marriage
The likely 2016 presidential candidate criticized ‘Fresh Air’ host Terry Gross for her persistence in asking about why she decided to publicly support gay-marriage after years of waffling on the issue.
BY ADAM EDELMAN NEW YORK DAILY NEWS Thursday, June 12, 2014, 5:28 PM

Hillary Clinton lashed out against a well-known radio-show host Thursday after she was pressed for reasons why she waited so long to publicly express her support for gay-marriage.
NPR’s Terry Gross, the host of the network’s “Fresh Air” program, repeatedly asked Clinton whether her decision to support gay marriage, after years of opposition and waffling, occurred because her views on the issue had changed or whether it was a result of growing national acceptance and the politics surrounding the once-controversial matter having changed.
Clinton publicly expressed her support for gay marriage last year, after she stepped down as Secretary of State, but that didn’t stop Gross from hammering her on the timing of the announcement — which, in turn, caused Clinton to grow frustrated.
“I have to say, I think you are being very persistent, but you are playing with my words and playing with what is such an important issue,” Clinton said in a testy exchange that ran several minutes.
“I’m just trying to clarify so I understand,” Gross responded.

I have a strong record, I have a great commitment to this issue, and I am proud of what I’ve done and the progress we’re making."

“No, I don’t think you are trying to clarify,” Clinton shot back. “I think you’re trying to say I used to be opposed and now I’m in favor and I did it for political reasons, and that’s just flat wrong. So let me just state what I feel like you are implying and repudiate it.”
“I have a strong record, I have a great commitment to this issue, and I am proud of what I’ve done and the progress we’re making,” Clinton added.
Gross then gently tried again to explain what she had attempted to ask before.
“I was saying that you maybe really believed (in) this all along but thought for political reasons America wasn’t ready yet and you couldn’t say it ,” Gross said.
“No, that is not true,” Clinton, who had appeared on the show to promote her new book “Hard Choices,” responded sharply.
Clinton, in fact, was lauded during her tenure at the State Department for her support of LGBT issues in internal department personnel matters.
But her public support of legalizing gay marriage came after years of providing unclear answers on the issue — in 2003, she told CBS News that she was against same-sex marriage, but supported same-sex civil unions — and only after several other prominent Democrats, including President Obama, Vice President Biden and New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo came out in support of the issue.
The tense interview Thursday, which was taped and posted to the Internet by a Republican political action committee, marked the first time Clinton, who many think will run for President in 2016, has been so aggressively questioned about the change in her stance.
Later in the exchange, Clinton pointed out that even many long-time gay-marriage supporters couldn’t have anticipated its speedy acceptance on the national stage.
“I did not grow up even imagining gay marriage, and I don’t think you probably did, either,” she said to Gross. “This was an incredibly new and important idea that people on the front lines of the gay right movement began to talk about and slowly, but surely, convinced others of the rightness of that position. And when I was ready to say what I said, I said it.”

  1. At least Hilary has the gut's to talk about it. John Bhoener dodges the question and goes on a 5 minute rant attacking the President. Once again, the head Republican has no answers. It just amazes me that as leader of congress you don’t believe any of those problems you are ranting about should be fixed by this Republican " Do Nothing" congress.

However, the Mideast is descending in to chaos and the recent assertiveness of Russia and China will dictate the next president will have to display competency in the handling of foreign affairs. Hillary Clinton’s lack of any discernible accomplishment as secretary of state will hurt her.

    2. Bob,

Here are some things that I've learned about politics and the thread of history:

      NOTHING is by accident.
      NOTHING is coincidence.
      EVERYTHING is planned.

EVERYTHING we witness on the propaganda outlets is a fake manufactured dialectic, planned years and decades prior. The muppets selected for the theater change but the script and the system remain the same. There's NOTHING you can do to change things other than walk away from it all and let the system collapse under the weight of its own fraud and illegitimacy.

You are wasting your time and emotions. In your critical health condition you can ill afford this. You need to find a more positive way to keep your mind occupied. Cancer is as much an emotional disease as it is a physical disease.

That the explanation for that collapse is that planes hit two of the three building that collapsed of 11SEP2001, not as part of a terrorist conspiracy, but by coincidence.

Then the building that was not hit by a plane, WTC Building 7, fell into it's own footprint, unlike a domino.

    6. The Salomon Brothers building, WTC #7, fell by coincidence, that day.
Amongst all the debris, it was coincidence that Mohammed Atta's passport was picked up from the street, not magic.

In less than a week came another find, two blocks away from the twin towers, in the shape of Atta's passport. We had all seen the blizzard of paper rain down from the towers, but the idea that Atta's passport had escaped from that inferno unsinged would have tested the credulity of the staunchest supporter of the FBI's crackdown on terrorism.

Yet we were still in the infancy of coincidence. On September 24 the belongings of alleged terrorist Zacarias Moussaoui threw up a cropdusting manual, while four days later came Atta's suicide note, the one with the counsel to shine your shoes before you meet your maker - a piece of advice which seemed suspiciously Norman Rockwellesque. It was here, too, that the stuff about 72 virgins awaiting him in heaven first started to circulate.

    5. PHOENIX - An international child porn ring with ties to Arizona has been shut down.

For the first time, law enforcement officials are sharing the latest, inside details in a case involving 30,000 customers, 132 countries and more than 230 websites.

Law enforcement officials from around the globe are calling it the most important child pornography bust in the history of the Internet.

Matthew Allen is Special Agent in Charge for Homeland Security Investigation and Immigration Customs Enforcement in Arizona.

He oversees any leads identified in Arizona by the international child pornography bust, otherwise known as Project Flicker.
      - This also involves many of those in high security offices in the US government, click the link to read more.

“If the average American were to see it they would be completely outraged at the kind of victimization that goes on,” Allen said. “[It] resulted in more than 5,000 leads in the United States involving individuals who have subscribed or downloaded child pornography from websites.”
      - Yeah, I'm sure they would, and a lot of them run hold positions in the US government!

Allen said the focus of Project Flicker wasn’t just to identify who was at the center of the child pornography ring.

“The focus of Flicker was kind of backward, looking at the people who subscribed to the child pornography websites,” he said.

Among those identified as customers were 10,000 Americans. Individuals who subscribed were given access to images and videos of sexually exploited boys and girls, some possibly as young as three-years old.

“[Their ages] spanned from infancy all the way to adulthood,” Allen said.

Now, a Scripps Howard News Service investigation has uncovered new details involved in these cases, such as who was buying the sexually explicit material. Doctors, police officers, sheriff’s deputies, attorneys, church preachers and school teachers were just some of the customer’s professions identified as buying child pornography.

As the result of a lead from Project Flicker, one Valley school teacher has been accused of purchasing child pornography.

[name withheld], 30, was a fifth-grade teacher at Sun Canyon Elementary in west Phoenix until his arrest in May for allegedly possessing child pornography.

Parents in the west Phoenix neighborhood spoke with ABC15 in May when [name withheld] was arrested.

"I'm shocked this is my school down the street,” one parent told ABC15.

[name withheld] has not been convicted of any crime, and is currently awaiting trail.

While the focus of Project Flicker is to stop the spread of child pornography, Allen says protecting its victims is just as important.

“In the end, our true goal is to identify the victims and make sure they become whole again,” Allen said.

MCSO drug, prostitution sting nets 111 arrests

      PHOENIX (CBS5) -

More than 100 arrests were made by Maricopa County sheriff's deputies during a two-week long undercover drug and prostitution sting.

Day after day, men lined up outside local hotel rooms waiting for their chance to have sex with underage girls, who they believed to be about 16 years old, MCSO said.

"These are husbands and fathers, many of whom came on their lunch hour, or came in their company vans," said Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

"One man told the officers he wanted to have sex with two girls and dropped by to do that on his way to his own daughter's 16th birthday party," Arpaio said.

The crackdown began on Dec. 2.

Two female Tempe police detectives posed as underage teen girls when talking on the telephone with suspects who responded to an online ad placed on Back Page.

Within only minutes of placing the ads, dozens of calls immediately came in, Arpaio said.

Each caller was told by the female detectives posing as prostitutes that they were underage and willing to perform various sexual acts.

The men came to the agreed location, the female detectives posing as underage prostitutes reiterated their ages as 16, a verbal contract for sex was stated, money was displayed and the arrests then followed, the sheriff said.

"Some of those we arrested were so anxious to engage in sex with a minor that detectives literally witnessed them lining up in the parking lot," Arpaio said.

The spokesman said there were 30 arrests for soliciting a minor for prostitution and 21 drug arrests during "Operation Vice Grip" that netted 111 arrests overall.

Deputies also seized 32 pounds of methamphetamine, 2 kilos of cocaine and 487 pounds of marijuana.

Arpaio said one of those arrested was a high school chemistry teacher who taught at Betty H. Fairfax High School in Laveen. Jerry Marfe, 54, was arrested Dec. 6 and resigned his teaching position Dec. 11.

The Phoenix Union High School District issued statement said it was notified of Marfe's arrest Dec. 7 and immediately placed him on emergency leave. The district said he resigned four days later.

Marfe was a teacher in the district for 27 years, teaching at Alhambra, Cesar Chavez and Betty H. Fairfax high schools, according to the district's statement.

The district said staff, student and parents were notified last week of an arrest and resignation at the school without elaborating because of the MCSO's ongoing investigation.

The district was "shocked by the news of (Marfe's) arrest," the statement concluded.

A level-two sex offender currently on probation, Raymond John Cordero was arrested as well as another man, John David Wythe, 48, who had served 10 years in prison for child molestation, the sheriff's office said.

Solicitation of a minor for purposes of prostitution is a class two felony that carries a penalty of a minimum of seven years in prison if convicted.

      Prostitution law in Phoenix
      February 28, 2011 | Prostitution laws
Phoenix, the capital of Arizona, is not only the largest city in the state, but it is also the largest capital city in the United States. With nearly 1.5 million residents, Phoenix’s metropolitan area is known as the “Valley of the Sun”. The county seat of Maricopa County, the area has been known in past years to have higher than average crime rates, along with more prostitution arrests than any other Arizona county.

Crackdowns have included several sting arrests of prostitution rings involving participants from several states. In 2008, a ring was destroyed. It was determined that more and more prostitution is conducted through websites advertising escorts. Law enforcement officials have learned that some prostitution profits in Phoenix go directly to support drug and smuggling operations.

      Modern prostitution law in Phoenix

The city laws of Phoenix specify that prostitution is a misdemeanor (just like determined by Arizona state laws on prostitution). Offenders arrested for the first time may serve 15 days in jail. Second offenses receive sentences of 30 days in jail, while offenders arrested for a third time spend 60 days in jail. Prostitutes arrested for a fourth offense may be convicted of a felony and spend up to 18 months in prison.

Penalties are more serious for pimps and brothel owners. Offenders convicted of these crimes may serve up to 18 months in prison and pay a fine up to $150,000. Pimping and brothel ownership are considered felony convictions.

More serious consideration is being taken to address the increasing problem of kidnapping occurrences in Phoenix and other parts of Arizona. It is presumed that a portion of these kidnappings result in human trafficking and prostitution.

  7. Can Raul Labrador capitalize on grassroots anti-establishment sentiment in GOP?
POSTED AT 10:31 AM ON JUNE 13, 2014 BY NOAH ROTHMAN

    Hot Air

Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) looks to have the votes for a bid to replace Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA) as Republican House Majority Leader all sewn up. Rep. Pete Sessions (R-TX), once McCarthy’s chief rival for the post, has already bowed out. But, as many commentators have already noted, McCarthy’s ascension to leadership in the House would be the ultimate expression by establishment Republicans that they do not understand the moment or the anxieties of average GOP voters.

HotAir’s Ed Morrissey noted on Friday that astute right-leaning political analysts like Philip Klein and Byron York have observed that the House GOP seems to have not internalized what Cantor’s primary loss means for the party.

“Cantor became part of the institutions rather than someone who could represent his district’s interests in contrast to them,” Morrissey wrote. “Cantor missed the populist swing in his district, and the House GOP seems to be missing it in general.”

A rather unflattering piece in Politico published on Thursday details how well-connected McCarthy is. And while that Beltway insider status makes for an effective Majority Leader – indeed, it is what made Cantor effective in that position – it also demonstrates why he is not the man for this populist moment.

Politico promoted this piece with one particularly devastating tweet:

Enter Rep. Raul Labrador (R-ID). The sophomore Republican representative, first elected in the 2010 tea party wave, began to float the notion on Thursday that he might step up and incur the wrath of House leadership by making a bid for Majority Leader.

Labrador speaks to both conservative and libertarian wings of the party. He is conservative on social issues and sufficiently populist on budgetary matters (he supported a problematic but popular balanced budget amendment to the Constitution, for example). While Labrador, as a former member of the “Group of Eight,” is pro-immigration reform, he is not rigidly so. After Cantor’s loss, he told reporters that even minor reforms to the country’s immigration system will not pass this year.

Moreover, he counters a media narrative about the Republican Party which McCarthy merely advances. A Puerto Rican by birth, Labrador speaks with a mild accent. An unfortunately prolific talking point about the GOP’s unfriendliness toward minorities, furthered by GOP primary voters jettisoning their only Jewish member in Congress, would be blunted by Labrador’s ascension to Majority Leader.

It is somewhat vexing that leadership votes in the body of government most responsive to the will of the people are not at all responsive to public sentiment. Labrador may not be able to overcome the House GOP’s unwillingness to comprehend the depth of apprehension Republican voters have toward Washington elites. If, however, Labrador can create a groundswell in his favor, that calculation might change.

The prospect of losing elections usually has a sobering effect on the political class. Many in Washington appear to have convinced themselves that Cantor’s defenestration was a fluke. Even if Labrador is unsuccessful in a potential bid for House leadership, the scare he would put into otherwise unresponsive GOP leaders would go a long way toward driving the lessons of Cantor’s loss home.

U.S. Aircraft Could Strike Iraq Tomorrow

“Part of the hesitance for the senators to advocate the American military jump into the fray may have been the dramatic details of their classified briefing, which involved descriptions of the vehicles and weaponry that ISIS is bringing back to Syria and the collapse of the Iraqi Army’s resolve.

“That was a surprise to everybody, to have four major divisions fold as quickly as they did, without even a fight, some of them” Sen. Joe Manchin, a Democrat, said... That’s a concern, and why we weren’t more apprised of that, or had more knowledge of that.”

But they draw the line at discussion of who placed Mr Obama and Mrs Clinton into the positions they hold in our society. Those are not within the bounds of what they accept as prudent subjects.

We must ignore Lester Crown and Leslie Moonves, while savaging their figureheads.

Comical, they are, trying to control the message. While ignoring realiy, claiming that to discuss the background of the figureheads is "Racist", Anti-Semitic", while being unable to dispute the facts presented.

So they rush to the ad hominem, while claiming that it is used against them, when "they" are never mentioned, just described in the abstract, as pawns of nation states not individuals. Claiming that when Israeli propagandists are discussed, we ALL know that it is them..They place themselves in that position, because that is where they fit in the story.

But never do they deny the influence of the $8 million dollars paid to Mrs Clinton.

  26. Israel is "the" Jewish state according to Jewish tradition, occupation, UN Resolution, and force majeure. It is the place of refuge and the home of the world’s Jews. Judaism is the cultural expression of Jewish ethnicity, including Jewish religion, but also including ethics, law, philosophy, outlook, cuisine, music, literature, art, architecture, sexual mores, etc. Of the world’s six recognized cultures, no two have much in common other than superficially as the matter of expediency.

Judaism in Europe was nearly eliminated by the extermination of Jews and the wanton destruction of a vast volume of literature expressing the tenets of Judaism and its professors. The modern model of European culture, as that relates to Jews, was Martin Luther. Since Luther was certain that Jewish culture posed the single most lethal threat to Christianity, his murderously vituperative polemics addressed specifically the "Judaizing" of Western European institutions. Because Luther and the Pontiff both agreed that Slavs were heretics, the Reformers, including the Calvinists, and the Roman Church focused on the West. At any rate, Luther was the perfect voice for more than two-thousand years of European history because he brought all the hatred to the final solution, mass murder on an industrial scale.

In one of history’s strange quirks, while fighting to the death during the Thirty Years’ War, Protestants and Romans spared no effort in ferreting out Christians of questionable fidelity. Indeed, the Inquisition was significantly ramped up to find “the betrayers of the body and blood of Jesus” within the ranks of the Church; those who would dare challenge the efficacy of faith and the sacraments with precepts of Jewish law.

In another area of agreement, the Papacy of the Counter-Reformation and the Protestants equally despised and scorned the Talmud. Wagonloads of Talmuds were torched in both Paris and Geneva, to name but two places of auto-de-fes – one Roman Catholic, the other Protestant. Moreover, it seemed only logical to add any other Jewish literature that might come to hand. Consequently, mountains of literature were set aflame to prevent them from polluting both the minds of Jews (aggressively proselytized) and ignorant Christians unaware of Satan’s agents, the Jews and their abominable law, responsa, and commentary.

The Talmud was the target of such animosity, not because it was consistent, rational, captivatingly written, or well organized (The Talmud must be the most disorganized assemblage of essays et al ever passed down to posterity). However, the Talmud is infinitely adaptable and covers EVERYTHING known to human experience. The SCHOTTENSTEIN Edition contains 73 volumes and has a delivery weight of 330 pounds. The Talmud is the playbook that instructs, via finely argued distinctions, how a Jew is to do in his time and place what the Torah orders him to do.

Thus, a Jew is one belonging to a distinct and scientifically definable ethnicity, who is associated, willingly or not (See NAZI, Trotsky, Chomsky), with a unique culture which has been under attack in Europe since at least the 6th C. B.C.E. Although anti-Judaism, is an irrational evil, in every century there have been those eager to denigrate Jews and their culture, Judaism, under some more or less insane pretext, e.g. circumcision and atheism. Genocide has been the goal on countless occasions of Jew haters. This century’s excuse is the cause of the noble Palestinians – who knows what the cause will be next century, but you may be certain that some cretin will rise to the occasion. You also may be certain that Jews, Judaism, and Israel are not going away.

Rep. Raul Labrador just released a statement announcing his bid for House majority leader. (AP...
Second-term Rep. Raul Labrador, R-Idaho, plans to challenge Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., for the second most powerful House leadership position.

Labrador just released a statement announcing his bid for House majority leader, saying he believes Majority Leader Eric Cantor's primary loss on Tuesday shows, “Americans are looking for a change in the status quo.”

The leadership election is scheduled for June 19. Labrador made the announcement a half-day after it appeared McCarthy had the job locked up with no opponents.

Sign Up for the Politics Today newsletter!
Now, a Labrador aide said, the contest is up in the air.

“The old math can be thrown out,” the aide said, without revealing how many lawmakers support Labrador. “It’s a whole new ballgame.”

Now serving as House majority whip, McCarthy has been cultivating close relationships with the rank and file for years and claimed by Thursday to have gathered the backing of more than half the conference.

His only opponent, House Rules Committee Chairman Pete Sessions, R-Texas, dropped out Thursday night as his became clear he stood little chance of winning.

But the inevitability of McCarthy succeeding Cantor angered the most conservative faction of the House.

They had tried to recruit House Financial Services Committee Chairman Jeb Hensarling, R-Texas, but he declined to run.

    Then they pursued Labrador.

“He got a lot of encouragement from other members,” a source close to the discussions told the Washington Examiner.

Many consider McCarthy to be a politically similar to Cantor, particularly when it comes to immigration reform.

Both Cantor and McCarthy, his protege, have expressed acceptance of legislation that would eventually legalize those who came here illegally, which some conservatives view as a form of amnesty.

Additionally, conservative talk show hosts who boosted Cantor's primary opponent Dave Brat to victory have been railing against McCarthy as another “pro-amnesty” leader.

Labrador, a former immigration lawyer, hardly fits the profile of what many conservatives want, which is someone to oppose any immigration reform that increases immigration, both legal and illegal, which they say will decrease employment and deflate wages.

He opposes immigration reform of any kind in 2014, but said he believes in eventually increasing legal immigration and creating a guest worker program after border security is increased.

But Labrador has said he opposes a pathway to citizenship. This could help him win favor with conservatives who might view him as an imperfect but far more attractive alternative to McCarthy.

Labrador, who worked as an immigration attorney before serving in Congress, was part of a bipartisan group in the House that was working on a reform bill. But Labrador famously quit the group because of a disagreement with its other members over whether to entitle undocumented immigrants to some form of healthcare.

Labrador has not been shy about criticizing House Speaker John Boehner of Ohio, saying that he should step down if he allows a vote on an immigration bill this year.

      What a farce.

      Delete
    3. Rep. Raul Labrador (R-ID), who worked as an immigration attorney before entering politics, began the current session of Congress as one of the single most important players on the pro-reform side.

After President Obama’s dominant performance with Latino voters in 2012, Labrador worked with a bipartisan group of eight House members on a comprehensive immigration bill. Their efforts were essentially the House version of the Senate’s bipartisan “Gang of Eight”, which produced a sweeping immigration bill that passed last year.

Labrador’s popularity with the tea party lent irreplaceable credibility to the House’s immigration reform efforts in early 2013. He criticized Mitt Romney’s “self-deportation” policy and urged the party to take an active role in crafting a centrist alternative.

“It’s one of the stumbling blocks that I see for some Republicans. They’re moderate on every other issue, and they think this is the one issue where they have to become conservatives,” he told the Washington Post in February of last year. “I feel the reverse.”

Labrador favored some path to limited legal status for undocumented immigrants – a position most of his colleagues were reluctant to adopt – and said he was uncomfortable barring people from attaining citizenship through existing channels once they settled down.

“We shouldn’t create a second class group that could never become citizens, but we should also not give them a special pathway that nobody can follow,” Labrador said in March 2013 in a panel discussion with several similarly conservative lawmakers.

At one point, Labrador’s suggestion of legal status with no explicit ban on applying for green cards and eventual naturalization looked like a promising compromise.

  31. (Newser) – NBC took flak back in 2011 when it hired Chelsea Clinton as a correspondent despite her lack of journalism experience. It might have taken more if people knew how much the network was paying her: $600,000 a year, reports Politico.

The plum salary is gone, however, because Clinton has now switched to a month-to-contract given her pregnancy and the possibility that you-know-who will run for president.

The report has media tongues wagging, notes the Washington Post, with plenty of tweeted jokes about the Clintons being "dead broke" and general astonishment that she made more than former New York Times editor Jill Abramson. And what did NBC get for that salary? Not much, writes Joe Coscarelli at New York. Her "work included little of note, either journalistically or personally."

Comcast said Tuesday that it will pay $16.7 billion to buy General Electric's remaining 49% stake in their NBCUniversal joint venture, a move that ends GE's long relationship with NBC and further underscores the cable operator's desire to expand content offerings.

Comcast, based in Philadelphia, will pay $11.4 billion in cash, and the rest will be funded with debt and the issuance of stock.

"Our decision to acquire GE's ownership is driven by our sense of optimism for the future prospects of NBCUniversal," says Comcast CEO Brian Roberts in a statement.

Labrador, a politico that promises to quit if there is a vote

Labrador, who worked as an immigration attorney before serving in Congress, was part of a bipartisan group in the House that was working on a reform bill. But Labrador famously quit the group because of a disagreement with its other members over whether to entitle undocumented immigrants to some form of healthcare.

Labrador has not been shy about criticizing House Speaker John Boehner of Ohio, saying that he should step down if he allows a vote on an immigration bill this year.

    What a farce.
