COLLECTIVE MADNESS

“Soft despotism is a term coined by Alexis de Tocqueville describing the state into which a country overrun by "a network of small complicated rules" might degrade. Soft despotism is different from despotism (also called 'hard despotism') in the sense that it is not obvious to the people."

By the way, I saw an old photo here of Cheapside in Lexington in the old days. Everyone, black, white, yellow (there were some) were dressed up and had some kind of hats on, mingling with the horses and wagons. You've seen photos like this too, of how they dressed better back in the day, even though broke. More form.

That doesn't make any sense, Ruf.

Seeing how Obama has driven people further apart.

And, telling his AG not to prosecute blacks.

I recall Jesse Jackson Sr. making the comment, regarding Obama, back during the primaries, "Cut his balls off."

All this overheated rhetoric is a sign of a society losing its form.

Romney will not, for instance, give his opponents, as Obama did Hillary, the cool bird in front of millions.

  7. ship all the jobs to China?

    What fool said that?

Republicans are being hammered by a series of Democrat commercials suggesting that Bain Capital, and Mitt Romney by association, were instrumental in outsourcing jobs to China. At the same time, campaign commercials represent President Obama as the "made in America" candidate. Indeed, Mr. Obama is cast as the savior of General Motors (GM) and thousands of American jobs. These are just two of the stereotypes of the 2012 campaign to date, neither of which stands up to a fact-check.

In spite of the Obama claims, the CEO of GM, when he speaks in China, is singing another tune. Dan Akerson is fond of telling the Chinese that "GM is well established for the future of China." He also brags about the eleven GM assembly plants in China, four GM power train plants in China, and plans to transfer most high-tech research to China. Akerson also boasts that 70% of GM vehicles are made in China.

    5. It is bringing a gun to a gun fight. The Democrats play racial politics all the time. Obama is a master at it. The memo exposes hypocrisy. Remember the Boston white cop or the Florida thug that reminded Obama of his own son? Remember the press coverage? The obsession about who was white and who was black?

The media feels it is both necessary to broadcast racial details when it is white on black crime and hide it when it is black on white. I don’t do that here. It makes some uncomfortable. If you want to know who is the racialist, dive into some black media.

Obama blatantly distorts his speech pattern to play his race card. He uses black jargon in front of black audiences but not in front of white. Why is that?

      Your objection is noted.

  14. A new poll shows Mitt Romney flipping a 5-point deficit in Colorado before the first presidential debate, which was held on Wednesday in Denver, to a 3.5-point advantage later in the week — another signal that Mr. Romney's comparatively strong debate performance has started to translate into rising poll numbers for the Republican.

A poll from Gravis Marketing, conducted Oct. 3-4, shows Mr. Romney with a 49.4 percent to 45.9 percent lead over Mr. Obama. The president had held nearly a 5-point lead in a poll conducted Sept. 25, at 50.2 percent to 45.5 percent.

Mr. Obama's job approval numbers are also significantly underwater in the new poll: 40.5 percent approve, while 50.9 percent disapprove. Just 36.8 percent of voters say the country is on the right track, compared to 53.5 percent who think it's on the wrong track.

The political party affiliation of the survey's sample was about 32 percent Republican, 28 percent Democrat and 40 percent "other."

The poll surveyed 1,438 likely voters on Oct. 3-4, and 1,285 gave a response on their preference for president. The margin of error of the poll is 2.8 percentage points.

Elsewhere, a new national poll from Clarus Research Group also shows Mr. Romney taking a slight lead among voters nationwide after trailing Mr. Obama earlier in the week. Mr. Obama led by 4 points in a poll conducted Tuesday, but Mr. Romney leads by 1 point in a poll conducted Thursday — the day after the debate.

The polls of 590 likely voters have a margin of error of about 4 percentage points.

Obama the least dangerous to the republic? Laughable. He guts the Constitution right and left.

As far as his performance on issues people seem to care about most, jobs and the economy, he has done little. Four years and we are starting from scratch, well starting from scratch if you don't consider the trillions more that we are in debt. Don't know if Romney would have done any better, but Obama can hardly be called a turnaround expert.

Above, you assigned blame to Romney as an 'owner'. After four years, Obama 'owns' the current state of the economy as well as the current employment picture.

As for outsourcing jobs, Romney is a piker. Under Obama, more than a million jobs were sent overseas. As for holding China's feet to the fire on trade issues, the efforts of this administration have been minimal and the results non-existent.

Foreign policy? It's been a joke.

Geez, rat, reread a couple of your last posts. Have you been licking them toads or popping the shrooms again?

I'll let Deuce speak for himself. As for me, you have sorely misrepresented my position. Anyone who has read what I post here would know that, sans toads or shrooms of course. Were you knocking Romney's policies or character as is Rufus' wont or doing the same with Obama as is Bob's, I would have merely nodded my head and said, "Ah, another one gets it." The fact that you try to point out some relative positive about one by offering up some negative of the other merely makes me shake my head and say, "Ah, another benighted soul."

They are both dicks, similar in more ways than some think, and different in many ways. That being said they are two sides of the same coin. Their differences merely highlight their unique dickness but they are still equivalant and in my opinion objectionable. Just a couple examples. Romney, at least during this political season, has taken on the mantle of the supply-side, trickle downers, offering policies that have failed many times in the past. Obama, on the other hand, in practice has ascribed to the concept of the imperial presidency taking on Nixon's view that if the president does it, it can't be against the law. He has basically gutted the constitution. If there is any measurable difference in dickdom, IMO, the scales would have to dip towards Obama on this issue alone; however, Romney is bad enough that I still couldn't vote for him. These are just two examples. I could go on all afternoon expanding or offering additional examples.

With regard to the 'ownership' issue, I merely state the 'political' reality, the president is credited or blamed for much that he has no direct impact on. However, even Obama subscribes to my view for although he has constantly tried to shift blame and take credit where it is not due, the two most used words during Obama's presidency have been 'I' and 'Me'. The man is a congenital liar and an egoist with overwhelming delusions of glory.

As for telling you why I like Romney? Once again you are being obtuse. You assume that because I dislike Obama I must therefore like Romney. That is not a logical assumption.

Get back to me when you are off the toads and/or shrooms and we can talk.

News Flash: Obama IS a natural born citizen -

    Questioning

I suspect there is enough real evidence to support that 0bama is, in fact a Natural Born Citizen (Son-of-Davis) and is thus eligible for President. No, my issue isn't one of birth eligibility...

it is that there is sufficient evidence to show he is an unindicted FELON.

It is illegal to obtain identity documents using false (read, FELONY) Social Security Cards, Birth Certificates or Selective Service Cards. Further it is illegal to obtain and use a false Social Security Card and it is illegal to falsify Selective Service registration.

Yhe documentation produced to date by Barry 0bama, used in 2008 to obtain a passport, would have him in Federal Jail right now serving a 2 year mandatory sentence for breaking Federal Law; he'd be a FELON.

I think this is the first case of an American President who was a Felon upon entering office and not just one leaving office.

    Impeach Now.

    Obama, Who's Your Daddy?

Birther issue still has legs -

    http://www.americanthinker.com/2012/10/obama_whos_your_daddy.html

For the last four years, Barack Obama has been plagued by rumors that he is not a natural-born citizen of the United States and, as a result, is not eligible to serve as president. These rumors continue to show surprising resilience.

But what Berlinsky did in his polling was what the progressive defenders of the faith have always done: confused the birthplace question with other questions regarding Obama's eligibility to hold office. To many, the issue isn't where he was born. The question is, who is his father? And is Obama a natural born citizen, since his father was not a U.S. citizen?

Barack Hussein Obama has spent about two million dollars to keep the American people from taking a peek at his original long-form birth certificate. Nobody spends that kind of money unless there's something really damning he wants to hide.

In spite of all the posturing, courtroom drama, political maneuvers, endless obfuscation, and the frenzied production of yet another highly questionable birth certificate, fully half of the American people have doubts about President Obama's birth certificate and his eligibility to hold office. This is astonishing.

Pretty good little article if you are still interested in the topic.

    All the same questions remain.

In the minds of racist liberals the meaning of the word racism is meaningless. it’s been patently obvious recently that democrats, the mainstream media and the Obama campaign itself have been the ones to play the race card over and over. It

The Race Card is the refuge of a candidate that has nothing else to offer. We have an economy that is moving like molasses in December if indeed it is moving at all. In the meantime millions have dropped off the unemployment rolls. When the U6 is counted the unemployment/underemployment rate is closer to 15%. That is not sustainable.

You cannot continue to load taxes on those working in order to write a blank check and that is all Obama and his party know how to do. How many millions in stimulus money has simply gone down a rathole to Obama campaign contributors for bad ideas?

And here's the real secret, Obama is a Globalist. As such he views ALL AMERICANS as "the rich." He taxes the upper brackets directly in order to appease his base, but the rest of us are seeing rising cost of energy which impacts all goods and services regardless of income. What I used to buy at Krogers last year for $90 a week now costs $120 or more and it's continuing to rise. Obama can only reach his numbers by taxing the middle class. And that is exactly what he will do if reelected. Pair that with higher employment/insurance taxes and the unemployment numbers will rise. To say that all people are voting on is race is to ignore the real factors that are keeping people of all backgrounds, races and religions out of the game.

In the clip, Broun, who is a doctor, says that "as a scientist" he has found data that shows the earth is no older than 9,000 years and was created in six days. Mainstream scientific thought holds that the earth is 4.5 billion years old, give or take the odd millennia.

Broun also says that theories regarding the origins of the universe and evolution represent "lies to try and keep me and all the folk that were taught that from understanding that they need a saviour".

In a statement to the Athens Banner-Herald, Meredith Griffanti, a spokeswoman for the Republican congressman, said: "Dr Broun was speaking off the record to a large church group about his personal beliefs regarding religious issues."

But the comments may prove an embarrassment to some of his colleagues on the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology. The congressional body was already subjected to scrutiny over remarks made by another member, the Missouri House representative Todd Akin.
