COLLECTIVE MADNESS

“Soft despotism is a term coined by Alexis de Tocqueville describing the state into which a country overrun by "a network of small complicated rules" might degrade. Soft despotism is different from despotism (also called 'hard despotism') in the sense that it is not obvious to the people."

Democratic Congressman Compares GOP Health Care Attacks to Nazi 'Lies'

So much for the new era of political civility.
Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Tenn., compared Republican attacks on the health care overhaul to Nazi propaganda advanced by Joseph Goebbels that led to the Holocaust.
Cohen, who is Jewish, made the remarks to a mostly empty chamber on Tuesday night as he argued against a Republican bill to repeal the health care law.
"They don't like the truth so they summarily dismiss it," Cohen said. "They say it's a government takeover of health care, a big lie just like (Nazi propagandist Joseph) Goebbels."
"You say it enough, you repeat the lie, you repeat the lie, you repeat the lie, and eventually, people believe it. Like blood libel. That's the same kind of thing," he said.
Blood libel is a historically and false anti-Semitic charge that Jews killed Christian children to use their blood in religious rituals. Sarah Palin drew controversy for citing the term last week to defend herself against accusations on the left that her use of violent imagery helped incite the mass shootings.
"The Germans said enough about the Jews and people believed it, and you have the Holocaust," Cohen added in his remarks. "You tell a lie over and over again."
Cohen's spokesman did not return messages left on his office and cell phones.

This is the Holocaust you stupid bastard, Rep. Steve Cohen

  1. An ignoramus of the first order.

Comparing political tactics on a legislative bill to one of the greatest crimes of the twentieth century and comparing elected officials to vicious criminals is appallingly ignorant of history.

It is demagoguery, slanderous and evil. It trivializes the extermination of human beings.

Will we hear indignation and condemnation from all the usual suspects? We shall see.

    I fear that we won't.

And I dread that we will.

At the same time, I know we already have.

  5. And whatever fresh hell you're hatching I'd like to hang onto my newly sunny frame of mind for at least a little while longer.

    Thankyouverymuch.

  6. The Republicans are not NAZIs and the Democrats are not Communists.

There are no concentration camps dotting the Dakotas, as they did Siberia. There are no "reeducation" centers for political dissidents.

There are only Federal Socialists with slightly differing views of what Socialism in the US should look like and how it should function.

  11. Haley Approves Huge Salary Increases

So much for limited government …

With her state facing an estimated $1 billion budget shortfall, S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley handed out huge salary increases to top gubernatorial staffers on her first full day in office. She also doled out big salaries to newly-created positions within the governor’s office.

    Paying attention, Tea Partiers?
