COLLECTIVE MADNESS

“Soft despotism is a term coined by Alexis de Tocqueville describing the state into which a country overrun by "a network of small complicated rules" might degrade. Soft despotism is different from despotism (also called 'hard despotism') in the sense that it is not obvious to the people."

"An outrageous Act" of what Mr.President? A "tragic event?", "perpetrators brought to justice"?

Obama can't quite say the words "terrorism" or "Islamist" or "Jihad." Being an unlikely American President it is no surprise. Remember Clinton's War to Help Noble Kosovars from Nasty Serbs? The Islamic trash that killed the two young airman comes from Muslim parents from Kosovo, the real trash dump of Europe.

By the way, why do we still have troops at Lakenheath in England? I was last assigned there in 1968, twenty three years after WWII and forty three years ago! We need troops in England for 68 years?

Prosecutors in Germany say they suspect Islamic militancy as the motive for a gun attack on US airmen at Frankfurt Airport, in which two died.

The suspected gunman, who is in police custody, is of Kosovo Albanian origin.

He allegedly fired on an air force bus, killing the driver and another man, and injuring two others.

The dead men, who were based at RAF Lakenheath in eastern England, were not identified, pending notification to their families.

They had just flown in from Britain and were about to travel to the nearby US air base at Ramstein, a hub for operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

One airman with a gunshot wound to the head remained in critical condition at the Frankfurt University clinic on Thursday while the other injured man was not in a life-threatening condition, police said.

US President Barack Obama has condemned the shooting as an "outrageous act", and pledged to "ensure that all the perpetrators are brought to justice".

'Engaged in Holy War'

The suspect has been named as Arid Uka, 21, who is said to have been born in Germany to parents who moved there from Kosovo about 40 years ago.

He grew up in Germany and was apparently working at the airport.

Relatives in Kosovo were quoted by the Associated Press news agency as saying that he was a "devout Muslim".

According to German newspapers, he portrayed himself as an Islamist on the internet.

He saw "himself engaged in Holy War with infidels", according to Die Welt, while Frankfurter Allgemeine reports that there were rumours he had planned to embark on a "killing spree".

German police said the shooting appeared to have occurred inside the bus, and the attacker seemed to be acting alone.

The attack took place at roughly 1520 local time (1420 GMT) on Wednesday, just outside Terminal 2 in a bus lane open to the public.

Police believe the gunman used a pistol or revolver.

Four Islamic militants were convicted in March last year in Germany for plotting to bomb targets including Ramstein air base.

  1. Pope Benedict XVI has made a sweeping exoneration of the Jewish people for the death of Jesus Christ, tackling one of the most controversial issues in Christianity in a new book.

In "Jesus of Nazareth-Part II" excerpts released Wednesday, Benedict explains biblically and theologically why there is no basis in Scripture for the argument that the Jewish people as a whole were responsible for Jesus' death.

That's amazing. The Pope thinks he has the authority to exonerate innocent people for the actions of a few, 2000 years ago.

  5. FRANKFURT — German prosecutors said on Thursday that Islamic radicalism may have motivated a Kosovar to open fire on an American military bus at the Frankfurt airport, killing two United States airmen and wounding two others.

The suspect arrested at the scene was a 21-year-old who lives in Frankfurt, according to a police spokesman, Manfred Füllhardt. The police charged him with murder and attempted murder, but they did not rule out terrorism charges. He was expected to appear in German federal court on Thursday.

“The circumstances raise suspicion that the attack had an Islamic motivation,” the federal prosecutor’s office in Karsruhe, Germany, said in a statement Thursday.

It has nothing to do with Jews and everything to do with the fallacious collectivist impulse. The Jews have no racial or ethnic guilt for "killing Christ" and it follows that the Pope has no standing to "exonerate" them. To go along with that notion is to affirm the false premise.

When I was 16, I got a girlfriend with big tits, but there was no passion, so I decided I needed a passionate girl with zest for life.

In college I dated a passionate girl, but she was too emotional. Everything was an emergency; she was a drama queen, cried all the time and threatened suicide. So I decided I needed a girl with stability.

When I was 25, I found a very stable girl but she was boring. She was totally predictable and never got excited about anything. Life became so dull that I decided that I needed a girl with some excitement.

When I was 28, I found an exciting girl, but I couldn't keep up with her. She rushed from one thing to another, never settling on anything. She did mad impetuous things and made me miserable as often as happy. She was great fun initially and very energetic, but directionless. So I decided to find a girl with some real ambition.

When I turned 30, I found a smart ambitious girl with her feet planted firmly on the ground, so I married her. She was so ambitious that she divorced me and took everything I owned.

I am older and wiser now, and I am looking for a girl with big tits

  57. Not at all, ash.

GM went bankrupt, yet remained a viable institution throughout the process.

There are many types of bankruptcy were the debtor remains in control of the assets, while liquidating many of those assets, during what is referred to as "Restructuring".

The ultimate outcome of the restructuring is an unknown at the beginning of the process.

Myself, I think the Federals are in a cash flow crisis, of their own choosing.

    ReplyDelete
  58. If a company goes bankrupt they are deemed financially insolvent - their assets are less then their liabilities. The company is wound down and the debtors 'take a haircut'. Sometimes a new entity emerges from a bankruptcy but it is a new entity.

I don't believe GM went bankrupt. They did seek protection under Chapter 11 which is a different kettle of fish.

In short the government is not bankrupt. They may choose to default on their debts but they have many assets - the taxpayers being one big one.

This meme of selling off assets to covering operating shortfalls is, in my opinion, mainly an excuse for politicians to feign fiscal prudence when in reality they are not address the structural problems. There is utility in selling off unused assets such as those unused federal buildings but the gain from those sales does not address the problems of too low revenue and too high an expenditure. True the cost of maintaining those under performing assets will be eliminated, which is a good thing, but that is a far cry from selling off assets that generate a profit to present a balanced budget in a current year. The national forests may be a net liability on the balance sheet but that alone is not reason to sell.

A restructuring of the operations combined with a shedding of assets/liabilities, depending upon one's perspective of value of the Pontiac brand name.

The Federal Government is in dire need of restructuring.
    It's priorities are askew.
It's power needing, in need of being restrained.

It has done a poor job of managing the assets it has acquired, a majority of those assets should be privatized, taken from the Federal Socialists and brought to the Capitalist Way.

  64. heh heh, no problem Gag.

Yes Rat, I agree a restructuring is in order. Increasing revenues AND cutting expenses is a good place to start. Selling some under performing assets would also be advisable but selling off national forests for short term gain doesn't strike me as a prudent policy especially given that politicians will trumpet their balanced budgets based on asset sales which will further dig a structural hole. Liquidation isn't good policy but rather operational cash flows should be more important though even then I'd say short term deficits can be useful. Unfortunately the deficit in bad times followed by pay downs in good times have become (always have been?) deficits all the time.
