COLLECTIVE MADNESS

“Soft despotism is a term coined by Alexis de Tocqueville describing the state into which a country overrun by "a network of small complicated rules" might degrade. Soft despotism is different from despotism (also called 'hard despotism') in the sense that it is not obvious to the people."

    1. I never said he was a "Great" leader; just that he was better than most of the Republicans.

For instance, this wouldn't have been possible under the most of the pubs:

E85 for $2.39 all over Iowa

Palestinian savages attempt to plant bombs at shopping mall for Jewish New Year.

Stated: Shin Bet foils Hamas bomb attack planned for Jerusalem mall

Security forces led by the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) announced Sunday that they had foiled a bomb attack being plotted by Hamas militants in the West Bank and east Jerusalem, which targeted a popular Jerusalem shopping mall during the upcoming Jewish High Holidays.

The Jerusalem District Attorney’s Office has filed an indictment with the Jerusalem District Court against two of those allegedly involved in the plot - Ahmad Rishak, 23, from Shuafat and Ismail Abu Mfalfal, 27, from Abu Dis.

They were both charged with conspiracy to aid the enemy during wartime, and the attempted manufacture of a weapon.

The two and other alleged Hamas members from Ramallah and Jerusalem were in the advanced planning stages of the terrorism plot, the Shin Bet said. The agency said the group was led by 22-year-old Ramallah resident Hamdi Romana and targeted the Mamilla open-air mall in central Jerusalem.

During the investigation, which included assistance from the Israel Defense Forces and the Israel Police, security forces uncovered an explosives lab in Romana's home in Ramallah, as well instruction manuals on how to bomb construction, the Shin Bet said.
Romana confessed to being in contact with three residents of the Ramallah area who provided him with bomb-making equipment. The three men were also arrested and have confessed, security forces said.

Around March, Romana went on to recruit Rishak and Mfalfal for the plot, and, taking advantage of their Israeli ID cards, ordered them to smuggle the bomb into Israel, the Shin Bet and the indictment indicated.

Rishak was recruited first, and on orders from Romana, Rishak eventually recruited Mfalfal, the indictment said.

The indictment claims that Mfalfal assisted with several aspects of the plot, including providing around 40 iron balls to include in the device to increase the number of potential casualties.

The two men, who were employed as maintenance workers in the Mamilla mall, were supposed to smuggle the bomb into the shopping center and hide it in a closet.

Following multiple meetings in July, the men were ordered to and to disguise the explosive device with wrapping paper to make it look like a gift, and plant it in a restaurant, store or trash can during one of the upcoming Jewish holiday, when the mall would be packed with shoppers.

"During questioning, members of the terror cell mentioned other initial plans to carry out additional attacks, including harming IDF soldiers by booby trapping homes in Ramallah, manufacturing and firing rockets at Israeli communities near Ramallah, and attempts to get hold of handguns to fire on IDF soldiers at the Hezma roadblock, northeast of Jerusalem," the Shin Bet said.

Something is wrong with that article. It was supposed to say "Palestinian community activists".

Authorities at the Suez Canal in Egypt said they dodged an attempted terror attack on the vital waterway Saturday.

The head of the Suez Canal Authority said a terrorist had tried to damage a Panama-flagged ship, but “failed completely.”

“One of the terrorist elements has carried out a failed attempt to affect the movement of ships in the Suez Canal by targeting one of the passing ships, Cosco Asia,” Mohab Memish said in a statement Saturday. He did not elaborate as to what the attack entailed.

      In other news:

Earlier in the day, Egyptian forces arrested one of the top wanted militants in the Sinai, on suspicion of involvement in the killing of 25 off-duty policemen in the peninsula last month.

Adel Mohammed, also known as Adel Habara according to one official, had already been sentenced to death in absentia for killing soldiers in the Nile Delta last year. He is said to be linked to al-Qaeda.

In March, Egyptian daily al-Ahram reported that an Iranian plot to blow up an Israeli ship in the port had been foiled.

  7. President Obama and Vice-President Biden held a rare press event Saturday in the Rose Garden to address the escalating tensions with Syria. BREITBART: President Obama said he was convinced Syrian President Bashir Assad had ordered a chemical weapon attack on his citizens and that the US, and the world community, must act in response. Obama called on Congress to authorize a military attack against Syria. A new foreign policy crisis now faces the US. After the press event, Obama and Biden went golfing.

  8. Testimony from victims strongly suggests it was the rebels, not the Syrian government, that used Sarin nerve gas during a recent incident in the revolution-wracked nation, a senior U.N. diplomat said.

But Kerry says the evidence from social media is a slam dunk.
