COLLECTIVE MADNESS

“Soft despotism is a term coined by Alexis de Tocqueville describing the state into which a country overrun by "a network of small complicated rules" might degrade. Soft despotism is different from despotism (also called 'hard despotism') in the sense that it is not obvious to the people."

The arrogance, incompetence, and ignorance of the elites was a major factor in pushing people to vote to leave the EU

  2. Britons grew tired of laws dictating the natural shape of fruits, preventing diabetics from driving cars, restricting bottle labels from claiming that water is “hydrating” and banning high-powered vacuum cleaners.

Brexit was a vote against the political establishment, in frustration at stagnant economic growth and income, in favor of more local strength in the global economy, and, ultimately, to free the British people.

But to progressives, history has been shattered. It won’t be long before they abandon their use for democracy altogether.

  4. EU 'WILDFIRE': Austria warns Europe of impending breakup after 'dramatic' migrant mistakes

EUROPE’S failure to address fears over the migrant crisis were the driving force behind Britain’s Brexit - and the damage may not be over yet, an Austrian minister has claimed.d

Austria’s Foreign Affairs and Integration chief Sebastian Kurz has joined a growing list of foreign officials urging Union bosses to act or face the fall of the entire Union.

Mr Kurz believes the EU’s inability to correctly handle the migrant crisis which saw borders opening and closing at an alarming rate amid the deaths of thousands of refugees, led to Britons voting out of the EU on June 23.

He also repeated a previous warning that Jean Claude Juncker and others must address the key issue of migration or face failure, stating it is “obvious” who was at fault for Brexit.

  5. Even if, in coming years, Scotland secedes from the UK in order to rejoin the EU, that will cost the United Kingdom only 8 percent of its population (even if a higher percent of its castles, Loch Ness monsters, and men in skirts). Admittedly, the UK’s ability to sustain nuclear forces could be challenged without access to Scottish ports — but those nuclear weapons, with all due respect to British friends, aren’t really crucial pillars of today’s global order in any event.

    ...

To be sure, one can always find some hypothetical scenario in which having the UK outside of the European Union complicates life. To be sure, pulling out will make life temporarily harder for British and European diplomats and bureaucrats as they fashion a revised European order.

And most of all, it is true that we need to take seriously the skepticism about globalization that UK voters have just voiced in a powerful and emphatic way. But the postwar global order is hardly falling apart.

    This Hidden Fact Predicts Terrorism

What turns people to terrorism isn't as mysterious as the media would like us to believe.

    June 30, 2016

    Ann Coulter

How'd you like to be running a presidential campaign dependent on Muslims not acting up again between now and Nov. 8? It's getting awfully hard for the media to keep being indignant about Trump's proposed Muslim ban, as long as Muslims keep blowing things up and shooting people.

I'm assuming here that The Washington Post has not already ruled the Muslims who blew up the Istanbul Airport to be self-hating gays infected by America's culture of homophobia.

It turns out, Omar Mateen, the Orlando nightclub shooter, also wasn't a self-hating gay, despite media excitement over that rumor. The FBI has now run down every alleged gay partner of Omar's, searched his phone and computers, and the alleged gay lovers either had the wrong guy or were lying, and there's no evidence he was on any gay websites or apps.

As a Muslim immigrant explained in a curbside interview videotaped by Tony Vera at the Los Angeles International Airport recently -- before she was arrested -- "that's what we do, we bomb people."

With impeccable timing, three days before the Istanbul bombing, the liberal Guardian (UK) ran an article sneering at Brexit supporters for wanting out of the European Union before Turkey became a member and the door was thrown open to unlimited migration from this Muslim country that shares a border with Syria, Iraq and Iran.

The article by Liz Cookman was titled, "Turkey, the Brexit bogeyman, is not so different from the UK."

Liz had a lot of fun with the Brexit-supporting ninnies, so relieved that "the Turks are no longer coming." She referred to Turkey as "the country whose people Britons are apparently petrified of," despite the fact that "it turns out Britain and Turkey are not so different after all."

    1. One way they're a little different is that Britain has fewer Muslims on hand to blow things up. The attack this Tuesday, which left dozens dead and more than 100 wounded, is the seventh major terrorist bombing in Turkey so far this year, with a total death count in the hundreds.

As with the British media, the American media keep telling us that all these Muslim terrorist attacks have nothing to do with Muslims, and Donald Trump's suggestion that we impose a temporary moratorium on Muslim immigration is madness, bigoted, racist.

Thank God Hitler didn't claim "Mein Kampf" was a holy book and the Fuhrerbunker a mosque.

Western governments have devoted incalculable resources to developing some diagnostic test other than "Muslim" to predict terrorism. As the New York Times reported earlier this year:

"What turns people toward violence -- and whether they can be steered away from it -- are questions that have bedeviled governments around the world for generations. Those questions have taken on fresh urgency with the rise of the Islamic State and the string of attacks in Europe and the United States. Despite millions of dollars of government-sponsored research, and a much-publicized White House pledge to find answers, there is still nothing close to a consensus on why someone becomes a terrorist."

      I have a possible indicator! M-U-S-L- ...

After the July 7, 2005, London subway bombing by Muslim terrorists that killed 52 people, the British MI5 undertook its own highly sophisticated study, examining hundreds of cases. But the UK's security agency discovered that terrorists are a wildly diverse lot. They worshipped at a variety of different mosques, for example.

Some terrorists were very religious Muslims and some barely practicing. Most were men, but some were women. There were young and old terrorists, highly educated as well as uneducated, some loners and some married with children.

So, according to MI5, the predictive power of every factor is very low -- other than: Is a Muslim.

The researchers claimed their work would "challenge the stereotypes" about who becomes a terrorist, but it pretty much confirmed mine.

Republicans who are furious with Trump for proposing that we hit the pause button on this one category of Third World mass immigration have nothing at all to say about the census report this week showing Teddy Kennedy's 1965 immigration act has so transformed the country that a majority of babies born in the United States today are not white.

The only thing Republicans can do is denounce Obama for not using the words "radical Islamic terrorism." (As long as they brought up Words Politicians Refuse to Use, when will the eunuchs work up the nerve to say "illegal alien," "anchor baby" and "amnesty"?)

Obama is a hapless fool, but what is so special about the words "radical Islam"? Maybe it's not radical Islam. Maybe it's just "Islam."

The reason Republicans obsess over Obama's language is that they can't go on TV and say nothing, and no one but Trump will say anything useful. To wit: Let's stop dumping a million Muslim immigrants on the country every year, some percentage of whom we know will commit mass murder.

Word is Obama will soon provide the 'official' body count on civilians killed in drone strikes. Well, kinda.

    http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/us-to-reveal-drones%E2%80%99-civilian-toll/ar-AAhN2mK?li=BBmkt5R&ocid=spartandhp

WASHINGTON — Not long after a U.S. drone strike killed his brother-in-law and a nephew in a village in central Yemen, Faisal bin Ali Jaber received a phone call from a Yemeni government official.
The man invited the engineer to Sanaa, the capital, to discuss why a drone had targeted and killed five men meeting under a palm tree in Khashamir after dark on Aug. 29, 2012.

Jaber appeared at the government building, but he was given no explanation or apology. Instead he was handed a plastic bag with $100,000 in sequentially marked $100 bills, he said — a relative fortune in the Arab world’s poorest country.

“They told me, ‘We are not authorized to tell you where this money came from, but take it,’” Jaber, 58, said via an Arabic interpreter in a phone interview from Montreal, where he now lives. “I knew it must be the American government, so I wondered, ‘Why they would do this? Why would they pay this blood money in secret?’”

President Barack Obama is expected to disclose as early as Friday that U.S. military and CIA drone strikes inadvertently have killed about 100 civilians since 2009 in countries where the United States is not officially at war, according to U.S. officials who were not authorized to speak publicly.

The long-awaited report focuses on the so-called shadow wars in Yemen, Pakistan, Libya and Somalia and only during Obama’s tenure. It covers about 500 drone attacks in all.

The tally does not include civilian casualties for Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan, where U.S. forces have launched thousands of air attacks as part of wars and where the Pentagon formally investigates allegations of civilian deaths.

Obama plans to issue an executive order that would call on his successor to annually disclose the number of civilians killed in drone strikes, officials said, a goal he announced in 2013 but met only in his last year in office.

He also is expected to disclose parts of the classified legal framework behind the drone program. Known as the Presidential Policy Guidance, it sets legal standards for deciding whom to kill, where and under what circumstances.

“It has been a long road to get this information out there,” one U.S. official said. “There have been concerns from nearly every agency within the government on what to reveal and fears about revealing too much.”

The official tally is far lower than the death toll claimed by human rights and other groups that monitor America’s growing use of combat drones. Their estimates range from 200 to more than 1,000.
“The White House’s accounting of civilian casualties is unlikely to be worth the paper it’s printed on,” said Jennifer Gibson, an attorney at Reprieve, a human rights and advocacy group based in London. The group says local news reports, interviews and other sources suggest drones have killed at least 1,147 civilians.

“We need real transparency from this president — not just numbers, but the definition of who counts as a civilian, the rules for taking such strikes and the procedures for investigating mistakes afterwards,” Gibson said...

Obama promised greater transparency and oversight on drone strikes in a May 2013 speech at National Defense University. It marked a shift for Obama, who had vastly expanded the targeted-killing program begun by his predecessor, George W. Bush.

“Unless we discipline our thinking and our actions, we may be drawn into more wars we don’t need to fight, or continue to grant presidents unbound powers more suited for traditional armed conflicts between nation states,” he said at the time.

Until now, the administration has provided few details of how the drone program is structured, what legal restrictions apply, and what oversight or accountability is involved. The Pentagon has acknowledged only a few civilian deaths.

Officials argue that combat drones, which typically are piloted from Creech Air Force Base in Nevada, allow policymakers a way to target terrorists or other potential enemies without involving U.S. ground troops.

They say drones are less likely to cause civilian casualties than manned aircraft, because they can watch a potential target for months.

The CIA, the Air Force and Pentagon’s Joint Special Operations Command fly combat drones. All are required to assess potential civilian casualties before firing a missile, with a sliding scale of what is permitted, officials said.

The U.S. will accept the risk of several civilian casualties when attacking a senior militant leader..., for example, but a single civilian death could be considered excessive if the militant killed poses no threat.

The varying numbers, called the noncombatant casualty cutoff value, are secret and are approved by the president or the defense secretary.

The military and CIA use software simulation programs to project the likelihood of causing innocent deaths. These simulations are then added to a computer-generated map to predict whether a missile blast could hurl fiery debris into a home or onto a roof.

Yet the limits of U.S. intelligence and remote-controlled air attacks have been visible for years. At least eight Americans have been killed by drone attacks, for example, but only one — Anwar al-Awlaki, an al-Qaida leader in Yemen — was specifically targeted.

      T. Mark McCurley, a retired drone pilot who commanded an MQ-1 Predator squadron, said releasing civilian casualty numbers is not “necessarily a good choice,” considering “there is no standard methodology for counting the dead.”

Until recently, the Obama administration admitted only a handful of civilian deaths because officials counted any military-age male killed as combatants unless evidence showed they were not after the fact, according to former military and intelligence officials.

The White House is not expected to release names, geographic locations or dates of civilians killed. It thus will be difficult to check the government’s data against those collected by independent groups.

Most of those killed die in relative anonymity. After the 2012 airstrike in Yemen, however, Reprieve, the British group, helped Jaber, the engineer, sue the U.S. government for wrongful death.

The lawsuit was dismissed this year.

Jaber said he thinks his brother-in-law, Salem, a Muslim imam, and his nephew, Waleed, a police officer, were mistakenly targeted.

Jaber said Salem had given a sermon in Khashamir to denounce al-Qaida’s ideology. Days later, he met several men who came to the village, and brought Waleed in case anything went wrong.
Four missiles exploded as they talked under a palm tree. Jaber believes the visitors were al-Qaida members, and his family was collateral damage.

“The American government says it will provide transparency into the drone program,” Jaber said. “The fact is innocent people don’t want to die, whether or not the government provides transparency.”

More on those hearings here: Ted Cruz Hearings Obama’s Cover-up of Islamic Terror

It took ten years — better late than never. Ted Cruz is a one-man army. It is illustrative of how they sanction and support the jihad cause. But years from now, when historians study the infiltration and takedown of individual rights and freedoms in accordance with the sharia, these hearings will be crucial to their research....

    1. Witness at Cruz hearing correctly accuses Muslim congressmen of Muslim Brotherhood ties, media in uproar

June 29, 2016 12:07 pm By Robert Spencer 33 Comments

“Allegations that Ellison and Carson are secret Muslim agents with extremist leanings are usually found among fringe groups online, often discussed in dire tones on poorly designed websites. Rarely, if ever, do such sentiments get read into congressional testimony, with the imprimatur that offers.”

The media elites’ scorn for the unwashed masses is brimming over in this article: “fringe groups” who speak in “dire tones” on “poorly designed websites” couldn’t possibly be saying anything true or accurate, right? If your website design is poor, what you’re saying must ipso facto be false — not to mention “bigoted” and “Islamophobic”! And Ellison and Carson are not “secret Muslim agents with extremist leanings.” They’re just careless about appearing before groups with ties to Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood — and why should they care, when the mainstream media so eagerly runs interference for them instead of calling them to account?

But this really shouldn’t be so hard, even for a blinkered Leftist propagandist like Sam Stein of the HuffPo. He quotes Faryal Khatri of ISNA saying: “I can definitely tell you we are not Muslim Brotherhood. We are not affiliated with them at all and never were. That much I can reassure you.” But he doesn’t tell his hapless readers that ISNA has actually admitted its ties to Hamas, which styles itself the Palestinian arm of the Muslim Brotherhood. Nor does he bother to note that it wasn’t “fringe websites” or Frank Gaffney or Ted Cruz who identified ISNA as a Muslim Brotherhood front group; this designation comes from the United States Department of Justice, which classified ISNA among entities “who are and/or were members of the US Muslim Brotherhood.”

There is still more that Stein failed to notice in his haste to excoriate Cruz for “Islamophobia” and association with “poorly designed websites”: in 2008 Ellison accepted $13,350 from the Muslim American Society (MAS) to go on a pilgrimage to Mecca. The Muslim American Society is a Muslim Brotherhood organization: “In recent years, the U.S. Brotherhood operated under the name Muslim American Society, according to documents and interviews. One of the nation’s major Islamic groups, it was incorporated in Illinois in 1993 after a contentious debate among Brotherhood members.” That’s from the Chicago Tribune in 2004, in an article that is now carried on the Muslim Brotherhood’s English-language website, Ikhwanweb.....

(And on and on too long to quote)

    Hillary’s coterie of anti-Semites

    By G. Murphy Donovan

Hillary Clinton has a lot going for her in 2016. Among her primary assets we might list genitals (aka “first woman”), Bill’s and Barack’s coattails, pastel pant suits, felons, feminists, plus sizes, dependents, gender benders, hyphenated minorities, and anti-Semites. Mrs. Clinton doesn’t have much in the way of achievements, but she does have a grab bag of constituents, a checkered past, and a righteous resume.

Alas, like husband Bill, her history, no matter how shady, doesn’t seem to matter. Indeed, Hillary may go in the books as the second no-fault presidential candidate in American history. Her resume, indeed, is an artfully contrived vitae where election, appointment, or position has hip-checked character, failure, and achievement deficits out of the public square.

Nevertheless, Hillary’s coterie of anti-Semites is a unique group that provides a window on probable foreign policy vectors of another Clinton presidency. Three of the more notorious American Jew haters have been flagged by their appointment to the 2016 Democrat Platform Committee.

    Mohammad by Salvatore Dali

In order of descending importance they are: Arabist James Zogby, Princeton pedant Cornel West, and Congressman Keith Ellison, representing the Minnesota caliphate. On paper, all three are supposed to be Sanders’s delegates. Yet, their mere presence in Democrat inner circles says all that needs to be said about the American Left, Islamophiles, and attitudes towards Jews and Israel.

    James Zogby

James Zogby, the Arab lobbyist, is not to be confused with John Zogby the pollster. The two are, in some respects, in the same business. Still, they are not the same person. Although, they are family; literal and liberal Lebanese Arab brothers with common interests.

James made a career in the “non-profit” rackets, mainly Arab American advocacy groups like Arab American Institute and the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee. The AAI is the “political and policy research arm of the Arab-American community.” The emphasis here is clearly on the adjective. Both brothers are good examples of the hyphenated politics that balkanize the American left.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. James Zogby served with the Gore and Obama campaigns and he is a visiting professor at NYU, Abu Dhabi campus. The elder Zogby is also a member of the executive committee of the Democratic Party. James Zogby’s anti-Israel credentials include rabid support for terrorist Hezb’allah, frequent condemnations of Israel, and characterizations of Jews as “Nazis.”

James Zogby makes the top of the DNC anti-Semite list because between him and his brother, they are capable of spinning news, opinion, and any associated Arab, Muslim, or jihad propaganda.

      Cornel West

Other than Louis Farrakhan at the Nation of Islam, Professor Cornel West of Princeton might be the signal anti-Semitic role model in black America. West brings academic gravitas to the role. On the one hand, West plays the home boy race card with effect, at the same time vilifying Jews for “occupation and annihilation.”

West’s favorite media stooge is Tavis Smiley of PBS. Professor West and Smiley are often seen as an Islamophilia tag team, apologizing for Muslims on the public dime. Anti-Semitism is now a prominent feature of black American culture nationwide. Professor West and Smiley count Louis Farrakhan, NOI high priest, unapologetic misogynist, and Jew hater, as a touchstone in skin game circles.

Up at Harvard, Professor Louis Gates is a study in contrast. Gates uses his academic chops honestly, recognizing the role of black Africans and Muslims in historical and contemporary slavery. Boko Haram takes a bow here. Gates also recognizes the corrosive effects of epidemic anti-Semitism among blacks in America. Legit scholars like Louis Gates, needless to say, play no role in the DNC “diversity” mix on the 2016 Platform Committee.

      Keith Ellison

Keith Ellison is the American face of stealth Jihad and another “first” phenomenon on two counts. He is the first black and the first Muslim congressman from Minnesota. Keith is also a converso, a former Catholic, like Lew Alcindor, converted to Islam when black rage and Islam was hip. Congressman Ellison is most famous for taking his oath of office from Nancy Pelosi in Washington on a Koran.

Ellison has been cagey about his conversion, but his ties to the Nation of Islam and Louis Farrakhan are matters of record. He has written in support of Farrakhan on more than one occasion under a pseudonym. Ellison also has extensive personal, political, and financial ties to the American Muslim jihad net through such organizations as Council on American Islamic Relations, Muslim American Society, Islamic Society of North America, Muslim public Affairs Council, North American Imams Federation, and the notorious Saudi funded American Open University in Virginia, a kind of seminary for Muslim clerics.

Former AOU chairman Ja’far Sheikh Idris considers American democracy to be “the antithesis of Islam.” He also claims that no one “can be a Muslim who makes or freely accepts or believes that anyone has the right to make or accept legislation that is contrary to divine (Islamic) law.”

If the telltales on the DNC Platform Committee say anything, Hillary Clinton, like her husband and Barack Obama, is unlikely to do anything about growing anti-Semitism at home or the Arab/Muslim tilt abroad.

Most American Jews, ironically, already lean left. Likewise, black America is a veritable liberal or Democratic Party plantation. When irredentist Muslims are thrown into the mix, the stew in “progressive” America becomes a critical mass of anti- Israel, anti-Jew bigotry....
