COLLECTIVE MADNESS

“Soft despotism is a term coined by Alexis de Tocqueville describing the state into which a country overrun by "a network of small complicated rules" might degrade. Soft despotism is different from despotism (also called 'hard despotism') in the sense that it is not obvious to the people."

Keynesian Ideas to Kickstart the Economy

Cherry-picked from Business Insider

 1. Political Car Bashing Event - We'll have all senators and state representatives bring the cars in their household to Washington, where individuals can take free swings with a baseball bat. Call’em Porsche piƱatas. With 100 senators and 435 state representatives, you’d have 1600 vehicles at a minimum. Besides economic stimulus, the electorate could let off some steam. It would be better than cash for clunkers – it would be the bash for flunkers.

 2. Little Rascals Day - We'll give American children a bucket of baseballs and eight hours to break as many windows as possible - a national event with no spankings, groundings, or consequences. Let them loose on cars, houses, whatever. Think of all the fun in the neighborhoods. Red houses, blue houses, yellow houses. They could start with the White House.

3. The E-Party - We can develop a clay pigeon iPhone app and finally give the gun-totin’ Palin-lovin’ domestic militiamen something to shoot at. We can call it the E-Party against smartphones.

Or we can do as Krugman suggests, and have the Fed snatch up all the Treasury debt that is unloaded by China, since the whole setup is a self-licking ice cream cone anyway. We might even enjoy it.

We are in uncharted water at this point. The Fed has never had to deal with a problem of this magnitude and character; moreover, history offers few putative precedents for auguring.

Gold was tightly held and in its stead paper currency became the means of exchange. As I recall, because gold was not held equitably, paper currencies were forced to freely float. Without doubt I need to review the material..

  5. What makes U.S. health care so overpriced? It’s not what you think

U.S. medical care is getting ever pricier, but it’s not because so many old people are running up charges, experts reported Tuesday. Most of the money’s being spent on people under 65 with chronic conditions like diabetes and heart disease.

And even though the U.S. spends $2.7 trillion a year, nearly 18 percent of gross domestic product (GDP), on health care, it’s not keeping up with the rest of the developed world when it comes to improving people’s health.

“It does show pretty clearly that price is the culprit here,” Dr. Hamilton Moses of the Alerion Institute in Virginia and Johns Hopkins University told reporters.

“Based on this review…the U.S. ‘system’ has performed relatively poorly,” Moses and colleagues wrote in the report, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association. Their findings echo what other experts have found – U.S. health care gives little value for the money.

One big problem is that people have no idea what they are paying for health care services, so traditional free market forces cannot act to keep costs down. “This is not a market. It’s far from a market. Few prices are known. They are not publicized,” Moses says.

The perception is that a bigger proportion of the population is getting old and sick, and using more and more services. But Moses and colleagues say their review didn’t show that.

“In 2011, chronic illnesses account for 84 percent of costs overall among the entire population, not only of the elderly. Chronic illness among individuals younger than 65 years accounts for 67 percent of spending,” they found.

“Price of professional services, drugs and devices, and administrative costs, not demand for services or aging of the population, produced 91 percent of cost increases since 2000.”

    1. And while some opponents of health care reform have been saying the U.S. health care system is the best in the world, the statistics don’t support that.

U.S. life expectancy is getting longer, but it’s lagging behind the longer lifespans enjoyed by people in most of western Europe and Japan. And there are huge disparities across the country, with people in states like Mississippi considerably less healthy than people in Colorado or New York City.

Moses points to a very big culprit – the standard fee-for-service system that encourages doctors and other caregivers to give lots of tests, individual treatments and to prescribe drugs, instead of keeping patients well. It’s not a new idea, but Moses says his team’s study shows it very clearly.

“This is a very myopic country,” he said. “There are lessons to be learned from other countries. Chronic illness is where the misery is, it is where the money is and it is where the greatest opportunity lies.”

Moses and his team deliberately did not look at some of the changes outlined in the 2010 Affordable Care Act, widely known as Obamacare. Moses said some of the issues have become too politicized. But the law does try to encourage hospitals and caregivers to move away from a system that pays for individual procedures to one that rewards for keeping patients well.

More could and should be done, Moses says, to encourage better care of people with heart disease, diabetes and cancer.

“It’s the partisanship that’s perhaps standing in the way,” he said.

Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, a former Obama administration health adviser who now heads a health policy center at the University of Pennsylvania, agrees that focusing on patients with chronic illnesses is the way to save money. “Preventing them from getting sicker is going to be the most important thing we can do to save costs,” he told the news conference.

That might include a system that encourages home visits, since hospital visits are so expensive, he added. “(Patients) like it better and it’s cheaper," Emanuel said.

    1. Modern-day slavery widespread in India

India is home to some 14 million modern-day slaves, nearly half the total worldwide, according to a newly compiled index. Experts say more aggressive laws need to be passed and enforced to tackle this 'shameful' issue.

      Half of the world's slaves

The newly released "Global Slavery Index," published on October 18 by the Walk Free Foundation, lists India as the country with by far the most "modern slaves" worldwide, with an estimated nearly 14 million, followed by China (2.9 million) and Pakistan (2.1 million). According to the Australia-based organization, India exhibits "the full spectrum of different forms of modern slavery," ranging from severe forms of inter-generational bonded labor to forced and servile marriage, the worst forms of child labor and commercial sexual exploitation.

A recent report by the US State Department states that India has also become a destination and transit country for sex trafficking, with an ever-growing number of job placement agencies luring adults and children under false promises of employment. The 2013 Trafficking in Persons Report cites accounts of women and girls from northeastern states and Odisha being sold or coerced into forced marriages in states with skewed gender ratios, some of whom were "subsequently forced into prostitution or labor by their new families."

    3. More from India, world leader in slavery ...

Despite being banned by the Supreme Court in 2006, child labour continues to be widespread due to weak enforcement. The 2001 Census says India has 12.26 million working children, aged 5-14, with the maximum coming from Uttar Pradesh.

Child and forced marriage, predominantly of trafficked girls, is another grave form of exploitation which, according to the 2013 India Country Assessment Report released by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes (UNODC), is prevalent mainly in Haryana, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. “With skewed sex ratios it is impossible to find a bride for each man, and ‘importing a bride’ has become the only solution,” said the UNODC report. Punjab (893 females per 1000 males) and Haryana (877 females per 1000 males) have the lowest sex ratios in the country.

Ruchira Gupta, president, Apne Aap Women Worldwide, an NGO that fights sex trafficking, is not surprised by the data. “South Asia is the epicentre of bonded labourers and slaves. But the issue does not get priority because its victims are considered disposable,” she said. The need for stricter laws, be it to prosecute abusive employers or punish traffickers is the need of the hour.

  19. Prince Charles is not amused and is aiming his royal displeasure at Britain's big food stores.

The heir to the British throne slammed supermarket chains on Wednesday for squeezing farmers' incomes by taking "none of the risk."

A day before his 65th birthday, the future king guest-edited Country Life, the 116-year-old weekly magazine about farming and country living. He wrote an impassioned editorial about Britain's struggling farming industry, which he said was facing some of its "toughest challenges."

"Small farmers find themselves in the iniquitous position of taking the biggest risk, often acting as the buffer for the retailer and consumer against all the economic uncertainties of producing food, but receiving the least return," the prince of Wales wrote.

"It cannot be right that a typical hill farmer earns just £12,600 ($20,133) with some surviving on as little as £8,000 ($12,783) a year, whilst the big retailers and their shareholders do so much better out of the deal, having taken none of the risk."

Britain's food retail is dominated by the four big players - Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's and Morrisons. The British Retail Consortium, which represents these supermarkets, said retailers were confident their investment in the food chain meant a strong future for farmers, and that a "high proportion" of supermarket food would continue to be sourced at home.

The prince, who is an avid organic farmer on his country estate, said the current system squeezes farm incomes, meaning that many small and medium-sized farms could not afford to make crucial long-term reinvestment.

"I fear this will create huge problems in the near future, especially in the dairy sector," he added.

Agriculture accounts for 0.7 percent of Britain's gross domestic product, contributing around £26 billion ($41.5 billion) a year to the economy, according to the Office for National Statistics. Output in the sector increased by 1.4 percent in the third quarter of 2013 from the second, but fell 1.6 percent when compared with the same period in 2012.

Prince Charles is a large landowner and has long been a supporter of protecting Britain's countryside, which he described in Country Life as "the unacknowledged backbone of our national identity." His private estate, the Duchy of Cornwall, consists of over 53,000 hectares (130,000 acres) of land and includes an organic farm.

    Slavery in India

The history of slavery in India is complicated by the absence of factors which relate to the definition, ideological and religious perceptions, difficulties in obtaining and interpreting written sources, and perceptions of political impact of interpretations of written sources.[1] If current scholarly interpretations of various literary sources are accepted, then slavery as forced appropriation of labour, skill or sexual gratification appears to have existed in various forms from the pre-500 BCE period, though never as a legitimate and generally acceptable widespread practice. Historical consensus points to an intensification of slavery under India's Islamic period.[2][3][4][5][6] For instance, K. S. Lal discussed in his work "Muslim Slave System in Medieval India" the import of African slaves to India by Muslims through the Middle East, a trade never undertaken by India's indigenous religions due to limited contact with Africa. Caste system under the Hindus cannot be equated with slavery, as in slavery purity-pollution norms were not observed. In ancient Rig-Veda three types of slavery are mentioned, which suggests that slavery was present in pre-Islamic India.[7] Often, claims about slavery in India, and the sources they are based on, need to be analysed with special attention to context. Some modern scholars appear to treat most claims of slavery by Persian or Arabic chroniclers as propaganda or exaggeration for military and political glorification, whereas similar arguments are not applied to the textual claims of the epics, the Smriti, or other pre-Islamic Indian texts (Levi admits the possibility of exaggeration on the part of Muslim chroniclers but accepts Basham's claims based on Mahabharata without such doubts.[1]) Susan Bayly of Cambridge University noted in her work "Caste, Society and Politics" that India was never a monolithic caste society[8] with noted shifting and fluidity of the caste structures in some parts of India, and its non-existence in others. Irfan Habib notes in his study of the agrarian system of Mughal India, that in many parts of the country, caste barriers were fluid, and the working classes formed a type of vast labour pool, from which specialisations were formed as and when needed without consideration of caste.

  30. Teaching Hate in Gaza
Arab children are still being taught to hate and destroy Israel.
    by Yvette Alt Miller

Jews don’t exist. The Western Wall is Islamic property. The Torah and Talmud are fabricated.

These are not the ravings from a lunatic; as of this year, they’re “facts” taken from new textbooks in use throughout Gaza.
Hamas, which administers most of Gaza’s schools, has made a few changes in the way the schools are run. Modesty patrols now monitor college campuses. Gaza high school students can take military training as an elective. And contact between any school in Gaza and one in Israel is now a criminal offense.

The New York Times reported on November 4, 2013 some of Hamas’ educational initiatives. The new curriculum is Hamas’ latest salvo in the cultural war it’s waging in Gaza. History is being rewritten – the new textbooks don’t mention key recent events like the Oslo Accords – and take demonization of Israel and Jews to new lows.

The goal, according to one Hamas educational advisor, is to prepare children to “resist” Israel. (Jerusalem Post, 5/22/13)
Israel, they learn, is a racist country, and wants to drive all Arabs out of Iraq, Syria and Turkey. (Turkey is not an Arab country, but that didn’t seem to deter Hamas educational officials.) Hamas’ history is also rewritten: it emerges as a heroic resistance movement. Even current history is being rewritten: kids are learning (erroneously) that as recently as last year, Hamas rockets launched from Gaza hit Tel Aviv, and “forced the Zionists to beg for cease-fire.”

These are hardly the statements of a progressive, peace-seeking movement.

    1. Yet, incredibly, Hamas continues to enjoy funding donated from an array of foreign governments and charities. In 2012, the European Union confirmed that it would continue funding the Palestinian Authority as usual, despite its new pact with Hamas, an EU-designated terrorist group. In lifting its six-year-old ban on funding Hamas, the EU expressed its expectation that the new joint government would be commitment to non-violence. Hamas is now allowed to share in EU funding directed to the Palestinian Authority, an amount that exceeds 50 million Euros each year.
Hamas’ latest textbook is only the latest in a series of biased educational curricula adopted by Palestinian leadership and supported by western governments.
A 2013 study by Yale University found that textbooks used in Palestinian Authority-run schools contained less information about Israelis than Israeli state textbooks contained about Palestinians. They portrayed Israelis negatively, and were less self-critical than Israeli state textbooks. (Israeli state textbooks, by contrast, were found to be more informative and positive about Palestinians, and more likely to contain self-critical information.) According to the Yale researchers, fully 84% of the material in the Palestinian Authority textbooks dealing with Israel was negative.
Examples of troubling material in Palestinian Authority educational material abound. Maps without Israel on them are common. And while student are taught to envisage a world without Israel, Israel’s creation is described – in one 12th grade textbook – as a “catastrophe that is unprecedented in history.”
Some Palestinian Authority texts glorify violence and death. An 8th grade reading book, in use since 2006, contains an ode to “heroes”: “Your enemies seek life, while you seek death”, while a 6th grade Arabic textbook asks students to read a poem The Martyr: “I shall carry my soul in my palm and toss it into the abyss of destruction….” (Texts translated by Palestinian Media Watch).

    2. The 2011 matriculation exam for Palestinian Authority-run high schools asked students to punctuate phrases such as “we shall die in order that our land shall live” and “do not view the occupier as human” (reported in Ramallah-based newspaper Al Ayyam May 3, 2011).
A third major organization running Palestinian schools is the United Nations Relief Works Agency (UNRWA). The UN defines aiding development as “enlarging people’s choices” and “expanding human capabilities”. You’d think that schools run by its agency would promote moderation but, sadly, this is not always the case.
There have been several instances of high-profile Hamas officials and even fighters working in UN schools. In 2008, a deputy headmaster and science teacher at the UNRWA-run Rafah Boys Prep School in Gaza was killed in an Israeli airstrike. It turned out this UN employee had also worked as a rocket engineer for the extremist group Islamic Jihad for eight years. After his death, Islamic Jihad hung a poster celebrating his martyrdom at the entrance of the UN school where he worked. (Jerusalem Post 8/21/11)
In 2009, according to the Jerusalem Post, the teachers union at UNRWA schools voted to pass control of their school curricula in Gaza to the ruling Hamas regime.
Despite this, Western governments have continued to bankroll UNRWA and the Palestinian Authority. International donors pledged $7.4 billion in aid over two years to the Palestinian Authority at a major conference in 2007, exceeding previous years’ support. In 2013, the Palestinian Authority approved an annual operating budget of $3.8 billion. The United States and European Union donate much of the UNRWA’s billion-dollar annual operating budget.
The United States, European Union, and others have a real interest in encouraging peace in the Middle East. In announcing that it would fund the new Palestinian Authority-Hamas government, the EU declared that it looked “forward to continuing its support, including through direct financial assistance, for a new Palestinian government that should uphold the principal of non-violence.”

    3. Yet Hamas’ new textbooks – and other Palestinian books and schools that encourage hostility and celebrate bloodshed – are anything but non-violent.
Click here to receive Aish.com's free weekly email.
Hamas’ new textbooks betray the very students they educate. Instead of giving Gaza’s children the skills they need to succeed in the 21st century, they are re-writing the history of the past. Instead of helping the region’s children understand the world around them, they are cruelly limiting their capacity to change that world for the better.
In 2010, then Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon, responded to similar criticisms that Palestinian textbooks were biased and incited violence: “We are grateful for European aid, and without aid from the US and Europe there would be no chance of peace, but since the Oslo agreements were signed, the Palestinians have received more aid per capita than the people of Europe in the Marshall Plan after the Second World War and they have nothing to show for it. The money has either gone to terror or just isn’t there.”
Hamas’ latest textbook makes a future of violence and confrontation more likely. Concerned individuals and nations should be seeking ways to provide constructive alternates.

      Home Demolitions: By the Numbers

Since 1967, Israel has destroyed approximately 27,000 Palestinian structures in the occupied territories (the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Gaza Strip), including more than 24,000 homes, according to ICAHD.
Since the renewal of negotiations in August 2013, Israel has destroyed approximately 25 Palestinian homes, in addition to dozens of other structures, leaving approximately 200 people homeless.

According to the UN, between January and September 2013, 862 Palestinians were displaced by Israeli demolitions, compared to 886 (including 468 children) in all of 2012.

In 2012, a total of 600 Palestinian structures were demolished by Israel in the occupied territories, including at least 189 homes, according to ICAHD. This figure doesn’t include “self-demolitions” whereby Palestinians destroy their own homes rather than have Israel do it and charge them an additional fine.

One Bedouin village, Al-Araqib, in the Negev desert in the south of Israel, has been destroyed more than 50 times by Israel since July 2010.

Between 2005 and 2012, Israel demolished approximately 1500 Palestinian homes due to owners lacking hard-to-obtain construction permits.

Between 1993 and 2000, when the Oslo Accords were being negotiated between Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization, Israel destroyed almost 1700 Palestinian homes in the occupied territories.

Immediately following Israel’s occupation of the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Gaza in 1967, approximately 6000 Palestinian homes were demolished, including four entire villages in the Latrun area, along with dozens of homes in the Mughrabi Quarter of Jerusalem’s Old City, which were destroyed to make way for a plaza for the Western Wall. In 1971, between 2000 and 6000 Palestinian homes were destroyed in Gaza in an effort to pacify the newly occupied territory.

During Israel’s creation (1948-49), Zionist and then Israeli forces expelled approximately 750,000 Palestinian Arabs from their ancestral lands in order to create a Jewish majority state of Israel. In the process, more than 400 Palestinian population centers were systematically destroyed, including thousands of homes, businesses, and houses of worship.

Israel, a secular and socialist state that was built upon ...
... the Three Pillars of Apartheid

The first pillar “derives from Israeli laws and policies that establish Jewish identity for purposes of law and afford a preferential legal status and material benefits to Jews over non-Jews.”

The second pillar is reflected in
“Israel’s ‘grand’ policy to fragment the OPT [and] ...
... ensure that Palestinians remain confined to the reserves designated for them ...
... while Israeli Jews are prohibited from entering those reserves but enjoy freedom of movement...
... throughout the rest of the Palestinian territory.

This policy is evidenced by Israel’s extensive appropriation of Palestinian land,
      which continues to shrink the territorial space available to Palestinians;
      the hermetic closure and isolation of the Gaza Strip from the rest of the OPT;
      the deliberate severing of East Jerusalem from the rest of the West Bank;

and the appropriation and construction policies serving to carve up the West Bank ...
... into an intricate and well-serviced network of connected settlements for Jewish-Israelis ...
... and an archipelago of besieged and non-contiguous enclaves for Palestinians.”

      The third pillar is
“Israel’s invocation of ‘security’ to validate sweeping restrictions on Palestinian freedom of ...
... opinion, expression, assembly, association and movement [to] mask a true underlying intent ...

... to suppress dissent to its system of domination and thereby maintain control over Palestinians as a group.”

    8. For political Zionism to come to fruition – for a Jewish state to be created in Palestine –
it was necessary to carry out as large a scale as possible ethnic cleansing of the country’s unwanted Arab natives.

But even in 1948, and especially in 1967, Israel was unable to fully ‘cleanse’ the land of the Palestinians.
As a result, Israel’s fallback position was to implement an apartheid regime of exclusion and discrimination.

Where the dispossession had been most effective – inside Israel’s pre-1967 borders –apartheid could be less explicit.
But in the OPT, home to a vast majority of Palestinians, Israeli apartheid had to be overt and iron-fisted.

“Why have the Palestinians continued to reject a compromise with Israel, from the very beginning of the state in 1948, to Arafat’s ‘No’ at Camp David?

The myth of ‘brave but peace-seeking’ Israel always let down by violent, compromise-rejecting Arabs is powerful and enduring.

Israel’s defenders argue that if only the Palestinians had accepted partition in 1948,…
rather than seeking ‘Israel’s destruction’, everything would have been different.

Likewise, for the propaganda war of the Second Intifada, the Palestinians – and Arafat in particular – were said to have turned down a ‘best ever’ offer from Israel at Camp David, instead opting for violence.

      Let’s take a look at 1948 first.
The real story of Israel’s creation – the Nakba –
… is very different from the sanitized, Zionist narrative.

When the UN proposed partition, Jews owned less than 7 per cent of the land, made up a third of the population – yet over half of the land of Palestine was assigned to the Jewish state.

Moreover, even in its proposed borders, the Jewish state’s population would be almost half Arab.
Ironically, while Palestinians are often accused of ‘rejectionism’, the Zionist leadership only accepted the idea of partition for tactical reasons.

First Prime Minister Ben Gurion described a “‘partial Jewish state’” as just the beginning:
“‘a powerful impetus in our historic efforts to redeem the land in its entirety.’”
In a meeting of the Jewish leadership in 1938, Ben Gurion shared his assumption that
“‘after we build up a strong force following the establishment of the state – we will abolish the partition of the country and we will expand to the whole Land of Israel.’”

Martha Gellhorn was right. They love hate, they teach hate, they eat, drink, breath hate, they roll in hate.

This is why there can be no peace. The first King Hussein tried and was assassinated. Sadat tried and was assassinated. The biggest obstacle to peace is the West's pathological denial of reality. There is not a single case of a nation yielding sovereignty and surviving.

The vacillation of Jewish leadership is, to my mind, the single greatest threat to Israel's survival. Playing these little games such as those of the past two days concerning construction is a potentially mortal moral flaw. Our leaders must make decisions and stick with them, come hell or high water. "If you say you are going to take Vienna, take Vienna." Because there is discernible American foreign policy in that region of the world, Israel will have to man up and do what needs to be done.

  31. Trying to kick start ObamaCare is like kick starting a dead horse -

Crisis: Reid calls “special meeting” of Senate Democrats on ObamaCare
POSTED AT 5:11 PM ON NOVEMBER 13, 2013 BY ALLAHPUNDIT

I don’t get it. Sebelius claims that “the marketplace is working.” What is there to talk about?

Actually, I can think of two items on the agenda.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Thursday will convene a special meeting of the Senate Democratic caucus and senior White Officials to discuss the troubled rollout of ObamaCare…

The Senate leader said President Obama called him Tuesday evening to discuss healthcare and other issues.

Several Democrats have signed onto a proposal sponsored by Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) that would force insurance companies to let people keep their health plans if they like them.

Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) said he would have a better idea of what proposals Democrats will push to improve the new law after the Thursday meeting.
Agenda item one: Are they really going to cover their asses politically by passing Mary Landrieu’s bill knowing that it’ll increase the damage to ObamaCare? If you support the law, as every Democrat does, the last thing you should want to do in the wake of the website meltdown is further discourage healthy people from signing up on the exchanges. Give ‘em back their old plans and you’re guaranteeing that the risk pools for new ObamaCare-approved policies will be even sicker and older than they already are. And the older and sicker they get, the higher premiums will have to be next year to make up for the losses, which will further discourage healthy people from enrolling. There’s a two-word term to describe that phenomenon. Hint: One of the words is “spiral.” And yet, not only is Landrieu’s bill still in play, other Democrats like Mark Udall are introducing their own “keep your plan” bills.

Agenda item two: How long before the Healthcare.gov Chernobyl is finally contained? Administration sources keep reassuring the media that November 30th is still the target date, but Sebelius told people listening to today’s HHS conference call that they might want to consider enrolling directly on individual insurance companies’ websites instead. (You’d lose your subsidy if you do that, but something like 41 percent of people whose plans have been dropped aren’t eligible for subsidies anyway.) Jim Moran went so far as to say, “They are not going to meet the November 30th deadline, I would bet anything on that. If I had a farm I’d bet the farm on that.” (Another Democrat who spoke to BuzzFeed for the story at the last link described the meeting with White House aides this morning as “incredibly tense.”) How much longer do they have to wait for good news? If the website is still in ruins next month, Obama — and congressional Democrats — will be forced to consider extending the enrollment period or delaying the mandate. If there’s no avoiding a shinola-eating vote in December, why not take a more politically popular one now on “keep your plan” to mitigate the damage?

I’ll leave you with this, from health-industry expert Bob Laszewski: “The audacity of this administration to continue telling people to keep going back to the website and the call center when they knew full well that only 25 people per day per state were making it thorough the gauntlet that is Healthcare.gov is startling. This program is in grave danger of collapsing if the administration cannot dramatically grow the size of the risk pool and attract healthy people to it.”

Panama Ed said, "Yeah! Let's put these pigs in NATO .... NOT"

But as always there is that certain missing ingredient of intellectual honesty that would give his observations some credibility. Oddly missing is an accounting of the number of slaves held in Muslim states and in Muslim dominated regions, including vast areas of Africa. As is well known, Muslim countries have never given up the slave trade or its benefits. Yes, they have signed treaties and agreements promising to do right, but... ... ...

No one, here on this blog, has ever wanted, or advocated for, the inclusion of another Islamic state in NATO.

There is, was, no need to include any other state in the post in reference to NATO, but for Israel.
As Israel was the other state that Farmer Fudd has advocated NATO membership for.
Slavery is not an issue, with regards Israel, apartheid is. But I was letting that slide.

No, NATO membership with regards India was the primary driver.
The rape story was the lead into the subject.
Slavery the meat of the matter.

As I said, no Muslim country has been mentioned for an expansion in the membership of NATO.
So there was no need to bring any of those into the discussion.

Idaho GOP Lawmaker Mark Patterson Lied About Rape Charge On Gun Permit Application, But Allowed To Carry Gun Anyway

By Jonathan Vankin, Tue, November 12, 2013

A Republican lawmaker in Idaho had his permit to carry a concealed gun revoked because he lied about a rape case from his youth on the application. But he can carry a concealed handgun anyway, because in Idaho, state legislators are allowed to carry guns, even though ordinary citizens must apply for a permit.

Now the first-term state rep, Mark Patterson, says that the county sheriff is staging a political hit against him, trying to
“shut me down and silence me and get me the hell out of the way,”

because he has scrutinized the way Ada County Sheriff Gary Raney spends his department’s money, according to a detailed report in the Idaho Statesman.

The whole saga goes back to 1974, when Patterson (pictured) pleaded guilty to a rape which the legislator now not only says he did not commit, but he claims his memory has been wiped clean of that time period due to chemotherapy he received to treat a case of Hepatitis C he contracted on a visit to the dentist.

You following all this? Good, stick with it. It gets better.

Here’s what the police report from Tampa, Fla., says that Patterson did on May 15, 1974, when he was 21.

The time was around 1 am. Patterson was at a bar when he saw a woman crying in the parking lot. So he offered her a ride home. But instead of taking her home, he drove her to his own apartment. The woman tried to get away, but Patterson chased her down, silenced her by clamping his hand over her mouth and forced her into his apartment.

Patterson owned an 85-pound Doberman. He told the woman that he’d command the dog to attack her if she didn’t have sex with him. He also told the woman that he belonged to a biker gang and that his buddies would come after her if she talked.

Today, Patterson denies that any of that happened. He says the cops made it all up and that he has no memory of that time anyway, due to his chemo-induced amnesia. But in 1974 he took a prosecutor’s deal and pled guilty to “assault with intent to rape.”

He somehow forgot to mention that plea on his gun permit application. Twice. First in 2007 then again in 2012.

Three years after the offense to which he pled guilty, Paterson was charged with another rape, but acquitted.

    Typical Idaho Republican?
Is this Idaho Republican, Mark Patterson, a misogynist, too?

Rape, misogynists, bikers, guns, conceal carry, lying on state documents by an elected politico, the Idaho story has it all.
Even the fellows name 'Peterson' ties into the Scott and Drew stories.
Is there something or somewhere to go with that 'coincidence'?

No, allen a lying politico misogynist rapist, with a conceal carry permit, it says something about the people in Idaho.

There are so many ways to take the story, now.

And the older and sicker they get, the higher premiums will have to be next year to make up for the losses, which will further discourage healthy people from enrolling. There’s a two-word term to describe that phenomenon. Hint: One of the words is “spiral.”

Those boys at the Heritage Foundation have certainly distanced themselves from their own proposal.
That is another interesting side bar to this entire story.

But with Medicare now so entwined with the ACA, with the Medicaid expansion, and probably a whole bunch of other aspects of the ACA that are still not publicly known, but implemented at the Federal level, none of those are gong to go away.

Leaving the Federals no real opportunity to just "repeal" the ACA.

Geneticists expect "drift" in a heterogeneous population of about 3%/generation. The cause will be hanky-panky, rape, assimilation, or conversion. This amount of drift over 2000 would easily produce the European effect you report in the Ashkenazi. Despite what one guy surmises as to Ashkenazi origin and your concurrence, the vast preponderance of evidence does not support his claims. What is interesting is that the drift among Jews is about 1.5%, indicating that Jewish women were pretty virtuous with regard to sexual favors and that the Jewish communities were extremely close-knit. It also explains why a group of genetic maladies are almost without exception found only among Jews.
