COLLECTIVE MADNESS
“Soft despotism is a term coined by Alexis de Tocqueville describing the state into which a country overrun by "a network of small complicated rules" might degrade. Soft despotism is different from despotism (also called 'hard despotism') in the sense that it is not obvious to the people."

Shawn Custis, 42, was apprehended less than an hour after authorities released his name, according to Anthony Ambrose, Chief of Detectives for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office. The suspect was arrested by the FBI Violent Fugitive Task Force and Prosecutor"s detectives in New York City shortly before 6 p.m. in Manhattan. He is being transported to an undisclosed police location in New Jersey, Ambrose said. Custis is charged with first-degree attempted murder, due to the severity of the beating, as well as robbery, burglary and endangering the welfare of a child. "It was a horrific and brutal crime and detectives and the FBI did a really good job cooperating together to bring this individual to justice," Ambrose said. Authorities today identified Custis as the man captured on film mercilessly beating a woman in front of her child. Authorities are looking for 42-year-old Shawn Custis, charged in the home invasion robbery and beating of a Millburn mother caught on the family's nanny camera. Essex County Prosecutor's Office Custis is a career criminal with 12 felony convictions and a long record dating back to the early 90s. He was most recently jailed in connection with a string of burglaries across New Jersey in March 2011. He served 10 months in jail and was released in December, according to court records.

I don't know where it stands with the local prosecutor now. It is in their hands, which may be tied. I do not know the extradition treaties. My lawyer did not either. But 'Abi' is on the national immediate arrest list if he tries to enter the county, perhaps some other countries too. Then he would face trial and we here would find him guilty. Then we would have to house him for forty years or so.

ReplyDeleteCalifornia schools prosletyze for Obamacare (on your dime).
In a school district were only 66% of students graduate, you might think that a school district might have better things to do with their money than promote Obamacare. You would be wrong. The 1984 theme keeps recurring with this presidency, now the political indoctrination of children.
California school officials will use their part of a $37 million grant of taxpayer funds to teach school children how to promote Obamacare to their own families.
Los Angeles Unified School District, a district already in deep financial trouble, will use almost $1 million to meet its goal to trains teens “to be messengers to family members” about how to take advantage of taxpayer subsidized health care, known best as Obamacare.
According to the Heartlander Magazine, spokeswoman Sarah Soto-Taylor of Covered California, the state’s branch of the federal program, said the staff doesn’t question the goal.
And there is much more. Read on...

Delete“This is the beginning of the Orwellian indoctrination for kids, and the next thing you know they will want feedback on what the kids say, and (be) recording the feedback of the parents, essentially making spies of kids reporting on their own families! This is un-American.”
I saw a piece on this on one of the TV channels yesterday. According to it, this has already started as the grant will require monitoring and the filing or quarterly reports showing progress and effectiveness.
One has to wonder how it will affect the teachers performance ratings. One has to wonder how it will effect the students grades? Do you get extra credit if you bring in a note from your parents saying Yes, to Obamacare? Do you get detention or a failing grade if you fail to bring in the note. Do they stand you in the corner? Do the teacher ridicule you like they do at university when you have the timerity to question the teacher's liberal thinking? The implications are scary.
However, see the other uses for the grant, the things you are being asked to finance.

ReplyDeleteThe National Football League is used to big, bruising battles. But on Friday, it announced that it was likely staying out of one of the roughest fights in Washington: the war over Obamacare.
Earlier this week, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius disclosed that the Obama administration was in talks with the sports organization to help promote the law, which enters a new phase as advocates prepare to begin enrolling millions of Americans in health insurance this fall.
--------------
Earlier this week, Sebelius told reporters that while there was no formal agreement, NFL officials were “actively and enthusiastically engaged, because they see health promotion as one of the things that they think is good for them and good for the country.” She said it was one of several sports organizations that the administration had approached.
A spokeswoman for HHS declined to comment Friday.
------------
A spokesman for MLB acknowledged that the league had been contacted by the White House, but he said the administration canceled the meeting and that the MLB has not been provided with any information to make a decision. A spokesman for the National Hockey League said Friday that the White House postponed a planned meeting, and that it had not made a decision about a partnership.

They caught the guy in, what, a couple of hours? The "Nannie State" might be bad, but Nannie Cams are definitely what's happening.
ReplyDeleteThe Nannie cam is voluntary.
ReplyDeleteNot for the "nannie." :)
DeleteSo is the "Nanny State".
DeleteAnyone can always vote with their feet, if the policies of the United States are that disagreeable to a resident or citizen.
Mr Romney said as much, when he prescribed self-deportation as the remedy to ridding US of the undocumented residents. If the government makes life untenable, leave.
Ecuador may open its doors.
Belize is advertising for immigrants.
There are many locales in the world that offer an alternative to the pervasiveness of the US "Nanny State".
.
DeleteAnyone can always vote with their feet, if the policies of the United States are that disagreeable to a resident or citizen.
Pure inanity.
As stupid as those of the people who threaten to leave if some jackhole they don't like gets elected.
.
Insanity, Q, is doing the same thing, expecting a different result.
DeleteOne can vote for Repubs or Dems, the growth of the "Nanny State" continues unabated, regardless of which side wins.
If the governmental role in society continues to expand, and there is absolutely no reason to believe the trends of the past 200 years are going to be reversed,an d the resident does not want to participate, well, what is the alternative to migration?
If you do not want the Federals invading your privacy ...
If you do not want the local mayor to regulate the size of your soft drink ...
If you do not want your home subject to aerial surveillance ...
If you do not want to be subject to photo radar ...
Move.
That is not insane, it is realism.
I know many, many people that have moved around the world. From Europe to South America, then to the us. Many folks that moved all around north eastern Africa, before coming to the US.
People that left Spain for Venezuela, then moved Panama.
People that left Colombia, and moved to Panama.
People that have left the US and took up residence in Mexico, Belize, Costa Rica and Panama.
I have read reports of hundreds of thousands of folk leaving Russia, for the sunny clime of Palestine.
Many of them moved for political and/or economic reasons. They did not want to live under political repression or economic deprivation.
Nothing insane about pursuing enlightened self interest, nothing at all.
That is how mot all of the residents of the US got here, either they or their forebears pursued their own self interest...
... and migrated to a better place. One more conducive to their own particular ideological or economic needs.
If the "Nanny State" is so pervasive and so repressive, what alternative do you advise an individual, other than moving to a part of the world where those conditions do not apply?
Moving deeper into the man cave?
Drinking more beer?
Ahh...
DeleteInanity, not insanity.
Well, the same set of principles apply.
And it is not the same as threatening to move if "your" candidate does not gain the office.
The "Nanny State" is much more pervasive than any single elected official.
boobie and his American Thinker sources tell us there are Gulags here in the US, so that must be considered as part of the motivating factors in moving to the relative political and economic freedom offered in Mexico, Brazil, Belize or Panama.
Or the admission that the reality of the "Nanny State", in the US, is that it is neither pervasive nor all that oppressive.
.
DeleteInanity: 1. lack of sense, significance, or ideas; silliness. 2. something inane. 3. shallowness; superficiality
You offer up another false dilemma, an either/or dichotomy that says admit that the the 'nanny state' (a stupid term IMO) is neither pervasive nor oppressive or leave. It is a stupid argument since it starts out using false assumptions. The programs are obviously pervasive, the people conducting them have admitted as such. Exactly how oppressive they are is impossible to know since everything about them, (scope, application, et al) is classified as 'top secret' for 'national security' reasons.
Unless you are of the Eloi or the Sheeple whose raison d'etre involves 'trust' of the shepards, it is impossible to make a judgement (forget a reasoned judgement) about just how 'oppressive' these programs are.
It is the same argument offered up by a minority of dolts of all political persausions when they run out of arguments,
"If you don't like the idea of Obama as president, you are free to leave the country."
"If you don't like that particular policy, pack up and leave."
Arguments based on tyranny of the majority as expressed by witless sops.
.
.
DeleteWhat do you do otherwise?
You fight the policies in whatever way you can.
The political class is poll driven. You express your dislike of their policies in any way you can; on an individual basis, through polls, letters to your reps, voting, wistleblowers like Snowden and Manning.
You make your thoughts known by signing petitions like the one pressed to White House urging the president to grant Snowden amnesty. Thwe message is clear. They got their 100,000 signatures and at least the president is forced to publicly respond.
You keep raising the issues like the lack of IG's in major U.S. agencies.
You elect people like the bipartisan group of 26 senators who recently sent the letter to Clapper demanding he come forward with the truth. You vote out of office cretins like Mike Rogers who abet these slugs and let them get away with McNamara style answers.
You support efforts like those of Rand Paul and the ACLU who are trying to get a SCOTUS review of these issues.
While there has been no effective change in government policy yet, I am hopeful. The tone is changing. Education is the first step. The message is sent in articles everyday about new abuses or questionable practices. It is seen in the polls. It is seen in the tone of the politians. Pelosi has seen it first hand even from her minions. McCain has tempered his truculance. Obama, as usual, has once again tried to stand aloof and above the fray.
The alternative: the Eloi and the Sheeple, comfortable and contented.
.
Been doing those things since I was in High School, Q.
DeleteWell over forty years, now.
Been pretty much ineffective the entire time.
Medicare Part B, exemplifies the continued growth in government.
Under Reagan the New Dealers thrived. As Mr Reagan was an unrepentant New Dealer, himself.
You point to one or a half dozen examples of really egregious behavior, which, even if reversed will not stop the trend towards ever more pervasive government.
You speak of tone, well, the band plays on.
.
DeleteAs I see it, there are only a couple things you can do, fight the current or go will the flow.
Each person has to decide for himself.

ReplyDeleteSusan Rice says Snowden incident has not weakened the president.
One has to smile in watching the worm slowly turn.
At first, there was outrage. Snowden was a traitor and has caused irreparible danger to the U.S. He needs to be punished to the full extent of the law.
Now, slightly frustrated that their efforts haven't proved effective, Obama says he can't be bothered with a "...29 year old nerd...", old Susan says no big deal, and old coots like Bolton and McCain back off their claims that he is a traitor.

He did admit that his status was "complicated".

DeleteAdded to the theatrics, and a greater understanding of the systematic corruption within the NSA.
Most of our Prisoners are incarcerated for drug crimes; and the majority of those are simple "possession" of pot. If we get those out of the "system," maybe we'll have more room in our prisons for animals like this to spend a little more time there (like, a LOT more time.) In this asshole's case, maybe the rest of his natural life.
