COLLECTIVE MADNESS
“Soft despotism is a term coined by Alexis de Tocqueville describing the state into which a country overrun by "a network of small complicated rules" might degrade. Soft despotism is different from despotism (also called 'hard despotism') in the sense that it is not obvious to the people."

ReplyDeleteMeanwhile what are the noble Syrian rebels, favorites of the UK, France, John McCain, John Kerry and US Neocons up to today?
ReplyDeleteRebels fighting the Syrian regime have shot dead a 15-year-old boy in front of his parents and siblings after accusing him of blasphemy, an activist group said.
Al Jazeera was told that the boy, a street vendor selling coffee, was from the Shaar neighbourhood of the northern city of Aleppo. He has been named locally as Mohammad Kattaa.
Reports indicated that he was arguing with another boy on Saturday and used the name of Prophet Muhammad in a common phrase used by Syrians at which point he was picked up by fighters, beaten, and then shot.
"An unidentified Islamist rebel group shot dead a 15-year-old child who worked as a coffee seller in Aleppo, after they accused him of blasphemy," said Syrian Observatory for Human Rights director Rami Abdel Rahman.
Abdel Rahman said the rebel group likely comprised foreigners.
"They spoke classical Arabic, not Syrian dialect," he said.
"They shot the boy twice, once in the mouth, another in his neck, in front of his mother, his father and his siblings," he added.
Now if Israel builds a room addition on a home in disputed territory it's a war crime. In Syria? the rebels (who suck) fight the assad's government (who suck)
DeleteIf either side ever wins?
Expect complete genocide of the other side. Real genocide.
What is the legitimate government of Syria doing to rid their country of these nobel rebels?
ReplyDeleteNews outlets close to the Syrian regime and the Lebanese Shia militia Hizbollah, which has come to its support, said that "Operation Northern Storm" to retake Aleppo, the biggest city in the country, and the surrounding countryside had begun. Other sources told the AFP news agency that the battle would start in “the coming days or hours".
There was no evidence of a major attack last night, but there was renewed fighting near a government-held base on the north-western outskirts. Hizbollah reinforcements were said to have arrived in the area, while a video leaked to an opposition website showed a regime general recruiting men from two Shia towns to join in a fresh attack.
The regime is in high spirits after the Syrian army and Hizbollah retook Qusayr, close to the Lebanese border. They continued their advance over the weekend, sweeping through the last opposition-held villages north of the town.
They harried the retreating rebels and the thousands of civilians who had fled with them.

ReplyDeleteThe Syrian Observator for Human Rights, which tracks Syria's civil war, today published the video above that shows members of the Al Nusrah Front for the People of the Levant, al Qaeda's affilate in Syria, raising the black flag of jihad in an Aleppo neighborhood.
Aleppo province: Islamist activists in the Tariq al-Bab neighbourhood of Aleppo have taken down the Syrian revolution flags and threw them to the ground, putting in their place the flag of Jabhat al-Nusra and the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham. Local civil activists have voiced much anger as a result.
The raising of al Qaeda's flag in Aleppo is not surpising. By early 2013, the Al Nusrah Front had imposed sharia, or Islamic law, in Aleppo. The Nusrah Front is also in control of vast areas of eastern Syria, including Raqqah, a provincial capital, and has imposed sharia there as well.
The video of the Al Nusrah Front raising its flag appears just two days after al Qaeda emir Ayman al Zawahiri again implored Muslims to wage jihad in Syria. From Zawahiri's speech, which was released on jihadist forums and translated by the SITE Intelligence Group:
O lions of Islam in the Levant of garrison and jihad: There is hope to bring back Palestine, which was usurped from us 65 years ago, with your blessed jihad. So, O Ummah of Islam and its free and honorable people, if you want the Caliphate to return, then deploy to the Levant. If you want to establish Shariah-based governance, then deploy to the Levant. If you to liberate Palestine, then deploy to the Levant. If you want to extirpate the corrupt rulers, then deploy to the Levant. If you want to resist America, then deploy to the Levant. And if you want to stand against the Iranian Safavid expansion, then deploy to the Levant. Deploy with yourselves, monies, experiences and knowledge.
Make no mistake: Syria has become a prime front for al Qaeda. The Al Nusrah Front was estimated by the US government to have had more than 10,000 fighters at the end of last year; this number doesn't include the more than 3,000 Free Syrian Army fighters who have defected to the Al Nusrah Front as of the beginning of May. And it doesn’t include the Muhajireen Army, which is led by a Chechen commander and is closely allied to the Al Nusrah Front.
NOTE: These are the people, the UK, France, John Kerry and John McCain want to arm! Houston, we have a problem.

ReplyDeleteZARQA, Jordan — Patriot missiles were deployed for the first time at an annual multinational military exercise in key U.S. ally Jordan on Sunday, Jordanian and U.S. army officers said.
The 12-day “Eager Lion” exercises have brought together 8,000 personnel from 19 mainly Arab and European countries to bolster defense capabilities in the face of a possible flare-up from neighboring Syria.
“We don’t intend to attack anybody,” Jordanian Maj.Gen. Awni el-Edwan told reporters, while commenting on the deployment of U.S. Patriot missiles. He said the exercises would focus on border security, irregular warfare, terrorism and counterinsurgency.
Jordan has been jittery over reports of chemical weapons use in Syria, where an uprising that started in 2011 has descended in to all-out civil war.
Meanwhile, Syria’s regime and its patron, Russia, have expressed concern over the Patriot deployment.
President Bashar Assad’s forces appeared to be regaining control in recent days over areas taken by rebels, particularly the strategic town of Qusair.

They are really pushing to get rid of Assad and are itching to turn the US loose on the Iranians. Let’s take a peek at what the Saudis are ding this weekend.
ReplyDeleteSaudi Arabia can’t find enough executioners to carry out its barbaric brand of justice, according to reports.
The Kingdom is actively soliciting applicants who can be trained to behead people sentenced to death under Sharia law, according to Vatican Insider. While the problem may shine a light on Saudi Arabia’s frightening justice system, it also could show a more humane population, according to the Asia Times.
“Fewer people are interested in a “career" in executing others, a task that requires a lot of cold blood and a lot of training to be able to swing a sword properly,” Asia Times reported.
The executioners who are on the job are doing double duty, as the number of death penalties meted out has not slowed. Some 76 people were put to death in 2012, and 40 have already been put to death this year. The most recent case took place on May 14 in the southwestern city of Najran, where a man was beheaded after being convicted of murdering a fellow tribesman. The ultimate penalty is applied in Saudi Arabia in cases of murder, armed robbery, rape, drug trafficking, witchcraft and sodomy.
Human rights groups and western groups have tried to influence Saudi Arabia to implement more fair trials and less cruel methods of execution. It remains the only country in the world where beheadings are carried out in public places.

Here is a credible report. I believe it.
ReplyDeleteA British Jewish Member of Parliament recounted his trips to meet with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad—and in one instance his wife—in a Daily Mail editorial and chalked Assad’s current actions up to one motive: regime survival.
Brooks Newmark first met Assad on a trip to Damascus in 2006 and writes that the Syrian president was alarmingly forthright in his comments, even then.
“Assad’s answers to my questions were instructive and at times shocking in their directness. When I asked him what was his most important objective, he replied in two words: ‘Regime survival,’” Newmark writes.
Assad was equally as forthright in articulating his regime’s weakness and hostility to Israel.
“I am weak both economically and militarily. I cannot take on Israel directly. They are much stronger than me. It makes more sense to use Hezbollah to put pressure on Israel,” Newmarks writes of Assad telling him during one exchange.
Newmark met with Asma al-Assad, Bashar’s wife, and questioned her on her husband’s promised reforms, making a comparison with Kamal Ataturk, the Turkish leader who led his country towards secularism before abandoning his rule.
“That is what I hope he does too, serve one more term in office and then retire,” she told him.
Newmark writes that Assad will continue to raze his country in an effort to survive, and that the West must intervene before all is lost.
“I hope and pray a peaceful resolution can be found to this bloody dispute. But if it cannot, we must lift the arms embargo to send a powerful message to Assad that this will no longer be a one-sided war.”
Syrian rebels on Sunday opened fire on two Iraqi border posts along the southern edge of the two countries' frontier, killing one guard and wounding two others, officials said.

Al-Maliki and his government succeeded the Iraqi Transitional Government. He is currently in his second term as Prime Minister. His first Cabinet was approved by the National Assembly and sworn in on 20 May 2006; his second Cabinet, in which he also holds the positions of acting Interior Minister, acting Defense Minister, and acting National Security Minister, was approved on 21 December 2010.

Yet there was no denying that Labrador’s exit will complicate the path forward for the bipartisan legislation, which is likely to compete with a series of individual immigration bills that Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee are advancing.
Labrador is a vocal member of the Tea Party-infused House GOP class of 2010 and was the only Republican member in the group who sits on the Judiciary Committee. He played a similar role to that of Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) in trying to build conservative support for comprehensive immigration reform.
“Anytime you lose someone with the stature, political stature and intellectual understanding that Raúl Labrador has of immigration, it’s always going to make it more difficult,” Gutiérrez said.
Gutiérrez said Labrador was “clear, honest and transparent” about his positions throughout the process.<<

http://news.yahoo.com/car-bomb-explodes-central-syrian-city-092436497.html
ReplyDeleteBEIRUT (AP) — A car bomb exploded Saturday in a Syrian neighborhood largely populated by the Shiite offshoot sect that dominates the regime, killing eight people including three women and a teenager, according to a state-owned TV station. Outside the central city of Homs where the blast took place, government troops pressed an offensive against fleeing rebels in nearby villages.
The state-owned Al-Ikhbariya TV said the booby-trapped car exploded in a populated area near a roundabout in Adawiya, a mostly Alawite district. The station's reporter on the scene said 10 people were wounded by the explosion, which also heavily damaged houses in the area.
Al-Ikhbariya's footage shows frantic residents running around, blood splattered on the ground, and a badly mangled car. Other cars on the street were also damaged. The reporter said the car was carrying about 100 kilograms (220 pounds) of explosives.
The station had earlier said the blast was caused by a suicide bomb.
The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which relies on a network of informants inside Syria, confirmed that the car was booby-trapped. It said seven were killed, citing preliminary reports.
The rare explosion in a neighborhood populated by Alawites, the sect to which President Bashar Assad belongs, comes as the conflict takes increasingly sectarian overtones.
Now to me what is interesting? The very folks that funded, supported, trained the palestinians to murder this very way against Jews, Israelis and Americans are getting their own "chicken coming home to roost" moment.
BEIRUT, June 9 (Itar-Tass) - The Syrian forces on Saturday conducted a major operation near the city of Hama (220 km north of Damascus). The Al-Manar television station reported that 52 armed extremists from the Dzhebhat al-Nusra group were destroyed in the operation. A total of 11 Syrian soldiers were killed in the battle and more than 20 injured. According the SANA news agency, a base of terrorists was also liquidated in Salmiya on the Hama-Aleppo highway.
ReplyDeleteThe government forces at the approaches to the Syrian northern capital liberated two strategically important areas - Maaret Al Atik and Kfar Hamra through which the supply of urban neighbourhoods, seized by militants, was conducted. Army units “pursue the enemy, inflicting heavy losses on it,” military sources say.
South of Aleppo, in Al Aziza soldiers repelled an attack on a checkpoint, 23 militants were killed in the shootout. Another attack was rebuffed in the nearby town of Deir Asafir, according to SANA.
Syrian troops have started mopping up operations in settlements west of Aleppo on the highway to Idlib. The soldiers are fighting against the rebels in the Khan al-Asal area. The most fierce resistance the militants offer north of the city on the Hayan-Anadan highway. SANA reported that groups made up of mercenaries are fighting there.
Could someone please fit that beady eyed McCain for a straight jacket and a muzzle?
ReplyDeleteOn CNN’s State of the Union, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) ripped into Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) over Paul’s suggestion in 2012 that governmental portrayal of the war on terror battlefield being inside the United States opened the door to violation of rights. “Just prior to the Boston bombing, he said the battlefield was no longer in America,” said McCain. “He’s the only one that voted that Iran must not be … contained in the pursuit of nuclear weapons. I disagree.”
During Paul’s famous filibuster of CIA director John Brennan’s nomination over the Obama administration’s drone policy, Paul stated, “Alarm bells should go off when people tell you that the battlefield’s in America. Why? Because when the battlefield’s in America, we don’t have due process. What they’re talking about is they want the laws of war.”
McCain was referring to Paul’s vote against a September 2012 nonbinding resolution regarding Iran’s nuclear program. Paul said that such a vote was technically a declaration of war.
Sunday morning, Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI) responded: “The Constitution proves Sen McCain wrong every day.”
A muzzle is arguably appropriate, though we are supposed to be all for free speech.

It seems that money cannot buy you love. This guy was making $200k. That means the government was paying his firm over $350k. He was a security guard. Uncontrolled spending is driving all of this.
ReplyDeleteIt struck me after the Boston bombing the absurd overkill of closing down a major US City by fully militarized police departments. Where did they get all that unnecessary military gear, painted black, carried and driven by marching cops dressed up to look like robo-SS troops? (of course we know)
These recent episodes reflect a dangerous and unnecessary government behemoth, designed to spy on and repress US citizens under the guise of the nebulous war on terror. It is simply a bureaucracy, outside of political control and out of control.
If congress is passing individual 1000+ pages of legislation without reading them and these same laws end up with 10,000+ pages of regulations, how does anyone know what is going on, let alone provide reasonable oversight?
We cannot trust this bastardization of democracy. It is past or dangerously close to being out of control. The only way to starve this is to seriously cut down the money and starve the beast.
Syrian government forces are reported to be preparing for a major offensive on rebel-held parts of the northern city of Aleppo and its surroundings.
ReplyDeleteA security source said it would start "in the coming hours or days", echoing a pro-government newspaper article saying troops were "deploying heavily".
Activists said there were no signs yet of a renewed push on the Aleppo.
The development comes only days after government forces backed by Hezbollah fighters recaptured the town of Qusair.
On Sunday, they retook the last remaining rebel-held villages in the strategically important area, which lies between the Lebanese border and the central city of Homs.
The regime considers that it has received a shot in the arm after the Qusair battle, but they will find that it will not be easy to advance in Aleppo”
Much of northern Syria has been controlled by rebel groups since last year and the frontlines inside Aleppo have been largely static for months.
However, the fall of Qusair on Wednesday to troops and militants from Hezbollah, the Lebanese Shia Islamist movement, has reportedly been seized on by the military's leadership as a decisive victory.
An article in the pro-government Syrian newspaper, al-Watan, said the army was now "deploying heavily in the countryside near Aleppo in preparation for a battle that will be fought inside the city and on its outskirts".
"Besieged areas will be freed in the first stages and troops which have been on the defensive will go on the offensive."
It added: "The Syrian army will take advantage of its experience in Qusair and Eastern Ghouta [near Damascus] to advance in the provinces of Hama and Homs."
Syria has a population of 22 million, at most 100,000 have been killed and about 1.5 rendered homeless.
