COLLECTIVE MADNESS

“Soft despotism is a term coined by Alexis de Tocqueville describing the state into which a country overrun by "a network of small complicated rules" might degrade. Soft despotism is different from despotism (also called 'hard despotism') in the sense that it is not obvious to the people."

Here is how tough gun control works in New York City:

  1. More (sniff, sniff) compelling news about (sniff, sniff) the faggy doper in spandex tights who needy more and more attention

An emotional Lance Armstrong described telling his son about his doping and compared his lifetime ban from competition to the “death penalty”, in the second part of an interview with talk show host Oprah Winfrey aired on Friday.
    By News Wires (text)

Lance Armstrong says he received the "death penalty" for using performance-enhancing drugs and lying about it for over a decade, but the disgraced cyclist still harbors a strong desire to compete and hopes his lifetime ban will one day be lifted.

In contrast to the impassive confessions to doping Armstrong gave in the first part of his interview with U.S. talk show host Oprah Winfrey on Thursday, Armstrong struggled with his emotions as he discussed the impact his fall had had on his family.

Eyes welling up and pausing to gather his composure, Armstrong recalled the moment he told his children the accusations against him were true and said the fallout from the affair had left his mother "a wreck".

The most humbling moment had come when he had to stand aside from Livestrong, the cancer foundation he established, he said.

"The ultimate crime is the betrayal of these people who support me and believed in me and they got lied to," he said.

Critics said Armstrong had shown little sign of contrition on Thursday, but in the second part of the interview aired on Friday there appeared to be genuine remorse.

He gets better with practice at tugging at the emotional heart strings of the vast and vacuous fat-assed class of American dumbos.

  2. More for the feeble of mind:

It really has come to this: The president and vice president of the United States are trotting out the emotional appeals of ill-informed elementary school children in order to sell the administration's emotional, ill-informed policy response to the Sandy Hook school shooting. Is there a word that combines embarrassing, grotesque, unseemly, and kind of cute? Well, that would describe this campaign.

Lil’ iHinna, for example, opines that “if there are no guns on the street, no one could get hurt” (just like in England!), and concludes her White House-posted video address with the plaintive, elementary school-style plea for “No guns, no guns, no guns, no guns”:

Can a culture get anymore stupid? Oh yea!

  3. The concept of a “First Lady” is right at the top of the list, but what do you expect from a culture that produces this?

Angels don't just sing at Christmastime. For most Americans, they're a year-round presence. A new Associated Press-GfK poll shows that 77 percent of adults believe these ethereal beings are real.

Belief is primarily tied to religion, with 88 percent of Christians, 95 percent of evangelical Christians and 94 percent of those who attend weekly religious services of any sort saying they believe in angels.

But belief in angels is fairly widespread even among the less religious. A majority of non-Christians think angels exist, as do more than 4 in 10 of those who never attend religious services.

Beyond the religious gap, women are more likely than men to believe angels are real, and those over 30 are more apt than younger adults to think they exist.

The finding mirrors a 2006 AP-AOL poll, which found 81 percent believed in angels.

  4. Well, what do you expect?

No wonder this country is in decline- the majority of its citizens lack the necessary critical thinking skills to analyze their ridiculous beliefs. The majority of Americans are convinced of the existence of an afterlife where we will live forever in bliss with deceased loved ones and a man who rose from the dead, invisible angels, a magical deity who performs miracles, a virgin who gave birth, etc, yet they are "unsure" or "question" the possibility that other intelligent life could exist elsewhere in the Universe.

This is modern-day brainwashing at its best and clearly indicative of the fact that there is no intelligent life on THIS planet.

Throughout human history there are no shortage of tales of poets taking inspiration from angelic figures, and indeed the concept of the poetic “muse” has this derivation. But I’m not aware of another incident in the twentieth century in which an angel appeared and offered the opening lines of a poem—indeed, the first Duinese Elegy, what turns out to be generally recognized as one of the great poems of the century. And while the elegy was dated by various correspondence to a January evening in 1912, Rilke did not in fact put it forward for publication until 1922, just four years before his death, and before the composition of “Komm du.”

A good working definition of an angel might be in order.

It really scares me that my 22 year old son, with a mental illness background, can easily walk into a store and purchase a gun.

AIN AMENAS, Algeria (AP) -- In a bloody finale, Algerian special forces stormed a natural gas complex in the Sahara desert on Saturday to end a standoff with Islamist extremists that left at least 19 hostages and 29 militants dead. Dozens of foreign workers remain unaccounted for, leading to fears the death toll could rise.

With few details emerging from the remote site in eastern Algeria, it was unclear whether anyone was rescued in the final operation.

The siege at Ain Amenas transfixed the world after radical Islamists linked to al-Qaida stormed the complex, which contained hundreds of plant workers from all over the world, and then held them hostage surrounded by the Algerian military and its attack helicopters for four tense days that were punctuated with gunbattles and dramatic tales of escape.

  24. My fears are the exact reason why my son should be deprived of his rights. Just because my son fits the criteria of the instant background check doesn't mean that he might not fall into one of those 10 categories.

All I'm saying is the background check should be more extensive. My opinion has nothing to do with any mass murders that have occurred over the years. The world has evolved over the last 200 years and so have the people in it, and certain things should move right along with it.

There is already a background check in place. What would be the difference if they took that one step further?

One has to recognize the difference between correlation and causation. It is man who corrupts religion not the other way around.

Communities Struggle to Break a Grim Cycle of Killing

Homicide victims usually are killed by people of their own race and ethnicity. The pattern goes back at least a generation.

Bureau of Justice Statistics data show that from 1976 to 2005, white victims were killed by white defendants 86% of the time and black victims were killed by blacks 94% of the time.

Then there is the matter of who is dying. Although the U.S. murder rate has been dropping for years, an analysis of homicide data by The Wall Street Journal found that the number of black male victims increased more than 10%, to 5,942 in 2010 from 5,307 in 2000.

Overall, more than half the nation's homicide victims are African-American, though blacks make up only 13% of the population. Of those black murder victims, 85% were men, mostly young men.

I agree with Doug, and have meant to cite some stuff from The Biology of Transcendence, which really goes into this. I am lazy. The problem goes back somewhat further than LBJ though, if that is where one thinks to start.

It goes back to the leaving of the farms, and industrialism, and mobility, and the beginnings of the breakup of the extended family, which, my author argues, is every bit as important as the nuclear family, and supports it.

It is not a problem confined to any one race. Whites are doing just fine too in this regard, though they got a slower start, for various, clear and understandable reasons, in this breakup of a mainstay of what used to be our ways.

    The Case Against Abortion

Abortion, by the numbers, is a racist institution. That's not to say that all or even most of those who support abortion are racists. Nor does it imply that there are no racists among those who oppose abortion. This statement has nothing to do with agendas or intent. It has everything to do with the simple, undeniable reality that in the United States, abortion kills minority children at more than 3 times the rate of non-Hispanic, white children. The rate is even worse for black children. The Reverend Clenard H. Childress calls this phenomenon "black genocide", and has built a national ministry around the exposure of what he calls "the greatest deception [to] plague the black church since Lucifer himself". Alveda C. King, daughter of slain civil-rights leader A.D. King and niece of Martin Luther King, Jr., quotes her uncle often when outlining her opposition of abortion. She writes:

[Martin Luther King, Jr.] once said, “The Negro cannot win as long as he is willing to sacrifice the lives of his children for comfort and safety.” How can the “Dream” survive if we murder the children? Every aborted baby is like a slave in the womb of his or her mother. The mother decides his or her fate.1

Do you think that speeding ticket should stand in my way of purchasing a gun? You probably think not, it's just a speeding ticket, right? Wrong…Anything over 85 mph in AZ is considered a criminal offense, and because I live out of state and couldn't appear in court I had to plead guilty. There was a form I needed to fill out and because I didn't get it in on time, I am now considered a felon.

So according to the instant background check, I am unable to purchase a fire arm because I'm a felon. But that's okay because it complies with the already written rules of the simple background check. I fucked up and now have to suffer the consequence, I know this. Do you think when they run my name for the check it will say, speeding ticket felon or just felon.

My point is that someone like me, a felon, because of a speeding ticket isn't able to purchase a gun but the person next to me with a history of mental illness, but would never know because he was never officially committed is able to make that purchase. Hmm….

      Delete
    4. .

In principal, I agree with the need for tighter checks to cull out mentally ill people.

However, the real problems occur with the implementation. What do you define as mental illness? Who defines it? It's not exactly something you can check off in a box like race or sex. Is it a temporary condition or chronic, accute or borderline?

Then there is the matter of what happens with the information that is provided. There is an ongoing effort to link all law enforcement agencies electronically. Does anyone really trust that the information will stay secure or be dumped when required by law? Those that do are naive, IMO.

You might find that if you filed for a gun permit and were refused for mental problems, it could end up costing you even more problems than that felony conviction in areas like employment, health or life insurance, etc.

Interesting fact, if you Twitter (I don't) and you don't mark the twitter private, that tweet will likely end up in the Library of Congress. A couple years ago Twitter agreed to turn over their archives of old tweets as well as any new ones to the Library of Congress to store for 'historical' purposes. So from first to last, every public tweet will be stored in the Libray of Congress free to be reviewed by 'researchers'.

The administration and the National Archives and Records Administration have been pushing federal agencies to better store their social media communications, FederalNewsRadio.com reports.

    11. Thanks Qurik. I didn't expect anyone to agree with me but to just understand. I'm not going to get into the depths of my sons condition but I agree with all that you say. I don't want to take anyone rights away. It's about awareness and education. MADD…Mothers against drunk driving, I would say is a pretty big organization. Does it stop people from drinking and driving and killing people. No! But it does make people aware and if just one person or even two get this, then maybe, just maybe that one person could save a families life because they chose to not drink and drive. I'm sure you're gonna say that's a poor example but it makes sense to me.

And that's a good question about being a felon in just AZ. I'm pretty sure they are on the vehicle national registry but I would think a felon is a felon no matter which state you're in. And don't worry, it's no joke and I am going to see what I can do to get it expunged. But I like that Felody.

  32. ALGERIA: 32 MILITANTS KILLED, WITH 23 HOSTAGES

ALGIERS, Algeria (AP) - In a bloody finale, Algerian special forces stormed a natural gas complex in the Sahara desert on Saturday to end a standoff with Islamist extremists that left at least 23 hostages dead and killed all 32 militants involved, the Algerian government said. With few details emerging from the remote site in eastern Algeria, it was unclear whether anyone was rescued in the final operation, but the number of hostages killed on Saturday - seven - was how many the militants had said that morning they still had. The government described the toll as provisional and some foreigners remain unaccounted for.

    3. That business about Atlantis rising, for instance....

Cayce had advocated some controversial and eccentric ideas from his trance readings. In many of Cayce's trance sessions he had reinterpreted the history of life on earth. One of Cayce's controversial claims was that of polygenism. According to Cayce, five human races (white, black, red, brown and yellow), had been created separately but simultaneously on different parts of the earth. Cayce also accepted the existence of Atlantis and had claimed that "the red race developed in Atlantis and its development was rapid". Another claim by Cayce was that "soul-entities" on earth had intercourse with animals to produce giants that were as much as twelve feet tall.[26][27]

Olav Hammer wrote that many of Cayce's readings discussed race and skin color and that the explanation for this is that Cayce was not a racist but was influenced by the occult ideas of Madame Blavatsky.[28] Robert Todd Carroll, in his book The Skeptic's Dictionary wrote, "Cayce is one of the main people responsible for some of the sillier notions about Atlantis." Carroll mentioned some of Cayce's notions, which included his belief in a giant crystal ball used to power energy on Atlantis and his prediction that in 1958 the United States would discover a death ray that had been used on Atlantis.[29]

      Mark 2:18-22 (New International Version)

      Mark 2:18-22

      Jesus Questioned About Fasting

18 Now John’s disciples and the Pharisees were fasting. Some people came and asked Jesus, “How is it that John’s disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees are fasting, but yours are not?”

19 Jesus answered, “How can the guests of the bridegroom fast while he is with them? They cannot, so long as they have him with them.

And who, in their right mind, would want to hang with Grim John anyways?

Or a grim hell fired protestant either?
