COLLECTIVE MADNESS

“Soft despotism is a term coined by Alexis de Tocqueville describing the state into which a country overrun by "a network of small complicated rules" might degrade. Soft despotism is different from despotism (also called 'hard despotism') in the sense that it is not obvious to the people."

  3. Is Huma Abedin Going To Sing? She And Weiner Are Both Cooperating With FBI [VIDEO]

The latest development began in early October when New York-based FBI officials notified Andrew McCabe, the bureau’s second-in-command, that while investigating Mr. Weiner for possibly sending sexually charged messages to a minor, they had recovered a laptop with 650,000 emails. Many, they said, were from the accounts of Ms. Abedin, according to people familiar with the matter.

If you are keeping track, that Andrew McCabe that the New York FBI agents talked to?

Yeah, that’s the same Andrew McCabe whose wife got a nice chunk of money from Terry McAuliffe because she was running as a Democrat in Virginia.

Do you think maaaaaaaybe McCabe had some motivation to keep this all hush-hush?
    I guess we’ll never know…

It is unclear whether the F.B.I. will be able to complete its review of the emails belonging to a top aide to Hillary Clinton by Election Day. (Yeah, right, 650k in a week.)

While the hunt for classified information is the priority, bigger problems would arise if there is evidence the emails were concealed from investigators. (ya think?)

Kicking off the final week of the presidential race with a rally at Kent State University, Clinton acknowledged that voters may be asking what "this new email story is about," or "why in the world the FBI would decide to jump into an election with no evidence of wrongdoing with just days to go."

    Margaret Wente
    The Globe and Mail
    Published Monday, Oct. 31, 2016 5:00PM EDT

    ...

Was it a setup? Or was the FBI director just covering his butt? Conspiracy theories abound. No one knows what’s in the e-mails, which may simply be duplicates of stuff the FBI has seen already. But the timing of the announcement, in the home stretch of the race, is massively unfortunate.

“Stroking gun,” screeched the cover of the New York Post in unalloyed glee. Ms. Clinton must be wondering what she’s done to have yet another middle-aged man wreck her life because he can’t control his libido. She has another problem too. Huma has finally broken up with Carlos Danger, but now Hillary may have to break up with Huma.

The FBI’s Halloween surprise may cost her dearly. Her hefty lead in the polls has narrowed, and she may lose the battle to control the Senate. Meanwhile, everyone has switched sides on what they think of FBI director James Comey. Donald Trump, who only last month was accusing him of a shocking politically motivated whitewash, now proclaims him a national hero. Ms. Clinton, who once praised his forthright rectitude, now says his morals are just this side of Freddy Krueger’s. The voters are probably wishing the ground would open up and swallow them all.

My sympathies are with Ms. Clinton on this one. Her judgment, as her staffers have agreed, can be terrible, and she made her e-mail troubles worse by stonewalling and dissembling. But compared to the damage done by WikiLeaks, Edward Snowden and other assorted thieves and hackers, her misdemeanours are barely worth a mention. As U.S. national security expert Eli Lake wrote, “Calling for the prosecution of Clinton in the name of cybersecurity or the protection of state secrets is a bit like cracking down on jaywalking when a serial killer is on the loose.” The real sleaze surrounding Ms. Clinton’s campaign is the big-money cronyism and sophisticated influence-peddling techniques cultivated by some of her key fundraisers. Their antics make even hardened Democrats want to toss their cookies.

The poisoned atmosphere of U.S. politics won’t end soon. Republicans – even those who aren’t endorsing Mr. Trump – are relishing the thought of tearing President Clinton to shreds. “It’s a target-rich environment,” Republican congressman Jason Chaffetz told The Washington Post. “Even before we get to Day One, we’ve got two years’ worth of material already lined up. She has four years of history at the State Department, and it ain’t good.”

Meantime, the world’s most powerful nation has become a laughingstock – overcome by groping scandals, e-mail leaks, and the antics of a guy named like a slang word who takes selfies of his crotch. America’s allies are appalled, and its enemies can scarcely believe their luck. Demagogues and authoritarians around the globe are crowing about the obvious deficiencies of democracy. Vladimir Putin is squirming with delight. The Chinese must be concluding that we’ve reached the twilight of the Western age. America has been brought to its knees – not by its enemies, but by itself.

I want this to be over. I want it to stop. But I’m afraid that it will never stop. I’m afraid that we’ll wake up on Nov. 9 only to discover that one nightmare may be over, but the next has just begun."

Hard to tell whether it's really the author's sympathies or those of someone else given Ms. Wente's propensities. However, regardless, there is no basis for sympathies for either of these people, Clinton or Trump. The responsibility for every negative repercussion on both sides rests solely with the respective candidates.

Peter Thiel, fellow billionaire, on Trump and the current state of American.

    an interesting read...

Peter Thiel: What Trump Represents Isn't Crazy And It's Not Going Away

Didn't know much about Theil until recently but he's been in the news lately because he donated $1.4 million to the Trump campaign which has pretty much made him a pariah among the other CEOs in Silicon Valley.

The link I put up is his address to the National Press Club. He is supporting Trump (and Sanders before he lost his race) because he sees him/them as a change agent who is raising issues that need to be raised. All good though his dismissal of Trump's flaws is unconvincing.

That said, I've watched a number of interviews of Theil lately and I like what I've seen so far.

One thing I have to hand to both Trump and Sanders is that they have both gone against the normal game plan for running a political campaign, Trump by self funding and Sanders by crowd funding. Between them they have shown the conventional wisdom about who can run for president has to be expanded.

    Which brings up Thiel.

Theil is a billionaire ($3 - $4 billion). He is 49 and would be 53 in 2020. He's a libertarian. He recognizes the problems we have in this country (see link above). In the interviews I've seen, he seems to be a reasonable guy who can state his case without ridiculous hyperbole.

Frankly, I believe he could convince the GOP 'establishment' to support him. If not, he has the money to go it alone.

This is all first impressions and I'd need to learn more about him before voting for him. But seeing guys like Thiel, and with the experience of this election, I'm a little more optimistic that somewhere down the road we will get at least a few adults back into national politics and avoid clusterfucks like the current one.

  27. Thiel also contrasted the interests of people in Silicon Valley — of which he is certainly one — with the interests of the majority of Americans. He repeatedly referred to the country’s “bubbles” and “elites”, particularly “coastal bubbles”, arguing that they have helped shipwreck the country.

While none of this is particularly surprising rhetoric — Trump himself loves to castigate Clinton who has “experience, but it’s bad experience” — it is somewhat jarring to hear about the plight of the working class from a billionaire who said later in the event that Hulk Hogan was a “single-digit millionaire”.

Notably, Thiel barely touched upon some of the fiercest criticism against Trump — his penchant for cajoling his supporters with angry, bigoted and offensive language, his racist policies — and instead referred to “the lie behind the buzzword of diversity”.

Who are the Reichsbürger? They do not actually exist as an organization as such. They are instead a very fragmented and somewhat contradictory scene without a leader or hierarchy.

    ...

Civil servants, who include police officers, swear an oath to the constitution. Reichsbürger reject the constitution because they do not recognize the state on which it is based.

  40. This genre of Podesta email, in which people try to arrange jobs for themselves or their kids, points us toward the most fundamental thing we know about the people at the top of this class: their loyalty to one another and the way it overrides everything else.

Of course Hillary Clinton staffed her state department with investment bankers and then did speaking engagements for investment banks as soon as she was done at the state department.

Of course she appears to think that any kind of bank reform should “come from the industry itself”.

And of course no elite bankers were ever prosecuted by the Obama administration. Read these emails and you understand, with a start, that the people at the top tier of American life all know each other. They are all engaged in promoting one another’s careers, constantly.

Everything blurs into everything else in this world. The state department, the banks, Silicon Valley, the nonprofits, the “Global CEO Advisory Firm” that appears to have solicited donations for the Clinton Foundation.
Executives here go from foundation to government to thinktank to startup. There are honors. Venture capital. Foundation grants. Endowed chairs. Advanced degrees. For them the door revolves. The friends all succeed. They break every boundary.
But the One Big Boundary remains. Yes, it’s all supposed to be a meritocracy. But if you aren’t part of this happy, prosperous in-group – if you don’t have John Podesta’s email address – you’re out.

  47. Who's Huma?

Sorry to interrupt the Best Enabler of a Sociopath Award ceremony but, to recap, Ms. Abedin worked for many years at a journal that promotes Islamic-supremacist ideology that was founded by a top al-Qaeda financier, Abdullah Omar Naseef.
Naseef ran the Rabita Trust, a formally designated foreign terrorist organization under American law. Ms. Abedin and Naseef overlapped at the Journal of Muslim Minority Affairs (JMMA) for at least seven years.
Throughout that time (1996–2003), Ms. Abdein [sic] worked for Hillary Clinton in various capacities. Ms. Abedin’s late father, Dr. Zyed Abedin, was recruited by Naseef to run the JMMA in Saudi Arabia.

The journal was operated under the management of the World Assembly of Muslim Youth, a virulently anti-Semitic and sharia-supremacist organization. When Dr. Abedin died, editorial control of the journal passed to his wife, Dr. Saleha Mahmood Abedin — Huma’s mother.

None of this is news to those paying attention, nor should it be news that the Muslim Brotherhood is mother and father of al Qaeda and therefore ISIS.

Nor, at this point, alas, is it astonishing that Obama and Hillary cozied up to Egypt's Morsi, the Islamofascist candidate of that same Muslim Brotherhood, and other Middle Eastern characters similarly connected. (McCarthy, much more cognizant than I, has more at the link.)

  48. Democratic Panic
The renewed criminal investigation into Hillary's misdeeds -- and how it could affect the election.
    November 1, 2016 Matthew Vadum

Democrats are in panic mode a week out from Election Day as they try to spin away the FBI’s newly announced discovery of a hoard of two-thirds of a million potentially sensitive emails apparently related to Hillary Clinton’s catastrophic tenure as America’s top diplomat.
Partisan hack James Carville is spewing wild conspiracy theories.
I think it is an outrage and I think the fact that the KGB is involved in this election is an outrage and I think the American people ought to take their democracy back regardless of what the press wants to do and the excuses they want to make for [FBI Director James] Comey. That’s what I think.
He added, “this is in effect an attempt to hijack an election. It ought to be called for what it is.”
Just this past July, Comey was praised by Democrats far and wide for his wisdom in opting not to pursue Clinton. There is evidence federal officials tried to hinder various investigations of Clinton and the endlessly corrupt Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton Foundation, which functions as a bribe processing center for would-be president Hillary Clinton.

But Democrats have suddenly flipped sides, denouncing Comey as an enemy of the republic now that he has opened an investigation into the newly discovered emails.

Carville, long known as the “Ragin’ Cajun,” is apoplectic because he thinks these emails could change the dynamics of the election.

The old Clinton hand may be right.

Investigators found 650,000 emails on a laptop computer they believe was used at home by disgraced former Rep. Anthony Weiner (D) and his wife, longtime senior Hillary aide Huma Abedin. The computer is reportedly the same device serial pervert Weiner used to send sexual messages to an underage girl.
“Underlying metadata suggests thousands of those messages could have been sent to or from the private server that Mrs. Clinton used while she was secretary of state, according to people familiar with the matter,” reports the Wall Street Journal. Some of the information emailed may have been classified.
Abedin, who has intergenerational ties to the Muslim Brotherhood, reportedly forwarded sensitive government information to her personal Yahoo email account and may have viewed it on her home laptop.
Over the objections of Attorney General Loretta Lynch, Comey notified Congress of the information about the previously unknown emails at this late stage in the election cycle because after letting Hillary off the hook this summer he was facing a huge uprising among FBI employees, the overwhelming majority of whom are not unprincipled supplicants to power.

    1. Lynch is doing her best to make sure the Department of Justice probe goes nowhere.
Assistant Attorney General for Legislative Affairs Peter J. Kadzik, whom Zero Hedge calls “the best friend” of John Podesta, Hillary’s campaign chairman and former White House chief of staff in Bill Clinton’s administration, is heading up the email probe.

      So the fix is in.

In any event, the prospect of restoring his good name may also have prompted Comey to act.
People are upset at Comey because he took the coward’s way out in the email investigation and is viewed as helping the Clinton team and the Obama White House in their efforts to cover up wrongdoing.

It was back on July 5 Comey announced that despite the massive body of damning evidence accumulating against Clinton he would not recommend charges be brought against the former secretary of state for her use of hacker-friendly homebrew private email servers to conduct official business. Clinton and her aides were “extremely careless” in their handling of classified documents but there was no evidence of criminal intent, he said, even though the relevant national security statute does not require intent. The next day Attorney General Lynch confirmed no charges would be laid against Hillary. Lynch, as everyone now knows, had a clandestine meeting with former President Bill Clinton at a Phoenix airport a week before, at which a corrupt bargain was presumably made.
This internal rebellion in the investigative agency was serious enough that Comey felt he had to act immediately.

“I have some sources in the FBI and the former district attorney's,” commentator Larry Kudlow said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “The FBI is in full revolt right now. The FBI has been in full revolt since the decisions made last summer.”

Ever the Hillary shill, host Chuck Todd corrected Kudlow.

“Not full revolt,” he said. “There's been a lot. I mean it's--there are agents--Let's not say full revolt.”

“All right, a semi-full revolt,” said Kudlow.

    2. Because what I'm getting at is if Comey hadn't said what he said to Congress and the rest of the world, it would have leaked. It would have leaked. That whole building was ready to leak that they had discovered this new source with [Anthony] Weiner and [Huma] Abedin. So, I don't think Comey had much chance here. And I think the FBI is badly divided.”

Meanwhile, the trickle of bad news for Hillary Clinton has turned into a raging flood in the last few days.

Clinton has been directly implicated in a nasty false flag operation against the Donald Trump campaign. Top Democrat operatives Robert Creamer and Scott Foval were caught on undercover video describing their involvement in an elaborate criminal conspiracy involving the use of targeted political violence against political opponents. The euphemism employed was “conflict engagement” which means paying leftist agitators, the homeless and the mentally ill, to cause melees at Trump rallies.
Fomenting violence and physically attacking political opponents was what the fascist Third Reich did, using the Sturmabteilung or S.A., also called brown shirts and storm troopers.

Longtime Democrat pollster and campaign consultant Doug Schoen, a familiar face on Fox News Channel, announced he could no longer in good conscience support Clinton’s candidacy.

“I’m deeply concerned that we’ll have a constitutional crisis if she’s elected,” he said Sunday. “If the secretary of state wins, we will have a president under criminal investigation, with [top aide] Huma Abedin under criminal investigation.”

Republican Donald Trump is closing the gap in national polls of likely voters.

Clinton’s unfavorability rating in polls now exceeds Trump’s. She’s at 60 percent; he’s at 58 percent.
Former New York mayor and leading Trump surrogate Rudy Giuliani said over the weekend that enough evidence has surfaced from WikiLeaks and the FBI to indict Clinton for racketeering. Bill Clinton “does the speeches, they put the money in the pocket, she does the favors in the government,” said Giuliani, a former federal prosecutor. “It all links up. Why did they destroy 33,000 emails? Because it shows the link.”

Influential liberal journalist Ron Fournier threw Hillary under the bus. Mrs. Clinton got “a secret server” to protect what the Washington Post called “the ‘circle of enrichment,’” he said.
If Hillary Clinton wins next week, media outlets across America will have to hire extra investigative journalists to handle all the corruption exposes that will follow.

  52. Donald Trump, Prince Hal of Bronx, ...I know you not, old man. Get down on your knees and pray, for white hair doesn’t sit well on a fool and a clown. I have dreamed about such a man for a long time: a man so swollen with excess, so old and so obscene. But now that I have awakened, I despise that dream. Let your body lessen, and your manners increase; leave behind your overindulgence, and know that the grave gapes three times as wide for you than any other man. Don’t answer me with a foolish joke. Do not assume that I am what I was; for God knows, I have turned my back on my former self, and I will do the same to those who were my companions. When you hear that I am as I was, then come to me, and you will once again be what you were: the teacher and nurse to my wild, riotous ways.
Until then, I banish you, on pain of death, as I have done to the other men who once misled me.

    6. It's the gods, working through the Judge -

Now he's being condemned by the Democrats and the MSM for not saying why. We'll get to the reason why he's not in a minute. But, first, the granting of the warrant application means several important and new things:

      1) A federal judge supervising a grand jury has now made a finding, based on FBI affidavits which present evidence gathered during the preliminary Hillary inquiry (the one which the FBI director stated had been closed back in July), that there's probable cause to believe that a federal crime was committed in connection with Mrs. Clinton's use of a private email server.

We still, however, don't know what crime(s) are suspected to have been committed. Or by whom.

      2) The FBI can use this new grant of grand jury authority to investigate Mrs. Clinton's use of a private email server for the first time to issues subpoenaes to obtain testimony from witnesses and compel the production of documents and things. The Bureau and DOJ can, furthermore, use the judge's probable cause finding to support further warrant applications.

This means that, if DOJ authorizes it, a United States attorney now has the ability for the first time to put subpoenaed witnesses before a grand jury. There, without their lawyer in the room, they may be questioned under oath by a federal prosecutor. If the witnesses take the Fifth – and the witness's lawyer is allowed to sit outside the grand jury room and be consulted by the witness before answering a question, they can be immunized and, if they still refuse to testify, a judge can jail them indefinitely until they change their mind.

Huma Abedin, according to prior reporting, received a grant of immunity during the FBI's preliminary investigation. During the first Clinton presidency, Clinton allies chose jail over cooperating with the federal grand jury investigating both Clintons.

We may get to see if a new generation of Clinton allies are willing to do the same.

      3) The liberal media's reporting that the Hillarygate email server investigation has not, in fact, been "reopened" is totally false.

      Why?

Because, not only is the probe reopened, it has been upgraded and expanded. It has been upgraded from a preliminary inquiry to a formal criminal investigation with grand jury power. That also means that, at least at the level of the federal grand jury itself, assistant U.S. attorneys assigned to that grand jury are now for the first time formally involved.

In other words: the Beast is now fully awake.

      4) This weekend's development potentially escalates the threat to Mrs. Clinton. While several other procedural steps and processes are necessary, it is a federal grand jury, not the FBI, which issues indictments. The FBI -- using the the grand jury to obtain testimony, conduct searches and compel the production of documents and things - investigates crimes. The U.S. Attorneys, acting though the grand jury, charge and prosecute those persons whom the grand jury finds probable cause to believe have committed those crimes.

      5) This weekend's development also means that, for the first time in American history, a candidate for President of the United States is likely now a subject/target of a federal grand jury investigation.

  54. Pollster: “The Dam is About to Break” on Hillary

Voters abandoning establishment candidate in droves

    Paul Joseph Watson - October 31, 2016 3422 Comments

According to former Jimmy Carter pollster Pat Caddell, Hillary Clinton is hemorrhaging support as a result of the FBI announcement and we could see a repeat of the 1980 election when anti-establishment candidate Ronald Reagan won in a landslide.

Caddell drew comparisons to the 1980 presidential race, which was close right up until the final days before the electorate abandoned Carter and rallied around the anti-establishment candidate, leading to Reagan taking victory in a landslide.

Caddell noted that Carter’s entire campaign had been built around portraying Reagan as unqualified and “dangerous,” in a similar vein to how Clinton has demonized Trump.

Caddell explained that the polling between Reagan and Carter was close up until the final weekend when “the dam broke” and Reagan shot ahead by ten points.

Stating that he had been looking at the data regarding unfavorability ratings for both Clinton and Trump, Caddell noted that since Friday, large numbers of voters had been structurally “moving against the status quo – the incumbent who is essentially Hillary Clinton.”

As an ABC News poll found, Hillary’s unfavorability rating just hit its highest ever mark.
Caddell said that the latest information regarding the FBI re-opening its investigation into Hillary’s email scandal was the “popper” that “could open up significantly before it’s over,” meaning it would be the decisive factor that enables Trump to defeat Hillary.

  55. Pop Goes The Weasel

My mother taught me how to sew,
And how to thread the needle,
    Every time my finger slips,
    Pop! goes the weasel.

You may try to sew and sew,
    And never make something regal,
So roll it up and let it go,
    Pop! goes the weasel.

I went a-hunting in the woods,
    It wasn’t very legal,
The dog and I were caught with the goods,
    Pop! goes the weasel.

    I said I didn’t hunt or sport,
The warden looked at my beagle,
He said to tell it to the court,
    Pop! goes the weasel.
