COLLECTIVE MADNESS

“Soft despotism is a term coined by Alexis de Tocqueville describing the state into which a country overrun by "a network of small complicated rules" might degrade. Soft despotism is different from despotism (also called 'hard despotism') in the sense that it is not obvious to the people."

Camel Bones and Jerusalem: Archeology Shows Bible written Late, Full of Errors

There is nothing more convenient, time-tested  and used throughout the ages  by all the tyrants, agents  and political manipulators, killers and ego maniacs than the myths of  religion, god, country and national self-deception. None is better or worse than the others. It is a proven formula designed to assign privilege and power to the master manipulators.

There are a few  independent  spirits available to throw the BS towel at the crap merchants:

Good to see another piece of hard evidence getting some publicity. In fact, most of the conventional religion-based content of the Pentateuch has now either been undermined by archaeology, or is on very shaky ground. No evidence for tribes wandering in the desert, or indeed for the exile in Egypt. A number of the towns mentioned in connection with the exile/return saga would have been well known to those hearing the stories in the time they were written in the mid-1st millennium, but the excavation evidence indicates they weren’t inhabited at the time in the second millennium when the events were supposed to have taken place.
All societies seem to like to have a foundation myth- in this case, the evidence is very much that they wrote themselves a past. However, despite all the evidence, there seems to be a general reluctance to address the implications this evidence has for the religions practiced by the peoples of the Book.

One of the major mistakes of literalists and religious fundamentalists in all religions is that they read their scriptures as statements of fact. The Bible is not a history book. It is more akin to literature and poetry, to the tales of Sir Gawain and the Green Knights, to the Avestan stories about an ancient kingdom of Jamshid or stories about King Arthur than to any proper historical narrative.
In fact, there might be more historical truths in the myths about King Arthur who was a legendary British leader of the early 6th century AD than in the tales about Abraham, David and Solomon whose alleged existence is shrouded by mystery and myths. The same goes for the sojourn in Egypt and the exodus. It is important to bear in mind that the oldest record of the complete text of the Old Testament survives in a Greek translation called the Septuagint dating from the 4th century AD and the oldest extant manuscripts of the Bible upon which modern editions are based date from the 9th century AD. In other words, old tales were transmitted by the word of mouth before they were written down hundreds of years after the events that they refer to.
The Avesta, the Vedas, the Bible, the Koran and other ancient religious texts are fascinating accounts of the beliefs and superstitions of ancient people, but they seldom provide an accurate account of past events or a guide for modern life.

      The interesting thing?

There is not one historic example of a indigenous "arab palestinian" site.

Love the way he plays on words... " oldest record of the complete text of the Old Testament "

      LOL

There are mentions of the Hebrews in Egyptian archeology remains.

Sorry if a complete, copy of our torah was not available with a date stamp but the authors lack of understanding of the fidelity of the Torah speaks volumes.

Once again he mentions the "old testament" like I should be impressed?

    5. The Dead Sea Scroll collection contains, in the aggregate, every book of the current Tanakh other than Ruth. Dating of the materials puts them in the 2-3 C BCE range. This would put them in the same ballpark as the Alexandrian Pentateuch (Torah in Alexandrian Greek).

The Septuagint (LXX) is the Tanakh in Greek plus 11 works not canonical to Jews - 49 books.

The Jewish use of "G-d" is, among other things, a sign of respect; something sadly lacking these days. Its slavish use is intentional, Jews are G-d's slaves.

    6. Orthodox Jews are said to take the yoke of the Torah. This business of work, implied by the yoke, was highly offensive to both Paul and Luther, who gave primacy to faith.

St. James was a big believer in the yoke. "Faith without works is dead...Show me your faith without works and will show you my faith by my works..." Luther would have excised the book of James if possible, fuming about its "Judaizing" effect on good Christians.

As we see all over North Africa, the Levant and Southwestern Asia, Muslims are all about work.

A great update on so-called Biblical archaeology – so-called because so much of it turns out to be completely wrong, and it doesn’t take an Israeli archaeologist to tell us that. It has been known for quite some time that the literary and archaeological record of the Bible simply fail, for the most part, to correspond. Robin Lane Fox’s fine book, The Unauthorized Version: Truth and Fiction in the Bible, is an excellent piece of scholarship that explores the difficulties one faces in attempting to connect history with biblical literature.
As an example: the gospel of Luke implies that Herod the Great was king of Judaea at the same time the Roman governor of Syria was Publius Sulpicius Quirinius. Well, good luck with all that – Herod had been dead for a decade once Quirinius undertook his governorship. Again, Luke states that Caesar Augustus (d. AD 14) ordered all the world to be taxed. Again, good luck with that: the empire was not universally taxed until Caracalla (d. 217) granted (near) universal Roman citizenship.
As for biblical anachronism, this is a phenomenon familiar to any historian of ancient Rome who deals with early Roman history. The great Roman historian Livy, for example, emphasizes in his early narrative of Roman history the struggle between the nobility and the plebeians, a conflict that that was far more acute in recent Roman history, during the time of Livy and the two or three generations immediately proceeding him, and probably colored his narrative of events two to five centuries before his own day.
The problems reconstructing the past using even ancient historians, such as Thucydides and Polybius, who are somewhat respected for their relative accuracy, are legion; to try and build a modern nation-state based on an ancient source is the task of a fool who is wedded to what is tantamount to mumbo-jumbo.
By the way, the attempt to nation build based on ancient texts has been done before. That text was the Germania by the greatest of the Roman historians, Tacitus, and that nation was the modern Germany. The work contrasts at key points Germanic virtue, probity, and freedom, against Roman decadence. The text was read in some circles as proof of German superiority over inferior peoples, and we all know how that turned out (see C. B. Krebs, A Most Dangerous Book, [New York, 2011]).

    1. Your above post deals exclusively with the "new testament" and not the Jewish Bible or Scriptures.

The term "Bible" is used with very loose direction.

The Old Testament is not the Jewish Torah.

The new testament is the Christian Bible.

Jews don't call their book the "bible"

  3. The ongoing comments of an event that occurred in our own lifetime, the Israeli murderous assault on the US Liberty, is an apt example of how events are distorted for political purposes. If we cannot trust the accounts of a well documented contemporary event, how can we believe the nonsense about religious events?

The nonsense about writing “god” as “g-d” is particularly galling to me. It only emphasizes the blatant metaphor of god as slave master and the obedient slave and the faithful servant.

    3. some fun points from the NSA:

A brief look at the Middle Eastern situation during early 1967 is necessary for an appre- ciation of the mounting political and military tensions that ultimately led to the U.S. decision to position the V.S.S. Liberty in the eastern Mediterranean.

so the NSA tells us they PUT the LIBRTY there.

      (U) Within the Arab world, President Gamal Abdel Nasser of the United Arab Republic (U.A.R.) sought to overcome opposition to his leader- ship by the monarchies of Saudi Arabia and Jordan." In late January 1967, when U.A.R. aircraft bombed Najran in Saudi Arabia, relations between the two countries were further strained

As the tempo of the civil war within Yemen increased, V.A.R. aircraft dropped poison-gas bombs on Yemeni Royalists on 22 April. (WMD used by egypt on yemen)

      Delete
    4. On 17 May, the D.A.R. requested that the United Nations Emergency Force (DNEF) withdraw from the Gaza Strip. The UN. complied, and Nasser immediately began moving troops into the Sinai. This decision by the D.A.R. government - presumably encouraged by the Soviets and Syrians - to move its armed forces up to the Sinai armistice line thus reestablished the direct Egyptian-Israeli military confrontation which had been the major immediate cause of the 1956 war. 10

      Delete
    5. Five days later on 23 May 1967, the D.A.R. blockaded the Strait of Tiran, thereby closing the Gulf of Aqaba to Israeli shipping and prohibiting unescorted tankers of any flag from reaching the Israeli port of Elat. This action reproduced another element that had brought on the 1956 war. Because Israel had repeatedly asserted that she would go to war if the UA.R. blocked the Gulf, NSA raised its Alfa to a Sigint Readiness "Bravo Crayon" for all Middle East communications. II
      (D) The D.A.R. blockade precipitated quiet but full-scale mobilization by Israel. Arab forces were repositioned, and on 30 May Egypt and Jordan signed a five-year military alliance, completing Arab encirclement of Israel. Shortly thereafter, Soviet naval vessels entered the Mediterranean through the Dardenelles. 12

    6. so egypt and jordan plotted to attack Israel...

    7. Ah the act of war by Egypt!!!

On 1 June, as pressure to open the Strait of Tiran built within Israel, Moshe Dayan was appointed Israeli Minister of Defense. The next day, Friday, 2 June, the United States and the United Kingdom issued a joint statement declaring the Gulf of Aqaba an international waterway to which all states were entitled free passage.

    8. The United Nations called for a cease-
fire. Israel accepted provided the other belligerents
complied. On 7 June, Jordan agreed to the cease-fire,
but the UA.R. rejected it. The following day (8 June),
however, both the D.A.R. and Syria accepted the
cease-fire. At approximately 1400 hours this same
date the US.S. Liberty was attacked.

      Delete
    9. On 9 June, following an Israeli charge
that Syria had violated the cease-fire, Israeli troops
and armored forces smashed deep into Syria. By the
time both sides agreed, on 10 June, to observe the
UN. cease-fire, the entire southwestern corner of
Syria was in Israeli hands, including the Golan Heights
which dominated Israeli territory in the Jordan Valley
and around the Sea of Galilee.

    10. So Israel was at war with Egypt, Jordan, Iraq and Syria.

    11. So MY point that the NSA ordered the USS Liberty into a war zone was accurate.

Looking back upon the Liberty inci- dent today, Americans might well question why the U.S. introduced an intelligence ship into a war theater in which Americans were not direct participants and expose that ship to the risk it did.

      Dear Quick, kiss my ass................

WiO Right, QUIRK full of shit.

    12. So SPYING on Israel was important to the NSA

The decision to deploy, it should be noted, came before the Six Day War erupted. It came after careful NSA consideration of customer requirements for intelligence from this troubled region, of technical factors which would govern the collection of Middle East communications, and of the need to develop technical Sigint data in the event future U.S. involvement in Middle East hostilities should bring a requirement to support U.S. forces. The NSA decision to request the Liberty's deployment on 23 May, the day it raised its Sigint readiness condition to Bravo-Crayon, was, moreover, only one of many actions taken to improve Sigint collection, processing, and reporting in the critical weeks before the Six Day War as the NSA action office, G6, began a round-the-clock Sigint operation at Fort Meade.I

    15. The notion of Judaism as a “race”, rather than a religion of various races, is without foundation.

The results of a recently published study by Israeli-American geneticist Dr Eran Elhaik at John Hopkins University have scientifically and genetically validated Sand’s research

The idea of a “nation race” was progressively developed and reinforced over centuries among segregated Jewish communities in Europe.

With the rise of German nationalism in the 19th century, Jewish historian Heinrich Graetz “retrospectively” crafted a discrete identity for the ghettoized people –  mapping their origin to an old kingdom and wandering exiles.
The exiles tales transpired from a Christian myth of “divine punishment” imposed on Jews for rejecting the new religion.

The parable is likely to have originated from the Old Testament story of Jews wandering the desert for disobeying God and worshipping a golden calf.

Christians propagated the concept of exile to lure “disobeying” Jews to the new religion, becoming their saviour from another eternal banishment.

Modern political Zionism, which otherwise rejects the Christian Bible, adopted the untested story of “Jewish exile” to establish a mythical linkage between European Jews and the Middle East.

But Jewish history tells us that the Romans did not expel the original Jews from Palestine when they crushed the Simon bar Kokhba revolt in 136 AD but instead barred them only from city of Jerusalem – and even then they were allowed to visit it during Tisha B’Av, the annual fasting day on the ninth day of the month of Av in the Hebrew calendar.

Under Christianity and during the Roman Empire a large number of native Jews converted to Christianity and, with the advent of Islam, most adopted the new religion and assimilated under the new power.

In addition to the descendants of the Canaanites, the original denizens before patriarch Abraham’s arrival from Mesopotamia, Sand concludes that today’s Muslim and Christian Palestinians are actually the true progenies of the original Jews.

  7. TEHRAN, Iran (AP) -- A senior Iranian naval commander says his country has sent several warships to the Atlantic Ocean, close to U.S. maritime borders for the first time.

The commander of Iran's Northern Navy Fleet, Admiral Afshin Rezayee Haddad, is quoted by the official IRNA news agency as saying Saturday that the vessels have already begun the journey to the Atlantic Ocean via waters near South Africa.

Iranian officials said last month that the fleet consisted of a destroyer and a logistic helicopter carrier, which will be on a three-month mission.

Haddad says the fleet is approaching U.S. maritime borders for the first time. The Islamic Republic considers the move as a response to U.S. naval deployments near its own coastlines. The U.S. Navy's 5th fleet is based in nearby Bahrain.

Jack and Jill ran up the hill
To fetch a pail of water

We know that if a fool looks into a poem, a good book, a fairy tale, a nursery song, one cannot expect a genius to look back out.

With proper exegesis and imagination a whole spiritual philosophy can be created out of this.

Why are they running up a hill?

To FETCH a Pail of Water?

Fetch seems to imply a getting, retaining and bringing back.

Why a pail, rather than a drink, sip, or bottle?

    Why water?

What meaning does water have here? Is it for drinking, brushing the teeth, washing? What?

Water is not often found in pools on tops of hills - why are they not running, or walking, or sliding down a hill to get a pail of water from the creek?

Just who are 'Jack' and 'Jill'?

They seem to have more spunk than, say, q13 and Jenny, whose mottos, respectively, are "Life Sucks" and "We are all doomed, and deserve to be doomed".

I don't see Jack and Jill complaining at this point. They seem concentrated on doing something extraordinary, running up a hill to fetch a pail of water.

Thus the beginning of an exegesis......

  15. Welcome to Russia: Police choir sings “Get Lucky” at Sochi opening ceremonies

posted at 8:01 pm on February 7, 2014 by Mary Katharine Ham

A group of men with a lifetime of Eastern European authoritarianism to their names and the epaulettes and mustaches to prove it. Singing Daft Punk. The official name of this group is the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs Choir. Ahh, Russia.

The spectacle is so wonderfully weird as to look like a Will Ferrel skit. It’s not ironic(?), but it looks ironic. Ironically. America’s going to love it, as the world did the first time around, when this went viral. Click to watch:

    Police choir

What’s the best outcome for Sochi? I’ve been reveling in the widely publicized inconveniences of journalists— no shower curtains, hot water, basic cleanliness—because I’ve got to believe they’re making Vladimir Putin wince at every link. Knocking him down a peg on the world stage is great. Showing how corruption and graft have made Sochi the most expensive (and likely among the least impressive) games in years is a plus. Doing all of that while praying that none of it devolves quite to the point of major terrorist attack is ideal.

Update: I meant to applaud Russian snowboarder Alexey Sobolev for this pretty badass move.

Alexey Sobolev took part in the slopestyle qualifying on Thursday and as he waited for his scores, he turned the top of his snowboard to camera. The illustration on his board was that of a knife-wielding woman in a black ski mask. It’s the same outfit worn by the feminist rock group Pussy Riot, whose members were jailed after a show an impromptu show in a Moscow cathedral last year…

Russian media asked Sobolev whether his board was meant to be a protest statement and he danced around the question.

“Anything is possible,” he said. “I wasn’t the person who designed the board.”

It may all be a happy accident, which Sobolev seems to be embracing, to his credit. The artist who designed the board says it’s not an homage to Pussy Riot, but “It’s too bad I didn’t offend the Russian government on purpose though.”

    8. "Late in the afternoon on Sunday, March 21, 1976, Sabich had returned from a day of skiing in Aspen and was preparing to shower. He was shot in the bathroom of his Starwood home by his live-in girlfriend, singer-actress Claudine Longet. The two had met at a pro-celebrity event four years earlier in 1972 in Bear Valley, California, and had quickly become an item. She claimed the gun discharged accidentally, when he was showing her how it worked. He was hit in the abdomen and lost a significant amount of blood before an ambulance arrived. He died on the way to Aspen Valley Hospital with Longet at his side, shortly after 5 pm.[10] Spider Sabich was 31 years and 2 months old.
Longet, 34, was arrested and charged with the shooting. At the trial, Longet repeated the claim that the gun had accidentally fired when Sabich was showing her how to use it.

The Pitkin County Sheriffs, who made the arrest, made two procedural errors that aided Longet's defense: without warrants, they took a blood sample from her and confiscated her diary.

According to prosecutors, the sample showed the presence of cocaine in her blood, and her diary reportedly contradicted her claim that her relationship with Sabich had not soured. In addition, the gun (which had a defect requiring it to be fired several times before it finally discharged) was mishandled by non-weapons experts.
As they were unable to cite any of the disallowed material, prosecutors did use the autopsy report to suggest that when Sabich was struck, he was bent over, facing away, and at least 6 feet (1.8 m) from Longet, which would be inconsistent with the position and relative distance of someone demonstrating the operation of a firearm.

      The jury convicted her of a lesser charge—misdemeanor criminal negligence—and sentenced her to pay a small fine and spend 30 days in jail.[11] The judge allowed Longet to choose the days she served, believing that this arrangement would allow her to spend the most time with her children, and she chose to work off most of her sentence on weekends. (Critical reaction to the verdict and sentencing was exacerbated when she subsequently vacationed with her defense attorney, Ron Austin, who was married at the time;
Longet and Austin later married and still live in Aspen.)
After the criminal trial, the Sabich family initiated civil proceedings to sue Longet.

The case was eventually resolved out of court, with the proviso that Longet never tell or write about her story."

    9. "Sabich is buried at Westwood Hills Memorial Park in Placerville, California, since there was no cemetery in Kyburz at the time of his death in 1976. Kidd delivered the eulogy at the brief service, with former coach Beattie and former teammates as pallbearers.[12] The presence of Claudine Longet and her supporters, including her ex-husband Andy Williams and their children together, at Spider's memorial service in Aspen two days later was awkward for the Sabich family.[13]
Spider is buried next to his older sister, Mary Frances Sabich, a physician who died of brain cancer in 1988 at the age of 45.
Their younger brother Steve died of melanoma in 2004 at age 57, following the deaths of their parents.[14]"

  17. The Invention of the Jewish People
is a book written by Shlomo Sand, an Israeli professor of history at the University of Tel Aviv.

The author wasn’t probing a belief system but Zionist fabrications of a spurious common lineage for people of the Jewish faith.

Sand argues that the idea of Jews having a common ethnic identity is implausible because,
as with Christianity and Islam, Judaism was originally a “proselytising religion”.

The notion of Judaism as a “race”, rather than a religion of various races, is without foundation.

The recent study by John Hopkins geneticist Dr Elhaik confirms...
that the common genome structure of the European Jew gravitated towards an origin in old Khazaria.

“The majority of Jews do not have Middle Eastern genetic component,” he told Israeli newspaper Haaretz.

Founded on a mélange of myths and manufactured historical tales,
Israel has failed the archaeological test of time and is now exposed by DNA science.

Today’s genetics prove unequivocally that in 1948 “the children of the original Jews” were replaced by converts ...
With no roots in the Middle East.

  24. MEXICO CITY — More than a week after surviving a plane crash, the injured Mexican militia leader Jose Manuel Mireles rejected the government’s call for his movement to disarm, vowing to fight on until the drug cartel leaders in his area have been arrested and the state of Michoacan establishes the rule of law.

Mireles, a 55-year-old surgeon who leads the militia movement that has spread rapidly over the past year across Michoacan and seized territory from the Knights Templar drug cartel, spoke to reporters late Monday from a safe house after being treated at a private hospital in Mexico City.

Mireles is recovering from injuries suffered when his small airplane crashed this month as he was returning home from Guadalajara. He said he had seven broken ribs, two fractured vertebrae and a dislocated jaw. His neck was covered in bruises, his right eye was swollen, and he walked with a cane. Wearing white Crocs, flannel pajama pants and a gray sweater, he spoke slowly and sometimes paused to hold his chest, seemingly in pain.

“I’m not well,” he said. “I have many health problems that must be solved. And I hope God allows me to live and emerge from this situation and to see the culmination of the fight that we began.”

Mireles denied reports that he had authorized his militia to disarm. He said the militia controls 28 towns in Michoacan, or one-quarter of the state. He said he eventually wants his followers to “return to our communities and go back to our daily activities.” But he said that first they must stop the cartels from “charging protection fees, committing executions, kidnapping, extortion, rape.”

“When they detain the seven heads of the Knights Templar, then we can return to our communities,” he said. “We are willing to disarm ourselves when the authorities live up to their responsibilities.”

“If Manuel Mireles falls,” he said, “the movement should not fall.”

The three Sabich children (Mary, Spider, and Steve) learned to ski at Edelweiss ski area, about a dozen miles (20 km) up the highway, a mile past Twin Bridges. They attended a one-room school in Kyburz, Silver Fork Elementary, and went to class in the summer and skied during the winter, frequently arriving in their father's patrol car.

Spider and Steve were altar boys at the Catholic church across the highway from the ski area (Chapel of Our Lady of the Sierras), and would often strap on their skis immediately following Mass. Their ski coach was Lutz Aynedter, a downhill champion from the 1940s who emigrated from Germany to California after the war.

He taught the Sabich boys European-style ski racing, and Spider and Steve became junior stars among the fearless young racers of Edelweiss, who became known as the "Highway 50 Boys."

  32. Christian Arab IDF soldier: “I would sacrifice my life for the sake of the State of Israel”

Robert Spencer Feb 9, 2014 at 3:00am anti-dhimmitude, Israel, Palestinian jihad Jihad Watch

This video gives the lie to the “Palestinian” jihad propaganda about Israel being an “apartheid” state, as well as to the all too common characterization of the Israeli defense against the “Palestinian” jihad as the “Arab/Israeli conflict.” Many Christian Arabs do not support the jihad against Israel, and many non-Arab Muslims do support it. The conflict that Israel faces is not with Arabs as such, but with Islamic jihadists who believe that its existence is an insult to Islam.

“Female Arab Soldier: ‘I Came to Serve My Country and My Home,’” from the IDF Blog, February 4 (thanks to Marc):

WATCH: Monaliza Abdo is Arab, Christian, Israeli and a brave defender of Jews and minorities alike. She wasn’t required to enlist in the Israeli army, but her determination to protect Israel motivated her to volunteer.

As a fighter on Israel’s southern border, she rose through the ranks to become a commander, teaching soldiers how to combat terrorism and other threats. Just over a month ago, she honorably completed three years of service – one more than the required number for Israeli women.

We had the chance to join Monaliza on the day of her release from the IDF. In this video, she speaks to us entirely in Arabic, explaining her commitment to serve the State of Israel and protect all of its citizens. “I keep the country of Israel safe, not only for the Jews but for the Arabs, too,” she says. “I came [to the IDF] to serve my country and my home.”

According to a law enforcement sources, Bieber and his father were "extremely abusive verbally" to a flight attendant during a flight on the chartered Gulfstream IV aircraft from Ontario, Canada, to Teterboro Airport in New Jersey last Friday in advance of the Super Bowl.
Justin Bieber and his father refused a pilot's repeated warnings to stop smoking pot on the flight, according to a report by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, which was read to CNN.

The pilots asked the flight attendant to remain in the cockpit to protect her from the alleged abusive behavior, the report says.

Law enforcement sources told CNN that the pilots donned oxygen masks to keep them from inhaling the pot smoke. The pilots were concerned the smoke would result in them failing drug tests, law enforcement sources told CNN.

  36. Israel Destroying Emergency Shelters Of Home Demolition Victims

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has suspended distribution of tents and shelter materials to Palestinian victims of Israeli home demolitions in the occupied West Bank’s Jordan Valley because Israeli occupation forces are habitually destroying or confiscating them.

    1. Another similarity, 'tween Israel and China ...

Mao hailed the Red Guards' actions as "Very good indeed!" and ordered the nation to support them.

He encouraged the Red Guards to pick on a wider range of victims in order to increase the terror.

Prominent writers, artists, scholars, and most other top professionals,
who had been privileged under the Communist regime,
were now categorically condemned as 'reactionary bourgeois authorities'.

With the help of some of these people's colleagues who hated them for various reasons,
ranging from fanaticism to envy, the Red Guards began to abuse them.

Then there were the old 'class enemies': former landlords and capitalists,
      people with Kuomintang connections,
those condemned in previous political campaigns like the 'rightists' and their children.”

WATCH: Settlers assault Israeli in West Bank, tell soldiers to shoot

      By Mairav Zonszein

On Saturday morning, Israeli Ta’ayush activists accompanied Palestinian residents of the village of Shweika in the South Hebron Hills to their grazing and farm lands in a valley near the illegal Eshtamoa outpost. According to Guy, a veteran activist and documenter, settlers and Israeli soldiers have been obstructing or preventing access to the land in recent weeks, despite the fact that Israeli authorities recognize the valley as private Palestinian land and have restricted any Israelis from entering it.

Just before 11 a.m., 10-15 settlers came down from the outpost into the valley – most of them with their faces covered to avoid identification – and began throwing stones, some of them using slingshots. As can be seen in several videos below, three of the settlers violently assaulted one activist, with one of the settlers using a club. Watch the second video to the very end: You can see a soldier slowly making his way up to the settlers who run off after the attack. He did not try and stop them, does not run after them, and in fact pats one on the shoulder in a friendly, not disciplinary manner. This kind of dynamic not only makes the double standard in treatment of Palestinians clear, but shows that it is in fact the settlers who run the show in these parts.

Why not? Every single G-ddamned thread is hijacked by the Conga Line. Israeli Demolition of Palestinian Homes at Five-Year High

RAMALLAH, West Bank — Aid agencies working in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem expressed alarm on Friday at a spike in Israeli demolitions of Palestinian property coinciding with renewed U.S.-backed peace negotiations.

The statement by 25 aid organizations said the number of demolitions increased by almost half and the displacement of Palestinians by nearly three-quarters between July 2013, when the talks began, and the end of the year, compared to the same period in 2012.

Of the 663 Palestinian structures torn down last year, the highest number in five years, 122 were built with international donor aid, the groups said.

The International Red Cross announced this week it would stop delivering tents to Palestinians made homeless by demolitions in the Jordan border region of the occupied West Bank, citing Israeli obstruction and confiscation of aid.

"International and local aid organizations have faced increasingly severe restrictions in responding to the needs created by the unlawful demolition of civilian property, in violation of Israel's obligation to facilitate the effective delivery of aid," wrote the groups, which included Oxfam and Christian Aid.

Such attacks are often effective distractions ("red herrings"), because the opponents feel it necessary to defend themselves, thus being distracted from the topic of the debate.

Egypt military: Airstrikes kill 13 Sinai militants

Overnight, explosions resounded for miles in the Sinai town of Sheikh Zuweyid near the border with the Gaza Strip, as Apache helicopters fired dozens of missiles, witnesses said. Military officials said the strikes targeted houses, shops, vehicles and other gathering points suspected of being used by militants.

In a decade, the incident will be relegated to an overlooked footnote.

Such is the hope of Israel and its surrogates here.

    Israel 13 others 0?

    1. US Navy Court of Inquiry. Stylized cover up with limited authority, truncated timeframe, restricted witnesses, and pre-determined end. Basically, garbage in-garbage out.

    2. Israeli Government Investigation. Is it any wonder that Israel, a country playing the innocent card for 45 years, would determine that there was no criminal intent on Israel's fault and that the Liberty shared responsibility for the attack by 'failure to fly a flag' and 'trying to hide' (in the middle of the ocean on a clear and sunny day).

    3. JCS Report, June 1967. Investigation into the mishandling of several messages that led to the failure of the Liberty to receive the message to withdraw further from the Egyptian coast. Did not discuss the attack itself nor culpability.

    4. CIA Report, June 13, 1967. Interim report completed 5 days after the attack. Reported, "Our best judgment [is]that the attack ...was a mistake." No investigation was conducted. No first hand evidence was collected. No witnesses to the events that day were called. Richard Helm, the CIA director at the time later reported in his autobiography that the attack was planned and deliberate.

    5. Clark Clifford Report of July 18, 1967. Clifford was directed by LBJ to review the Court of Inquiry and the interim CIA report but not to make an independent inquiry. Not an 'investigation', merely a summary of two previous reports. The report reached no conclusions and did not exonerate Israel as some here claim. Clifford later wrote that he regarded the attack as deliberate.

    6. and 7, two Senate Investigations. The Committee on Foreign Relations meeting of 1967 and the Senate Armed Services Committee meeting of 1968 were hearings on other matters and were used mainly as forums for castigating the administration. Typical questions, "Why can't we get the truth of this?" They were not 'investigations' but merely budget hearings. There were no conclusions regarding the attack and they certainly did not exonerate Israel.

    8. House Appropriations Committee meetings of April and May 1968. Budget committee meeting that also explored the question of lost messages intended for the Liberty. Not an ‘investigation’ of nor did it draw conclusions on the attack.

    9. House Armed Services Committee Review of Communications, May 1971. Communication failures were discussed. No conclusions draw regarding the attack.

    10. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence 1979/1981. Mr. Cristol claims that the committee investigated the attack and exonerated Israel, yet he has been unable to provide minutes, a report, or other evidence of such an investigation. Rules of the select committee require that any committee investigation be followed by a report. There is no report of such an investigation; ergo, there was no such investigation. http://www.ifamericansknew.org/us_ints/ul-okeefe.html

    11. National Security Agency Report, 1981. After James Ennes put out his book Assault on the Liberty, the NSA completed a detailed account of the attack. The report drew no conclusion. The report did not exonerate Israel.

    12. State of Israel – IDF History Department Report of June 1982. Provided a summary of the Ram Ron and Yerushaimi reports [see 2 above]. And naturally, came to the same conclusion.

    13. House Armed services Committee Investigation of 1991/1992. The US Government reports that there has been no such investigation. There is no record of any such investigation.

As far as I have been able to find, Mr. Christol, the author of the ’13 Investigations’ meme has never responded to claims he misrepresented these ‘investigations’ as all exonerating Israel in the attack on the Liberty.
