COLLECTIVE MADNESS

“Soft despotism is a term coined by Alexis de Tocqueville describing the state into which a country overrun by "a network of small complicated rules" might degrade. Soft despotism is different from despotism (also called 'hard despotism') in the sense that it is not obvious to the people."

Netanyahu and His Cronies Planning His War in October?

Netanyahu Calling Early Elections for Possible October War With Iran?

not worried about gordon browning itA leading Israeli TV commentator suggests Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu could be calling elections nearly a full year ahead of schedule in order to open a window for a military campaign against Iran’s nuclear program in October, while President Obama is in the heat of his re-election campaign.
The Times of Israel reports:
In the weeks immediately after that vote, said well-connected commentator Amnon Abramovich on the top-rated Channel 2 news, Netanyahu will head a transition government at home and have no need to worry about voter sentiment, and he knows that President Barack Obama will be paralyzed by the US presidential campaign…
After the September elections, which all polls show Netanyahu winning easily, he will head a transition government for several weeks while a new coalition is formed. During that period, Netanyahu “will not be beholden to the voters,” and will be free to take decisions on Iran that many Israelis might not support, Abramovich said.
Netanyahu’s decision to trigger early elections took many Israeli political observers by surprise, but does come on the heels of increasing opposition to war with Iran over its nuclear program from thepublic, from the intelligence community, as well as from former government and military officials.
Netanyahu’s Likud Party is still expected by most to win the re-election amid a fractured and lackluster opposition. The Likud-led coalition also currently includes the second-largest party in the Knesset, Kadima, headed by Defense Minister Ehud Barak. Kadima was formed in 2005 by more moderate members of Likud and more conservative members of the Labor Party. Since then Kadima has largely eclipsed the Labor Party in size.

  1. Netanyahu, the cynical cur that his is, has calculated that Obama, craven for re-election at any price will be dragged into a war against Iran because of our hideously butt-boy relationship with Israel. Netanyahu has recognized a full feathered fellow shit bird in Obama and I fear he is right. Maybe Ron Paul does have an outside chance.

    1. Fuck you deuce.

Israel has every right to look after it's national security.

America under Obama will do nothing.

But if you are lucky? Obama will allow Iran to get a nuke and maybe USE it against America.

Then spineless shits like you will feel the pain of your own stupidity.

  2. Here is how some of the Israeli news reports see this.

    Diplomatic immunity
Early elections have another important effect: They produce "diplomatic immunity" for Netanyahu and the Israeli government from negative US reaction should Israel decide to strike Iran.

By early September, the elections will be behind Netanyahu, and as a prime minister he won't have trouble to form a stable coalition and government that would endorse his position on an Iran strike. Meanwhile, US President Barack Obama would still be in the midst of his own election campaign. During this period, until November of this year at least, he would have trouble taking punitive measures against Israel or endorsing such steps at the UN should such proposals be made in the wake of an Israeli strike.

Hence, Israel would have at least two months of freedom to act, before winter clouds hinder the Air Force and while assuming that the US, with clenched teeth, would help Israel defend against missile retaliation by Iran and its clients (Hamas, Islamic Jihad and Hezbollah) and help us on the diplomatic front. Some observers argue that this is the main consideration that prompted Netanyahu to bring the elections forward.

  3. Netanyahu is a dickhead who will - if he has his way - drag the whole of the Middle East into a disastrous conflict, at the very moment in history when an enlightened and intelligent leader could bring about a lasting peace. The hope must be that in Septemebr Obama looks to be re-elected with a mandate that gives him the courage to face down Netanyahu, but I have my doubts about that as well.

  4. Such a strike will also, most probably, cause a huge jump in oil prices, further lessening Obama's chances for reelection. If he does this he better hope Obama is defeated. If Obama survives the payback won't be pretty.

  11. Sometimes. But not "Every" time.

A lot of Utilities have switched over to gas - just in time to see production go flat (and, soon, start falling.)

  12. If you haven't checked out the chart on the bottom of

    This Page

you really need to take a look at it.

We're putting nat gas in storage at a rate of about 1/3 of normal. If this doesn't change (and I don't see how it can) it's going to soon be apparent to even the idiots that we're in danger of dropping below "minimum operating levels" by Feb.

    1. Either you put up a link to the wrong chart, or you don't know how to read the data you bloviate about. Working gas in underground storage on your chart is 30% higher than the high side of the historic range on April-12, the last date on the chart.

      Delete
  13. "Minimum Operating Level" is when there's not enough gas in the system to generate the pressure needed to move the gas to where it needs to go. I'm thinking "maybe around 800 B cu ft."

  14. Regarding a comment from the last thread:

    Let me see if I have this about right;

Oil prices are all the way down to a little more than twice what they were in 2005, and all it took to accomplish this was for Japan, and all of Europe to go into Recession, and for the U.S. to cut its oil usage by approx. 6 Million bbl/day (leading, of course, to slow growth, high unemployment, and declining disposable income for the middle and lower classes,)

and this is supposed to, in some way, destroy my peak oil argument to the extent that I'm probably feeling suicidal? Really?

    ReplyDelete
  15. .

That is pretty silly, Ruf, since according to you Peak Oil caused it all as well as the disappearance of 'go-go' boots and the glitter ball.

  17. And, point to one place where I said "peak oil Caused It All."

On the other hand, are you asserting that the Recessions in Japan, and Europe, and the Slowdown in the U.S. haven't had a dampening effect on oil prices?

    ReplyDelete
  18. OR, conversely, that the Increasing Price of Oil hasn't led to slower growth in the developed economies?

    2. Netanyahu is determined to drag the US into a war with Iran.

He cannot go to war with Iran by himself. Israel can start a war with Iran but cannot finish it on terms that are acceptable and in the long wrong would pay a very high price for the recklessness of Bibi.

Cite the last time in history that a small minor state dragged a great power into war. The relationship between the current Israeli political leadership and our slugs in congress is historically bizarre. An Israeli attack against Iran would be cheered on by the Saudis, who owned 75% of the attackers on 911 and have financed AQ under bin Laden.

Iran is no threat to the United States. There were no Iranians in the planes on 911. There is no record of Iranian espionage and the stealing of US classified nuclear weapon technology.

The wahabiists in Saudi Arabia and Pakistan are a far greater threat to the US. The Iranians have every right to feel threatened by the US and Israel because that is all we ever hear about and of course the Iranians have noticed. It would be astonishing if they did not want nuclear weapons.

  29. The only resident nuclear power in the Middle East is Israel. If I were an Iranian, I would want to protect my country against attack real and threatened. Nuclear deterrance has worked well for the US, Russia, China, France, India, North Korea and India. It is working for Israel. The Iranians have a right to develop a nuclear weapon whether I like it or not. They certainly have no less a right to have one than ________________. You can fill in the blanks.

    1. IF Israel the power you claim it is and the THREAT you claim it is to Iran then WHY is IRAN NOT NUKED?

Nuclear deterrence does not work with Islamic Hidden Imam theology.

Actually Iran, as a signer of NPT has NO right to build a weapon.

If it chooses to do so? It will invite an attack by many nations.

As for the RIGHT of Israel to have nukes? It NEVER signed a contract with the world getting technology as did Iran did.

    ********

The Teheran Times states the obvious, not that it will persuade the ranting fool who is incapable of an intelligent debate:

It sometimes falls on a country’s ex-military men to warn the public of the combative bluster of their elected officials. Retired, they have little to lose and are more familiar with the costs of war than the cycles of elected politicians looking to push their foreign policy de jour onto the public.

For example, in the past two weeks, newly-retired Shin Bet chief Yuval Diskin said Netanyahu and his Defense Minister Ehud Barak were presenting a "mirage" to the public. He said a false dichotomy was being pushed: strike Iran or see a nuclear Iran. Diskin’s comments have been echoed by several ex-military and intelligence figures including 2002-2011 Mossad chief Meir Dagan, who called Israel’s Iran policy ill-conceived and the idea of an attack on Iran "the stupidest thing I have ever heard". Former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, who ordered the siege of Gaza, even joined the chorus last Sunday.

But Likud hawks now face open mutiny from the serving top brass of Israel’s security services. Dagan’s successor Tamir Pardo, said Iran does not pose an existential threat to Israel. Netanyahu's military Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Benny Gantz, the man likely responsible for giving the orders to train MEK assassins to strike Iranian nuclear scientists, went on the record to say that Iran was rational.

“Rational” is an interesting word in this context because since the early 1990s Israel has employed a propaganda campaign to cast Iran as an irrational actor for the purpose of attempting to check Iran’s power in the region. Mostly for the benefit of its U.S. patrons the story runs that Iran is not a rational political player and is therefore undeterred by the traditional checks and balances that maintain world order. By weaving this fiction Israel encourages the U.S. to take a hard line with Iran and adopt a zero-tolerance policy on its nuclear program.

This principle should be kept firmly in mind when interpreting Israel’s rhetoric and actions towards Iran. In November 2011, the IAEA released a paper stating that Iran did not have an active nuclear program (findings which reiterated pervious IAEA reports and two US National Intelligence Estimates). Overnight Israel’s executive and spin doctors created a media storm, briefing on “zones of immunity”, “existential threats” and stirring up images from the Holocaust, with many pundits soberly talking about the inevitability of war. Months later the war drums were muted and some sense was restored: Obama publically chastised Israeli lobby AIPAC, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei twice repeated his fatwa against developing nuclear weapons and U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, U.S. Chief of Staff Martin Dempsey poured cold water on Israel’s prediction of imminent armageddon.

The problem was that the damage had already been done. By ratcheting up the propaganda to boiling point, an uncontroversial IAEA report resulted in an EU embargo on Iranian oil and “crippling” U.S. on Iran’s financial system causing sharp inflation. The sad fact is that hawkish hysteria from Israel is taken seriously every time and rarely seen for the sham that it is.
