No TSA Patdowns for Muslim Brotherhood Members Traveling to US

Muslim Brotherhood members are given the chance to opt out of extra scrutiny when flying to the United States. But if you are a great-grandmother named Doris Jones from Evansville, Indiana, better wear a clean set of undershorts for the strip search, you fit the profile.

The records, marked “sensitive but unclassified,” were obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request. They offer few details. The State Department released a one-page document labeled “Compiled References to MB Delegation Arrival and Departure”.
“In the coming days, we’re going to write down a list of procedures for dealing with MB visits to the United States,” an April 16, 2012 entry says.
A March 30 communication offers help dealing with “FJP Delegation and POE [port of entry] Courtesies: Please let the desk know over the weekend if you’d like our help submitting to DHS the ‘Special Alerts,’ which are used to request that travelers not be pulled into secondary [inspection] upon arrival at a point of entry.”
But one member of the Brotherhood delegation, which met with U.S. academic and senior government officials, had been linked to a child pornography investigation in the United States years earlier. Under normal circumstances, he likely would have been subjected to extra scrutiny.
The records released do not address that issue. They do, however, report that “The MB/FJP delegation’s scheduler reported that their arrival at JFK on Saturday went very smoothly.”
And the official in question, Abdul Mawgoud Dardery, traveled separately and was escorted through security checks in Minneapolis and New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport “In response to a request from the MB … We did not hear anything further from the MB so we assume to departure went smoothly,” the records show.

      "
Circumcision is the only surgery which is used to prevent disease. In contrast, consider that in absolute numbers over a ten-year period (1943-1953) the Danish Cancer Registry reported 251 cases of penile cancer and for the same period reported 10,000 cases of breast cancer in women. Yet, nobody seriously advocates removing the breasts of female infants to prevent this more common malignancy of breast cancer. Almost certainly such a proposal would be greeted by howls of outrage over such a mutilation of women to prevent breast cancer. Circumcision must be recognized as an equally serious mutilation of men with equally insubstantial justification for continuing the practice."

It's specious, it's distortion and quite frankly gross…

Wishing you got circumcised is in a whole other league than saying "i hope your wife and daughters are circumcised"

one's a flap of skin, the other? is removal of an organ.

    4. FGM is barbaric, true that. That being said circumcision is a painful practice with little to no physical benefit. Muslims and Jews do it as a matter of religion. I'm curious as to why, what religious foundation is there for it?

I did a bar mitzvah video once and I was supplied with footage from the circumcision party (I don't remember what it was called but there was a big party and the kid was circumcised) and when that kid (off camera) got cut he screamed and cried big time. The look on the mom's face was not a happy one.

    6. Ash,

The reasons for Jewish male circumcision are readily available as are any complications. Since most American male infants are circumcised as the matter of course, it is an uneventful medical procedure. Why did you choose to make it a Jewish issue since less than 1% of all American circumcisions involve Jews?

The reasons for Islamic female genital mutilation and attendant disabilities are also available and horrific. The practice is almost unheard of outside Islamic cultures. If you find it otherwise, please inform me.

There is good cause for naming today International Day of Zero Tolerance to Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and Islamophobia plays no role, unless you believe the WHO is so constituted.

Anyone who believes that these two unrelated practices, one a medical surgery on the whole and the other an ad hoc homespun mutilation, are comparable is grossly uninformed.

What I am curious about is the religious push to circumcise males. What are the religious tenets that require circumcision if the followers? My quick google on it came up with similar rationales from both Muslims and Jews but I did it quickly and had to run out. Answer.com and yahoo answers came up top. 2. .

I've pretty much been staying out of the debate on Obamacare lately under the assumption that things will become better clarified in the next year.

I figured that even those things that the president has waived or put off for a year would still hit prior to the 2014 election, probably in October, and at that time we should have a pretty good feel for the effects of the ACA both good and bad.

However, it kind of sounds like the administration might not be willing to take that chance. Just heard on the news that the administration is looking at extending the changes for up to three years thus putting any of the main issues out beyond the 2016 election.

While to this point I was willing to wait before making a judgment, assuming that both sides on this debate were blowing smoke, now if in fact the administration does try to extend the waivers as was mentioned, it would likely go a long way in convincing me that most of the happy talk they have been spouting about how swimmingly things are going was likely just a lot of bull.

I think you give the increased support too much meaning at this point. As I mentioned above, it will take a year (at least) before all of this sorts itself out. Right now there is too much partisan smoke being blown around on both sides.

Besides, IMO, there are very few single issue voters out there (unless the changes really affect them in a substantial way); and the numbers in the Gallup poll still show a substantial percentage that disapprove of the ACA, much more so than those who like it.

      Just saying.

CBO Director: Obamacare ‘Creates a Disincentive for People to Work’

      Send to r2

Testifying before the House Budget Committee yesterday, Congressional Budget Office director Douglas Elmendorf said of Obamacare, “[T]he act creates a disincentive for people to work.” He declared, “[B]y providing heavily subsidized health insurance to people with very low income and then withdrawing those subsidies as income rises, the act creates a disincentive for people to work—relative to what would have been the case in the absence of that act.”

Elmendorf, a Democrat, tried to claim that these people who would “have less of an incentive to work” would be “better off,” but Budget Committee chairman Paul Ryan was having none of it.

Ryan replied, “I guess I understand the ‘better off’ in the context of health care. But better off in inducing the person not to work who’s on the low-income scale, not to get on the ladder of life, to begin working, getting the dignity of work, getting more opportunities, [raising] their income, joining the middle class, this means fewer people will do that. That’s why I am troubled by this."

    1. Sochi Is Running Out of Pillows

Four days before the Winter Games begin, Sochi staffers are looking for a few goose men

The Olympics officially kick off Friday. We imagine many a staffer and volunteer are scurrying around the Black Sea resort of Sochi, trying to prepare for the glamorous opening ceremony and making sure all security protocols are in place. But it turns out that Russia, despite spending a reported $51 billion on the most expensive Olympics ever, neglected a few key details.

It appears there aren’t enough pillows for the athletes in the Olympic Village. This news comes via the Instagram posts of Luiza Baybakova, a member of the catering staff for the games.

Baybakova posted a picture of a notice to volunteers, which translates as follows:

      “ATTENTION, DEAR COLLEAGUES!

Due to an extreme shortage of pillows for athletes who unexpectedly arrived to Olympic Village in the mountains, there will be a transfer of pillows from all apartments to the storehouse on 2 February 2014. Please be understanding. We have to help the athletes out of this bind.”

      [ How We Know ]

We monitored both Russian-language social networks and Instagram for posts related to the Olympic Village, and ran across this controversial gem.

Either the athletes arrived early, or event planners somehow didn’t know when they were arriving. Regardless, it seems like volunteers and staffers might now be asked to give up their own pillows to accommodate the athletes. It’s in line with what other citizen bloggers are posting ahead of the Olympics, like this guy, who claims residents near the stadiums are forbidden from using wood-burning fireplaces to avoid unsightly smoke coming out of chimneys. Even though it’s the Winter Games.

Of the string of comments on the original Instagram post, maybe the last one says it all: “Fuck…and now the whole world laughs…”

The only legitimate differences you can talk about are performance factors. Efficiency can mean anything.

  26. Peak oil, all right. Peak oil demand.

Miles driven per American peaked in 2005, and have since declined 8.8%. This has never happened before. From 1900 to 2007, vehicle miles driven increased every year except 1932, during the Great Depression, according to data from the Department of Transportation. It's now declined in three of the past five years. From 1971 to 2005, miles driven per person increased every year expect 1975. That figure has now declined in each of the last eight years.

    Dear Friend,

I've got some exciting news to share with you.

My friends at American Legacy PAC just launched an important new project called Save our Healthcare - and I will be serving as Chairman.

Let me tell you a bit more about what we'll be doing, and how you can help.

When I spoke just feet away from President Obama about the dangers of political correctness at last year's National Prayer Breakfast, many were surprised.

After all, my background is medicine, not politics.

But it doesn't take a brain surgeon like me to see that America is facing serious problems. And right now, the number one problem is Obamacare.

Dropped coverage, failing websites, skyrocketing premiums - the list goes on and on.

I wish I could snap my fingers and make Obamacare disappear tomorrow, but we both know that won't happen.

That's why we're launching Save our Healthcare - a national citizens' effort to hold Washington accountable, re-center the healthcare debate around doctors and patients, and begin to answer the question of "What's next?" - because real reform is absolutely vital.

Please join me, and sign our petition at SaveOurHealthcare.org.

It is our goal to recruit every American that believes we can do better than Obamacare, and make sure that our message is received loud and clear by every elected official and candidate in 2014.

Please sign up to support this project, and ask your friends and family to do the same.

    Sincerely,

Health Insurers Banking on Government Funding

Yesterday, I noted Bruce Japsen’s report that Humana Inc.’s chief executive officer was bullish on its health-care exchange policies:

"With a little less than two months left in the open enrollment period, Humana executives said they expect even more younger people to sign up, which 'mitigates adverse' risk. The demographic makeup of those who have signed up so far has made Humana executives confident their exchange plans have been priced appropriately."

But Scott Gottlieb points out that this is not what Bruce Broussard is telling the government:

Now we have some hard numbers. Humana announced that it expects to tap the three risk adjustment mechanisms in ObamaCare for between $250 and $450 million in 2014. This amounts to about 25 percent of the insurer’s expected exchange revenue. This money is needed to offset losses that the insurer will take as a result of slower enrollment in its ObamaCare plans, and a skewed risk pool that weighs more heavily toward older and less healthy members than it originally budgeted.

More than half of the money will come from the $25 billion reinsurance pool that ObamaCare provides (collected through a tax on employer-sponsored health plans). The other half will come mostly from the risk corridors. Humana is expected to book the money as revenue to offset shortfalls between what it collects in exchange premiums and pays out in medical claims.

The company blamed the Obama Administration’s decision late last year to extend grandfathering of individual market plans for the overall deterioration in the risk pool. That means that Humana (like other insurers) was counting on people from the individual market being forced to transition into ObamaCare plans. It’s widely perceived that the Obama Administration counted on that migration as well. But Humana’s statement was a very clear expression of this expectation.

This doesn’t sound like a company that is confident it has priced its exchange policies correctly; it sounds like a company that is confident it has priced its exchange policies incorrectly but is going to have most of its losses made up by the U.S. government. And if Humana -- one of the country’s largest and most experienced health insurers -- has priced its policies incorrectly, what are the odds that most of the other insurers have done better?

  37. Activists and entrepreneurs have blamed the exclusion of Arabs on a number of factors. They say Arabs who study science in Israeli universities or colleges typically go on to work in medicine or pharmacology, professions that are traditionally considered more respectable in their culture. Many Israeli entrepreneurs come from elite military units where they have been given cutting edge technological training and most Arabs don't serve in the military.
Geography has also played a part. Israel's high-tech heart is in Tel Aviv and surrounding cities, far from the centers of Arab population in the south and north. Arabs who study science tend to return to their home villages to be close to their families, often taking up poor-paying jobs as teachers, rather than work in the Tel Aviv area.

Arabs do not study fields that offer higher compensation. Most do not serve in the military as the matter of personal choice; thereby, losing a golden opportunity to acquire cutting edge IT training. Arabs will not move to where the highest paying jobs are found, blaming distance as a barrier.

And...all the above is the fault of Israel...Amazing...

It looks like Obama is getting ready to sign a new Farm Bill into effect that will cost north of a $trillion over the next 10 years.

There are complaints about the 1% cut in food stamps. Here is how it affects Michigan.

One of the most criticized provision of the bill are the cuts to what are sometimes known as “heat and eat” policies that some states use to expand eligibility for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, better known as food stamps.

Heat and eat works like this: If a household receives benefits under the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, the federal government assumes that household is paying for utilities and allows residents to use a standard utility allowance in computing their food assistance eligibility.

Michigan and other states have begun giving out nominal utility assistance payments, as little as a dollar a month, in order to allow some residents to claim the standard allowance and increase their eligibility for food assistance even when utilities are included in their rent.

The farm bill would require residents to get at least $20 a year in utility assistance to be eligible. The Congressional Budget Office estimates that will reduce benefits for 850,000 households nationwide by an average of $90 a month.

Those that complain about the cuts argue

But, for people living on the edge of solvency, small cuts matter, said Kareemah El-Amin, executive director of the Food Bank Council of Michigan. “When you take a cut of $38 from a family per person, that is significant.”

I have no problem with those who argue for more assistance to the poor. What I do have a problem with is those who manipulate the system to achieve their goals. If you want to argue for more food stamps or assistance, do it out in the open, not with gimmicks and tricks.

Yep, I would like to "destroy" poverty, disease, and illiteracy - at least, in the United States.

So would I. But what is proposed and what has been done is NOT working and has not worked for two generations. The highest ACT scores ever recorded were those of the class of 1966. Despite "handicapping" at every opportunity, the real scores have declined ever since.

The US spends more money per pupil on primary and secondary education than any country in the world. Yet, the US does not even make it into the top 25 when tested internationally. What does that tell you? It tells me that what the US considers "education" is not considered education by the rest of the world. Illiteracy cannot be destroyed when it is subsidized by the nonsense this administration proposes: citizens will be subsidized for making bad choices; they can trade off income for leisure at government expense. I suggest that our children have plenty of leisure. What they do not have is the opportunity and incentive to gain the skills necessary to compete in a global economy. Without these skills, "poverty" is a given.

    3. The United States Department of Education (ED or DoED), also referred to as the ED for (the) Education Department, is a Cabinet-level department of the United States government. Recreated by the Department of Education Organization Act (Public Law 96-88) and signed into law by President Jimmy Carter on October 17, 1979, it began operating on May 4, 1980.[2]
The Department of Education Organization Act divided the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare into the Department of Education and the Department of Health and Human Services. The Department of Education is administered by the United States Secretary of Education.

Upgrading Education to cabinet level status in 1979 was opposed by many in the Republican Party, who saw the department as unconstitutional, arguing that the Constitution doesn't mention education, and deemed it an unnecessary and illegal federal bureaucratic intrusion into local affairs. However many liberals and Democrats see the department as constitutional under the Commerce Clause, and that the funding role of the Department is constitutional under the Taxing and Spending Clause. The National Education Association supported the bill, while the American Federation of Teachers opposed it.

    5. Black Teen Unemployment Jumps to 38%

The black teen unemployment rate spiked to 38% in January. The dramatic increase represented almost a 10% increase over December's 35.5% unemployment rate. Overall, the teen unemployment rate for all races was 21%, a modest increase from December.

This increase in teen unemployment comes as President Obama and Democrats have made a minimum wage hike the central plank of their economic agenda. Only 2% of hourly workers in the US earn the minimum wage, but the overwhelming majority of teen workers begin work earning the minimum wage. While minimum wage hikes don't lead to many job losses in the overall economy, they can have a large effect among teen workers. The minimum wage, after all, is simply a starting wage.
It is worth noting that several states did increase their minimum wage at the start of this year. A number of states even index their minimum wage to inflation, resulting in annual increases in the starting wage. More than two-thirds of minimum wage earners receive a raise within the first 12 months on the job. You can't earn a raise, however if you don't have the job in the first place.

If Democrats were successful in raising the minimum wage, a number of starting jobs will disappear. Rising teen unemployment may be the new normal.

A month into the most sweeping changes to healthcare in half a century, people are having trouble finding doctors at all, getting faulty information on which ones are covered and receiving little help from insurers swamped by new business.

Experts have warned for months that the logjam was inevitable. But the extent of the problems is taking by surprise many patients — and even doctors — as frustrations mount.

Aliso Viejo resident Danielle Nelson said Anthem Blue Cross promised half a dozen times that her oncologists would be covered under her new policy. She was diagnosed last year with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and discovered a suspicious lump near her jaw in early January.

Allen, I do not call you an Israeli-firster strictly on the basis of one incident. People can have varying opinions on what happened with the Liberty although it is fair to note that as far as I know you are the only one on this blog that buys into the fairy tale that it was an accident. I have provided numerous rebuttals to your arguments before and will not bother to repeat them again.

However, your comment above reflects your usual tactics of lying and misrepresentation. You offer up bullshit and call it paraphrase. In making the point that the first 'investigation' into the liberty incident was a sham as evidenced by the words of those involved and by the people they 'didn't ask' to testify, I also pointed out that calling subsequent hearings where the Liberty incident was mentioned as 'investigations' is ridiculous. There were no additional witnesses called or testimony added. I therefore I said that the people who provided the transcripts of the original 'investigation' were merely lawyers, clerks, and pencil pushers.

From that you discern that I said (paraphrased of course) the innumerable (one assumes you haven't a clue as to the number) US military personnel I spoke of 'betrayed both their brothers in arms and their country'. No you fucking moron, what I said was they did what they were told to do, make copies of transcripts and get them over to the people conducting the hearings, hearings that for that matter in many cases were only tangentially related to the Liberty. You cry crocodile tears over a bunch of bureaucrats yet give short shrift the men who were killed or injured on the Liberty, the survivors who still tell their tale, the naval officers who were involved, the head of the NSA, the Secretary of State, ambassadors, CIA officials, numerous authors, numerous videos, and innumerable others who are on the record calling the official version of the Liberty incident a lie and a cover-up.

I don't need the Liberty incident to call you what you are. Your own words do it. The pronouns you use when speaking of US/Israeli relations do it. Your rewriting of history does it. Your accusation that the US is an 'abuser' in its relations with Israel is a perfect example of where your first loyalties rest. Your references to US 'obligations' in its dealings with Israel when it looks to its own interests rather than subordinating them to Israel does it.

If you want to get into this, we can start delving into the archives.

This does not mean that the USS Liberty was not where it was not supposed to be, that the NSA didn't take it over (against standing orders of the navy)

The USS Liberty in my opinion, should never had been 9 miles off the coast of Gaza spying on Israel.

      No.

They were a spy ship, that was their job, everyone knew it was their job, all you had to do is look at her (antennas, radar, etc.) and you would know it was a spy ship, a rather large and easily recognizable spy ship. It was an NSA spy ship. They were doing NSA business.

From some of the testimony it was indicated that the ship was being ordered to pull back from the position it was in; however, the same testimony indicated the communication was never received by the ship.

Assuming that was true, it changes nothing. It was an American ship in international waters and it was attacked in an assault that lasted between one and two hours and involved both planes and boats by a nation that was supposedly an, ally.

  46. DEATH OF THE OLD COW

Suddenly, a cow runs out into the road, and a limo driving late at night, hits it head-on

and the car comes to a stop.

The woman in the back seat - in her usual abrasive manner, says to the chauffeur,

"You get out and check on that poor cow. You were driving."

So the chauffeur gets out, checks, and reports that the animal is dead, but it appeared

    to be very old.

Well, says the woman, "You were driving, so you go and tell the farmer in that lighted

    farmhouse over there."

Two hours later the chauffeur returns totally inebriated, a full belly, his hair ruffled, and

a big grin on his face. "My God, what happened to you?" asks the woman.

The chauffeur replies, "When I got there, the farmer opened his best bottle of single malt scotch, the wife gave me a meal fit for a king, and the daughter made love to me."

"What on earth did you say?" asks the woman.

Well, I just knocked on the door, and when it opened, I said to them,

"I'm Nancy Pelosi's chauffeur, and I've just killed the old cow."

Don't You just love a story with a happy ending!

WHY would Israel want to attack the Liberty maliciously?

If you can give a cogent answer to that you would be taken more seriously.

Bob, we have discussed the Liberty attack a dozen times here. What more does it take to get you off your ass and look into it yourself?

The following article kind of lays out some of the theories as to why Israel might have attacked the USS Liberty.

    http://wikispooks.com/wiki/USS_Liberty_Incident

Add to those, WiO's argument that the Liberty was taken over by rogue NSA pirates and that they were transmitting Israeli battle plans to the Egyptians and that was the reason Israel attacked them. The article also mentions the 13 'investigations' Allen talks about. The following gives in cursory summary of those 13 'investigations'.

    http://www.ifamericansknew.org/us_ints/ul-okeefe.html

As far as I was able to find the author, Christol, never came back with a rebuttal on the various reports that were put out on the true nature of the investigations.

There are a few Wiki articles out there talking about the Liberty incident, some of them more detailed than other. Here's just one.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Liberty_incident

If you are interested in why a supposed ally of the US would attack an American ship, look it up. I've given you some links to start you off. However, the question today is was the attack an accident?

What does Occam's Razor tell you?

You have what has been called one of the most easily recognized ships in the American fleet what with its massive radar and antenna displays clearly marked with US (not Egyptian) lettering cruising along in international waters at 5 knots on a clear day with an American flag flying and sailors sun bathing on the deck, when after some initial flybys they are attacked by Israeli planes and boats for between one and two hours as their communication was being jammed and their life boats strafed even though part way through the attack the crew went and got an even larger American flag and displayed it.

To me the circumstance imply either that the Israeli army was either the most incompetent bunch of shits in the world (something argued against by the performance in the '67 war) or the attacked was intentional and all else is just lie and cover-up.

No I have said the OFFICIAL NSA folk, ordered the USS LIBERTY into the situation. Never have I ever said "rouge".

And I have said that the NSA was transmitting the "electronic signatures" and comm intel, never have i said "battle plans"

For someone that is as high on the IQ scale as you tell us you miss a lot of details, now I being just a nitwit I have an excuse.

      But you Quirk?

We expect you to have fidelity to the facts of the discussion...

      You disappoint me...

      :( <----sad face

    2. If it is any consolation, WiO, I often am disappointed in q13 as well. As I am in MzT and r2.
