COLLECTIVE MADNESS

“Soft despotism is a term coined by Alexis de Tocqueville describing the state into which a country overrun by "a network of small complicated rules" might degrade. Soft despotism is different from despotism (also called 'hard despotism') in the sense that it is not obvious to the people."

Does Obama's Citizenship Status Matter?

bobal linked to an article  which posed this question:

If someone were to violate the law by manufacturing a forgery in order trick the public, would that be enough evidence for members Congress to conduct hearings and for a court to issue an order for the critical records, including the original long-form birth certificate (signed by the doctor) to ensure that the U.S. constitutional requirements for office were not violated? After all, Congress is sworn to uphold and defend that Constitution, and the justices on the U.S. Supreme Court are "guardians" of the Constitution. That's their job, isn't it?

Does the country want to go there? Does it care about Obama's citizenship status or is the economic crisis so paramount that this issue can be swept under the rug and anyone who brings it up dismissed as a wing nut?

It might have mattered, in the United States, but in America, Obama will be sworn into office.

  5. If I recall, the Hawaiian offical in charge of the certification of live births reported there were no "hard copies" to be examined. That Hawaii had gone digital with its' records and the digits were all there were.

No need to warehouse all that old paper, not when IBM mainframes could store the data, cheaply.

Or so I recall reading, when the subject first came up.

  6. Related was the result of a House select committee on Chinese espionage in the United States and the illegal transfer to China of advanced military technology. Chaired by Christopher Cox, R-Calif., the committee issued a report in 1999 with no dissenting or "minority" signature. It found that the Clinton administration's attitude toward Chinese penetration had been abysmally lax (as lax, I would say, as its attitude toward easy money from businessmen with Chinese military-industrial associations).

Many quids and many quos were mooted by these investigations (still incomplete at the time of writing) though perhaps not enough unambivalent pros. You can't say that about the Marc Rich and other pardons—the vulgar bonanza with which the last Clinton era came to an end. Rich's ex-wife, Denise Rich, gave large sums to Hillary Clinton's re-election campaign and to Bill Clinton's library, and Marc Rich got a pardon. Edgar and Vonna Jo Gregory, convicted of bank fraud, hired Hillary Clinton's brother Tony and paid him $250,000, and they got a pardon. Carlos Vignali Jr. and Almon Glenn Braswell paid $400,000 to Hillary Clinton's other brother, Hugh, and, hey, they, respectively, got a presidential commutation and a presidential pardon, too. In the Hugh case, the money was returned as being too embarrassing for words (and as though following the hallowed custom, when busted or flustered, of the Clinton-era DNC). But I would say that it was more embarrassing to realize that a former first lady, and a candidate for secretary of state, was a full partner in years of seedy overseas money-grubbing and has two greedy brothers to whom she cannot say no.

Does this sibling and fraternal squalor have foreign-policy implications, too? Yes. Until late 1999, the fabulous Rodham boys were toiling on another scheme to get the hazelnut concession from the newly independent republic of Georgia. There was something quixotically awful about this scheme—something simultaneously too small-time and too big-time—but it also involved a partnership with the main political foe of the then-Georgian president (who may conceivably have had political aspirations), so once again the United States was made to look as if its extended first family were operating like a banana republic.

The last thing we need is a Clinton in charge of foreign policy.

  10. Whit, and Bobal, if there is evidence of Fraud, evidence that he is not a US citizen, then bring it to the courts and justice will be done. I would be very surprised if evidence were available to support such claims at this late date. If the evidence existed to support such claims there are many groups with power who would have pursued it over the last number of years. It didn't happen so I can only conclude it is the deranged ramblings of losers who are drowning in sour grapes.

Ash, listen to the long audio. There are lawsuits all over hell trying to find out who he is. But they are failing, and Berg's will probably fail too, as the courts are ruling citizens don't have the right to force a man to reveal his birth records. The Secretaries of the several states should have done that, but nobody did. We even have a Nicaraguan, a resident alien, on some ballots.

And what Leo says is, it doesn't matter. He thinks he may have a proper birth certificate anyway, but in his view it doesn't matter as he is not a natural born citizen anyhow. That's where it stands.

Obama's own wedsite says he was born a British citizen. I remember seeing that and thinking, well would Winston Churchill, who had an American mom, could he be President?

His argument is, he is not a natural born American.

Who knows what the court will do. But I have a lot of respect for this Leo Donofrio, he seems like a spunky guy to me.

RUSSIAN ANALYST PREDICTS DECLINE AND BREAKUP OF USA
    Tue Nov 25 2008 09:04:22 ET

A leading Russian political analyst has said the economic turmoil in the United States has confirmed his long-held view that the country is heading for collapse, and will divide into separate parts.

Professor Igor Panarin said in an interview with the respected daily IZVESTIA published on Monday: "The dollar is not secured by anything. The country's foreign debt has grown like an avalanche, even though in the early 1980s there was no debt. By 1998, when I first made my prediction, it had exceeded $2 trillion. Now it is more than 11 trillion. This is a pyramid that can only collapse."

The paper said Panarin's dire predictions for the U.S. economy, initially made at an international conference in Australia 10 years ago at a time when the economy appeared strong, have been given more credence by this year's events.

When asked when the U.S. economy would collapse, Panarin said: "It is already collapsing. Due to the financial crisis, three of the largest and oldest five banks on Wall Street have already ceased to exist, and two are barely surviving. Their losses are the biggest in history. Now what we will see is a change in the regulatory system on a global financial scale: America will no longer be the world's financial regulator."

When asked who would replace the U.S. in regulating world markets, he said: "Two countries could assume this role: China, with its vast reserves, and Russia, which could play the role of a regulator in Eurasia."

Asked why he expected the U.S. to break up into separate parts, he said: "A whole range of reasons. Firstly, the financial problems in the U.S. will get worse. Millions of citizens there have lost their savings. Prices and unemployment are on the rise. General Motors and Ford are on the verge of collapse, and this means that whole cities will be left without work. Governors are already insistently demanding money from the federal center. Dissatisfaction is growing, and at the moment it is only being held back by the elections and the hope that Obama can work miracles. But by spring, it will be clear that there are no miracles."

He also cited the "vulnerable political setup", "lack of unified national laws", and "divisions among the elite, which have become clear in these crisis conditions."

He predicted that the U.S. will break up into six parts - the Pacific coast, with its growing Chinese population; the South, with its Hispanics; Texas, where independence movements are on the rise; the Atlantic coast, with its distinct and separate mentality; five of the poorer central states with their large Native American populations; and the northern states, where the influence from Canada is strong.

He even suggested that "we could claim Alaska - it was only granted on lease, after all." Panarin, 60, is a professor at the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and has authored several books on information warfare.

Bloomberg does the math on what the U.S. federal government has committed so far for various bailout/rescue efforts:

The U.S. government is prepared to lend more than $7.4 trillion on behalf of American taxpayers, or half the value of everything produced in the nation last year, to rescue the financial system since the credit markets seized up 15 months ago. [...]

The money that’s been pledged is equivalent to $24,000 for every man, woman and child in the country. It’s nine times what the U.S. has spent so far on wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, according to Congressional Budget Office figures. It could pay off more than half the country’s mortgages.

UPDATE: Bloomberg now saying the correct figure is $7.7 trillion.

    Breaking: Somali pirates acquire Citigroup?
    Mon, 11/24/2008 - 1:59pm

Amid a slew of piracy stories from Somalia, a fake Bloomberg piece is circulating the 'net today with a report that Wall Street bankers might cringe upon reading:

Somali Pirates in Discussions to Acquire Citigroup

    By Andreas Hippin

November 20 (Bloomberg) -- The Somali pirates, renegade Somalis known for hijacking ships for ransom in the Gulf of Aden, are negotiating a purchase of Citigroup.

The pirates would buy Citigroup with new debt and their existing cash stockpiles, earned most recently from hijacking numerous ships, including most recently a $200 million Saudi Arabian oil tanker. The Somali pirates are offering up to $0.10 per share for Citigroup, pirate spokesman Sugule Ali said earlier today. The negotiations have entered the final stage, Ali said.

"You may not like our price, but we are not in the business of paying for things. Be happy we are in the mood to
offer the shareholders anything," said Ali.

The pirates will finance part of the purchase by selling new Pirate Ransom Backed Securities. The PRBS's are backed by the cash flows from future ransom payments from hijackings in the Gulf of Aden. Moody's and S&P have already issued their top investment grade ratings for the PRBS's.

Head pirate, Ubu Kalid Shandu, said: "We need a bank so that we have a place to keep all of our ransom money. Thankfully, the dislocations in the capital markets has allowed us to purchase Citigroup
at an attractive valuation and to take advantage of TARP capital to grow the business even faster."

Shandu added, "We don't call ourselves pirates. We are coastguards and this will just allow us to guard our coasts better."

In real pirate news, the Weekly Piracy Report counted 11 incidents last week. And James Carrol debunks the lessons of piracy in the International Herald Tribune.

The director of Hawaii’s Department of Health confirmed on Friday what Barack Obama has been saying all along: the presidential candidate was born in Honolulu.

“There have been numerous requests for Sen. Barack Hussein Obama’s official birth certificate,” said Chiyome Fukino. “State law prohibits the release of a certified birth certificate to persons who do not have a tangible interest in the vital record.”

Citing her statutory authority to oversee and maintain Hawaii’s vital records, Fukino said she has “personally seen and verified that the Hawaii State Department of Health has Sen. Obama’s original birth certificate on record in accordance with state policies and procedures.

“No state official, including Gov. Linda Lingle, has ever instructed that this vital record be handled in a manner different from any other vital record in the possession of the State of Hawaii,” Fukino added.

Ahhh, here it is not, but it supports that Hawaii has no hard copy of the original documents, as those ladies said, months ago.
    They've all be digitalized.

Many states have laws recognizing the legal standing of public records in electronic form. For example, the state of Hawaii has passed legislation making electronic records officially recognized as legal documents. Previously, official records had to be on paper or microfilm.

That's more than a decade more experience than President Bush's original economic policy team, which in 2001 was made up of Paul O'Neill as Treasury secretary, who had spent 16 years in Washington at Veterans Affairs and OMB; National Economic Council chairman Larry Lindsey, who'd been in Washington for 18 years in various positions; and Council of Economic Advisers chief R. Glenn Hubbard, who for 10 years had served in varying capacities at the American Enterprise Institute, the National Bureau of Economic Research and at the Treasury Department.

Bush also hired John Bridgeland as his first Domestic Policy Council chief. Bridgeland spent five years as Rep. Rob Portman's chief of staff before joining the White House transition team and eventually ending up in the administration.

Add to that Mitch Daniels, who was in Washington for 19 years before becoming Bush's OMB director; and Sean O'Keefe, Daniels' deputy director at OMB, who had been in and out of Washington for 13 years prior to joining Bush's team ,and the total amount of Washington experience for Bush's economic bunch was 81 years.

As Obama started speaking, the Dow was up 311 points, largely on news the government again was bailing out Citigroup.

Like a yo-yo, the market went down and up as a subdued Obama introduced his economic team and took questions. By the time he finished 40 minutes later, the Dow had fallen 100 points from where it was when he started, but still finished up about 400 points on the day.

  58. rat,

I agree, the BEST way to get rid of him is allow him, as his hero would say, let him hang himself by his own rope...

(i know i took liberties with that quote)

A few months ago the left of this nation decried that the IRAQ war was killing us in the pocketbook...

Then the crisis spawned by the left's own jimmy carter, with his community reinvestment act that gave birth to the hundreds of little acorn-like ngo's that gave birth to the concept of NO accountability by the nations banks and lenders...

Thus this now gave rise to the current admin & the DEMOCRAT led Congress to agree that up towards 7,000,000,000 SEVEN trillion dollars the fed could be doling out...

from 10 billion a month to weekly 700 billion dollar payouts...

WERE did those DEM"S get all this money? and why doesnt it matter that we are making GW Bush look frugal?

    2012...

    yep time for change...

  59. actually if 2012 is the contest you'd better be working NOW to make that change...

  60. "I don't know if she has a one-on-one with (Obama)," said Palin spokesman Bill McAllister. "It may be, given that they were both involved in the national campaign."

McAllister said Palin will be in Philadelphia on Monday and Tuesday, and the state will pay for it. He said the Chambliss campaign will pay for Palin's side trip to Georgia.

Palin will join Chambliss for rallies Monday in Augusta, Savannah, Perry and Atlanta. Chambliss is in a close runoff election with Democrat Jim Martin.

  63. A detroit radio station called the Kenyan embassy after the election of Obama. After a lot of trouble they get

through to the ambassador of Kenya.
The ambassador of Kenya says that obama was born in Kenya and that his birth place has become a

    national shrine.
    Listen to the recording here
The quote is around 12:35, so if you don’t have time to listen to the whole thing, you can jump ahead.
    The transcript reads:

Radio Jockey: President elect Obama's birth place over in Kenya -- is that going to be a national spot where he

    was born

Ambassador Peter Ogego: its already an attraction. his paternal grandmother is still alive

Radio Jockey:But his birth place...they'll put up a marker there
Ambassdor Peter Ogego: It would depend on the government. Its already well known.

Here is an abridged Utube version of the

the radio interview. So you can hear just the relevant parts.

It can be reasonably pointed out that the DJ was trying to entrap the Ambassador and that the Ambassador fell into

    his trap.

However, if you listen to the long version of the radio interview --you’ll notice he used the same strategy on two

different occasions and the ambassador gently brushed him off.

First, he tried to force the ambassador to sing the Kenyan national anthem. The ambassador referred him to the

    kenyan website.

Second he tried to push the ambassador into saying something about maybe Kenya becoming the 51st state. Again

the ambassador said that Kenya was a sovereign country. ie No.

He used the same technique on the question of Obama’s birth place. This time the ambassador said yes.

Because the ambassador answered no in the two previous examples -- you can't say that the ambassdor was either

a fool or ill advised. Finally, you might ask well doesn't he know that saying Obama is born in Kenya would make
trouble for Obama? The answer there is why should he be concerned? He has heard no suggestion in the mainstream media
that there might be a problem there. So to say what is already well known--as he says--would be no problem.

Here is a utube video of Ambassador Peter Ogego speaking at a conference.
    Ambassador of Kenya H.E. Peter

    Ogego

To verify that the voice on the radio is Ambassador Ogego-- compare the radio voice with the DJ to the voice

on the Utube that goes with Ambassador Ogego. Ambassador Peter Ogego is introduced a bit after minute 18..

    They are the same.

Be sure to download the recording as well. The chances of it remaining online for long are remote.

The Arnold would have run for president long ago and likely won if he were a "natural born" american. He's not.

He's naturalized. So he can't run. And he knows it. (though there were some trial balloons sent up a couple years

back about changing the law--that went nowhere.)

Like the Arnold, Obama looks to be a naturalized citizen--but maybe he's not even that.

In any case the supreme court--at Justice Thomas instigation-- is taking up the issue Dec 5

  65. I've seen congressman billybob's comments over at free republic.

He says he served as a clerk at the supreme court and even got the supremes to consider a case he brought before them once.

his opinion is that even Leo's case will go nowhere.

The problem won't be the merits but rather the technicalities.

But even after the supremes junk the case -- that won't be the end of it.

Rather it will be something like the plumbers case that got started before Nixon was elected.

It smouldered for a year before it caught fire.

No one with any self respect can let this thing go until it is resolved one way or another.

It was bad enough having a double minded man like bush in office.

    But this?

  67. I'm reading over at free republic that Donofrio has been working with the people in connecticut bringing suit against obama. the suggestion is that the connecticut suit is better formed.

the whole idea in all cases is to craft a case with such form and substance that the supremes can't dismiss it on a technicality or dismiss its merits or walk away from it for fear to do so would dishonor them.

  68. Looks like Dorofrio and Wrotnowski succeeded in getting the connecticut case docketed before the supreme court.

Justice Ginsburg will refuse it but then can apply to anyone they want.
