COLLECTIVE MADNESS

“Soft despotism is a term coined by Alexis de Tocqueville describing the state into which a country overrun by "a network of small complicated rules" might degrade. Soft despotism is different from despotism (also called 'hard despotism') in the sense that it is not obvious to the people."

Building Nukes For Dummies, No More Fish, and George "Ghengis Khan" Bush

To the left, on this oil painting, "Freedom of Speech", by Norman Rockwell, is depicted the view of what freedom of speech is supposed to be like in American lore. See the admiring faces focused on the broad shouldered chiseled featured young American man, standing, having made his point, excercising his rights. The crowd is white Middle America at its pinnacle.

The real Left, way to our left, has spent forty years scorning and dismantling this picture of an American ideal. Did this ideal ever actually exist? No, of course it did not, but the aspiration did. There really was a time, not very long ago when the cynics, defeatists and the moral submariners did not rule, dominate and dictate. The cultural submariners have taken us so down into the slime that every rivet in the superstructure of our society is threatening to pop under the pressure.

There is nothing out of bounds. A real good man like Rick Santorum in Pennsylvania is going down to defeat because he had the temerity to question the morality of a state judge allowing an estranged husband to deny food and water to his wife in a coma, when the parents of the girl wanted to care for her in their home. The press and media and public opinion vilified and politically destroyed a very decent and it seems anachronistic man. The public majority has changed.

The internet today, television and the declining print media, all beneficiaries of "Freedom of Speech" are filled with stories about web sites on nuclear weapons, the Iraqi connection to them, the depletion of all global fish stocks, how every country on the planet thinks George Bush is worse than Osama bin Laden, etc. It is the weekend before an election. Information and disinformational chaff, lies, rumors and rumors of rumors, lies, big lies and outrageous super hydrogenated trans acid fatty mega whopping lies abound. I woke this morning, as is my habit and read them all and do not know which of them to believe. They are all suspect to me. I do know this. Times have changed and so has most everything else, but the human lust for power and control has not. If you are tired of it all, well that is the idea. Your opponents wanted to grind you down and tire you out, beat you up, depress you and have you sit on your behinds. I offer one small piece of advice. Vote for good honest people that have demonstrated common sense and good judgment. Be able to look at them and support them, like the people in that George Rockwell painting look at that young man. It is not that corny of an idea.

  4. I just got word that Hormel, makers of Vienna Sausage have upped production in face of the fish famine.
They are also coming out with a variety of new flavors. Chocolate Dip,Chubby Hubby, and some jelly and creme filled, where who can suck the insides out before consuming the meat by-product.
Do we have a great nation or what?

  8. It is sad to see the effects of partisanship on brain cells.

The NYT publishes the facts of another administration blunder in order to harm Republican chances in the mid-term election. In doing so, the NYT is willing to hilariously contradict itself.

Partisan Republicans focus only on the NYT's negating contradiction, while willfully ignoring the administration's release of unredacted information having the potential to aid Muslims in the development of a nuclear device.

Here's a clue to recovery, both things are mutually inclusive. Concisely, both the NYT and the administration, in this instance, have behaved like idiots.

  9. Allen,

I hope you passed a rstful night.
I see that we both have had some time to reflect on the "Muslim question"
I think we've both, independently reached the conclusion that they are followers of a scum bag religion.
I have now made it a practice to look all ME men and women with an expression of evil murder on my face.
Of course here in Florida we have a concealed weapons law AND a great new law that states you may "stand your ground" if you feel you life is in danger. Me likee.

  11. All I want is Islam to clean itself up. It would be a wonderful thing to see righteous indignation among Muslims who want to rid this scourge from amongst them. I want to turn on CNN and see a story about a Saudi Entebbe style raid on the headquarters of.......(you pick the place)....that shows they resent what is happening to Islam. I want to hear someone somewhere, who is a Muslim accuse Islamic Terrorists and do something public and obvious to stop it.

"Of course the Preacher denies it but the damage is done:"

Well, according to that comcast article you linked to, like Foley initially, it isn't quite that firm a denial:

"The Rev. Ted Haggard resigned as head of the 30 million-member association Thursday and also gave up leadership of his New Life Church pending the investigation into allegations he had monthly trysts with a gay prostitute over the past three years.

Haggard, a married father of five, denied the allegations, but the acting pastor of his church later said that Haggard had acknowledged some of the accusations were true.

"I just know that there has been some admission of indiscretion, not admission to all of the material that has been discussed, but there is an admission of some guilt," Ross Parsley told KKTV-TV of Colorado Springs.

Parlsey did not elaborate, but in an e-mail addressed to congregants, he wrote that the church's four-member board of overseers had since met with Haggard.

"It is important for you to know that he confessed to the overseers that some of the accusations against him are true. He has willingly and humbly submitted to the authority of the board of overseers, and will remain on administrative leave during the course of the investigation," the e-mail stated. A copy was obtained by KMGH-TV in Denver."

whit then goes on to write:

"Rick Santorum, became too high profile and consequently was targetted for defeat. Look at Tom Delay: too effective as Majority Leader, so he was taken down."

hmmm, Tom Delay, too effective so the Dems took him down? They don't have the power, the Law does though, and the Delay's indiscretions seem to be what brought him 'down'. Santorum hasn't been brought 'down' rather, he appears to be losing his popularity. Has he had his character assassinated like Kerry did in the Swift Boat campaign?
