COLLECTIVE MADNESS

“Soft despotism is a term coined by Alexis de Tocqueville describing the state into which a country overrun by "a network of small complicated rules" might degrade. Soft despotism is different from despotism (also called 'hard despotism') in the sense that it is not obvious to the people."

McCain Needs to be Institutionalized and Clapper Investigated

Has James Clapper been indicted for perjury yet?

NO

It has been 1395 days since James Clapper
lied to Congress and the American people.

The Lie

On March 12th, 2013, during a United States Senate Select Committee on Intelligence hearing, Senator Ron Wyden asked Director of National Intelligence James R. Clapper the following question:
"Does the NSA collect any type of data at all on millions or hundreds of millions of Americans?"
Director Clapper responded "No, sir."
Incredulously, Senator Wyden asked "It does not?"
Director Clapper responded "Not wittingly. There are cases where they could inadvertantly perhaps collect, but not wittingly."
So that he would be prepared to answer, Senator Wyden gave these questions to Director Clapper's office a day in advance of the hearing. Upon the hearing's completion, he also gave the Director a chance to amend his answer. He opted not to do so.

The Revelations

On June 6th, 2013, whistleblower Edward Snowden revealed to the world that the NSA was engaged in a secret program to collect tens of millions of Americans' phone call records. Further revelations would unveil NSA programs collecting Americans' web browsing histories, chat logs, email usage and even their physical locations.
The NSA had been collecting data on hundreds of millions of innocent Americans, and continues to do so.
Finally forced to acknowledge his remarks as "erroneous", Director Clapper claimed that he "misunderstood" the question (which he had been sent a day in advance) and that he had simply "forgotten" the relevant section of the Patriot Act covering these programs.

This Site

If you or I had given this testimony before Congress and lied as Director Clapper has, using the same excuses that he provided when caught, we would be charged with perjury. Until such time as the Director is indicted for this crime, as Americans we can only assume that there are two sets of laws: One for the architects and enablers of the NSA surveillance state and another for the public at large.
This site will continue as a monument to this fact until such time that this disparity in justice is resolved.

Others

We are far from alone.
Others across the political spectrum are demanding that Director James Clapper resign, be fired and/or be prosecuted for perjury.

  2. Obama fan's question in 2013:

The Obama administration’s inexplicable mishandling of Marine Gen. James Mattis
    - Thomas E. Ricks

Why the hurry? Pentagon insiders say that he rubbed civilian officials the wrong way — not because he went all “mad dog,” which is his public image, and the view at the White House, but rather because he pushed the civilians so hard on considering the second- and third-order consequences of military action against Iran. Some of those questions apparently were uncomfortable. Like, what do you do with Iran once the nuclear issue is resolved and it remains a foe? What do you do if Iran then develops conventional capabilities that could make it hazardous for U.S. Navy ships to operate in the Persian Gulf? He kept saying, “And then what?”

  3. Great photo op !!

Caption this Chuck Schumer photo-op disaster!
    By Ed Straker

Democrats are usually the masters of messaging, but not yesterday, when Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi, and legions of the haggard-looking constitutional undead stood in front of a giant sign reading, "Make America Sick Again."

Their intent was to say Republican plans to repeal Obamacare would make America unwell, but from reading the giant letters of the poster, it appears that Democrats are the ones who want to make America sick again.

It doesn't help that Schumer, with his rictus, condescending eyeglasses on the edge of his nose, and rows of neatly organized hair plugs, looks like a villain out of central casting. Nancy Pelosi looks equally unflattering in this photo, like an old Mick Jagger on a coke binge. And Darth Sanders can be seen hovering menacingly in the background.

So we'd like your help finishing the caption for these photos. It starts with "Make America Sick Again" and can end with anything like...

    1) with unaffordable insurance premiums

    2) by cutting you off from the doctor of your choice

    3) with more illegal immigrants

    4) with more combustible Muslim refugees

    5) with more taxes and higher deficits

    6) with more race-baiting and more man-bashing

    7) with more boys in more girls' bathroom

And so on. How would you finish the "Make America Sick Again" caption?

For those among the benighted who still consider Conservatives conservative

Conservatives ready to support $1 trillion hole in the budget

Vindictive GOP seeking to stick it to Obama instead once again stick it to the public

Some of the most conservative members of Congress say they are ready to vote for a budget that would — at least on paper — balloon the deficit to more than $1 trillion by the end of the decade, all for the sake of eventually repealing the Affordable Care Act.

In a dramatic reversal, many members of the hard-line House Freedom Caucus said Thursday they are prepared later this month to support a budget measure that would explode the deficit and increase the public debt to more than $29.1 trillion by 2026, figures contained in the budget resolution itself.

As they left a meeting with Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) on Thursday, some of the conservatives said that spending targets contained in the budget for fiscal 2017 are symbolic. The real goal of the budget legislation, they argued, is to establish an opportunity to finally make good on GOP promises to repeal President Obama’s signature domestic achievement.

“I just came to understand all the different ideas about where we go next,” said Rep. David Schweikert (R-Ariz.), a member of the House Freedom Caucus that typically opposes massive spending increases. Schweikert now says he will probably vote for the budget resolution.

The growing conservative consensus comes nearly one year after the approximately 40-member group announced it would rather torpedo the entire budget process than vote for a fiscal blueprint that increased spending without balancing the budget...

Paul Ryan: 'Obamacare is nothing but a history of broken promises.'

The pot calling the kettle black. In the 8 years since Obamacare was passed, the GOP has done zip about healthcare except to try to kill the Obama signature legislation. They have put forth no positive alternative and pushed for it though for much of the time they were in the majority. Instead, all we have heard has been a steady whine from stage right.

And now, this bs on the budget...

      Hypocrisy thy name is GOP.

  5. Brazil prison uprising: At least 33 Roraima inmates killed in second riot in days
Night-time slaughter appears to be reaction to the 60 people killed at Manaus prison earlier this week

    Peter Walker @petejohn_walker

    The Independent US

The riot comes just days after a massacre at the Anisio Jobim prison complex, pictured, in Manaus Reuters
At least 33 inmates have been killed after prisoners allegedly linked to Brazil's largest drug gang escaped their cells and began slaughtering fellow convicts.

The riot at the Monte Cristo Agricultural Penitentiary in Boa Vista, Roraima, which broke out at dawn, was reportedly a reaction to the prison uprising and death of around 60 people in the Amazon jungle's Manaus prison on Sunday night.

The government has been quick to blame the Roraima riot, according to daily newspaper Folha de S.Paulo, on northern rebel group the FDN (Familia do Norte).

However, a local secretary of justice, Uziel Castro, told the BBC the more prominent Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) was behind the killings.

Decapitated bodies thrown over wall in Brazil prison riot
A group of prisoners, now back in their cells, reportedly escaped at 2.30am before attacking inmates in what at least appears to be part of an ongoing feud between supporters of opposing militant factions.

“It’s the PCC,” said one agent, quoted by Brazilian news website Jornal O Globo, who was naming the same criminal organisation that was blamed for the Manaus violence.

There were 1,500 prisoners at the scene and 15 prison officers on duty at the time, and some of the victims were decapitated, according to reports.

“It was not worse because we were able to react,” added the officer.

The chaos was reportedly quelled after the Special Operations Battalion and military police intervened.

The prison massacre, confirmed by the region's Secretariat of Justice and Citizenship, is reportedly now the country’s third most deadly since the 1992 Carandiru executions when 111 prisoners died.

Government said the PCC, which has also been blamed for the Manaus massacre, earned $32m (£26m) in drug sales in 2012 and that almost half its 13,000 members were jailed in Sao Paulo state.

Ultra-luxury car brand Bentley on Thursday revealed its "fastest and most powerful" vehicle ever: the third-generation Bentley Continental Supersports.

With a 6-liter, 12-cylinder, twin-turbocharged engine, the redesigned four-seat vehicle will travel zero to 60 miles per hour in 3.4 seconds with a top speed of 209 mph.

"Only Bentley could create a car which blends immense performance and unrivaled luxury in this way," Bentley CEO Wolfgang Durheimer said in a statement.

The Volkswagen Group brand revealed details and photos of the Bentley Continental Supersports for the first time Thursday night. The vehicle will make its official debut Sunday morning in an event tied to the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Suffice it to say: The specs are eye-popping. The vehicle boasts 700 horsepower, 21-inch forged alloy wheels, high-tech steering and suspension, 750 pound-feet of torque, and optional titanium exhaust.

And in case that's not enough luxury for you, there's a convertible version. That one boasts top speed of 205 mph and goes zero to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds.

Gas-mileage was not revealed. Don't get your hopes up. Twelve-cylinder engines gobble up fuel.

Pricing was not available either. But let's just say you better have at least $200,000 on hand -- and a need for speed.

The U.S. dropped 26,171 bombs last year, 3,027 more than 2015.

According to an analysis of Defense Department data from the Council on Foreign Relations, a non-partisan think tank, the majority of the bombs were dropped in Iraq and Syria. The U.S. leads an international coalition fighting the Islamic State group in both countries and has carried out air operations in attempt to reduce the area controlled by the terrorist organization.

Nearly the same amount of bombs were dropped in Syria (12,192) and Iraq (12,095) last year.

  9. The Russians have no business doing all this crap -

Israeli Satellite Imagery Shows Russian Nuclear-Capable Missiles in Syria

By: Barbara Opall-Rome, January 6, 2017 (Photo Credit: ImageSat International)

TEL AVIV — High-resolution imagery released on Thursday confirms what Moscow-watchers and intelligence analysts have known since March of last year: the deployment of Russian nuclear-capable ballistic missiles in Syria.

Captured on Dec 28 by the Israeli-built Eros B satellite, the spy-quality images were posted Jan. 5 on the website of ImageSat International (iSi), a subsidiary of Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), the state-owned firm that builds all of Israel’s spy satellites.

In a section of the iSi website called Insights, the firm shows an image over Russia’s Hmeymin base in Latakia, Syria of what it says are two Iskander-launching vehicles, each capable of deploying two of the 500-kilometer-range surface-to-surface missiles known to NATO as SS-26.

Other images compare a shot captured in late November, which shows six different “missile elements” under camouflage nets, to one taken Dec. 28 of a nearby location, in which the two vehicles are exposed.

    Comparison Image
On the left, a shot captured in late November shows six different missile elements under camouflage nets. On the right, a shot of a nearby location captured Dec. 28 shows two vehicles exposed.

“Most probably, heavy rain and floods forced the re-deployment of those two elements to the location in which they were revealed by iSi analysts,” the firm noted in its Insight report.

The firm claimed that its satellite imagery “is the first visual evidence of the system’s presence in Syria” and that its revelations were the first to reveal the system’s deployment site.

But while the latter part of iSi’s claim may, indeed, be true with regard to its imagery providing first public proof of the system’s deployment site, it was the Russian military website military-informant.com which first publicized back in March 2016 a spit-second video grab of the Iskander launch vehicles at the Hmeymim base.

The right thing happens to the happy man.

    The bird flies out, the bird flies back again;
    The hill becomes the valley, and is still;
Let others delve that mystery if they can.

God bless the roots!—Body and soul are one!
    The small become the great, the great the small;
The right thing happens to the happy man.

Child of the dark, he can out leap the sun,
His being single, and that being all:
The right thing happens to the happy man.

Or he sits still, a solid figure when
The self-destructive shake the common wall
    ;
Takes to himself what mystery he can,

And, praising change as the slow night comes on,
Wills what he would, surrendering his will
Till mystery is no more: No more he can.

Obama grotesquely had himself awarded a Defense Dept. medal yesterday

President Obama has another ironic award for his trophy shelf, to accompany his Nobel Peace Prize and all those participation trophies he got at Punahou for his basketball skills. His appointee and subordinate Ash Carter yesterday pinned a military medal – the Department of Defense Medal for Distinguished Public Service – on his boss, as Warner Todd Huston reported for Breitbart.

The ceremony took place at Joint Base Myers-Henderson, before a crowd that had an awful lot of empty seats, almost as if the military service members who attended were there on orders.
