Goodbye, Jimmy Serrano.


Dennis Farina, the dapper, mustachioed cop-turned-actor best known for his tough-as-nails work in such TV series as "Law & Order," "Crime Story," and "Miami Vice," has died. He was 69.

    Police, FBI shoot 2 suspects in East Mount Airy, killing one POSTED: Monday, July 22, 2013, 1:51 PM Police wanted flier for Justin Mackie, 19. (Philadelphia Police) Update, 3:36 p.m.: The two suspects who exchanged gunfire with police and FBI agents in East Mount Airy Monday afternoon have been identified by a police source as Tevin Hammond, 21, and Justin Mackie, 19. The pair, according to police, were wanted in several homicides, shootings and armed robberies throughout the city. Police recently put out a wanted flier for Mackie after obtaining an arrest warrant for him in connection with last Monday's shooting homicide of 20-year-old Tyrone Hayes, who was killed in the courtyard of the Norman Blumberg Apartments, at 23rd and Jefferson streets in North Philly. Hammond, according to police, was pronounced dead at the scene. Mackie was taken to the hospital and listed in stable condition around 3:30 p.m. A police spokesman said one suspect's gun was recoverd at the scene as of 3 p.m., and police continued to investigate the shooting.

    Police shoot man in Wynnefield

    A man is in stable condition after being shot by police in Wynnefield Sunday evening, police said.

    The shooting happened at 5:38 p.m. near 54th and Hazelhurst streets. The details of the shooting are unknown, but police said the man suffered a gunshot wound to the arm. He was taken into custody and transported to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where he is listed in stable condition.

    There were no injuries to police.

    Two injured in shooting near North Philly rec center

    Two people were injured in a shooting near a North Philadelphia recreation center Sunday morning, police said.

    The shooting happened at 10:14 a.m. outside the Winchester Recreation Center on 15th Street near York. Police said a 16-year-old boy was struck in the right hand and a 31-year-old man was hit in the right knee. A third man, who was initially thought to be shot, fell and suffered minor scrapes.

    All three victims were taken to Temple University Hospital in stable condition.
