COLLECTIVE MADNESS
“Soft despotism is a term coined by Alexis de Tocqueville describing the state into which a country overrun by "a network of small complicated rules" might degrade. Soft despotism is different from despotism (also called 'hard despotism') in the sense that it is not obvious to the people."
This is a truly superb video. Did you know that the Japanese Marshal Admiral and commander-in-chief of the Combined Japanese Fleet Yamamto was a Harvard man?
ReplyDeleteYes. :)
Delete15 minute mark shows the condition of US Army at the time.
ReplyDeleteThe Japanese navy at the time of Pearl had 8 carriers, 10 battle ships,18 heavy cruisers, 20 light cruisers, 100 + destroyers and 60 additional ships under construction.
ReplyDeleteAll 8 carriers took part in the attack at pearl harbor, each with over 70 aircraft each.
ReplyDeleteThe aircraft D3A, was the main attack aircraft along with the B5N2 torpedo plane had a crew of three and of course over 70 A6M2 Zero’s participated in the attack.
ReplyDeleteIn 1940 Pearl Harbor,Hawaii was picked as the main base for the US Navy. Pearl had 5 major radar detection arrays and the reports from the one that detected the beginning of the attack were ignored.
ReplyDeleteThe Curtis P40 was the defending fighter for the US. 355 Japanese planes participated in the attack.
ReplyDeleteNo carriers were in port at the time but 100 other ships were anchored on December 7 1941.
ReplyDeleteThe 29 minute mark goes through the main US ships in port as well as the four airfields that served the base at Pearl Harbor.
ReplyDeleteRoosevelt told aids on December 6 that war with Japan was inevitable. Minute 31 gets into the pre attack mindset.
ReplyDeleteThe first wave of attack included 185 planes. US radar detected the force over an hour before the attack but was misinterpreted. Battle ship row was attacked for an hour. Battleship Arizona with a trapped crew of a thousand went down fast.
ReplyDeleteThe second wave of 175 planes arrived after 9 am. The ground and air preparations managed to knock down 20 planes but the Japanese still did great further created great damage to the US. Inexplicably the Japanese request to make a third attack was denied by high Japanese command. 1/3 of the US dead were on the Arizona.
ReplyDeleteThe damage done to the US fleet was restored in 1/8th the time that we have been in Iraq.
ReplyDeleteHusband E Kimmel was charged with dereliction of duty but later cleared.
ReplyDeleteGo to 47 minutes to hear the astonishing fate of some of the Japanese attacking military command, one of which who became a Christian and a US citizen. (no shit)
ReplyDeleteThe war in Singapore begins on the 48 minute mark.
ReplyDeleteEnd of my report of 7 December 2012. Remember.
