…The Middle East is in absolute chaos. Obama created a power vacuum not only in Libya, but in Egypt and elsewhere and Al Qaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood have been only too happy to fill it.
This was written on the day that Ambassador Stevens had been sodomized, murdered, and dragged through the street:
"So now we can see the terrible results of western liberal hubris, the so-called Arab Spring so credulously and stupidly brought into being by Barack Obama. In Libya, the American ambassador and three colleagues have been murdered. In Egypt, the embassy has been sacked. In Yemen, the mob inflamed by Muslim Brotherhood incitement has today stormed the US embassy there.
How Obama et al preened and postured over their role in helping the Libyan ‘opposition’ get rid of Gaddafy! How he congratulated himself at the fall of Mubarak in Egypt! It was the dawn of democracy, he gushed, a new era for Libyans and Egyptians who were all on Twitter and Facebook and so were clearly modern folk keen to enjoy human rights and the rule of law, and who could now have all of that thanks to the enlightened help of Obama.
In fact, the most likely result always was the empowerment of Islamic radicals who would enslave the people and make war against the West.
Nevertheless, Obama stuck to his fantasy of a democratic ‘spring’, even while the evidence mounted up that what he had actually done was create a vacuum which would unleash the Muslim Brotherhood and other Islamic radicals and thus set Libya and Egypt on a path back towards the 7th century.”

Too little too late in Libya
Obama repeated Bush's mistake, and the power vacuum has been filled by jihadists.
By Max Boot LA TIMES
October 21, 2012
The attack in Benghazi, which killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans, was practically the only foreign policy issue to come up in the second presidential debate, and it's sure to come up again in Monday's final debate, which will be entirely devoted to foreign policy.
Last time around, much of the focus was on whether President Obama called it a "terrorist" act. The evidence on this score is ambiguous: In a Rose Garden statement on Sept. 13, the president did decry "acts of terror," but it was not clear whether he was referring to Sept. 11, 2001, in the United States or Sept. 11, 2012, in Libya, and after his remarks, other administration spokesmen preferred to ascribe the attack to spontaneous demonstrations over an anti-Islam video.
But one issue is unambiguous: There has been a crippling and dangerous lack of security in Libya since Moammar Kadafi was overthrown last year with the help of NATO airstrikes. This was an issue that many observers worried about while the war was ongoing: Was there a plan to create security and governance after Kadafi's downfall?
The U.S. could have dispatched an international peacekeeping force for this purpose, on the model of Kosovo and Bosnia, but this option (which I advocated at the time) never seemed to get serious consideration in either Washington or Brussels. Perhaps that's just as well, because there is little doubt that foreign troops on Libyan soil would have been targeted by the same jihadists who killed the U.S. ambassador and previously had attacked the British ambassador.
But there was also no Plan B. If NATO and the Arab League weren't going to send peacekeepers, what were they going to do to ensure a modicum of security? The answer is: not much.
Apparently after Kadafi's fall, the CIA worked with Libyan allies to try to secure the strongman's remaining stockpile of chemical weapons and possibly some of his shoulder-fired antiaircraft missiles, but the U.S. did almost nothing to help the new government in Tripoli disarm militias and restore law and order. This left Libya's new leaders at the mercy of thousands of armed men on its streets who answered only to local warlords or possibly to no one at all.
In a way, if on a much lesser level, Obama was repeating the mistake that President George W. Bush made in Afghanistan and Iraq, two other countries where the U.S. did little to fill a power vacuum after toppling the existing regimes. Those examples should have taught the U.S. a lesson that has been relearned in Libya (and is now being confirmed in Syria): Any power vacuum in the Middle East inevitably gets filled by jihadists, who have access to weapons and a proclivity to use them, while the "silent majority" of moderate Muslims, who are concerned primarily about a better life for themselves and their families, are too cowed to resist.
To be specific, the most costly failure in Libya — for which four State Department representatives paid with their lives — was the failure to do more to help set up a new security force for the nascent, pro-Western state.
Again there is a parallel here with Iraq, albeit on a much smaller scale: While the Bush administration made a mistake in 2003 in disbanding Iraq's army, as many critics have alleged, it compounded this mistake by not moving more quickly to form a new force. This was a job that was relegated to a small number of ineffectual contractors. It did not become a major mission for the U.S. armed forces until 2004, when, with the country already spinning out of control, then-Lt. Gen. David Petraeus took charge of the new Multi-National Security Transition Command-Iraq. The Iraqi security forces began to grow in size and competence, but the process took years to make a meaningful impact.
The Obama administration has waited about as long to get serious about security in Libya. Not until last month, just days before the attacks in Benghazi, did the State Department and Defense Department ask Congress to redirect $8 million in Pentagon funds to send Special Forces teams to help build a 500-strong Libyan special operations force, to be modeled on the highly capable Iraqi and Afghan special operations forces that have been created over the past decade.
Good idea, but it's too little too late. Why wasn't such an initiative undertaken a year ago when Kadafi was overthrown? And why is it limited to 500 special operators? However good those troops will turn out to be, by themselves they cannot possibly control thousands of militiamen.
A more ambitious program is needed, to be undertaken not only by the United States but by the same European and Arab allies that waged war to topple Kadafi (especially Britain, France, Qatar and the United Arab Republic). The goal would be to help build a state in Libya capable of controlling its own territory. This won't require the dispatch of large numbers of ground troops, just trainers and advisors. Libyan troops could also be sent to other nations for instruction, just as some Iraqi police recruits were trained in Jordan.
Nation-building (or, more accurately, "state building") is an enormously difficult and time-consuming task, but it is also inescapable if we are to avoid more fiascoes like the deadly assault on our Benghazi consulate.

I could not disagree more. If we want to avoid fiascoes, focus on rebuilding the failed state of Detroit and about 250 other US cities.

They were divided up back in Roman times in the same tribal ways. The coming of the Prophet hasn't changed much, though islam was said to be called to do just that.
Kind of like 'out of many, one', so the islamic goal was said to be.
Where's Joe Biden when we need him? Why not two, three Libyas?
Why not out of one, many?
This won't require the dispatch of large numbers of ground troops, just trainers and advisors.

ReplyDeleteFriends, please listen to this man: and PLEASE pass it on to everyone you know: it lays out in frightening detail Obama’s extensive, deep Communist connections (yes, flat-out Communist, and not just in sympathies; actual agents). If you think that sounds extreme, just listen to what Trevor Loudon has uncovered.
Some of this you folks already know. But it’s even worse than most of us thought.
For instance, did you know about Leon Panetta’s Communist ties?
Did you know how the Communists covertly engineered the New Zealand prohibition of any nuclear-POWERED ships in their ports, thus destroying the ANZUS alliance at a stroke?
Loudon says the Number One target of the worldwide Communists, specifically the Russians and Chinese, is the American military. Do you know what they have planned?
Did you know what Obama and the other communists in our government plan to do in the next four years?
(and there’s more, all bad; all urgent) . . .

ReplyDeleteOkay, Wretchard, now that I have read your post, I see my link above is apposite, after all: that’s the very point that Mr Loudon makes. From his vantage point in New Zealand, which he says is lovely to visit but is firmly in the hands of a Marxist government, he warns us that if the fertilizer hits the fan, New Zealand will be no refuge. Neither will Australia, which will be staring up at Red China’s hobnailed boot. Nor Europe, which has already been eaten away by the Marxist plague and will in any case have to deal with the resurgent Putin and Russia.
This is IT, folks. If we can’t start cleaning out our Augean stables of the filths that inhabit them, IOW if we can’t take back the White House AND the Senate decisively, then we really will have reached a point of no return.
God help us. And God help the rest of the world if we go down: it’s going to be terrible.

By now we’ve gotten the basic details of the terrorist attack on our consulate in Benghazi — no thanks to the White House, which tried to pass it off as a “spontaneous demonstration” that “spun out of control” for more than a week after the attack. Obama negotiating with the Taliban is reminiscant of Kissenger talking to the North Vietnamese in Paris. Just say and do what it takes with whoever is necessary to get out of the mess you have gotten yourself in. Then declare victory and go home.
Not that I object to the declare victory and go home part, it's merely that I object to negotiating with the Taliban scum who shoot 14 year old kids in the head for demanding that girls be allowed to be educated, scum who destroy millenia old artwork and culture for religious reasons, and scum who murder adherants of other religions for failing to see the "truth" the Taliban sees.

ReplyDeleteWASHINGTON — Even as Susan E. Rice took to the Sunday talk shows last month to describe the Obama administration’s assessment of the Sept. 11 attack on the American diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya, intelligence analysts suspected that the explanation was outdated.
Ms. Rice, the United States ambassador to the United Nations, has said that the judgments she offered on the five talk shows on Sept. 16 came from talking points prepared by the C.I.A., which reckoned that the attack that killed Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and three other Americans had resulted from a spontaneous mob that was angry about an anti-Islamic video that had set off protests elsewhere. That assessment, described to Ms. Rice in briefings the day before her television appearances, was based on intercepted communications, informants’ tips and Libyan press reports, officials said.
Lying lazy son of a bitch. He was not reading the reports nor was he paying attention to his meetings and briefings. He did not have the curiosity to do follow-up, nor did he take the time to try.

Actually, yes. He should have. Does anyone remember “slam dunk”? The CIA often has been wrong and for good reason. They have to be out in front with next week’s newspaper, not yesterdays. Obama should know that by now. The fact that he doesn’t tells me all that I need to know. He is not qualified to be in that office. A young buck twenty year old with three stripes on his arm would know better. :)
Delete.
ReplyDeleteI would say he should have told the CIA they were full of shit or at least questioned their assessment given that
The CIA station chief in Libya reported to Washington within 24 hours of last month's deadly attack on the U.S. Consulate that there was evidence it was carried out by militants, not a spontaneous mob upset about an American-made video ridiculing Islam's Prophet Muhammad, U.S. officials have told The Associated Press.
Whether the responsible guys in CIA didn't see the communication from their guy on the ground in Libya or they just ignored it, they still screwed the pooch.
As for Rice's statement (and why was the UN ambassador speaking for the administration on embassy security), the argument was that there was a lot of confusion and the events were still being evaluated. Bullshit. If they didn't know who was involved or why on the attack why not just saying that instead of going with the video story. The cynical might say Rice was thrown out there as the good soldier to provide plausible deniability for others in the administration. They might also say that the video story was to cover the administration lies about how well the Libyan government was doing after the war we led. Of course, that is only what the cynical might say.

ReplyDeleteMittmentum: New Ohio Polls Better Than They Appear
By Josh Jordan
October 21, 2012 9:27 P.M.
Two new Ohio polls came out yesterday after my Ohio post, from from Gravis Marketing and PPP, both of which point to a razor-thin race in the most coveted swing state. A closer look at each poll shows just how much Romney has gained since the debates, and why he would be absolutely thrilled if these polls were accurate on Election Day.
The poll from Gravis Marketing shows Obama and Romney tied at 47 percent. But that’s as good as it gets for Obama. Among the most interesting tidbits from the poll:
Romney leads Obama by 19 percent among independents, 52–33, and holds 92 percent of his base compared to Obama’s 87 percent. Obama is underwater in job approval, 44–50, and independents disapprove of him overwhelmingly, 31–58. And the poll has a Democratic advantage of 9 percent, which is a 4 percent jump from 2008 — no one believes that Democrats can match their 2008 turnout advantage, let alone almost double it.
PPP (a Democratic firm) released their new poll yesterday showing Obama only up one point, 49 to 48. Just a week ago PPP had the race at 51–46 for Obama. But the four-point gain for Romney is even more impressive when you look at the poll’s findings:
This week’s poll has a Democrat sample advantage of 8 percent; last week’s advantage was 4. Romney gained four points on Obama in a week despite the sample’s having four percentage points more Democrats. Romney leads with independents by 7 percent, up from a 5 percent last week. Obama’s approval is underwater at 48–50, and independents disapprove of him by a 41–54 margin. Last week Obama was in positive approval ground at 50–48, and independents disapproved by a much smaller 45–50 margin. Romney’s favorability has gone from a minus-6 margin last week (45–51) to a plus-2 this week (49–47). Trust on the economy went from Obama plus-5 last week (51–46) to plus-4 in Romney’s direction this week (51–47). Independents jumped from Romney plus-5 last week to Romney plus-15 this week.
These two polls highlight what many saw in the second debate: Romney may have lost the overall debate, but he won handily on the issues of the economy, debt, and taxes. While Democrats were riding high this week after Obama narrowly won the face-off, Romney was quietly solidifying support from voters by commanding the issues that matter most. Based on these two polls, the only way Obama can win Ohio is if he finds a way to greatly surpass 2008 turnout with Democrats, which at the moment seems like an impossible task. If these polls hold, it won’t be long before the state Romney was declared dead in knocks down the last pillar of inevitability that Obama has left.

ReplyDeleteWe got ourselves an 'inside the Beltway bob' moderator for tonight's debate, boys. Look out for him mountin' Barry on the tame ponies, an' tryin' to pin Mr. Romney between the brahma's horns. Ain't no improvement over that Crawley missy who played bozos rodeo clown.

ReplyDeleteHow to Abandon Our Bravest Citizens in a War Zone
Hugh de Payns
Watching a video of a consulate being overrun while a credible defensive response is almost immediately available is criminally negligent.
Late last week, CBS News reported that several significant military options were available and very, very nearby.
CBS News has been told that, hours after the attack began, an unmanned Predator drone was sent over the U.S. mission in Benghazi, and that the drone and other reconnaissance aircraft apparently observed the final hours of the protracted battle...
The Pentagon says it did move a team of special operators from central Europe to the large Naval Air Station in Sigonella, Italy, but gave no other details. Sigonella is just an hour's flight from Libya. Other nearby bases include Aviano and Souda Bay. Military sources tell CBS News that resources at the three bases include fighter jets and Specter AC-130 gunships, which the sources say can be extremely effective in flying in and buzzing a crowd to disperse it.
To reiterate from the report, one choice was only an hour away: send one, two, or even three of the available AC 130 Spectre gunships overhead to lay down a murderous suppressive fire around the Benghazi consulate. Apparently these gunships are frightening things to behold and terrifying to face. According to several people who have firsthand experience with these aircraft, these planes are flying gun platforms bristling with multiple 20mm Gatling guns and rapid-fire recoilless 40mm and 105mm artillery.
Sending a gunship over the consulate might even have ended this engagement immediately by convincing the attackers to head home. If two were cycled, then nearly continual coverage would have been possible until a contingent of U.S. forces arrived to deal with what remained.
Instead, the White House did nothing.
To be clear: if this information is correct, two U.S. Navy SEALs did not abandon their posts.
We abandoned them.
Correction: for several hours, the White House watched videos of our men fighting off these animals, while they abandoned our brave men -- men whose lives were of more value than everyone in the White House who decided to do nothing and go to bed that night.
Yes, we should understand that employing the Spectres would have involved risks, one of which is sending military forces into a sovereign nation. Yet from all appearances, Libya -- and Benghazi in particular -- is "Indian Country" and is completely lawless and largely ungoverned. This of course begs for another point of order: revelation of what our U.S. ambassador was doing in such a dangerous and uncontrolled area to begin with.
Taking advantage of the firepower we have -- again, to preserve and safeguard the lives of the brave men we send abroad -- would send a message: U.S. interests and the safety of our diplomatic staff will be protected, and sovereign U.S. property will be vigorously defended. Finally, our citizens in uniform must understand that they will not be abandoned.
No one gets left behind.
...Unless, that is, Mr. Obama is making the decisions. In that case, you are just another inconvenient person to be thrown under the bus. It's getting crowded under the Obama bus. How long until he throws America under the bus?
Shame on our government, and shame on the people in the White House.

Hell, I do believe that Libyan oil is flowing to Italy and France.
ReplyDeleteMission Accomplished!
The "rest" of it, nothing but eyewash.
.
ReplyDeleteIf you really think that was the reason for Obama's Libyan intervention, then you make the case that Obama sold out the US as a reverse mercenary who has no problem offering baksheesh not only to our enemies (the Taliban) but also to our 'friends' the Italians and the French. By the way,I think you forgot about the UK and the BP deals.

ReplyDeleteSon of State Senator Neal Kedzie Attacked
Posted Monday, October 22, 2012 --- 4:40 p.m.
State Senator Neal Kedzie says his son was attacked while trying to stop someone from stealing his Romney/Ryan yard sign.
Whitewater Police tell NBC15 News this is an active investigation.
Here is the statement released by Senator Neal Kedzie:
Early on Friday morning, October 19th, my son Sean was awakened by noises outside his residence in Whitewater. As he went to see what the commotion was about, he noticed an individual removing a Romney/Ryan yard sign from his property. He yelled to the person that they were taking something not theirs and to return it immediately.
The individual returned the sign, however, a second person confronted and attacked Sean without warning.
Sean was wrestled to the ground by both persons, held down by a constricting chokehold, and struck repeatedly about the face and head.
He nearly passed out from the chokehold and suffered contusions to his face and eyes.
Fortunately, an alert neighbor heard the commotion, scared the individuals away, and called the police.

Yep, just the kind of Chickshit Thuggery that Rufie and Deserter rat love so much.
Perfect for supporters of POTASS, BHO.
Yep, that's as bad as Romney and his little bully buddies holding that kid down, and forcibly cutting his hair.
DeleteThe incredibly shrinking Obama. He tried to goad Romney into a fight and Romney did not take the bait. Obama had a mission to show stature above Romney and failed. Romney looked more presidential, more prudent and more assured. Obama shrank in comparrison.
ReplyDeleteRomney successfully argued that American security begins with a strong economy. In doing that, Romney outsmarted Obama with an argument Obama could not win.
ReplyDeleteObama did not meet his match, he met his master.
ReplyDeleteRight.
ReplyDeleteAnd all that baloney about Israel. I don't think Obama has ever been to Israel. Gave a big speech in Berlin though.
That air craft carrier stuff....
I'm glad that is the last one. Don't mind listening to Romney but I truly hope that is the last I ever have to listen to Obama.
Romney wins the debate.
My wife's take is, Romney won the debate, but, since she has now turned her attention to Dancing With The Stars, Obama would do better there. Hopefully, she will get to watch Obama on Dancing With The Stars one of these months.

Won by 11% in PPP Poll, and 8% in CNN (no info, yet, on the demographic makeup of the PPP, and CNN Polls.)

LOL - it just struck me how ridiculous his "ask any reporter" comment really was. Thanks for pointing out how in the tank the media is for you, Mr. President.

ReplyDeleteLast Debate Proves Mitt Way Ahead
C. Edmund Wright
If anyone still doubts the Gallup Poll -- and common sense -- showing that Mitt Romney is way ahead in the polls, all they had to do was watch the third presidential debate to have their minds changed. Romney put the game into the "four corners" stall, running out the clock while turning away numerous chances for easy slam-dunks and taking care not to stop the clock. Barack Obama, meanwhile, was pressing, slashing, and committing all kinds of fouls. Referee Bob Schieffer, not wanting to share in Candy Crowley's sordid legacy, let the players play.
That's the good news.
The bad news is that since Mitt is ahead and George W. Bush is the devil, we have to pretend that it was indeed Obama, with Crocodile Dundee's knife clenched between his teeth, who brought Osama bin Laden to justice. Never mind that bin Laden was located with interrogation techniques Obama campaigned against and insists do not work. Never mind the gathering of this intelligence was done largely before Obama took office. Never mind that Obama threatened to hold up the pay for the Seals as a bargaining chip in a budget negotiation with John Boehner. Never mind that Obama won't use the term "Islamic terrorism" or "the War on Terror." In fact, I guess we have to suspend our disbelief for a second and disregard the fact that everything that led to Osama bin Laden's death originated with conservatives and was opposed by liberals like Obama at every step. Since Mitt is way ahead, it's ok to congratulate Obama on that point anyway.
Puh-leeze.
As unsavory as all of this is to swallow, it is nonetheless strong evidence that Romney's campaign realizes Mitt is fast pulling away from Obama. Obama's slash and burn techniques show me that his campaign understands the same thing. No one in either campaign really believes a 2008 turnout model is valid, and that is the primary methodology that is keeping Obama "ahead" or "tied" in certain polls. Gallup, which has showed a 6-7 point Romney lead for several days in a row now, is about what the other polls would show if they would simply use a reasonable party affiliation turnout model.
Mitt is 6-7 points ahead nationally and 2-5 in the swing states. He knows it. Obama knows it. They all showed the nation last night they know it. That is the big takeaway from the final debate.
DeleteJoe+The+Electrician
Ahead by 6 to 7 points today. It'll be by 14 points when Trump releases the divorce papers Michelle drew up while obama was a senator claiming the Prez was foolin around with the guys. Rumor or fact. Stay tuned wednesday at noon.
bookworm
I heard that about two weeks ago - and what were their names? Larry Sinclair and Donald Young? Then there was the Pakistani roommate at Occidental - isn't he the one who gave BO the gold ring he's been wearing since 1980 and Michelle also used as his wedding ring in 1991? That ring, acording to Mid-East Muslim experts, is really quite common in the Middle East: Engraved on the outside in Arabic: "there is no god but allah." If it is one of the common rings found in the Middle East, then engraved on the inside is the second statement of faith of Islam: "and mohammed is his prophet." Also according to what I read, it was the Rev Wright who talked Michelle out of a divorce. What did he say to her? "Hang in there girl, and you'll have a $gazillion-home in Hawaii!"?

DeleteHuge strategic mistake! Will only pump up the libs on BHO's behalf. Worse, the news would be so egregious that even middle-of-the-roaders will think it's a "Karl Rove" ploy.
It is clear that Romney is gaining momentum on his own merits, and he doesn't need what may well be (mis)construed as a desperate fabrication on the part of the GOP.
Let Romney win because he is Romney, and not because BHO is...well, Trump is gonna fill in that blank!

This guy might be right.
We don't want a perfectly good tragedy, like we have going, to turn into a farce.
Obama, by the way, is an excellent tragic hero. Brought low (hopefully) by his own flaws. A Shakespearean kinda guy, in a way, in a democratic setting.
Those stupid styrofoam pillars, a real tip off. Overbearing pride. In an empty suit.
A little girl with an ice cream cone getting hit by a bus is not tragic. That is pathetic. But Obama does have some tragic qualities, some tragic flaws to bring him low.
God I hope he's outta there before he takes the country with him.
Heh, I wonder what Ruf might say should it turn out his guy really is a cocksucker.
