COLLECTIVE MADNESS
“Soft despotism is a term coined by Alexis de Tocqueville describing the state into which a country overrun by "a network of small complicated rules" might degrade. Soft despotism is different from despotism (also called 'hard despotism') in the sense that it is not obvious to the people."

Report: Anheuser-Busch agrees to InBev sale
ST. LOUIS — Anheuser-Busch reportedly has agreed to be acquired by Belgian brewer InBev for $49.9 billion.
The deal being reported by The Wall Street Journal would create the world's largest brewer and put the iconic American beer maker in the hands of the Belgian-based company behind Stella Artois and Beck's beers.
The newspaper cited anonymous sources who said Anheuser-Busch-InBev would be the new company's name and Anheuser would have two seats on the company board.
Anheuser-Busch did not return a message seeking comment Sunday evening.
The newspaper said the deal was for $70 a share. That's an increase over InBev's original offer that was rejected in June.

Wonder if this move will lead to the expansion of Hensley Distributing's product line, here in Phoenix?
ReplyDeleteTo date they have refused to traffic in products other than Anheuser-Busch products, like Beck's beer.
This could effect the McCain family cash flow, much more than getting elected President would.
Don't fund the further globaliszation of the Americas!
ReplyDeleteDrink domestic!
Samuel Adams,
an American beer
Well, as someone who hates "bud", unless it's 2 am and 40 degrees on a campout in front of a fire...
ReplyDeletethanks for the 49 BILLION........
Bring on some real Belgian Beer....
I remember sitting in this bar in Brussels and seeing HUNDREDS of flavors of beer on the "menu" and thinking wow is this for real?
now i have no taste for apple cinnamon beer, pork sausage beer or even bitterlemon with a twist beer but the beer i drank there and in the English Gardens in Germany was AMAZING...
If we could have that stuff here, I'd "eat" a pint of that a day....
Best beer I ever drank was Heineken in Holland. Not at all like the swill here. American beer sucks, and Bud is about the worst of it, as I recall. In my beer drinking days it was Coors.
ReplyDeleteThere used to be a poster 'Body by Bud' showing this huge fat ass guy. Tried to find it but can't.
The meaning of life?
A slow upward spiral towards the light, always something more.
The beer industry has been rationalizing & shrinking for years -- the product of a world in which girly-men drink wine & the market for beer stagnates.
ReplyDeleteAs to the meaning of life -- it is worth dusting off the history of beer, the very root of civilization.
There is a good argument that mankind found out by accident about fermentation of grass seeds into beer around 7 thousand years ago. Meeting the demand for beer required more grass seed, leading to the invention of agriculture. Agriculture created a demand for energy, leading to the adoption of slavery (the original "green" renewable energy). Slave-powered agriculture led to civilization, allowing the Egyptians to build pyramids and the Greeks to philosophize.
Now beer drinking is in decline, as is civilization itself. And the wine-swilling girly-men want to return to "renewable" energy.
It is the end of the world as we know it. Raise a final glass, future slaves, and then put on the harness and do your green master's bidding.
