Farage identities the all time colluder within corrupt EU: George Soros

Look at the smug smiling faces on these corrupt EU drones:

'List of Soros' Names 226 MEPs in Europe Who Are Under the Complete Control of George Soros

The “list of Soros” exposes the EU as nothing more than a mechanism for the elitist billionaire to promote his neo-liberal policies consisting of border-less mass migration, same-sex marriage, integration of Ukraine into the EU, and war with Russia.

There are 751 members of the European Parliament and George Soros controls more than one third of those European Parliament seats.

“European democracy is a façade to hide the activities of power structure close to feudal system with local lord holding the reins.”

Via The Strategic Culture Foundation: “The Myth of European Democracy: A Shocking Revelation”…

It’s an open secret that the “Soros network” has an extensive sphere of influence in the European Parliament and in other European Union institutions. The list of Soros has been made public recently.

The document lists 226 MEPs from all sides of political spectrum, including former President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz, former Belgian PM Guy Verhofstadt, seven vice-presidents, and a number of committee heads, coordinators, and quaestors.

These people promote the ideas of Soros, such as bringing in more migrants, same-sex marriages, integration of Ukraine into the EU, and countering Russia. There are 751 members of the European Parliament. It means that the Soros friends have more than one third of seats.

George Soros, a Hungarian-American investor and the founder and owner of Open Society Foundations NGO, was able to meet with President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker with “no transparent agenda for their closed-door meeting”, and pointed out how EU proposals to redistribute quotas of migrants across the EU are eerily familiar to Soros’s own self-published plan for dealing with the crisis.

The billionaire financier believes that the European Union should receive millions of immigrants from the Middle East and Northern Africa, provide each one with an annual 15,000 EUR in aid, and resettle these migrants in member-states where they do not wish to go and are not necessarily welcome.

New World Order's Stealthy Tool of Subversion: NGOs

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has accused the EU of “eating out of the hand” of Soros. He believes that the billionaire open borders campaigner is behind the attacks on Hungary.

The reason is the government’s attempts to take legal action over a new law which requires foreign-supported ‘civil society’ organizations — many funded by Soros — to list their big overseas donors in a public register and be transparent about their funding sources in their publications. The Hungarian government is applying efforts to close the Budapest-based Central European University founded by Soros.
“The whole of the European Union is in trouble because its leaders and bureaucrats adopt decisions like this,” said Orbán. “The people support the ideal of the European Union. At the same time, they can’t stand the leadership of the EU, because it insults the Member-States with things like this, and it abuses its power. Everyone in Europe can see that. This is why the European leadership is not respected.”
The Visegrad group is trying to stand tall under the EU pressure on migrants’ policy. The European Commission of Migration and Home Affairs is pushing a new bill to make migrants quotas obligatory. At least 30 Soros supporters work for the commission.

Many people listed in the document are known for attacks on Russia. For instance, Rebecca Harms, a MEP from German Green Party, regularly calls the European Parliament to toughen the sanctions regime against Moscow. Guy Verhofstadt blames Russia for almost each and every thing going wrong in Europe.

His article Putting Putin in his Place made a lot of noise last year. In 2012, former Croatian Primer Tonino Picula, who was the head of an observer mission from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), slammed the Russian presidential election of 2012 as unfair, saying it was “skewed” in Vladimir Putin’s favor.

The Soros list sheds light on the question of what makes the EU leadership implement policies, which run counter to the interests of Europeans. The answer is corruption. The politicians bribed by Soros dance to his tune. They fight against the attempts of national leaders to protect the interests of their peoples.

Quite often those who oppose such policies have to face the resistance of political elites of their own countries. The standoff between Hungarian PM Orbán and the Soros network is a good example to illustrate how it works. The European Parliament under the influence of Soros friends is pushing Europe to suicide by letting millions of migrants in.

Soros Hack: Top 10 Machinations of a NWO Master Manipulator

It shows that the much-vaunted European democracy is a façade to hide the activities of power structure close to feudal system with local lord holding the reins. It can hardly be called the power of people. The publication of Soros list provides a clue to understanding who rules the EU and who instigates anti-Russia sentiments in Europe.

Actually, this is the case when EU member countries like Hungary happen to be in the same boat with Russia opposing the very same US-based forces, while protecting their sovereignty and independence. This is the time for Europeans to think about transforming the system to do away with outside pressure.

  1. A massive hack of socialist billionaire George Soros' Open Society Foundations suggests that his various nonprofit organizations are little more than fronts for his many political activities. His growing closeness to Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton should be a warning to all.

The hack by a group called DC Leaks, includes 2,576 files from various Soros groups from 2008 to 2016. The DC Leaks website says the attack was "launched by American hacktivists who respect and appreciate freedom of speech, human rights and government of the people."

Apart from the ease with which the Soros group's computer system was breached, what we're learning so far fills in the troubling details of how Soros goes about his business. No doubt, in coming days, more revelations will emerge as researchers comb through the thousands of documents.

But what's emerged so far is eye-opening. In one of the purloined memos from 2011, titled "Extreme Polarization and Breakdown in Civil Discourse," a nonprofit Soros group proposes conducting opposition research on a number of highly prominent American critics of radical Islam, including Pamela Geller, Frank Gaffney and Robert Spencer. It also targeted conservative activists and intellectuals David Horowitz, Daniel Pipes, Cliff May and former Vice President Dick Cheney's daughter, Liz Cheney. All of them are strongly pro-Israel and have warned about the threat of radical Islam.

The memo suggests that the research was outsourced to the Center for American Progress (CAP), a leftist think tank that has "received millions of dollars in grants from Soros' groups," the Daily Caller's Chuck Ross reports.

Oh yes, CAP also happens to have been founded by John Podesta, Hillary' Clinton's campaign chief. One of many close ties between Soros and Clinton.

Plato's Cave and Our Current Reality
    By Earick Ward

What is reality? Do you think we know what is true today?

What if I told you, that what you think you know of our [current] reality is but a lie? A series of images projected upon a wall in a cave.

Plato wrote of such a thing in his “prisoners in a cave” allegory. In it he describes prisoners being born in a cave, shackled, facing a wall. Images passed in front of a fire, are projected onto a wall in front of the prisoners. This for the prisoners, is reality. They know of nothing beyond what they’re exposed to by the light. As the allegory continues, what if a prisoner is somehow freed? He at once, seeing the fire, would be blinded by its brightness, so that he would no longer be able to see the shadows. If told that “this is reality”, in his pain and fear, he would not believe, and would demand to be reshackled to the wall. Continuing further, what if he was forced from the cave altogether? Again, he would be blinded by the light of the sun. Eventually, as his eyes grew accustomed to the light, he would see the world for what it truly is. Plato concludes the allegory by suggesting that, seeing reality (for what it is), our freed prisoner would feel sorry for his fellow prisoners, and seek to return to the cave, to help free his fellow prisoners. Upon returning to the cave, our enlightened prisoner would be blinded by the darkness. The prisoners, believing that the journey outside the cave harmed this man, would fight to the death, any attempts to free them from their bondage.

    Freedom / Bondage

A similar story is told in the Bible, in Exodus 16:3, and recounted again in Numbers 14:4.....

There is a lot of furor over some material being published on a site called 4chan by someone named "Q clearance anon". His postings (I assume it's a he for no reason) suggest that there are over a thousand sealed indictments and that what happened in Saudi Arabia will happen here with the arrests of all sorts of Democrats (especially Hillary and company) as well as others like John McCain. It is all just too much to be true, but still it is so tempting that you end up wishing this fantasy actually turns out to be true.

This comment by one Cleetus, an honest looking American if one has ever been born, proves what I have long suspected - that poor Q has finally lost his mind.

  4. Are You A Jerk ?

How to Tell If You’re a Jerk

If you think everyone around you is terrible, the joke may be on you.

    BY ERIC SCHWITZGEBEL
    NOVEMBER 16, 2017

....I suspect there is a zero correlation between people’s self-opinion about their degree of jerkitude and their true overall degree of jerkitude. Some recalcitrant jerks might recognize that they are so, but others might think themselves quite dandy. Some genuine sweethearts might fully recognize how sweet they are, while others might have far too low an opinion of their own moral character.

There’s another obstacle to jerk self-knowledge, too: We don’t yet have a good understanding of the essence of jerkitude—not yet, at least. There is no official scientific designation that matches the full range of ordinary application of the term “jerk” to the guy who rudely cuts you off in line, the teacher who casually humiliates the students, and the co-worker who turns every staff meeting into a battle.

Jerks see the world through goggles that dim others’ humanity.

The scientifically recognized personality categories closest to “jerk” are the “dark triad” of narcissism, Machiavellianism, and psychopathic personality. Narcissists regard themselves as more important than the people around them, which jerks also implicitly or explicitly do. And yet narcissism is not quite jerkitude, since it also involves a desire to be the center of attention, a desire that jerks don’t always have. Machiavellian personalities tend to treat people as tools they can exploit for their own ends, which jerks also do. And yet this too is not quite jerkitude, since Machivellianism involves self-conscious cynicism, while jerks can often be ignorant of their self-serving tendencies. People with psychopathic personalities are selfish and callous, as is the jerk, but they also incline toward impulsive risk-taking, while jerks can be calculating and risk-averse.

    Jerk_BR_F

Another related concept is the concept of the asshole, as explored recently by the philosopher Aaron James of the University of California, Irvine. On James’s theory, assholes are people who allow themselves to enjoy special advantages over others out of an entrenched sense of entitlement. Although this is closely related to jerkitude, again it’s not quite the same thing. One can be a jerk through arrogant and insulting behavior even if one helps oneself to no special advantages....

  6. Fearlessness and Blank Brain Syndrome

The Strange Brain of the World’s Greatest Solo Climber

Alex Honnold doesn’t experience fear like the rest of us.

    http://nautil.us/issue/39/sport/the-strange-brain-of-the-worlds-greatest-solo-climber?utm_source=Nautilus&utm_campaign=e55acc8caf-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2017_11_17&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_dc96ec7a9d-e55acc8caf-61378241

I may have discovered the true cause of Quirk's total fearlessness in extreme situations.

Earlier I had assumed it the boozing.

But it may be his amygdala isn't firing properly, and his brain is a blank.

This makes a good deal of sense, knowing him as I do. I have seen him brave and no boozing.

“What do all the brain pictures mean?” Honnold asks, looking at the brightly colored fMRI images that Joseph has sent him. “Is my brain intact?”

“Your brain’s intact,” says Joseph. “And it’s quite interesting.”

Even to the untrained eye, the reason for her interest is clear. Joseph had used a control subject—a high-sensation-seeking male rock climber of similar age to Honnold—for comparison. Like Honnold, the control subject had described the scanner tasks as utterly unstimulating. Yet in the fMRI images of the two men’s responses to the high-arousal photographs, with brain activity indicated in electric purple, the control subject’s amygdala might as well be a neon sign. Honnold’s is gray. He shows zero activation.

Flip to the scans for the monetary reward task: Once again, the control subject’s amygdala and several other brain structures “look like a Christmas tree lit up,” Joseph says. In Honnold’s brain, the only activity is in the regions that process visual input, confirming only that he had been awake and looking at the screen. The rest of his brain is in lifeless black and white.

“There’s just not much going on in my brain,” Honnold muses. “It just doesn’t do anything.”

He actually made an equivalency between his stealing property from his fellow Jews in Hungary when the Nazis were there, and playing the financial markets today.

If I weren't involved, he reasons, the stealing would have gone on just the same, just as the financial markets now would continue on their merry course without me involved. So, whether I am involved or not, things are just the same. Might as well get something out of it. If I don't someone else will, he 'reasons'.

(CNN)President Donald Trump on Sunday shot back at Lavar Ball, the father of one of the UCLA basketball players arrested in China, for belittling the President's role in the students' release.

"Now that the three basketball players are out of China and saved from years in jail, LaVar Ball, the father of LiAngelo, is unaccepting of what I did for his son and that shoplifting is no big deal," Trump tweeted. "I should have left them in jail!"

Days after Trump touted his involvement in the release of three students who were arrested in China on suspicion of shoplifting, Ball suggested the President had little to do with the matter.
"Who?" Ball told ESPN when asked about Trump's role in the situation. "What was he over there for? Don't tell me nothing. Everybody wants to make it seem like he helped me out."

    by KEVIN D. WILLIAMSON November 19, 2017 4:00 AM @KEVINNR

She’s not good at being inconspicuous, which is a shame. First ladies are bad enough, and the recent habit of referring to the wife of the vice president as “the second lady” is nauseating. The first Mrs. Trump does have a point: From a certain point of view, Melania is the third lady. But what the hell is Steven Mnuchin’s wife? The eighth or ninth lady?

Mnuchin, formerly of Goldman Sachs, is pure Wall Street malignity in concentrated form, a guy who looks like he was born wearing a blue suit and braces. And that, in itself, is okay: A little Scrooge McDuck–style sphincter-clenching is kind of what you want in a Treasury secretary. But Mnuchin is not satisfied to be a pure example of one kind of awful: He has to adulterate his Wall Street awfulness with Hollywood awfulness.

You’ll see his name in the credits of a few big-budget movies (including the recent Wonder Woman film and The LEGO Movie) and on a bunch of campaign-donation checks written to Barack Obama, Hillary Rodham Clinton, John Kerry, Al Gore, Kamala Harris, and other erstwhile friends of Wall Street. But movies are where his heart is. Hence, the wife.

Powered by Mnuchin is married to Louise Linton, a Scottish actress. Put an asterisk next to that job description, though: She’s an “actress” in the same way that a lot of trust-fund kids are “entrepreneurs” and “business owners,” and a lot of dim children of CEOs are “executive vice presidents.”

She was raised partly in a castle outside Edinburgh, and most of her immediate family is employed by Linton Hay Property and the Hay Trust, which is — this will surprise you — in the business of renovating and leasing castles owned by the Linton-Hay family. Without the spur of needing to pay the bills, Linton has had a cinematic career that you might call “leisurely.”

She was nearly 30 before her first film, Robert Redford’s Lions for Lambs, in which she had a small role that was, after the edits were done, reduced to a nonexistent role. Since then, she’s had roles in a lot of films you’ve never heard of and one that you may have, Cabin Fever.

She also published a book, In the Shadow of Congo, a memoir about the semester abroad she spent in “war-torn Zambia,” a tale replete with child soldiers, Hutu–Tutsi ethnic warfare, monsoons, and the general horror of the Congolese war that beset the “angel-haired” (her description of herself) visitor from the United Kingdom.

There were many problems with that account, including the fact that the Congolese war wasn’t fought in Zambia, which has in fact never been at war, but if it had been at war, that war wouldn’t have been the Hutu–Tutsi conflict, which happened in Rwanda, which isn’t where Linton was. She was down in Zambia, which does not have the monsoons she claimed to have endured. The book was a gross and embarrassing example of the “white savior” genre, and a particularly illiterate and dishonest one at that. It has been withdrawn from publication.....

Somebody Has Been Sending Messages To Extraterrestrials On Their Own
JAZZ SHAWPosted at 4:31 pm on November 19, 2017

For a long time now, the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) has been listening for any signs of other intelligent life in the universe. Despite a few moments of potential hope such as the WOW signal, the results have been disappointing to say the least. It seems that at least one group of people have grown tired of waiting around for the aliens to call us and taken matters into their own hands. Yes, SETI apparently has some competition in the form of METI (Messaging Extraterrestrial Intelligence). The San Francisco based group (where else?) cooked up a plan to reach out and touch somebody on an interstellar scale and see if they could elicit a response.

Here’s the thing. This isn’t some proposal posted on the international drawing board and up for discussion. They did it last month all on their own. (Fox News)

Messaging Extraterrestrial Intelligence (METI) International sent an encoded message into space using radio waves known as “Sonar Calling GJ273b,” which the organization’s president and founder Doug Vakoch, believes could be received by intelligent life.

“[The message is] distinctive because it’s designed with extraterrestrial SETI scientists in mind. We sent the sort of signal we’d want to receive here on Earth,” he said in an interview with CNET.

METI’s purpose, along with the well-known Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI), has a number of missions, including understanding and communicating “the societal implications and relevance of searching for life beyond Earth, even before detection of extraterrestrial life.”

They sent their signal beaming toward a red dwarf known as Luyten’s Star which is 12 light years away and believed to have an earth sized planet orbiting it in the habitable zone. It’s one of the closest leading contenders for an exoplanet which may harbor life. And considering how long those red dwarf stars live, it could have had a long time to cook something up.

    1. The implications are obvious. What if they actually get an answer in 25 years? And what if that answer comes in a definitely hostile form rather than just a friendly hello? People along the lines of Stephen Hawking have regularly warned the world that attempting to communicate with a possible alien civilization well in advance of our own is probably a disastrous idea. If you want to know how things work out for the less developed species in a first contact scenario with a more technologically advanced one, just ask the Native Americans and multiply the capabilities gap by a million or so.

Some are no doubt thinking that it’s pointless to worry about because we’ve been broadcasting our radio and television signals out into space for a century, right? Well… yes. But those were broadcast primarily along the surface of the Earth by low power transmitters in broad waves which dissipate quickly. The waves that “leak out” of the atmosphere are diffuse and grow more so by the second. Just detecting and capturing a rerun of I Love Lucy from the orbit of Pluto and reassembling it without knowing the precise frequency and type of signal you were looking for would be a massive challenge. How much of that signal would be left 12 light years away, competing with all the static from the Sun and the other stars is an open question.

But METI is taking a far more direct root. They banged out a focused beam from a multi-megawatt transmitter aimed right at the target star. The odds of reception could be considerably higher, assuming there’s anyone there, they’re actually listening and would recognize our efforts at communication as “intelligence.” Still, it’s a disquieting thought.

But the question of permission doesn’t seem to come into it. Could anyone have stopped METI even if we’d known about it? I don’t think anyone really regulates such activity except perhaps the host country in terms of their regulation of communications bands. (This was in Norway and they apparently didn’t complain about it.) In any event, it’s too late now. I doubt I’ll be around if an answer comes back in a quarter of a century, but you younger folks might want to stock up on welcome banners just in case.

Oh, and start looking for Sarah Connor right now. Her experience at fighting Terminators would almost have to come in handy.

SHARIA UK: British politician Jayda Fransen ARRESTED for offending Islam, flown to Belfast, FULL VIDEO OF SPEECH
By Pamela Geller - on November 19, 2017
    Uk

This is sharia in the West. Britain First deputy leader Jayda Fransen has been arrested over a speech she made in Belfast addressing the jihad threat and teachings calling for holy war. Whether you agree with Jayda Fransen is of no import. Her right to say it is everything. It is the foundation of a free society. Without it, a tyrant can wreak havoc unopposed, while his opponents are silenced. Putting up with being offended is essential in a pluralistic society in which people differ on basic truths. If a group will not bear being offended without resorting to violence, that group will rule unopposed while everyone else lives in fear, while other groups curtail their activities to appease the violent group. This results in the violent group being able to tyrannize the others.

Islamic law forbids criticism of Islam, Quran, Muhammad. If they cannot be criticized in the US, we are in effect accepting Islamic law as overriding the freedom of speech. This would establish Muslims as a protected class and prevent honest discussion of how Islamic jihadists use the texts and teachings of Islam to justify violence and supremacism. If speech that offends a group is outlawed, that group has absolute power, and a free society is destroyed. A group that cannot be criticized cannot be opposed. It can work its will no matter what it is, and no one will be able to say anything to stop it.

Here is the speech Ms. Fransen was arrested for. “London has fallen”:.....VIDEO

Sunday Schadenfreude: Another socialist monster thrown out
      By Monica Showalter

Zimbabwe’s hideous 93-year-old dictator, Robert Mugabe, was given until noon Monday by his former security chief to pack his bags or leave the Ceaucescu way.

If Mugabe refused to go, “We will bring back the crowds and they will do their business,” Mutsvangwa told reporters.

      Reuters continued:

[Emmerson] Mnangagwa, a former state security chief known as “The Crocodile,” is expected to head an interim post-Mugabe unity government that will focus on rebuilding ties with the outside world and stabilising an economy in freefall.

What a pathetic miserable end to one of the world’s most odious thugs in power. Hailed by the left as a new kind of socialist liberationist, he was nothing but a monster, not only to the white farmers he persecuted, but to every citizen in the country, blacks and whites alike.

Mugabe, the Reuters report noted, bragged he had a ‘degree in violence.’

He’s famous for bringing hyperinflation to a once-prosperous post-colonial African state and destroying property rights in the country, leaving it a smoking ruin. Zimbabweans of all colors fled the place, many of them escaping under fences to South Africa if not making their way to Europe and a few to the U.S. He was a rabid identity politician and racist, targeting white-owned farms for expropriation in the name of ‘social justice.’ In the process his country was left in rubble.

So what a fine thing that unlike Castro, his good socialist buddy, he didn’t live to die in his bed. He’s going out the Khadafy way if he doesn’t leave the premises asap.

What’s schadenfreude-fine is not only that the monster is meeting a bad end, Zimbabweans are dancing in the streets, sending a message that Mugabe’s socialist horror show, is finally over. The whole world is seeing it on Twitter. Who knew they hated the ogre so much? After all, they are dancing wildly even as the man who is replacing him doesn’t have a very savory past himself. That shows that Mugabe is so awful that Zimbabweans consider absolutely anyone to be an improvement. They look like the crowds that joyfully threw Nicolai Ceausescu of Romania out. Metro of London has some fine Getty images viewable here. The Zimbabwean has some good local pictures here.

The left of course, looks the worst in this fiasco. Not only have they coddled him and showered him with honors for being a liberationist who wrecked his country, they have been wrong about how strongly ordinary Zimbabweans hated being under his leftist boot. The United Nations in particular has been guilty in this regard. Here’s a lefty writing in the Guardian four days ago intoning that Zimbabweans wouldn’t be dancing in the streets if the socialist Mugabe were to be thrown out. That didn’t age well.

For the rest of us, it’s a great pleasure to mentally celebrate and savor the joy the Zimbabweans feel at being freed from one of the world’s most destructive dictators. Another socialist monster is gone.

  27. From the desk of Canadian Prime Minister Turdeau -

Canada: Trudeau government refers to returning jihadis as “foreign terrorist travelers”

NOV 19, 2017 1:14 PM BY ROBERT SPENCER

“Foreign terrorist travellers” will be given “reintegration support.”

That means that the Trudeau government will shower money upon them, in the mistaken assumption that poverty and lack of economic opportunity that cause terrorism. Then they will be shocked, shocked!, when some of these men return to jihad anyway.

In reality, these jihadis are enemy combatants. They joined an entity that is avowedly at war with Canada, and has called for jihad massacres on Canadian soil. They should not be allowed back in.

“PATHETIC: Trudeau Government Calls Jihadis ‘Returning Foreign Terrorist Travellers,'” Spencer Fernando, November 17, 2017 (thanks to Blazing Cat Fur):

…Here’s what Trudeau government spokesman said Dan Brien (obviously using PMO approved talking points), when asked about Canada’s policies on ISIS fighters coming back to the country:

“Returning foreign terrorist travellers and their families, specifically women and children, require the appropriate disengagement and reintegration support.”

While the “reintegration support,” is the most disturbing part, the fact that the government is trying to “rebrand” dangerous Jihadis as “returning foreign terrorist travellers” is absurd.

This is disgracefully manipulative wording by the Trudeau government. These people weren’t sightseeing in a place terrorism happened to occur. They were actively fighting on behalf of a brutal terrorist organization.

It unfortunately fits with a troubling pattern of the Trudeau government prioritizing political correctness above all else, and seeking to downplay what is a real threat to the Canadian people. After all, other countries are trying to eliminate Jihadis before they can return, while the Trudeau government seems most worried about sounding “nice.”…

Stunning evidence of the power of the MSM to kill news favorable to Trump
    By Thomas Lifson

The invaluable Salena Zito once again has talked to ordinary folks in a location that barely gets any attention from media swells, and delivers an insight that future historians will honor, even of the Pulitzer Prize committee continues to snub her. She has demonstrated that the mainstream media are able to suppress life-changing news that could rescue the beleagured economy of an entire state so thoroughly that ordinary folks in street are unaware of it.

Writing in the New York Post:

Last weekend in Beijing, as part of his 12-day trip to Asia, President Trump announced that the US and China had signed an $83.7 billion deal to create a number of petrochemical projects in West Virginia over the next 20 years.

If the agreement holds tight, it is an economic game changer for the state.

And yet, speaking to the locals here, you wouldn’t even know it had happened.

“I am surprised I heard nothing about it on the national news, nor in my local paper and newscasts,” said Jerald Stephens, 67, a West Virginia native and union rep, who has been a keen observer of local politics for as long as he can remember.

The BBC and CNN covered the news in their business sections, while The New York Times picked up a short story by The Associated Press on the deal. The stories’ headlines were muted; their placement low-key.

“One would have suspected that the prospect of an investment this large — nearly three times the total annual budget for the department of energy — would have been front-page news,” said Paul Sracic, political-science professor at nearby Youngstown State University.

That is an understatement. Bloomberg has covered it, of course, but that’s because it gets paid by decision-makers to keep them well informed (because investment decisions are affected). In additon, virtually everyone in West Virginia would be affected by the deal, and the news has been out for over two weeks. Yet they have been kept in ignorance because general news outlets they read have been totally silent.

Bruce Einhorn of Bloomberg described the project on Nov. 8:

West Virginia: the state signed an MOU with China Energy Investment Corp. The Chinese company plans to invest in West Virginian shale gas development and chemical manufacturing projects over two decades, according to the state’s Department of Commerce, which did not offer details. The size of the proposed investment is $83.7 billion, larger than the state’s gross domestic product last year of $73.4 billion.

Jim Poulson of Bloomberg added details the following day:

The memorandum of understanding marks the first step in a series of commitments the company expects to make in West Virginia. These include power generation, chemical manufacturing and underground storage of natural gas liquids derivatives.

However, the deal is not carved into stone, which should mean that the entire State of West Virginia is on tenterhooks.

Although the deal’s non-binding, it was welcomed in a state that’s borne the brunt of coal’s long-term decline. West Virginia Governor Jim Justice, a coal and real estate mogul elected to office last year, has lobbied the Trump administration to prop up the state’s coal-mining sector.

“Expanding Appalachia’s energy infrastructure, including developing a regional storage hub and market for natural gas liquids, will have a transformative effect on our economy, our security and our future,” U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito, a West Virginia Republican, said in the statement.

So, this is a deal that would transform economic life for some of the most economically depressed people in the country, and they have no idea at all that it is in process, needs their support, and could be derailed. And they have no clue!

As a candidate, Donald Trump promised to “make deals” that would benefit America. He is precisely delivering on this promise. In addition to the project in West Virginia, deals amounting to a quarter trillion dollars were announced in the wake of the visit to China.

      [media crickets]

In addition, the deal reveals that President Trump has gotten the Chinese to consider becoming dependent on America for important energy supplies. That makes them far less likely to be antagonistic toward us, and addresses the chronic huge balance of payemnts deficit we suffer with China, keeping two more promises: to keep us safe and to keep us from digging that trade deficit hole deper.

But this is news too helpful to Trump to be reported.

Scientists have warned there could be a big increase in numbers of devastating earthquakes around the world next year. They believe variations in the speed of Earth’s rotation could trigger intense seismic activity, particularly in heavily populated tropical regions.

Although such fluctuations in rotation are small – changing the length of the day by a millisecond – they could still be implicated in the release of vast amounts of underground energy, it is argued.

The link between Earth’s rotation and seismic activity was highlighted last month in a paper by Roger Bilham of the University of Colorado in Boulder and Rebecca Bendick of the University of Montana in Missoula presented at the annual meeting of the Geological Society of America.

“The correlation between Earth’s rotation and earthquake activity is strong and suggests there is going to be an increase in numbers of intense earthquakes next year,” Bilham told the Observer last week.

In their study, Bilham and Bendick looked at earthquakes of magnitude 7 and greater that had occurred since 1900. “Major earthquakes have been well recorded for more than a century and that gives us a good record to study,” said Bilham.

They found five periods when there had been significantly higher numbers of large earthquakes compared with other times. “In these periods, there were between 25 to 30 intense earthquakes a year,” said Bilham. “The rest of the time the average figure was around 15 major earthquakes a year.”

The researchers searched to find correlations between these periods of intense seismic activity and other factors and discovered that when Earth’s rotation decreased slightly it was followed by periods of increased numbers of intense earthquakes. “The rotation of the Earth does change slightly – by a millisecond a day sometimes – and that can be measured very accurately by atomic clocks,” said Bilham.

It is straightforward. The Earth is offering us a five-year heads-up on future earthquakes
Roger Bilham of the University of Colorado in Boulder
Bilham and Bendick found that there had been periods of around five years when Earth’s rotation slowed by such an amount several times over the past century and a half. Crucially, these periods were followed by periods when the numbers of intense earthquakes increased.

“It is straightforward,” said Bilham. “The Earth is offering us a five-year heads-up on future earthquakes.”

This link is particularly important because Earth’s rotation began one of its periodic slowdowns more than four years ago. “The inference is clear,” said Bilham. “Next year we should see a significant increase in numbers of severe earthquakes. We have had it easy this year. So far we have only had about six severe earthquakes. We could easily have 20 a year starting in 2018.”

Exactly why decreases in day length should be linked to earthquakes is unclear although scientists suspect that slight changes in the behaviour of Earth’s core could be causing both effects.

In addition, it is difficult to predict where these extra earthquakes will occur – although Bilham said they found that most of the intense earthquakes that responded to changes in day length seemed to occur near the equator. About one billion people live in the Earth’s tropical regions.

  36. Broadcast giant Charlie Rose was suspended from CBS, PBS and Bloomberg on Monday afternoon after eight women came forward with disturbing allegations that he exposed himself to them and groped their breasts, buttocks and genitals.

In extensive interviews with the Washington Post, the women recounted how Rose made unwanted sexual advances while they worked or hoped to work on his namesake PBS show, dating back to the late 1990s and spanning until as recently as 2011.

Ranging in age from 21 to 37, a number of the accusers spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of retaliation from the veteran TV host. The women's allegations share striking similarities, describing how Rose switched between anger and flattery as he made the predatory advances.

Rose, who also co-hosts "CBS This Morning" and contributes to "60 Minutes," apologized for his "inappropriate behavior" but insisted he was under the impression that the incidents were consensual.
