Julian Assange’s Internet ‘Intentionally Severed By A State Party,’ Wikileaks Says
Wikileaks founder Julian Assange’s internet link was severed by a state party, the organization claimed in a tweet early Monday morning. Wikileaks claims to have activated “appropriate contingency plans.”
The announcement came hours after Wikileaks published three cryptic tweets Sunday afternoon referencing Ecuador, US Secretary of State John Kerry and the United Kingdom’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Each tweet was accompanied by a string of jumbled numbers and letters.
Assange is currently residing in the Ecuadorian embassy in London, England, where he has remained since seeking political asylum in June 2012. (RELATED: Leaked Emails Show Clinton Campaign Struggling Over Gay Marriage Position)
Kerry is currently in London as well for meetings with British, French and German foreign ministers regarding peace brokering attempts in Syria.
Earlier this month, Assange claimed he was going to make a major announcement regarding Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton on the balcony of the embassy, but canceled due to “security concerns.”
Over the last week and a half, Wikileaks has steadily released thousands of emails from Clinton campaign manager John Podesta’s Gmail account.
Wikileaks previously released hacked emails from the Democratic National Committee that showed party officials colluding against Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders. (RELATED: Wikileaks Cancels Major Clinton Revelation Amid ‘Security Concerns’)
Critics of Wikileaks say the organization is acting as a front for Russian hackers, a charge Assange has denied. U.S. intelligence officials believe Russian hackers have been the source of the hacks.

Sheriff Clarke was just on Fox.
ReplyDeleteHe's great.
We don't have a Fourth Estate any longer, he says, but Big Media, as he called it, is the propaganda arm of the Democrat Party these days.
He affirms the FBI is now corrupt (at its top levels), the State Department is corrupted, the Justice Department is corrupted, the IRS is corrupted, and it's a hell of a sad time in our history.
We have become an Administrative State, no longer a Republic, says Sheriff Clarke.

ReplyDeleteRussia Is Building Fallout Shelters to Prepare for a Potential Nuclear Strike
MOSCOW — Managers of the Zenit Arena, a giant half-built stadium in St. Petersburg, received an official letter from the Ministry of Emergency Situations last week demanding that they immediately create shelter facilities for wartime. The stadium, under construction for the upcoming World Cup 2018, is located outside the city boundaries, the letter said, but in case of nuclear attack it is in the potential “zone of war destruction and radiation fallout.”
The last time Russians heard authorities talk like this about a potential mobilization for a nuclear strike was 20 years ago, and it all seemed highly improbable. Now, it appears, the Kremlin is not joking. Up to 40 million people participated in recent civil-defense exercises all across the country, learning about how to hide and where exactly to run to in case of a nuclear war.
But whether the motive behind this is self-defense, an implied threat to the West, a means to mobilize and control public opinion, or all of the above, is not entirely clear…
Moscow is building shelters, running exercises, and offering civil defense training for nuclear war. The US is offering yoga lessons. It’s hard to say which is the more insane.

ReplyDeleteMosul
Many have argued that the assault on Mosul is being rushed with some speculating Obama is pushing it for political reasons and for his legacy.
The arguments for delaying the assault center mostly on the assumption that while there are many groups chomping at the bit to be included in the attack on Mosul to protect their own interests; there seems to be no central planning and a coordinated decision on the day after. This is a problem that has haunted the US since 9/11, yet no one ever seems to learn the lesson.
Erdogan not backing down on Turkish role in Mosul
Iraqi Turkmen groups have escalated their calls for an independent province in the Tal Afar district west of Mosul, Wassim Bassem reports, in advance of the widely anticipated military campaign to remove Islamic State (IS) forces from the city.
The demand by some Turkmen groups coincides with similar calls by Christians and Yazidis for their own autonomous regions in Ninevah province.
Bassem reports, “All of these projects are based on religious or ethnic division, whether among Turkmens, Kurds, Arabs, Sunnis or Shiites. Some see these proposals as the solution to the sectarian, religious and ethnic diversity problems that have caused so much killing and displacement of minorities since the Islamic State (IS) took over the areas in June 2014. But others fear the proposals would further divide the country into regional fiefdoms, fending off peace and causing new conflicts for power and influence.”
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan put a sectarian and nationalist edge on this demand when he said Oct. 2, “After liberating Mosul from [IS], only Sunni Arabs, Turkmens and Sunni Kurds should stay there.” His position has led to a crisis in relations with Baghdad, and further aggravated Turkey’s ties with both the United States and Iran on the eve of what may be one of the defining battles of the campaign against IS.
Semih Idiz explains that the Turkish claim to Mosul has both nationalist and Islamist origins. “The reason why nationalist Turks are overly sensitive about Mosul is that the 'Turkish National Pact,' as defined by those prosecuting the war of liberation during 1919-1922, included Mosul within Turkey’s borders. They believe Turkey was cheated out of Mosul by Britain at the time and have cast the United States in Britain’s role today. Islamist Turks, on the other hand, consider Mosul to be a Sunni city and see a plot aimed at ridding it of its Sunni population in favor of Shiites. In his address to parliament recently, Erdogan referred to an effort to alter Mosul’s demographic composition and said Turkey would do its utmost to prevent this.”
Erdogan has formally rejected Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi’s warning for Turkish forces to stay out of the Mosul campaign. On Oct. 11, at a meeting of Islamic military leaders, the Turkish president took a condescending tone toward Abadi, saying that “the Turkish army has not lost so much prestige as to take its orders from you,” and that “you are not my interlocutor, you are not at my level, your quality is not at my level,” as Amberin Zaman reports....

UN ‘extremely concerned’ for 1.5 million civilians in Mosul
NITED NATIONS, United States — The UN deputy Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief voiced grave concern Sunday at risks faced by civilians as operations to retake the Iraqi city of Mosul began.
“I am extremely concerned for the safety of up to 1.5 million people living in Mosul who may be impacted by military operations to retake the city from ISIL,” Stephen O’Brien said, referring to the Islamic State jihadist group.
He warned that “families are at extreme risk of being caught in cross-fire or targeted by snipers.”
===============================================
Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has said only government forces will enter Mosul, a Sunni-majority city that IS seized with relative ease partly amid local resentment towards the Shiite-dominated security forces.
“Depending on the intensity and scope of the fighting, as many as one million people may be forced to flee their homes in a worst-case scenario,” O’Brien said in a UN statement.
Indeed, children and elderly are among those at greatest risk, he said.
“Tens of thousands of Iraqi girls, boys, women and men may be under siege or held as human shields. Thousands may be forcibly expelled or trapped between the fighting lines,” O’Brien added.

Russia and the West: Where did it all go wrong?
ReplyDeletehttp://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-37658286
Well, I guessed it was all our fault.
DeleteObviously we should have rejected the wishes of all those nations finally out from under the Soviet gun, and Soviet imperialism - now there was a real imperialism - who rushed to join the West as fast as their legs could carry them, dismissed them from joining NATO and the EU, and told them, you're on your own, folks.
Putin's behavior is, somehow or other, all our fault too.
Wasn't the West holding out the olive branch of considering Russia for eventual NATO membership at one time back in those days ? Seems I recall something about that.
DeleteYou obviously didn't read the whole article. Then again, knowing you, you probably did but you simply can't understand written English.
DeleteNowadays the Russians are really drinking themselves to death, the population is declining, and Russian women can't find a sober man to marry - hence the flourishing of mail order brides.
DeleteIt was because of the West that Russia invaded Georgia, the Crimea and Ukraine, too.
You are correct, Ash, I did not read the whole article. I gave up when it came to the part about expanding NATO east....
