ROMANIAN HACKER GUCCIFER - "I BREACHED CLINTON SERVER, IT WAS EASY"

Romanian hacker 'Guccifer' says it was 'easy' to infiltrate Hillary Clinton's personal emails from his small village

A Romanian hacker known as 'Guccifer,' who posted unofficial emails sent to then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on the Internet, has revealed that he 'easily' penetrated the Democratic frontrunner's emails and explained how.
In jailhouse interviews with Fox News from where he’s being held on cyber-crime charges in Alexandria, Virginia, Marcel Lehel Lazar, 44, told the media outlet that it was simple for him to figure out how to break into Clinton's personal email server, and he did it twice in 2013.

'For me, it was easy ... easy for me, for everybody,' he bragged to the news outlet.

Romanian hacker Marcel Lehel Lazar (above), 44, was extradited to the U.S. from Romania last month - he accused of cyber crimes - he himself claims he has hacked into Hillary Clinton’s email

He said he first went into journalist and Clinton confidant Sidney Blumenthal’s email account by doing extensive research on him and then correctly guessing his security question.

He said Blumenthal's emails were 'interesting' and he was talking about 'the Middle East and what they were doing there.' It's unclear who he was talking to.
Lazar said he then would see emails from political operatives, such as Clinton, and was able to trace their IP addresses and use ‘IP scanner' software to see if ports were open and email addresses 'alive.'

He claims he compromised Clinton’s emails 'like twice' and said the contents 'were not interesting.'

'I was not paying attention. For me, it was not like the Hillary Clinton server, it was like an email server she and others were using with political voting stuff,' he said.

Fox News said it could not independently confirm Lazar’s claim, but spoke to security experts who said it seems plausible.

'This sounds like the classic attack of the late 1990s. A smart individual who knows the tools and the technology and is looking for glaring weaknesses in Internet-connected devices,’ Bob Gourley, a former chief technology officer (CTO) for the Defense Intelligence Agency, said.

Lazar says he is self trained and did most of his hacking from his small village in Romania.

'Cybersecurity expert Morgan Wright told the outlet, 'The Blumenthal account gave [Lazar] a road map to get to the Clinton server. You get a foothold in one system. You get intelligence from that system, and then you start to move.'

Lazar's victims aren't named in his nine-count indictment, but they reportedly include Colin Powell, Sydney Blumenthal and a Bush family member

Hillary Clinton answers questions on her email server in April But Gourley also warned that ‘Unfortunately, in this community, a lot people make up stories and it’s hard to tell what's really true until you get into the forensics information and get hard facts.'

For her part, Clinton denies her personal email server had been compromised by foreign hackers, saying ‘No, not at all' when asked by MSNBC.

'There is absolutely no basis to believe the claims made by this criminal from his prison cell,' Clinton's national press secretary, Brian Fallon, told NBC News. 'In addition to the fact that he offers no proof to support his claims, his descriptions of Secretary Clinton's server are inaccurate. It is unfathomable that he would have gained access to her emails and not leaked them the way he did to his other victims.’

He added that her server shows no trace of foreign hacking.

Clinton’s private server contained nearly 2,200 emails containing information now deemed classified, and another 22 at the 'Top Secret' level.

The government has publicly posted about 45,000 pages, with roughly 7600 still left to be released at the end of February, according to NBC News.

Lazar is also accused of hacking into the personal accounts of Colin Powell and a Bush family member, two former U.S. presidents, a former U.S. Cabinet member, a former member of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff and a former presidential advisor.

He had pleaded not guilty to nine counts of hacking and his trial is set in the Eastern District of Virginia for September 12.

  1. Enthusiasm for Hillary Clinton’s campaign can be measured in microns. Sanders can beat Clinton. Trump, maybe.

A Sanders win would do little more than slow the insanity and maybe that is enough.

I hope Sanders stays the course.

  2. Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump says he’s in favor of Israel’s controversial construction of new settlements in the West Bank.

"I think Israel, they really have to keep going, they have to keep moving forward," Trump told the Daily Mail in a story published Tuesday. "I don't think there should be a pause.

"You have hundreds and even, I guess, thousands, of missiles being launched into Israel — who would put up with that? Who would stand for it?"

The Obama administration has argued that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's settlement policies damage the potential for a two-state solution.

Trump said he considers Netanyahu "a very good guy," saying he made a campaign ad for the Israeli leader in 2013 and predicting he'd have a good relationship with him as president

    1. Good for The Donald.

Been holding some fire till the time was right -

Now the last thing that I'm going to say is two years ago, I came here right after my book, "The Israeli Solution: A One-State Plan for Peace in the Middle East," came out. And the basic argument there is that the Palestinian state is antithetical to American interests, not to mention Israeli interests. And yet, and when you look at it as I did in my book, you recognize that it harms every major and national security interest of the United States in the Middle East. And yet, this policy, which, when it is actually scrutinized, shows itself to be rational on every level. It was one of the rare policies that has been receiving bipartisan support, wall to wall support from both sides of the aisle, enthusiastic support for the establishment of a Palestinian state. So two years on, I was asked, where do we stand now? Well, in a way, we're in a worse position because Obama intends to use the last nine months of his presidency in order to stick it to Israel again and again at the U.N. Security Council and in other areas. The BDS movement has become even more strong and empowered than it was two years ago. Jerusalem's Mayor Nir Barkat was just shouted down by a mob at San Francisco State University. Columbia University's Hillel's hosting these BDS organizations. These are just from the last week, and I've been traveling here from Israel, so I haven't even been paying attention. So every day, we see that university campuses have become less and less safe for Jews and for any discussion, any open discourse about the Middle East.

    2. But I also think that we've gotten to a point of reductio ad absurdum. That is, that Obama supports Mahmoud Abbas and the PLO, to a certain degree also Hamas through his support for the Muslim Brotherhood. And Abbas is now in the 11th year of his four-year term of office. His own Fatah party wants to overthrow him. The PA is on the verge of collapse. And so I think we're facing a situation where when the next president is inaugurated, he's going to be faced with the difficult question of what to do with these Palestinians because they have collapsed by the time that he has reached office. And I think for the first time, because of the discussion that we're having as a result of this sort of rebellion that we're seeing, particularly among GOP voters towards the foreign policy establishment, that I'm guardedly optimistic that when that discussion occurs, even if it's a Democrat in office, because of the cold shower that the Republicans have been forced to take over and over and over again since last summer, that we may see the beginning of a serious, rational discussion about whether or not America's interests are really served by the establishment of a Palestinian state. And I think that once that question, if that question finally becomes scrutinized, we're going to see that the proposition is roundly rejected as completely irrational and antithetical to national security interests of the United States of America. And so, perhaps I'm wrong. On this I wouldn't bet the farm, although I would bet something because the implications and the consequences of the implementation, particularly of the overthrow of Mubarak and of Gaddafi by the Americans, have been so disastrous for America and its allies in the Middle East that we may finally be at the precipice. And again, the rise of Ted Cruz and to a degree as well, Donald Trump, is an indication of that -- that the precipice has been passed, that we may see, finally, a serious revisitation of the madness that has taken over America's foreign policy elites. We will have a serious discussion about it, about what the proper role of foreign policy is for the United States; what is there to go out into the international arena in order to achieve. And I look forward to having that debate very, very much. So, thank you very much.

Is Bibi Netanyahu Really Bibi Netanyahu's Worst Friend?

By now, Angela Merkel is used to it. Whenever she meets with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the confidential content of their discussion appears in an Israeli newspaper a few days later.

But the story that appeared in Israel Hayom, a free, pro-Netanyahu newspaper on Feb. 16 surprised even the German chancellor. "Merkel: This Isn't the Time for Two States," was the headline. That was the chancellor's message to Netanyahu, the paper claimed, during the German-Israeli government consultations that had just taken place in Berlin.

Merkel's advisors were furious. The Israeli premier had apparently twisted her words to such a degree that it seemed as though she were supporting his policies. In fact, though, Merkel had repeatedly made it clear to Netanyahu that she believes the effects of Israeli settlement construction in the occupied territories are disastrous. The settlement policy, she believes, makes it unlikely that a viable Palestinian state can be established in accordance with plans aimed at a two-state solution. Any other approach, Merkel and Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier are convinced, would ultimately transform Israel into an apartheid regime. Netanyahu, however, has not shown himself to be the least bit impressed by such arguments.

The Israeli prime minister has always been able to depend on Berlin ultimately standing together with Israel and not joining the country's most vocal critics. But many, particularly in the Berlin Foreign Ministry, have begun wondering if Germany sent the wrong signals in the past. An example that is frequently mentioned is Chancellor Merkel's speech in the Knesset, Israel's parliament, in 2008 when she said that Israeli security is part of Germany's "raison d'état."

"The perception has been growing in the German government that Netanyahu is instrumentalizing our friendship," says Rolf Mützenich, deputy floor leader for the Social Democrats (SPD) in parliament. The SPD is Merkel's junior coalition partner and Foreign Minister Steinmeier is a leading member of the party. Mützenich says it would be a welcome change if the Foreign Ministry and the Chancellery were to rethink the relationship with Israel.

      'We Must Express This Concern'

"Israel's current policies are not contributing to the country remaining Jewish and democratic," says Norbert Röttgen, a member of Merkel's Christian Democratic Union and chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the Bundestag, Germany's parliament. "We must express this concern more clearly to Israel..."

It is not to create jobs.

If a corporation can create its product more efficiently and create a greater profit for its stockholders using robots than human workers that is the duty of the corporation.

If a corporation can create its product more efficiently and create a greater profit for its stockholders by manufacturing the product overseas that is the duty of the corporation.

The duty of a corporation is to create the greatest possible profit for its stockholders and not to create jobs for Americans, or anybody else.

      Trade is not the problem

      By Donald Wilkie

Yesterday, Sierra Rayne noted that Thomas L. (even a broken clock is right twice a day) Friedman "claims that "[w]e got rich as a country through trade." This is correct.

The marketplace creates wealth, and the marketplace consists entirely of trade. If you buy something, sell something, barter one good for another, do a favor in return for a favor, it is all trade.

Rayne shows a graph that appears to illustrate a logical inconsistency: over the last several decades, annual GDP growth has declined while trade as a percentage of GDP has increased.

Senior research fellow Patrick McLaughlin of the Mercatus Center produced a short video that admirably explains why this logical inconsistency exists: government regulations have exploded over the same period of time.

As the regulatory avalanche has proceeded apace, it has become harder and harder (read: more expensive) to do business in this country. NAFTA, Mr. (soon to be president) Trump, is not the problem.

As the learned possum philosopher Pogo so sagely noted, "We have met the enemy, and he is us."

The purpose of a corporation is to create a profit for the stockholders of the corporation.

It is not to create jobs.

You state the amoral, laissez-faire case for the corporate business model; yet, you ignore the social contract that runs through western thought and which is particularly prominent in our constitutional republic.

That contract as laid out in our constitution defines natural rights of individuals as well as their rights under the state. It also defines the responsibilities of everyone in the state. By choosing to live in the state, a person, in exchange for retaining certain natural rights accepts that he will have certain responsibilities, that certain liberties will be restricted, and that major decisions will be made by his elected representatives.

A corporation is a person. The Supreme Court has declared it so. It can vote (through its pocketbook) even though some of them aren't even 21 yet; it can marry (merge); and hell, the way things are going in this country, it will soon be able to visit any sex-nuetral bathroom it wants instead of just pissing on the rest of us. The corporation enjoys the road, transportation systems, utilities, and protection provided by this country just as any other person. Being a 'person' it must accept the same obligations as any other person in our society and if it is unwilling to pay forward it is still obligated to pay back.

You can't have it both ways, accepting the goodies but refusing to pay the price.

The state may not able to force the corporation to create jobs but it sure as hell can tax the hell out of them for the social cost of the lack of jobs. If the corporation decides to act in an anti-social or illegal way, it can be regulated and/or punished.

I love to see the lassez-faire capitalists whine and moan about how rough they have it when over the last 15 years 99% of the profits in this country have gone to the top 10%, 40-50% to the top 1%.

Your comments are ill-informed and simplistic similar to that Canadian whine piece Ash put up yesterday.
