"Democracy Now!" airs weekdays at 9 a.m. PT on KCET.
Last month was the hottest September worldwide, and 2015 is now virtually guaranteed to be the hottest year in recorded history. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says the first nine months of this year have been the hottest such period ever recorded. Driven by warmer temperatures, the strongest El Niño on record is fueling extreme weather, from typhoons in the Philippines to historic summer rains and a looming winter drought in Hawaii. This all comes as negotiators prepare for the U.N. climate summit in Paris November 30. Democracy Now! will report live from the summit for the full two weeks.
Let the science continue....

Quirk is correct, we don't know enough yet to make intelligent statements.
"There is a lot of money in global warming."
.
ReplyDeleteMy thinking on global warming has evolved a lttle.
.
So has mine. I used to be a believer, now I don't know.
ReplyDeleteAll those fake temperature readings from around the world.....
Now I don't know what or whom to believe.
I do know the hottest temp ever recorded out this way was over 80 years ago.
DeleteNothing has touched it since, so locally I guess we can say we've been in a period of North Idaho cooling.
Right now we are in something of a drought.
A little warming if it came with some wet would do wonders for Canadian wheat farming.
DeleteFrom what I've read this year it hasn't been much of a hurricane season, regardless of what's going on to Mexico right now.
I'll sit back and wait for better science rather than believe immediately my lying eyes.
"Tattoo" Trudeau is "against global warming".
DeleteHe is going into the ring to "fight global warming".
He is wonderful. Young, punky rock, tattooed, with it all......your basic upscale liberal asshole.
Thinking of "Tattoo Boy" I am about to come out in favor of the Canadian wheat farmers and will begin to fight for global warming.
I am coming out in favor of government car benefit credits so we can all drive polluting global warming Limos......and let's face it, Quirk needs a new set of wheels.....
My Niece too. She needs a set of wheels. She is still biking it. I offered to get her a car in Germany but she said no no nooooooo car Uncle Bob. One day she called on her bike on her way home.....she stopped into a small German grocery......I heard the whole thing.....do you have English......she bought spaghetti......did you buy any spaghetti sauce too I asked....no no noooooooooooo spaghetti sauce toooooooooooooo expensive !
She lives in a one room flat.
Bikes to work.
Eats spaghetti without sauce.
Is published in the Journal Nature.
No polluting limo for her....
Perhaps the answer to all this is to put people that ride in Limos up to execution walls.......

Regardless of your feelings about "global warming," no one can argue that fossil fuels will last Forever.
ReplyDeleteSo, the answer is pretty simple.
The US wind energy industry installed over 1,600 MW in the third quarter, and nearly 3,600 MW for the whole year, but still faces policy uncertainty.
The American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) published its US Wind Industry Third Quarter 2015 Market Report on Thursday, highlighting the more than 1,600 MW of new wind energy capacity that has been installed in the country during the third quarter, bringing the year’s full cumulative new capacity up to nearly 3,600 MW. However, despite the billions worth of investment the industry is bringing in, and the number of well-paying jobs the industry supports, the US wind energy sector is still facing policy uncertainty in the face of a possible cessation of the Investment and Production Tax Credits.
“We are on the cusp of greatness,” said Tom Kiernan, CEO of AWEA. “There are over $20 billion worth of wind farms under construction right now, creating well-paying jobs and spurring economic development in rural communities across the country. This growth is in jeopardy however, as continued policy uncertainty could throw the wind industry off yet another economic cliff.”
The US installed a total of 848 turbines in the second quarter, across 13 projects in 7 different states, with Texas accounting for the most capacity installed so far this year, 771 MW, followed by Oklahoma with 398 MW, Kansas with 201 MW, and Illinois with 175 MW. For the year, the US has installed 1,862 turbines totaling 3,596 MW, more than double the 1,254 MW installed during the first three quarters of . . . .

I'm all for alternative energy. I have nothing against any of it at all.
ReplyDeleteI like nuclear. We can always rely on nuclear if things get tough. Just don't build them on a fault line or right on the coast.
My ancestors used to burn coal for heat here. So did the University of Idaho. The power comes from the dams now. That was an 'alternative energy' source in those days.....the air is much cleaner......though the steelhead and salmon runs are suffering.....I am for taking out the dams and replacing with nuclear energy plants at three or four spots along the rivers.....
DeleteThis was a big issue here a few years ago.....taking out the dams.......I just noticed in the local paper the 'ban the dam' folk are taking another swing at it....they came close to winning the argument before....they want to pull out the dams and let the rivers run free.....they have not as far as I know gone the next logical step and advocated nuclear......you have to understand many of these folks are trendy, tattooed, very liberal pot smoking young folk in all things.....and haven't gotten to the point yet of wondering how the lights will light if the dams are out and there is no electricity...or perhaps they don't care.....they have their agenda and gurus and literary gurus.....one of which is of course Ed Abby, now deceased......
Renewable Energy Cuts Wholesale Cost Of Energy
ReplyDeleteOctober 20th, 2015 by Joshua S Hill
A new report has concluded that renewable energy is cutting the wholesale price of energy as well as decreasing the impact of subsidies on bill payers.
Specifically, wind and solar generators reduced the wholesale cost of electricity by £1.55 billion in the UK in 2014. In net terms, the cost of supporting wind and solar generation technology in 2014 was only £1.12 billion — 58% less than the cost reflected in the country’s Levy Control Framework.
These are the primary conclusions from a new report published by British energy company Good Energy, and with the backing of the University of Sheffield.
“This analysis puts the bill payer at the center of the debate around renewable energy subsidies,” said Good Energy Chief Executive Juliet Davenport, OBE. “Let’s give them the full picture and not just half of it. What is not taken into account is the fact that renewable energy, such as wind and solar, has actually been bringing the cost of energy down for consumers. The bill payer money invested into supporting renewables yields significant benefits, let’s be very clear about that.”
The report comes at the same time as the UK Government is scaling back numerous renewable energy support schemes, including the Feed-in Tariff and Renewables Obligations schemes — all under the onus of keeping taxpayers energy bills lower.
The report aims to investigate a phenomenon known as the Merit Order Effect, whereby government support mechanisms increase tax payers utility bills in the short term, while renewables act to reduce them by driving down wholesale electricity prices. Specifically, according to the report, the Merit Order Effect will actually increase the more renewable energy is deployed, with the authors of the report noting that “the current level of savings suggest that, if renewable support is viewed in net terms, the projected future overspend of the Levy Control Framework may not be a reality.”
Overspend of the Levy Control Framework has been one of the primary driving factors given by the UK Government for slashing renewable energy subsidies. The Framework was so successful that it reached its original total much earlier than anticipated, and overspend was anticipated. However, according to this new report, when viewed in terms of net terms, the overall savings by the end of the original Levy Control Framework period may be greater than the suspected overspend.
The report was also backed by researchers from . . . . . . .

“There are other people out there that are very qualified and we’ve had enough Bushes.”
“He will get all our enemies and half of our friends.”
Barbara Bush responding to Matt Lauer on the TODAY Show on April 23, 2013 when asked if Jeb Bush should run for president.
It has been two and a half years since former First Lady Barbara Bush shocked the political world with her honest assessment of why Jeb Bush should not run for president in 2016. (But under pressure from Jeb in February of this year she changed her mind.)
However, her initial blunt statements brilliantly predicted the reasons why Jeb! (last name withheld) is now dropping in the polls and running out of cash.
Moreover, if on March 15, 2016, Jeb does not win the Florida primary in his all-important home state, it is likely that he will be pressured to withdraw from the GOP nomination race. Currently polls show Jeb in third place behind Donald Trump and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) 92%.
Poor Jeb, if only he had listened to his mother back in 2013. If so, he would have spared himself and his family the embarrassment of a bumbling campaign with its long slow fade and decreasing expectations that he will win the 2016 Republican presidential nomination.
None of this is surprising since from the beginning of Jeb’s presidential run only the most optimistic blinder-wearing Bush loyalists believed that Republican primary voters would welcome a third Bush presidency..................

There's not really much of a thing wrong with Jeb!.....it's just Bush Fatigue.
While over on the Democratic side the rallying cry is something about I've got female genitals.....
