COLLECTIVE MADNESS

“Soft despotism is a term coined by Alexis de Tocqueville describing the state into which a country overrun by "a network of small complicated rules" might degrade. Soft despotism is different from despotism (also called 'hard despotism') in the sense that it is not obvious to the people."

There should be no chance of the Republicans taking The White House in 2016

Underlining a adjust across the nation, nearly 9 out of ten adults now say they have well being insurance, according to an substantial survey released Monday.
As recently as 2013, slightly much more than 8 out of 10 had coverage.
No matter if the new number from the Gallup-Healthways Well-Getting Index turns out to be a higher-water mark for President Barack Obama's overall health care law, or a milestone on the path toward his target of having practically all U.S. residents covered, remains to be observed.
The law's future is still up in the air, and will turn on things ranging from an upcoming Supreme Court selection on consumer subsidies to actions by Republican leaders in states opposed to Medicaid expansion.
The Gallup-Healthways survey identified that the share of adults who lack insurance dropped to 11.9 percent for the 1st three months of this year, the lowest level considering that that survey started its tracking in 2008. The most up-to-date update overlaps with the period when the well being law's second sign-up season was winding down.
Coverage gains from 2014-2015 translate to about 3.six million fewer adults uninsured due to the fact the fall, just before open enrollment got under way, according to Gallup.
"The Very affordable Care Act had three key objectives: enhance coverage, slow the rate of enhance in fees, and increase overall health," stated Dan Witters, study director for the poll. "The very first 1 is clearly a win. Coverage is escalating there is no query about it."
On balance, an estimated 14.75 million adults have gained coverage since the fall of 2013, when the law's initially open enrollment season was about to commence, according to Gallup.
"A massive outstanding question is what will occur more than the next couple of years," stated Larry Levitt, a overall health insurance specialist with the nonpartisan Kaiser Household Foundation. "To meet expectations, enrollment has to continue to develop and push the quantity of uninsured down."
The Gallup-Healthways survey is closely followed due to the fact it combines the depth of government-sponsored study with the timeliness of media polls. Pollsters interview 500 persons a day, nearly every day of the year. 1 of the inquiries they ask is whether or not persons have overall health insurance.
The well being care law presents subsidized private insurance coverage for persons who never have access to job-primarily based coverage, combined with an expansion of Medicaid aimed at low-earnings adults in states that accept it. Significant states like Florida and Texas are amongst these refusing to expand Medicaid.
The law demands almost all Americans to have coverage, either via an employer, a government program, or by getting their own plan. Those remaining uninsured threat fines. It also delivers subsidies to assist low- to moderate-revenue people today invest in their own insurance.
Comparing the most current sign-up period with the first open enrollment season, the survey identified that the uninsured price declined at a slightly slower pace this time around. In the first three months of this year, the uninsured rate fell by 1 percentage point. More than the very same period last year there was a 1.5 percentage-point decline.
From government officials to nearby volunteers, numerous persons involved with the well being care law expected some sort of second-year slowdown. Open enrollment season was shorter, and these who had remained uninsured had been noticed as more skeptical about the worth of coverage.
The survey also found:
—Hispanics saw the greatest coverage gains of any ethnic or racial group. The uninsured price dropped eight.three points among Latinos due to the fact the end of 2013. Even so, Hispanics are nonetheless extra probably to be uninsured. "At a time when Republicans are incredibly keenly attempting to court the Hispanic vote, a large chunk of Hispanics are gaining insurance by means of the Reasonably priced Care Act," Witters stated.
—Recent gains in coverage have benefited persons up and down the earnings ladder. But the most notable improvement has been among these making much less than $36,000 a year, a group that traditionally struggled to get and maintain wellness insurance coverage. Their uninsured price dropped 8.7 points because the finish of 2013.
—Although the economic recovery is most likely to be contributing to coverage gains, the uninsured price is now drastically decrease than it was in early 2008, ahead of the recession. That suggests that the gains in coverage are due to additional than an improving economy.
Five years after its passage, the most significant query now for Obama's well being care law is a Supreme Court challenge.
Opponents of the law argue that its literal language only enables the government to subsidize premiums in states that set up their own on the web insurance markets. Most have not completed so, defaulting to the federal HealthCare.gov.
Supporters say that when some provisions may possibly be confusing when read in isolation, the intent of Congress was to support shoppers in each and every state pay their premiums. A selection in that case is anticipated by late June.
The survey outcomes were based on landline and cellphone interviews performed from Jan. 2 to March 31 with a random sample of 43,575 adults ages 18 and older. For results primarily based on the total sample, the margin of sampling error is plus or minus 1 percentage point.

  2. It was bemusing to go back and look at how the republicans used the exact same language attacking Social Security as they're using attacking the Affordable Care Act.

Pew has the republicans down 48 - 39 to the Dems in favorability. Barring a recession, it's hard to see how the pubbies win the White House in 2016.

    1. Actually, it was more a "party identification" question than a favorability question.

Going back 30 or 40 years, they've asked adults if they are:

      Dem/lean Dem

      or

      Republican/lean Republican

If the numbers are anywhere close to where they are now, going into the election, Hillary wins.

    1. Unfortunately I don't think you succeeded in building a decent argument equating Iran to Nazi Germany. While I am no expert, nor supporter of the Iranian Mullahs nor am I an expert on Nazism let me deconstruct your list:

      1) A Supreme Leader
      - The Iranian form of Islam does have a 'top down' method of 'revealing' religious truths much like the Catholics with the Pope I fail to see how this is at all equivalent to Hitler seizing power and proselytizing Aryan supremacy.
      2) An insane ideology of the world domination sort
While I have little love for the Islam practiced by the Iranians I fail to see any insanity in it and there is little evidence that they seek expansion or empire let alone world domination. Granted they do seek influence in the region but they have not invaded any countries for resources or any other reason unlike Nazi Germany.
      3) Repression of minorities, gays etc
Yeah, the Iranians aren't very good on that count, nor are any number of other countries, and they are better than some. They have not, unlike the Nazi, performed medical experiments on minorities nor put them in internment camps, nor have they tried to exterminate them on an industrial scale as the Nazis did.
      4) Total state control
Really? I think you need expand on this. Simply saying it doesn't make it true for either the Nazis or the Iranians. The Nazis were fascists and there was much state control. I'll grant the Iranians are repressive but it doesn't appear to be a fascist state.
      5) A particular hatred of those of Jewish background or outlook
The Nazis hatred of Jews is well documented. The Iranians do not appear to be at all similar to what the Nazis were like (i.e. mass extermination). Are there not some thriving Jewish communities in Iran today? Yes, Iran has spoken, and acted against Israel, but that is a far cry from what the Nazis did to Jews.
      6) Aggression
See above regarding aggressive military expansion and aggression. Iran has used proxies (Hezbollah for example) to expand their influence in the region but they have not invaded and occupied countries like the Nazis did. It isn't even close.
      7) A striking and odd difference is the Nazis treated their own women - no one else's - but their own women better than the Iranians do theirs. I can't recall any blue eyed blond Aryan women being stoned to death by the Nazis for 'adultery'.
-True they didn't kill Aryan women but they sure has hell killed a lot of Jewish women (and other minorities).
      8) An elite military cadre - the SS - the al Quds folk
And the USA has an elite military cadre as well. The Revolutionary Guard do have a lot of influence and ownership of business in Iran. I am not aware of the SS having similar business interests.
      9) Control of the press and free speech and books
Yeah, I'll give you that one.
      10) Torture
Heck, you could equate the USA to Nazis on that one as well. You have been a big proponent for the use of torture yourself. I guess you are similar to a Nazi too!
      11) The salute
I am unaware of an Iranian "salute". Could you link to some examples please?
      12) The shouting of slogans
      ohhhhkayyyy
      13) The ability to hoodwink nitwits like you

The child, named as Zaynab Daghastani, was reportedly killed on Tuesday outside her home in Yarmouk, which was overrun by Isis at the end of last month.

Militants entered an apartment building and apprehended the girl, Al Masdar News reported, and she was later shot dead by a sniper outside her home.

  9. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said he asked U.N. chief Ban Ki-moon last month to seek Israeli permission to bring Palestinians caught in Syria's civil war to their homeland. Last week, he said that Israel agreed to allow 150,000 Palestinians refugees from Syrian into the West Bank and Gaza as long as they relinquished the right of return to what is now Israel. Abbas said he refused.
AP's Mohammed Daraghmeh reported on Jan. 10, 2013:

Abbas said Ban was told Israel "agreed to the return of those refugees to Gaza and the West Bank, but on condition that each refugee ... sign a statement that he doesn't have the right of return (to Israel)."
"So we rejected that and said it's better they die in Syria than give up their right of return," Abbas told the group. Some of his comments were published Thursday by the Palestinian news website Sama.

So rather than go to Palestine and give up the right to resettle in ISRAEL, they should die, according to the sole representative of the Palestinian people.

    1. The "Right of Return" is a sticky point for both the Israelis and the Palestinians.

I think that is a particularly nasty offer from the Israelis - they are asking the Palestinians to give up their Right of Return, which they have, without a fully negotiated deal on a Palestinian State. It is a form of getting something for the Israelis piecemeal, 'by the back-door' through extortion (letting them die in Syrian refugee camps as their other option).

  15. Yarmouk Camp (Arabic: مخيم اليرموك‎) is a 2.11-square-kilometre (0.81 sq mi) district of the city of Damascus, populated by Palestinians, with hospitals and schools. It is located 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) from the center of Damascus and inside the municipal boundaries but when established in 1957, it was outside the surrounding city. Yarmouk is an "unofficial" refugee camp; it was home to the largest Palestinian refugee community in Syria. As of June 2002, there were 112,550 registered refugees living in Yarmouk.[1]

During the Syrian Civil War, Yarmouk camp became the scene of intense fighting in 2012 between the Free Syrian Army and the PFLP-GC supported by Syrian Army government forces. The camp then was consequently taken over by various factions and was deprived of supplies, resulting in hunger,[2] diseases and a high death rate, which caused many to leave. By the end of 2014, the camp population had gone down to just 20,000 residents.

Assad starved the palestinians, over 200 died of starvation....

    Then ISIS invaded...

But wait... What is this we hear?

42% of Muslims in Canada think Islam and West “irreconcilable”

April 13, 2015 7:30 pm By Robert Spencer

Then why are they in Canada? To emigrate in the cause of Allah, as Muhammad did from Mecca to Medina, in order to bring Islam to a new land. They came to Canada to bring Sharia there.

“42% of Canadian Muslims Admit Islam and West ‘Irreconcilable,'”by Dalit Halevy and Ari Yashar, Arutz Sheva, April 13, 2015 (thanks to The Religion of Peace):

Two polls that received very little fanfare were released late last month, and found that the majority of Christian and Jewish Canadians think Islam is “irreconcilable” with the West – it also found 42% of Canadian Muslims agree with that assessment.

The polls, conducted by Leger Marketing, were published in the Vancouver Sun and found 63% of Protestants, 62% of Jews and 60% of Catholics felt Islam cannot coexist with Western culture.

That assessment was shared by 46% of non-religious Canadians, and in a large admission, by 42% of Muslims who felt their religion cannot be reconciled with the country they live in.

A full 2,000 participants were questioned in the poll, and of them 500 were born outside Canada. The polling took place in 2013 and 2014.

“It’s quite disconcerting that our poll results consistently show about 60% of Canadians see the West and Islamic society as ‘irreconcilable.’ It puts you up against a dead end,” Jack Jedwab, vice-president of the Association for Canadian Studies that commissioned the polls, told the paper.

Jedwab admitted the threat perceived from Islam “is a huge blow to interfaith dialogue.”…
