COLLECTIVE MADNESS

“Soft despotism is a term coined by Alexis de Tocqueville describing the state into which a country overrun by "a network of small complicated rules" might degrade. Soft despotism is different from despotism (also called 'hard despotism') in the sense that it is not obvious to the people."

US mid-terms 2014: Where does all the money come from?

30 October 2014 Last updated at 00:16 GMT
The 2014 US mid-term election is projected to be the most expensive ever with a cost of around $3.7 billion (£2.3bn).
Most of the money comes from the candidates themselves, but a significant portion comes from outside groups - some of which don't have to disclose their donors' identities.
In the final days of the campaign season tens of millions of dollars have been spent - especially in key races like those for Senate in North Carolina and Kentucky.
So where exactly does this money come from and what is it paying for? The BBC takes a look and breaks down the numbers.
Produced by the BBC's David Botti

  7. MEXICO CITY (AP) - Mexico's most-wanted couple, accused of running their town as a drug fiefdom and ordering an attack that killed six and left 43 college students missing, were caught Tuesday in a rough-and-tumble neighborhood of Mexico City where they were hiding.

Federal police seized Jose Luis Abarca and his wife, Maria de los Angeles Pineda, in a raid before dawn in Iztapalapa, a working-class neighborhood of the capital. It was a far fall from their reign of wealth and power as the mayor and first lady of Iguala, a town in southern Guerrero state where the students from a teachers' college went missing Sept. 26, allegedly at the hands of police and a drug cartel.

Even as they were hauled off to the Attorney General's organized crime unit to give their statements, the capture did nothing to answer the biggest mystery: Where are the students? Their disappearance, and the failure to make progress in the case, has ignited protests across the country and broadsided President Enrique Pena Nieto's efforts to paint violence in Mexico as a thing of the past.

"News like this just makes you angrier," said Mario Cesar Gonzalez, whose son, Cesar Manuel Gonzalez, is among the missing students. "I wish they would put the same intelligence services and effort into finding the students. The ineptitude is staggering."

Authorities have uncovered mass graves and the remains of 38 people, but none has been identified as the missing students. Besides Tuesday's arrests, at least 56 other people have been taken into custody, and the Iguala police chief is also being sought.

Some hoped the couple's detention would provide new leads.

"This was the missing piece. This arrest will help us find our kids," Felipe de la Cruz, the father of one of the missing students, told Milenio television. "It was the government who took our kids."

It suggests a nebulous dim puff of stardust lost in the blaze of the Milky way. properly, the Jew ought hardly to be heard of, but he is heard of, has always been heard of. He is as prominent on the planet as any other people, and his commercial importance is extravagantly out of proportion to the smallness of his bulk. His contributions to the world’s list of great names in literature, science, art, music, finance, medicine, and abstruse learning are also away out of proportion to the weakness of his numbers. He has made a marvelous fight in this world, in all the ages; and had done it with his hands tied behind him. He could be vain of himself, and be excused for it.

The Egyptian, the Babylonian, and the Persian rose, filled the planet with sound and splendor, then faded to dream-stuff and passed away; the Greek and the Roman followed; and made a vast noise, and they are gone; other people have sprung up and held their torch high for a time, but it burned out, and they sit in twilight now, or have vanished. The Jew saw them all, beat them all, and is now what he always was, exhibiting no decadence, no infirmities of age, no weakening of his parts, no slowing of his energies, no dulling of his alert and aggressive mind. All things are mortal but the Jew; all other forces pass, but he remains. What is the secret of his immortality?”

Social media war? I concede that Israel is losing that war....
However 50% of Hamas's rockets are used or destroyed.
I don't know the exact number, but I bet a good number of tunnels are destroyed.
And I don't know the exact number but I bet a huge number MORE of Hamas fighters are dead than Israeli fighters.
And of course, Hamas and Iran spent a very nice billion or two investing in both those tunnels and missiles and to what avail?
After 1,800 terrorists fired rockets at the CIVILIANS (both arab and jews) of Israel Hamas can claim they KILLED two. Now of course having rockets rain down hundreds a day on all parts of Israel is a war crime but who cares? Hamas is the darling of the Jew hating/Israel denying crowd...

I the end, Hamas and it's supporters will claim victory.. No matter reality...
If there is one Hamas member still alive and spitting? Israel lost...

Fox News calls Kentucky for McConnell
    By Thomas Lifson

The first batch of election results has come in, and the most significant close race race is Kentucky. Based on modeling of past voting trends, Fox News has called Mitch McConnell victor in Kentucky. Democrats poured tremendous amounts of money into the effort to Daschle the GOP Minority Leader, and the GOP responded in kind, pushing the total spending to one hundred million dollars in a relatively small stat with relatively inexpensive media markets.

Georgia is too close to call, and may well end up in a runoff election.

.>>>>>>The big surprise is that Ed Gillespie, GOP challenger to Mark Warner in Virginia, is also in a race too close to call.<<<<<<

Lindsey Graham and Tim Scott are both expected to handily win their Senate races, making Scott the first African American Senator elected in the South since Reconstruction.

    5. Mark Warner, Ed Gillespie in tight U.S. Senate race in Virginia

Sen. Mark R. Warner studies the ballot as he votes on Tuesday in Alexandria. (Bill O'Leary/The Washington Post)
By Laura Vozzella, Jenna Portnoy and Michael Laris November 4 at 10:43 PM

Election officials in Virginia were preparing for a possible recount as U.S. Sen. Mark R. Warner was locked in a surprisingly tight race with Republican strategist and challenger Ed Gillespie.

With 99 percent of precincts counted, Warner was leading Gillespie by about 3,400 votes.

Brian W. Schoeneman, Fairfax County Electoral Board secretary, said county officials are readying for a potential recount.

“It’s getting tight,” Schoeneman said. “We’re in recount territory.”

He said that the election results, stored on flash drives, statements from voting machines, as well as provisional ballots are being delivered from each precinct to the county government building, where they will be kept in a sealed room overnight.
      Local election results

As an extra precaution against tampering, armed guards will stand watch outside the room throughout the night, he said.

The actual ballots are being taken to the court house, where they will be sealed in a vault, he said.

In Virginia, the trailing candidate can request a recount if the difference between the two candidates is one percent or less of the total votes cast. In this case that would translate to more than 20,000 votes.

Gillespie’s unrelenting attack on Warner’s voting record in support of Obama proved at least somewhat effective against Warner, who has been Virginia’s most popular politician for more than a decade. Gillespie’s chief line of attack was that Warner had voted with the president 97 percent of the time, most notably for the Affordable Care Act.

Warner has long billed himself as a business-friendly moderate. He won his first race for Senate in a landslide in 2008. But Gillespie, his underdog opponent, took him on in a year when President Obama’s low approval ratings have been a drag on Democrats nationally.

The former Republican National Committee chairman claimed at a rally Tuesday that momentum was on his side — taking note of narrowing polls and the energy of a volunteer squad he dubbed his “G-Force.”

Gillespie supporters were buzzing with hopeful excitement at his victory party as the first returns showed the Republican up. At a ballroom at an Embassy Suites hotel in Springfield, they sipped wine and kept their fingers crossed.

    Alon Ben-Meir

As prime minister, Netanyahu has consistently invoked his solemn duty to protect Israel's national security. Ironically, he has become the single most reckless individual who is imperiling the very security of the state. One need not look far and wide to discern Netanyahu's disingenuousness and misguided policies that have only undermined Israel's future security.

He uses his political skills to deceive and mislead in order to "protect himself from political defeat" while disregarding what is best for the future of the state. He surrounds himself with cronies blinded by their skewed ideological zeal with no morals or scruples to support his sinister political agenda.

To be sure, Israel under Netanyahu's stewardship is globally on the defensive, isolated, threatened from within and without, loathed and criticized by friends and foes alike, and with no prospect to achieve peace, which jeopardizes not only Israel's security but its very existence.

Kurds help ISIS with terrain, language in battle for Kobani

BEIRUT – Ethnic Kurds are helping members of the Islamic State group in the battle for the key Syrian Kurdish town of Kobani, sharing their knowledge of the local terrain and language with the extremists, according to Iraqi and Kurdish officials.

It is not clear how many Kurds are aiding the estimated 3,000 Islamic State militants in the Kobani area -- and fighting against their own Kurdish brethren -- but activists say they are playing a major role in the 7-week-old conflict near the Turkish border.

A top military commander for the extremists in the town is an Iraqi Kurd, known by the nom de guerre of Abu Khattab al-Kurdi, helping them in the battle against fellow Kurds.

Officials with the main Syrian Kurdish force known as the People's Protection Units, or YPG, say they became aware of the Kurds among the mostly Sunni Muslim extremists early in the fighting.
