COLLECTIVE MADNESS
“Soft despotism is a term coined by Alexis de Tocqueville describing the state into which a country overrun by "a network of small complicated rules" might degrade. Soft despotism is different from despotism (also called 'hard despotism') in the sense that it is not obvious to the people."

ReplyDeleteMasterful. No contest. Obama was outclassed. Romney stripped the bark off him.
ReplyDeleteKing Kool, Schooled by a white, mormon nerd..
ReplyDeletehow delicious
King Kool, Waterloo.
ReplyDeleteRomney surprised many with a better-than-expected presidential debate performance. CNN surveyed 430 adult Americans who watched the debate and are registered to vote, 67 percent of them thought Romney won the debate, while 25 percent said Obama won. The poll has a sampling error of plus or minus 4.5 percentage points.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it was an ass-kicking. The salesman tore the prof a new one.
ReplyDeleteAnd, it could have won him the election. It certainly made it a hell of a lot closer.
I wonder what happened to those folks with the voice stress analyzer? Romney probably broke it. :)
It'll probably turn out that they were Republicans, and, somehow, managed to lose the tape. :)
DeleteOn this day in 1951, Bobby Thomson slammed the “shot heard ‘round the world.” Thomson hit a three-run homerun at the Polo Grounds in the bottom of the ninth inning, a game-winning hit that sent the New York Giants to the World Series.

ReplyDeleteBUT, you Still have to win the Senate.
ReplyDeleteDamn, wouldn't you know it. :)
ReplyDeleteThe conservative-leaning group says they hope to release the results from Voice Analysis Technology within three hours of the debate

I bet we don't ever hear any more about this.
Bill Wilson, president of Americans for Limited Government called the use of the technology “a break-through for the American people. For the first time, within a few hours of a political debate, the American people will know if the candidates are telling the truth, and better be able to judge what promises are real, and which ones are nothing more than political pandering.”
DeleteThe company behind the verbal truth teller is Voice Analysis Technology, and they have been hired in many high profile criminal cases including the search for the killer of Natalie Holloway, the teenager who was killed while on a student trip in Aruba. Recently, the company showed that one of former Republican presidential contender Herman Cain’s primary accusers was not being truthful when making her charges.
The U.S. Department of Defense, Bureau of Prisons, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and more than sixty other law enforcement agencies across the U.S. all have contracted with Voice Analysis Technology to help them successfully interrogate suspects.
Think we should wait up? :)
Hmmm, it's been well over 3 hours, now. Maybe the dog ate the tape. :)
DeleteNah, it was so devastating for Romney that they didn't have the heart to release it on the poor little Rich Guy.
Delete3 1/2 hrs. Waiting, . . . . waiting, . . . . .
Delete:)
Yeah, 's gonna be a long night.
4 Hrs. I guess they decided to "re-check" the data, huh? :)
DeleteGood night all. Enjoy the moment (the bill will arrive shortly.)

DeleteLying liars lie.
Politicians are all liars.
Therefore, all politicians lie.

Jeeze, it's Doug and Rufus (and everyone else both left and right) switch night:
ReplyDeleteI LISTENED to the part covered by you tube up to part 5 from a recording I made from KRLA, but I screwed up and it cut off just after the u tube part 5 began:
I didn't hear the wipeout everybody is screaming about (not that I believe 90 percent of what BHO says, but still...)
He didn't sound asleep, bored, disengaged etc as everyone is saying to my ears.
Then I went to you tube to finish it off, looking at a bit of several of the parts I had already listened to.
Romney looked as great as he could possibly look, optimistic, sincere, comfortably smiling etc...
...but BHO looked like always to me, not the disengaged loser everyone's proclaiming he was, although for some reason the youtube showed Romney's face a lot more than Obama, who was viewed from a different angle so I didn't see his face as much, so maybe I missed a lot there?
...or maybe I'm on my way to becoming a Goner as Bob has already pronounced Rufus to be.
The almost universal condemnation from left and right is a very pleasant surprise to me, glad I heard that before listening myself.
(part 5 was the last on the youtube I watched.)
ReplyDeleteHaven't heard it all yet, did he fart into an open mic or something?
THAT would not be presidential, although at my age would be hard to avoid.
Mitt does look a lot more engaged and confident, looking not just at Tim, like BHO, but at Obama, Jim, and the audience.
ReplyDeleteWish Timmy would moderate all the rest...
NOBODY has ever looked better, I'll give him and everybody, that.
ReplyDeletebtw, poor Obama's typical white Grandma left the poor guy 500k!
ReplyDeletewtf did he need all those massive educational loans???
JIM, Leher, or whatever, my apologies, Jimmy.
ReplyDeleteThe media has been exposed in their mission to re-elect Obama. They spent their capital creating an invention that was exposed to be seriously flawed. The Obama narrative could not be sustained without a teleprompter and constant support from the press. The Obama story is like one of those used car lot, air-assisted twenty foot plastic puppets with flailing arms.
ReplyDeleteTurn off the fan and it collapses.
MSM has been the ultimate fan for the myth of Obama. Romney pulled the plug.
The sound of falling glass.
ReplyDelete.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading the comments here, I checked out the tape for a few minutes. Like Doug, I didn't see that much of a difference.
However, while I agree the debates may influence the undecided or the ill-informed, I find it amazing the anyone here who know what these guys stand for would be influenced by the debates.
.
If you can't see a difference you're blind.
DeleteYou couldn't ask for two more diametrically opposed lives than those two.
But o no, good ol' aloof Quirk, nothing ever good enough, good enough, looking down the long nose of disgust with such sordid worldly affairs, striving to remain unsoiled, and pure, by it all.
Pitiful, just plain pitiful.
.
DeleteWhine on, Bob.
I don't judge people what what they say or on debating points but rather on what they do. If you get caught up in appearances like some girly-man, that's fine. Just don't bore me with your infantile protestations.
.
Quirk, no one can snap their fingers and make things all better tomorrow. The world is not such a place. It's a magpie world, mixed. All one can ever do is try to tend toward the better.
ReplyDeleteYou are out of your mind if you think the Libertarians, much less the NLP, has any real answers.
Romney at least has some competence, and lives in a real world.
.
DeleteShouldn't you be over there registering voters and trying to convince people Obama is not an American?
.
.
ReplyDeleteThe one debate I might watch is the upcoming VP debate, not because I am especially interested in what Biden or Ryan have to say, but because I think Biden might actually surprise some people.
.
This is what happens when the only questions Obama has had to answer over 4 years have been from Letterman and the gals at The View. And if Romney could do THAT to Obama, what is Ryan going to do to Biden? But take heart Obama supporters of the Elephant Bar, your boy might have gotten crushed by Romney, but he did get the Hugo Chavez endorsement.
ReplyDelete.
DeleteYou might be right on the Biden/Ryan matchup, T. That is what everyone says. The exectations are quite low for Biden.
And it is true that Biden is open the the big gaffe at inopportune moments. On the other hand, we saw from last night's debate that we will be handed lies, distortions, and non-specifics from both sides.
It will be a night full of talking points with the only differences being in appearance. Biden, despite his faults, for the most part appears alive. Ryan, on the other hand, is a policy wonk and from what I have seen so far pretty dull.
We'll have to wait and see. You could be right but I wouldn't be surprised to see Biden do ok. The debates are after all just a beauty contest. It is unlikely we are going to hear anything new (although, admittedly, with Biden you never know).
.
Look at the new ad from the RNC on the next post. The brand has been damaged.

ReplyDeleteFrom Gail Collins at the NYT
And what are we to make of all this? There wasn’t any car crash, but we have been trained to regard every twitch, tic and failure to look engaged as a matter of possibly cosmic consequence. The next leader of the most powerful nation on earth needs to be the person with the best comebacks, but the fewest strange facial expressions.
It’s a little like one of those fairy tales where the citizens of the kingdom pick their next king on the basis of a race to find the feather of the golden swan.
Do debates really matter? The experts say that, barring total disaster, the answer is actually no.
The committed are already committed. (In some cases, really, really committed. Witness the large proportion of Ohio Republicans who told a pollster that they thought Mitt Romney was the person most responsible for killing Osama bin Laden.)
It’s all about the voters with failure to commit. CNN managed to corral some of them to register their responses to the debate’s every jab and parry. I kept peeping at the lines recording their emotions, and I swear there were long stretches where the Undecideds nodded off...
