COLLECTIVE MADNESS

“Soft despotism is a term coined by Alexis de Tocqueville describing the state into which a country overrun by "a network of small complicated rules" might degrade. Soft despotism is different from despotism (also called 'hard despotism') in the sense that it is not obvious to the people."

Taliban can attack US forces at times and places of its choosing.

The increasingly corrupt and despicable US Media provide better cover for the Obama Regime than Pentagon can provide cover for US forces in Afghanistan:

The Long War Journal

Friday night's "well-coordinated" suicide assault on Camp Bastion resulted in the destruction of six US Harrier strike aircraft and significant damage to two others. The members of the suicide assault team wore US Army uniforms and "appeared to be well equipped, trained and rehearsed," the International Security Assistance Force said.
The nighttime attack, in which a suicide assault team penetrated the perimeter of Camp Bastion, a sprawling base in the Desert of Death in Helmand province, resulted in the death of two ISAF soldiers. Eight other ISAF troops and a civilian contractor were wounded in the attack. Fourteen members of the assault team were killed and one more was wounded and captured.
"The attack commenced just after 10 p.m. when approximately 15 insurgents executed a well-coordinated attack against the airfield on Camp Bastion," ISAF said in a statement that provided additional details on the attack. "The insurgents, organized into three teams, penetrated at one point of the perimeter fence."
The members of the jihadist assault team were "dressed in U.S. Army uniforms and armed with automatic rifles, rocket propelled grenade launchers and suicide vests.”

Once inside the perimeter, the assault team "attacked coalition fixed and rotary wing aircraft parked on the flight line, aircraft hangars and other buildings."
ISAF confirmed that six AV-8B Harrier strike aircraft "were destroyed" and two more "were significantly damaged." Although ISAF did not state which country owned flew the aircraft, the US Marine Corps is the only military branch flying Harriers in Afghanistan. The aircraft cost an estimated $30 million each.
Additionally, "three coalition refueling stations were also destroyed. Six soft-skin aircraft hangars were damaged to some degree."
ISAF said on the day of the attack that it "has determined that despite the damage, there will be no impact to ground or air operations from Camp Bastion."
However, a US Marine aviation officer familiar with operations in southern Afghanistan disagreed. The Harriers are used to provide close air support for Coalition forces conducting combat and counterinsurgency operations in the south, and with eight of the aircraft taken offline, there will be less to support these missions.
"Our resources in the south -- including aircraft -- are already stretched," the officer told The Long War Journal. "We couldn't afford this loss, and our troops on the ground are going to feel this."
Friday's complex attack on Bastion is very similar to a host of other assaults on major bases in Afghanistan and Pakistan that have taken place over the years. An alliance of jihadist groups, that include the Pakistani and Afghan Taliban, al Qaeda, Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and other terror groups have penetrated bases and targeted aircraft and other personnel. [See LWJ report, Jihadists launch complex assault on Camp Bastion in Helmand, for a list of the more significant attacks since 2009.]

Correction/update: the article was updated to note that the Harriers were from the US Marine Corps. The British military retired its Harriers two years ago. In the past, Harriers were stationed in Afghanistan.

  2. Speaking of assholes, the Pentagon generals, coming off their month celebration of anal stretching amongst the troops, must have forgotten the concept and use of revetments for individual planes in deep injun country. The important thing though is our diversity.

I just wish the media would quit talking about this. I am sure you agree that we should just move on.

  3. At least the Pentagon hasn’t lost its penchant for irony:

  4. The base is in the middle of no where. Maybe the marines should borrow some drones from the TSA.

  8. The combined decline rate of four major projects in the Gulf of Mexico, Atlantis, Blind Faith, Thunder Horse and Tahiti is in excess of 20 percent per year. In September of 2009 they had a combined production of 583,144 barrels per day. In June of 2012 they had a combined 208,957 barrels per day. Mars-Ursa, in shallower water of about 1000 feet, has a decline rate of only 7.2 percent per year. (Atlantis has been off line for over three months but I think it is back on line now. But no reports of production yet.)

The North Sea, Norway, UK and Denmark, over the last two years, has a decline rate of 9.38 percent. And that is in spite of any new oil that might have come on line in the meantime.

    Getting close to check-mate.

  9. What? You mean Obama doesn't know what the fuck he is doing?

Why, Rufus just a day or so ago listed foreign policy as one of Obama's real strengths.

A reason to vote for him.

I think Obama does know what he is doing. He is weakening American and strengthening the muzzie brothers, and doing a good job of it.

I was going to respond to Quirk, and to Ruf's incredibly stupid comment about HATING ALL religions.

(You would HATE the Jains, would you?)

But, Risky died, and I'm in mourning till I get over it.

Rufus is a certified red whit and blue idiot.

Only saving grace is his affability.

One of our very best, and great at braying too. Over and over and over.

    Good ol' Ruf.

I have been thinking of sending a very fine bottle of Kentucky Whiskey to Doyle's, as long as he promises not to drink it all himself.

  10. Awfully sorry to hear about the horse. What happened? I hope the daughter is okay.

  11. Thanks, Rufus. I appreciate that. It is a blow to her. She loved that horse. Had worked endlessly with it. Intestinal trouble of some kind, all of a sudden. Taken to Washington State University vet hospital, they found nothing in the stomach with little invasive scopes but some kind of blockage in the upper intestine they think. Prospects of operating were remote so the Risk was euthanized. Was in a lot of pain, and couldn't stand. Waiting on the pathology report. Jeez, she was riding him in the mountains two days ago with a friend, no problem.

    Thank you, Ruf.

Obama, 'the Prophet of Islam,' and Slander
    Andrew Bostom

During his speech to the UN General Assembly yesterday (Tuesday, 9/25/12) Mr. Obama proclaimed,

The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam.

He rapidly cloaked this bold statement regarding Islam, alone, with a pretense of ecumenism, by adding

But to be credible, those who condemn that slander must also condemn the hate we see in the images of Jesus Christ that are desecrated, or churches that are destroyed, or the Holocaust that is denied.

This latter statement rings hollow. Mr. Obama and his State Department have never condemned, let alone actively sought to preclude-in real time and with specificity-the ongoing Muslim jihadist ravages against Christians and other non-Muslims across the length and breadth of Islamdom, often perpetrated by so-called US "Muslim allies," and/or purveyors of "moderate Islam." Even on the domestic front, one still awaits any Obama administration commentary on the "Piss Christ" revival, an exhibit originally funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts-particularly in light of their endless condemnation of the previously marginal, amateurish video, "Innocence of Muslims."

Obama, and Rufus too presumably, along with islamics the world over, are fine with putting the Christ of Quirk and others here in a jar of piss, but no one ought to slander the male/islamo supremist prophet.

  14. You gotta quit reading that crap. I watched that speech; he said that the future can't belong to the "haters, terrorists, etc."

You can draw a stick figure, put the name Mohammad on it, and earn yourself a suicide bomber attack. It's all about symbols, and I'm not so easily misled, even when the symbol points to Je Tzu.
