Newt Gingrich is everywhere talking about everything. He is the political slick spreading in all directions, much of what he is saying, making a lot of sense.
Gingrich is running for something. He won't win anything but he is far more interesting to listen to than Barack Obama.
It makes you wonder: How could a man like Obama become president and a man like Gingrich not?
Historical movements develop through twists and turns, not in a straight line. The far right has attempted to take over the independent movement before.
ReplyDeleteIn 1994, Newt Gingrich crafted the "Contract with America" to woo Perotistas back into the Republican tent. And in 2000, social conservative Pat Buchanan hijacked the Reform Party presidential nomination, though he was roundly repudiated by independents in the general election.

The independent movement went left in 2008, after many years of grassroots organizing to link it to progressive leadership. Now the right wants to peel it back.
GOP Nightmare
Here was a chant, inspired by arsonists and rioters in the 1960s, posing as a political solution. The only thing more mindless than “drill, baby, drill” was the latest self-serving distraction to spill from Newt Gingrich’s bag of cynical ideas.

ReplyDeleteFor those that don't know what I'm talking about, that car gets, essentially, the same mileage on E85 that it gets on gasoline, and E85 is selling for $1.86/gal in Iowa (and, a few other places.)
