COLLECTIVE MADNESS

“Soft despotism is a term coined by Alexis de Tocqueville describing the state into which a country overrun by "a network of small complicated rules" might degrade. Soft despotism is different from despotism (also called 'hard despotism') in the sense that it is not obvious to the people."

How our Rube-in-Chief does it vs. Chinese President Hu

Obama would do well at a Tokyo train guard:

  3. Look at the imagery.

    Who projects power?

Who stands tall and serious, in charge, nationally self confident?

    Who looks the supplicant?

  4. Obama bows 7 times in 28 seconds.

  5. Real, life-long Democrats have to be waking up with a stomach-ache every morning over this asshole.

  6. That Chinese team looks "serious as a heart attack." Who would you want to run "your" economy?

  7. I had to add one more clip to the bottom of the post. Probably the inspiration for the bowing frenzy.

  13. Just look at what they're wearing, Bob. They're not wearing "robes, and hajibs." They're wearing business suits.

Look at the news anchor. That's an American artifact. When two strangers walk up to each other, what languae do they speak? English. The International language of business.

  14. Bob, I would bet you that a Brazilian calling the Hyatt Regency in Beijing will be answered by an operator speaking English.

I quess taken all in all, Rufus, I'd rather watch a woman without a burka, so it's all good. Maybe.

I wish they could jazz up the news a little, though, they all seem to take themselves too seriously.

And they all seem like interchangeable parts.

  16. You might as well have a robot read the news, as well as bow at the train station.

  17. Chinese demand soaring

For refineries, efforts to limit greenhouse gas emissions threaten to boost operating costs, while stricter fuel economy rules and rising renewable fuel mandates are cutting into gasoline demand. U.S chemical plants also will struggle as lower-cost plants come online overseas.

By contrast, energy demand is projected to soar in China and other developing nations as more of their vast populations gain wealth in coming years — buying cars, refrigerators and other energy-intensive staples of the middle class.

“In the end, we know that there will be some increase in fuel use in China no matter what happens with the economy and climate change legislation,” said Amy Myers Jaffe, a senior fellow in energy studies at Rice University's Baker Institute

  18. Robots? Yeah, they're probably on their way. Some of these graphics they're using in commercials are getting pretty good.

It won't be long. We'll have cartoon characters selling us insurance/stocks, and robots reading us the "news." Not long at all, I reckon.

  19. Bob likes our more informal, laid-back scene:

    The Importance of Names:
Current hip-hop heavyweight, Rick Ross, is named after a California crack cocaine dealer who partnered with the CIA in a drugs-for-cash scheme that funded an insurgency in Nicaragua. “Freeway” Ricky Ross, who left prison this month after serving 20-years of a life sentence, was not really a boss. He was a pawn.

50 Cent is named after a Brooklyn stick up kid who robbed and murdered local drug dealers. 50 Cent’s right hand man is named Tony Yayo, after the popular slang for cocaine. Another one of 50’s nemeses, Fat Joe, refers to himself as Joey Crack.

Even one of hip-hop’s most cerebral rappers, Nas, named himself after the world’s most infamous drug dealer, Colombia’s Pablo Escobar, when he adopted the alias, Nas Escobar. Countless amounts of other rappers have named themselves after guns, drugs, Black gangsters, Italian mobsters and fictional gangsters from television and the movies.

    When Barry Became Barrack:
A name is a very important step in forming one’s identity. Malcolm X made a profound statement of his identity when he changed his last name from Little, because that name had likely been given to his family by white slave-owners.

When Barry changed his name to Barrack, he also made a step into determining his identity as a Black Muslim.
What does it say about the identities the rappers assume when they name themselves after criminals, guns, and drugs? Are they joining a religion of criminality and violence?

By adopting the names of infamous criminals, rappers are glorifying and idolizing criminals.

Leftists tend to idolize successful criminals as one of the few examples of success from their communities.

Many inner city residents see Community Organizers as Robin Hood figures who battle oppressive governments to give back to their communities.
Still, most of these criminals only hurt and exploit those communities.

Community Organizers spend money on cars and jewelry for themselves, and hold basketball games or give away turkeys on Thanksgiving as token gestures.
Whatever they may give back is negated by the violence and addiction they bring to the community.

While the rest of society seems to condemn crime, ACORN glorifies it. Terms like thugs, gangsters and goons, which have negative connotations in mainstream society are positive terms in the World of Alinskyites.

The Second Amendment is a doomsday provision, one designed for those exceptionally rare circumstances where all other rights have failed – where the government refuses to stand for reelection and silences those who protest; where courts have lost the courage to oppose, or can find no one to enforce their decrees. However improbable these contingencies may seem today, facing them unprepared is a mistake a free people get to make only once.

  24. Bobal, ol' Kirby Wilbur? I started listening to him back in 1992 when Rush really took off. The mighty KVI used to have Kirby in the morning, Rush from 9-12. Mike Seagel from 12-3 and John Carlson for the commute home. But KTTH came online and grabbed Rush, hired Medved, and that was the death knell for KVI. The final nail in the coffin was hitching Kirby to two other no-names to create some kind of repartee in the studio. By then I was long gone.

  27. The Obama administration has taken a giant step in its march to throw in the towel in the war against radical Islam. On FoxNews this morning, Peter King said of the decision to try the soldiers of al-Qaeda — who by their own account have no country but their cause — as civilians

“may be the worst decision by a U.S. president in history.”

It certainly is. It sends a signal to terrorists everywhere to attack civilians.

The administration is justifying its decisions on the grounds that because the 9/11 attackers targeted civilians they should be tried as civilians.

Well shoot me in the head, here I thought the Pentagon was filled with military.
