COLLECTIVE MADNESS

“Soft despotism is a term coined by Alexis de Tocqueville describing the state into which a country overrun by "a network of small complicated rules" might degrade. Soft despotism is different from despotism (also called 'hard despotism') in the sense that it is not obvious to the people."

More on Obama' Birth Certificate

June 27, 2008
Obama birth certificate mystery still unsolved
Clarice Feldman American Thinker

Controversy swirls among conservative bloggers over questions that have been raised over the authenticity of Barack Obama's birth certificate posted at the Daily Kos and (a different one) posted at his campaign's "Fight the Smears" website. Yesterday Jim Geraghty of NRO dismissed the claim that they were fake:

I spoke to Ms. Okubo[ Director of Communications of the State of Hawaii Department of Health]late Wednesday afternoon, and she said she had seen the version of Obama's certificate of live birth posted on the sites. While her office cannot verify the information on a form without the permission of the certificate holder (Obama), she said "the form is exactly the same" and it has "all the components of a birth certificate" record issued by the state. In other words, she sees no reason to think the version posted on Obama's web site and Daily Kos is not genuine.

The "embossed seal" in question is, she said, probably on the back of the document provided to Daily Kos, but not visible (as in another certificate posted on Israel Insider for contrast). She thinks the difference in visibility can be attributed to the pressure used when applying the seal.

(jmh), a commenter at Just One Minute, who does know what she's talking about, says, not so fast, Jim:

Contra [Geraghty's] admonition, the birth certification question may, in fact, be a related issue [to Obama's missing legislative records]. On the technical side, I suspect that Ms. Okubo is not very familiar with what a scanner picks up at a 300ppi resolution (as in the image Kos posted). Embossing works by actually deforming the paper itself, so no matter how light the impression might be, if it were even barely discernable on one side of a page, it would necessarily distort the pattern (and show up in the pixels) on the reverse. Indeed, high resolution scanning often picks up more than is immediately visible to the naked eye, not less! When a simple ink stamped date does show through on the reverse, Ms. Okubo's hypothetical makes almost no sense. I was suspicious of the Obama certification, but when I saw the comparison document that Isreal Insider posted, it certainly removed any doubt in my own mind.

I have no idea why the Obama campaign would take such a risk. I've even wondered if perhaps his mother didn't list a father at all, but who knows? For some reason, however, I keep thinking back to that early campaign story about an attempt to gain access Obama's passport records. It turned out to have been made by Obama's own staffers, not someone else's oppo research team, which seemed peculiar at the time, and which was never explained, IIRC. Why were they trying to see - or feel the need to check -- what the passport office had on file? [emphasis added]

I admit to the uncomfortable feeling that I'm verging on truther territory here, but considering how clean the Obama slate seems to have been wiped, and how few of his past associations -- which keep turning up by ones and twos in a blog here, or a report there -- actually show up on his c.v., my antennae just keep buzzing away. It may be exceedingly difficult to put the puzzle together because the pieces are currently so dispersed, but there's a story here.

  1. Whatever the documentation, it has been accepted by the State Dept as authentic.

Could this be why Obama was the most upset when the State Department passport files were breached? Not his alone, all the candidates had their privacy and security violated, at State.

Could a review of the documentation be launched, by Team43?
    Will it?

Obama's passport is proof of citizenship, without a State Dept review.

Seems a long reach, to believe he was born in Kenya, not Hawaii.

    Truther territory, indeed.

  5. Surely there's got to be an easy way to get at the bottom of this. Or, at least a way. I'd think somebody woul sue in Federal Court claiming he's an alien, make him prove he's not, something along that line.

Whatever the truth it, it ought to be looked into now, not after the election. What a chaos that would be. He'd have to be impeached I quess. Or a Supreme Court ruling saying he can't hold the office. Would be pure chaos.

  6. It is not difficult for me to believe his birth certificate is forged or altered.

Fits right in with his program.

  7. I don't see how he could possibly get away with it, with all the blood hounds in the press around, and all the lawyers.

But, if it is forged or altered, he'd have to try and cover it up, wouldn't he, as it's probably a felony, not to mention one of the most audacious moves in history.

All hell would break out. Republicans would probably be accused of stealing another election.

His campaign and life narrative is all about audacity. Talk about audacity. jeez

I doubt there is anything to it, but why not clear the air?

  13. C. S. Lewis argued that the extinction of the individual and its replacement by nothingness is the ultimate peril. One of his most satanic characters, Edward Rolles Weston is filled, not by a magnificent malice, but by an arbitrary, banal pettiness. Describing Weston, Lewis writes “For temptation, for blasphemy, for a whole battery of horrors, he [the protagonist] was in some sort prepared; but hardly for this petty, indefatigable nagging as of a nasty little boy at a preparatory school. Indeed no imagined horror could have surpassed the sense which grew within him as the slow hours passed, that this creature was, by all human standards, inside out - its heart on the surface and its shallowness at the heart. On the surface, great designs and an antagonism to Heaven which involved the fate of worlds: but deep within, when every veil had been pierced, was there, after all, nothing but a black puerility, an aimless empty spitefulness content to sate itself with the tiniest cruelties, as love does not disdain the smallest kindness.”

Notwithstanding the uncomfortable sense that this description has much of humanity in it’s grasp, I have a better idea. Have McCain’s advisers define who he is. My guess is that they are playing the waiting game. Smart.

    I think.

I am repeating myself, and poorly paraphrasing some of the more eloquent writers in this arena, but the Obama deficit is substance - is he a believer or a politician? Ralph Nader took a huge hit for being a believer. Ronald Reagan believed in the right things at the right time - did that make Reagan a politician?

As an individual, the question has merit, but as a leader, it is a difference without a distinction because the traditional liberal agenda is not right for the country at this time. The transition away from an oil-based economy will be driven by business and profits keyed intimately into issues of national security.

  15. From bob's link, they make the case, that the State Dept has authenticated Obama's birth certificate, themselves.

"... Ordinary people are compelled to produce certified paper birth certificates to get a passport ..."

And when Obama was ordinary, he got a passport. He had to produce a certified birth certificate to get it.

    As was noted, earlier.
So, if there is a conspiracy, the State Department is in on it, too.

Two Fired for Viewing Obama Passport File
State Department Investigating Whether Contractors Broke Law

    By Glenn Kessler
    Washington Post Staff Writer
    Friday, March 21, 2008; Page A03

Two State Department employees were fired and a third has been disciplined for improperly accessing Sen. Barack Obama's passport file, the State Department announced last night.

Senior department officials said they learned of the incidents only when a reporter made an inquiry yesterday afternoon. They said an initial investigation indicated that the employees -- all of whom worked on contract -- were motivated by "imprudent curiosity."

Bill Burton, spokesman for Obama's presidential campaign, called the incidents "an outrageous breach of security and privacy." He said this is "a serious matter that merits a complete investigation," adding that the campaign will "demand to know who looked at Senator Obama's passport file, for what purpose, and why it took so long for them to reveal this security breach."

Undersecretary of State Patrick F. Kennedy, in a hastily arranged conference call with reporters, said he asked the State Department inspector general to open an inquiry into the matter and acknowledged that it might need to be expanded.

In the CNN poll, 44 percent of men cited the economy as their top concern, which was twice as many as chose the Iraq war (22 percent) and four times as many as chose health care (11 percent) or terrorism (11 percent). In the Quinnipiac swing-state polls, majorities of men in all three states picked the economy as their top issue. Asked which economic issue worries them the most,

about half the male voters in each state said gasoline prices (48 to 52 percent), far more than chose health care costs (15 to 18 percent), food prices (12 to 14 percent), declining retirement fund values (7 to 9 percent), or falling real estate values (4 to 9 percent).

  30. Plouffe, a cool-headed operator who helped engineer Obama's nomination victory, says he doesn't put much stock in national polls, since a presidential election is a state-by-state battle. Laying out the public version of his campaign's strategy for a room full of reporters, he zeroed in on the most important target for both Obama and McCain.

"The people in the middle--in some cases we're only talking about six to ten percent of the people in a state--they will decide the election," Plouffe says. "Some of these voters just haven't been consuming the political news . . . So we think we have some very, very important foundational work to do" in spreading Obama's message.

He plans to redeploy a massive volunteer force, built during the primaries, on a door-to-door persuasion effort organized down to the precinct level.

That personal voter contact, he adds, is "even more important for a candidate like Barack Obama, who people don't have a decades-long relationship with. They're still thirsting for information. They may need reassurance."

In Pennsylvania, one of the most important battleground states, Obama's team might want to knock on the door of Janell Mader, 32, who left her teaching job to raise her young daughter in York. Like millions of Republicans, she's come unmoored from her party and is up for grabs this year.

"For most of my life, my decisions have been made based on morals and family values and that whole belief system that I've had instilled in me since birth," she says. "And now, all of a sudden, our country is turned upside down by all these economic issues that I haven't encountered in my lifetime."

  40. The image became increasingly suspect with Israel Insider's revelation that variations of the certificate image were posted on the Photobucket image aggregation website -- including one listing the location of Obama's birth as Antarctica, one with the certificate supposedly issued by the government of North Korea, and another including a purported photo of baby Barack -- one of which has a "photo taken" time-stamp just two minutes before the article and accompanying image was posted on the left-wing Daily Kos blog.

That strongly suggests that Daily Kos obtained the image from Photobucket, not the State of Hawaii, the Obama family, or the Obama campaign. Photobucket is not generally known as a credible supplier of official vital records for any of the fifty states, and the liberties that other Photoshoppers took with the certificates confirms this.

    Obama’s Identity Crisis

Despite Obama’s relentless efforts to mold himself into an African-American, his overwhelmingly white upbringing is apparent in his coolly analytical depiction of his mother, a portrait that most black men would find disrespectful. To Obama, his mother is a Kumbaya-era liberal. I suspect he feels that she messed up her life due to naïve faith in Third World countries and Third World men; but if she had been wiser, where would he be? This is one of life’s conundrums that’s hopeless but not serious, and yet Obama can’t help being serious about himself.

Years later, when he’s working on Wall Street, he’s creeped out by his visiting mother’s insistence on seeing her favorite film, the 1959 Brazilian art-house classic “Black Orpheus.” He belatedly realizes that his very fair-skinned mother is sexually attracted to dark men. He pompously intones, “The emotions between the races could never be pure; even love was tarnished by the desire to find in the other some element that was missing in ourselves. Whether we sought out our demons or salvation, the other race would always remain just that: menacing, alien, and apart.”

    Wallace-Wells mentions in Rolling Stone:

There is an amazingly candid moment in Obama’s autobiography when he writes of his childhood discomfort at the way his mother would sexualize African-American men. ‘More than once,’ he recalls, ‘my mother would point out: “Harry Belafonte is the best-looking man on the planet.”’ What the focus groups his advisers conducted revealed was that Obama’s political career now depends, in some measure, upon a tamer version of this same feeling, on the complicated dynamics of how white women respond to a charismatic black man.

My late mom was also a big fan of Harry Belafonte and Sidney Poitier back in the 1960s. To her, they embodied an admirable combination of black masculine charm and white gentlemanliness.

The problem is his legal residence claim in Hawaii, his mother married in 1960, he was born in 1961, that is one year short of a legal residence in any state, After one year you lose your drivers license and either must return where your legal residence is or you must apply where you are for a new one. His father was not registered as a US citizen in Hawaii when he met his soon to wife from Kansas and then married her in 1960 which followed as normal proceedure, Barack H. Obama was born in 1961. So which is the issue, change the laws of America from the US Senate or become a President and order it voted on and continue hounding Congress till the law is changed to be reflective of a driver license issuance law which is one year only setting Obama's new term of legal residence at one year so he can refile his mothers certification as she fits into the slot making him born of parents of a legal residence in Hawaii. This could foul up the education Obama has had esp when his mother & father were not a legal resident in Hawaii but mere students at the time and checking his records would prove the issue in other countries to be false or valid claims (not fibs or lies).

  54. I did not see that anyone posted this on Obama's birth certificate

"There is one loophole that some have raised in the hope that it might yet qualify Obama as natural-born, even if he could not prove he was born in Hawaii: the fact that his mother was US-born. But the US government makes it clear that time was not on his side: "A child born abroad on or after December 24, 1952 and before November 14, 1986 to one U.S. citizen parent and one non-citizen parent can acquire U.S. citizenship at birth if the U.S. citizen parent can demonstrate that he or she was physically present in the United States for a minimum of ten years, at least five of which were after the age of fourteen, prior to the birth of the child." Because Barack's mother bore him at the age of 18, he still doesn't qualify natural born citizen if he can't prove he was born in Hawaii with a certified birth certificate. (A subsequent law reduced the five years to two, but only for children born after 1986, and made provisional retroactive exceptions favoring parents serving in the military or for international organization. Neither applies to Obama).

The bottom line is this: If Obama can't prove he has a certified Hawaiian birth certificate, he's not a natural born American. If he's not a natural born American, he can't be president. That's the law of the land. "
