COLLECTIVE MADNESS
“Soft despotism is a term coined by Alexis de Tocqueville describing the state into which a country overrun by "a network of small complicated rules" might degrade. Soft despotism is different from despotism (also called 'hard despotism') in the sense that it is not obvious to the people."

Two views of 9-12 Marchers: 'Crackers' vs. ' Wonderful people, civil and polite'

Chocolate City
9/12 was a transformative event
By Clarice Feldman
Sometimes an event occurs which is transformative in a way that everyone who sees it or participates in it instantly is aware of. Yesterday's demonstration in Washington DC is one of those rare happenings in my opinion.
The Daily Mail said 2 million Americans participated. My friend Charlie Martin extrapolated from the pictures an attendance figure of 2.3 million. Here is a time lapse of the parade portion of the event so you can get a feel for yourself of the size of the crowd. Whatever the actual number it is sure to be seriously underestimated by the Obama-besotted members of the press corps who are also likely to misrepresent the participants and their views.
But as a participant, I want you to know the attendees were wonderful people, civil and polite. They showed their respect for the Capitol and the event by leaving no mess behind when they were through, in marked contrast to the inauguration and the usual left wing demonstrations here.
The feeling I have is that this is a wretched political class, as full of itself as it is idea-less and talentless and the people know it. They are disgusted enough with the new American elitism to travel on their own dime by any means available to come here to let Congress and the President know that they will use every legal means at their disposal to overthrow them. And overthrowing them is precisely what they intend to do.
Congress is up for election in 2010. They can rely on the grossly inaccurate press accounts if they choose. But I'm telling them it would be a major error to do so.

And now for the view from a friend of ours, The Field Negro
So the Million Middle Aged White People March went off today in D.C. without a hitch. (At least, as of this point in time, I haven't heard of any problems.) Blacks weren't storming out of their homes in the "chocolate city" to tell the "crackers" to go home, and the protesters didn't storm the White House lawn and demand to have the chosen one's head on a platter. I saw a few pictures of the protest and there was not a pitchfork in sight. Some of my Afrospear friends have blogged about it, but I am going to leave it alone. They got 50,000 people to march on Washington, big deal. His O ness packed 17,000 in the Target Center on much shorter notice.
Obama Justice investigates the CIA. How about Acorn Barack?
"You understand what I'm saying?"
ACORN generally supports Democratic candidates and actively backed President Obama last year. Acorn is tax exempt.
Acorn claims they are the Willie Horton for 2009
Statement from Bertha Lewis, Chief Organizer, ACORN Regarding Recent News Reports
September 12, 2009
The relentless attacks on ACORN's members, its staff and the policies and positions we promote are unprecedented. An international entertainment conglomerate, disguising itself as a "news" agency (Fox), has expended millions, if not tens of millions of dollars, in their attempt to destroy the largest community organization of Black, Latino, poor and working families in the country. It is not coincidence that the most recent attacks have been launched just when health care reform is gaining traction. It is clear they've had these tapes for months.
We are their Willy Horton for 2009.
Obama focuses on tire trade with China

China is not a free trader. China is a ruthless trader. China uses every possible manipulation with its currency. It subsidizes transportation and it targets industries not just to compete but to destroy. China conducts a neo-mercantlism that puts its "trading partners" at risk. China does all of this because they can and it works to China's benefit.
China uses its new found wealth and industrial might to make strategic decisions worldwide that are not in US political, military and economic interest.
Is Obama right?

China: Tire tariffs may cost 100,000 jobs
Published: Sept. 14, 2009 at 2:46 AM
BEIJING, Sept. 14 http://www.upi.com/Business_News/2009/09/14/China-Tire-tariffs-may-cost-100000-jobs/UPI-81871252910792/ -- U.S President Barack Obama's decision to slap tariffs on Chinese tire imports will hit that country's industry hard, the head of a Chinese trade group said.
"Obama's decision may affect the employment of 100,000 tire workers in China and may bring an aggregated loss of $1 billion to China's tire exporters," Fan Rende, chairman of China Rubber Industry Association, told the China Daily.
Obama said he made the decision to impose tariffs up to 35 percent based on the U.S. International Trade Commission's conclusion that a surge in Chinese-made tires had cost thousands of U.S. jobs.
In response to the White House decision, the Chinese Commerce Ministry has announced anti-dumping and anti-subsidy investigations against U.S. automotive and chicken product imports.
The high duties may prevent Chinese companies from exporting tires to the United States, Fan said. China has 20 tire companies, including four U.S.-based companies that operate there, the report said.
Fan said in addition to sending a complaint letter to President Obama, his group, along with other companies, are considering taking their case to the U.S. Court of International Trade.
Separately, Chinese Commerce Minister Chen Deming said the U.S. decision amounted to "grave trade protectionism" that will send a wrong signal to the world, Xinhua news agency reported.
Chen said China reserves the right to bring its case to the World Trade Organization, Xinhua said.
NY Times reports trust in media falls

There were one and a half million people demonstrating in Washington DC this weekend and the New York Times neglected to notice. One wonders why Americans are sceptical about their reporting accuracy. If there is any justice in the universe let them please go bankrupt.

Trust in News Media Falls to New Low in Pew Survey
By RICHARD PÉREZ-PEÑA
Published: September 13, 2009
NY Times
Trust in news media has reached a new low, with record numbers of Americans saying reporting is inaccurate, biased and shaped by special interests, according to a survey set to be released Monday.
The survey of 1,506 people interviewed in July by the Pew Research Center showed that self-described Republicans continued to take the dimmest view of news organizations, but discontent among Democrats was catching up.
On crucial measures of credibility, faith in news media eroded from the 1980s to the ’90s, then held fairly steady for several years, according to Pew surveys that have asked some of the same questions for more than two decades. But in the two years since the last survey, those views became markedly more negative.
In this year’s survey, 63 percent of respondents said news articles were often inaccurate and only 29 percent said the media generally “get the facts straight” — the worst marks Pew has recorded — compared with 53 percent and 39 percent in 2007.
Seventy-four percent said news organizations favored one side or another in reporting on political and social issues, and the same percentage said the media were often influenced by powerful interests. Those, too, are the worst marks recorded in Pew surveys.
Negative opinions grew since 2007 among both major parties, but significantly more so among Democrats. The percentage of Democrats calling the media inaccurate rose to 59, from 43; the percentage who said the media took sides rose to 67, from 54.
Views of some specific news organizations split sharply along partisan lines, with differences between Republicans and Democrats often approaching 30 percentage points. Asked about CNN, MSNBC or network television news, Democrats were much more likely than Republicans to rate them favorably, and Republicans were much more likely than Democrats to see them unfavorably. Fox News was seen much more positively by Republicans, and more negatively by Democrats.

Iran tells Obama, 'no thanks.' Russia says stealth technology is dead. Obama shucks and jives.
The Obama administration is getting ready to kill the proposed US missile-defense system scheduled for Poland and Czech Republic. Obama thinks this will please the Petit Prince Putin.
Got it.
Russia support for Iran is the problem with Iran, yet this naive, least American President, cannot see what is happening to US security.
So baby, what's the score? Iran: 1, Russia:1, Obama -2. And the US? Big problems ahead.

Iran snubs Barack Obama's nuclear talks
Iran has dealt a blow to one of President Barack Obama's most ambitious diplomatic initiatives by dismissing demands to put its nuclear programme at the heart of direct talks with the United States.
By Adrian Blomfield in Jerusalem
Published: 7:02PM BST 13 Sep 2009 telegraph
Less than 48 hours after Washington and its allies reluctantly accepted an offer of face-to-face negotiations from Tehran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the Iranian president, insisted that the topic of greatest interest to the West would not be on the table.
"From the Iranian nation's viewpoint, the nuclear case is closed," he told Britain's ambassador to Tehran, Simon Gass. "Having peaceful nuclear technology is Iran's lawful and definite right and Iranians will not negotiate with anyone over their undeniable rights."
In a rambling five-page document presented to western diplomats last week, Iran proposed negotiations on a wide array of economic and regional security issues but made no mention of its nuclear activities.
After responding with initial coolness, the United States defied expectations by taking up the offer to negotiate directly for the first time since Mr Obama came to power. The US president had promised during his election campaign to hold unconditional talks with Iran.
The decision initially appeared as though it could be vindicated after Iran's foreign minister, Manouchehr Mottaki, said he would not rule out discussing the nuclear issue, "should the conditions be right".
Despite opposition from American conservatives, the prospect of the first substantive negotiations between Washington and Tehran since the Iranian Revolution of 1979 suddenly seemed a realistic possibility.
But in his meeting with Mr Gass, who was presenting his credentials as Britain's ambassador, Mr Ahmadinejad scotched the hopes his foreign minister had raised.
He also indicated that the prospect of negotiations had made him no less combative by breaking with protocol to upbraid Britain.
"The Iranian people will never allow anybody to interfere in the country's internal affairs, and I hope the British government will repair its past mistakes," he told Mr Gass.
Iran will also come under the spotlight of human rights activists, some of whom have criticized Mr Obama for seeking direct talks with the regime, when a show trial for over 100 people accused of taking part in opposition protests after June's disputed election begins a new session.
Despite the intransigence it has encountered, the United States argues that it has no choice but to engage with Tehran.
Last month, international weapons inspectors concluded that Iran now had the capacity to produce one nuclear weapon if it were to further purify its existing stockpile of lowly enriched uranium, making the need for negotiations even more pressing.
Iran insists that its nuclear programme is entirely peaceful in intent and maintains that it has as the right to develop the technology to generate electricity.

Obama dragged this up again the other night in his joint session lie speech. He has used it before in his campaign run. Oh, that's right, he still is campaigning, this time with your money. You fired up? Now let's put this in context and see what Obama was saying a year ago.

Steve Gator, 26, has been told the teenagers who ambushed him will not face court after the Crown Prosecution Service dropped the case.
The CPS said it did not have enough evidence to proceed but Steve's mother, Nina, expressed her disbelief at the decision.
"Our boy is walking around with half a head - what more evidence do they need?" said Mrs Gator, 47. "I can't believe it."
Mr Gator, of Romford, Essex, was left seriously brain damaged following the attack as he made his way home from work on January 15.
The two thugs started screaming taunts and abuse at him about his cousin but when he confronted them he was hit so hard he fell back and smashed his head on the pavement.
He's just a different boy. His sparkle is totally gone. He used to be so independent but he can't work any more and he can't drive. He's got half-a-head and he's completely lost his confidence said Nina Gator, the mother of assault victim Steve Gator.
He was left in a coma for two weeks and his brain swelled so much surgeons removed the front half of his skull just hours after he was admitted.
He now suffers frequent seizures, has difficulty talking, and lost much of his memory.
Mr Gator now lives with his mother, who is his main carer as he can no longer work.
Mrs Gator said: "He's just a different boy. His sparkle is totally gone. He used to be so independent but he can't work any more and he can't drive. He's got half a head and he's completely lost his confidence.
"There's absolutely nothing protecting his brain now - it's just under his skin. We're waiting for surgery for a new skull plate to be put in."
A Havering police spokesman said they had no plans to look for any other attackers in connection with the case, adding: "We gave the CPS all the evidence available and after reviewing the case they decided not to proceed with it. We adhere to their decision."
Corrine Soanders, the Crown Prosecutor for Havering, said: "Once the CPS had been supplied with all the necessary evidence relevant to this case, a full review showed there was insufficient evidence to provide a realistic prospect of conviction.
"This is a key test which must be met to bring a prosecution and in light of this, the case against the two defendants was discontinued. I apologise to the victim and his family for not conveying this decision to them personally.
"I welcome any questions they may have and will be contacting them shortly to offer further explanation."
